A farmer, Isaiah Hofer in Manitoba, Canada, faced a big challenge earlier this
year. With nearly 100,000 bags of surplus (多余的) potatoes, each weighing 100
pounds, Hofer was left thinking about what to do with millions of pounds of food.
He was dysphoric and couldn’t think of a better way. It seemed that he had to let
高一 (英语)试题 第 5页(共 14 页)
these potatoes go to waste.
Luckily, some public service organizations knew about his situation and came
to help in time. The Farmlink Project was the first to offer help. It turned the
potential (潜在的) waste into a lifeline for families in need across North America.
The Farmlink Project has been helping solve this kind of problem since it was
founded four years ago. It has successfully given 220 million pounds of fresh
produce to those in need across the United States and beyond.
Hofer’s difficult situation also caught the attention of the Keystone Potato
Producers Association. It quickly got in touch with Hofer and the Farmlink Project.
They had a discussion about how to deal with these potatoes. To everyone’s
surprise, Hofer agreed to give away those potatoes without expecting anything in
return. After that, 115 trucks were sent to transport his potatoes to food banks in
Toronto, British Columbia, San Diego, and New Mexico.
Kate Nelson, chief marketing officer and co-founder of the Farmlink Project,
took part in the event and saw the whole process. He said this was one of the
largest donations (捐赠) the project has ever met.
Reflecting on the experience, Hofer expressed his gratitude to these public
service organizations and his happiness in being able to give back. “When you are
blessed with so much, it’s just good to give back ... and I’m just glad we could do
that,” he shared.
24. What does the underlined word “dysphoric” in the first paragraph mean?
A. Curious. B. Amazed. C. Anxious. D. Confident.
25. How did public service organizations manage to deal with Hofer’s potatoes?
A. By donating them to other countries.
B. By providing money to give them out.
C. By selling them to other areas of the country.
D. By transporting them to other organizations.
26. What does Hofer try to convey in the last paragraph?
A. His decision to help others. B. His excitement and thanks.
C. His regret about the potatoes. D. His lesson learnt from the experience.
高一 (英语)试题 第 6页(共 14 页)
27. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. A Poor Farmer C. Manitoba Great Potato Rescue
B. Help Those in Need in Time D. Ways to Deal with Waste Potatoes

Like most nerds(电脑迷)who read science fiction, I’ve kept wondering how
society will greet true artificial intelligence, if and when it arrives. Will we panic?
Ignore it and go about our daily lives? Therefore, it’s been fascinating to go online
to try to make sense of ChatGPT, a new cutting-edge A.I. chatbot(聊天机器人)
opened for testing at the end of 2022. In five days, more than a million people
signed up to test it.
In recent years, though a few A.I. tools have gotten good at doing narrow and
well-defined tasks, like writing marketing copy, they still tend to be weak when
taken outside their comfort zones. But ChatGPT feels different. It is smarter and
more flexible. It can write jokes and college-level essays. It can also guess at
medical diagnoses, and even seems good at answering the types of open-ended
analytical questions which frequently appear on school assignments.
The technology that powers ChatGPT isn’t, strictly speaking, new. It’s based
on what the company calls “GPT-3.5”, an upgraded version of GPT-3 in 2020.
While the existence of a highly capable linguistic superbrain might be old news to
A.I. researchers, it’s the first time such a powerful tool has been made available to
the general public through a free, easy-to-use web interface.
Unlike Google, ChatGPT doesn’t explore the Internet for information on
current events, and its knowledge is restricted to things it learned before 2021.
Since ChatGPT training data includes billions of examples of human opinion,
representing every reasonable view, it’s also, in some sense, moderate by design.
Without specific instructions, for example, it’s hard to coax (诱导) a strong opinion
out of ChatGPT about political debates. Usually, you’ll get a fair summary of what
each side believes.
28.How did the public respond to ChatGPT at first?
A.People worried about this new technology.
高一 (英语)试题 第 7页(共 14 页)
B.Many people found it hard to understand ChatGPT.
C.A number of people couldn’t wait to register for a try.
D.Millions of people were ignorant of this new A.I. chatbot.
29.What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A.Homework might not be a problem for ChatGPT users.
B.ChatGPT is a typical A.I. tool used for specified tasks.
C.ChatGPT helps doctors with serious medical diagnoses.
D.A.I. apps can’t provide perfect answers to analytical questions.
30.In which aspect is ChatGPT different from the GPT-3?
A.Linguistic researchers speak highly of it.
B.People can use it free of charge.
C.It is welcomed by A.I. researchers with enthusiasm.
D.It is the first powerful tool open to the general public.
31.What’s the text mainly about?
A.The future of ChatGPT. C.The development of ChatGPT.
B.The drawbacks of ChatGPT. D.The arguments about ChatGPT.

Adults who had close contact with natural spaces during their childhood could
have a better mental health than those who had less contact, according to a new
study by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (IS Global), an institution
supported by “la Calxa”, involving four European cities—Spain, the Netherlands,
Lithuania and the UK.
The all-adult study gave 3,600 participants a questionnaire on how frequently
they used natural spaces during childhood — for example, playing in a garden,
riding a bike at the park or hiking in a forest. They were also asked about the
importance they put on using such places.
Volunteers were then given a psychological(心理的 )test, which included a
variety of questionnaires and problem-solving activities, to analyze their
nervousness and feelings of depression within a four-week period.
The results consistently showed that the people who were more exposed to
高一 (英语)试题 第 8页(共 14 页)
natural spaces had higher mental health scores compared to those with lower
childhood exposure — as did those who attached higher importance to using green
spaces.
The study’s coordinator(协调员), Wilma Zijlema, wrote that the results “show
the importance of childhood exposure(暴露)to natural spaces for the development
of a nature-appreciating attitude and a healthy psychological state in adulthood”.
She also stressed the importance of “recognizing the meaning of growing up in
environments with limited opportunities for exposure to nature”.
According to the study, 73 percent of Europe’s population only has limited
access to natural spaces. Mark Nieuwen, director of IS Global Urban Planning, said
that “Many children in Europe lead an indoors lifestyle, so it would be desirable to
make natural outdoor environments available, attractive and safe for them to play
in. We make a call on policymakers to improve the availability of natural spaces for
children and green school yards.”
While this study was based in Europe, a lack of green space can affect anyone,
anywhere. So remember to make time to expose yourself to nature, as your mental
health is just as important as the physical one.
32.What can we learn about the study according to Paragraph 1?
A.It was carried out only in four European cities.
B.It is supported by all the adults who are physically healthy.
C.It indicates the more contact with nature, the happier one’s childhood will be.
D.It shows people’s mental health can be related to childhood exposure to nature.
33.What do we know about the study?
A.The participants were from all over the world.
B.The participants included both children and adults.
C.It focused on the participants’ physical health state.
D.It consisted of a questionnaire and a psychological test.
34.What do Paragraphs 5-6 mainly talk about?
A.The process of the study. B.The method of the study.
C.The value of the study. D.The difficulties of the study.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title of the passage?
高一 (英语)试题 第 9页(共 14 页)
A.Importance of Physical Health.
B.Benefits of Natural Green Spaces.
C.Values of Psychological examinations.
D.Problems of Europe’s Young Population.

Habits For a Healthy Lifestyle
As teenagers grow up, they become more independent and start making their
own 56 (decision) . However, it can be easy for some of them 57 (form)
bad habits. These bad habits, if left unchecked, could lead 58 more serious
ones when they become adults. To prevent harmful habits from dominating a
teenager’s life is essential.
However, to change bad habits is never easy. There is a famous saying
59 (base) on Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do.” In many ways, our
高一 (英语)试题 第 12页(共 14 页)
lifestyle is the sum of choices we 60 (previous) made. The good news is 61
we can change if we understand how habits work.
To promote 62 positive change in our bad habits, we must first examine
our bad habit cycles and then try to adapt them. We can do this by 63 (combine)
the information from our habit cycles with our own positive ideas. Aside from this,
we can also use the habit cycle to create good habits.
A 64 (success) way to change takes a period of time. As Lao Zi wrote,
“A journey of a thousand miles 65 (begin) with a single step.” To reach the
goal of change, a person must show some discipline(自律 ) and repeatedly take
many small steps.

I had not once learned valuable lessons in life. One of the life lessons that I
learned is to be thankful for those around me. Maybe it is true that we will not
appreciate what we have until we lose them and there are moments in life when
you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them out from your dream
and hug them. I did not experience these until my grandmother passed away.
My grandmother was the one that watched me grow up and took care of me
when I was a little boy because my parents had to work and were away from home.
She loved me so much that she would do anything for me but I did not realize
this until she passed away. Since she was the only adult at home, she had to do all
the chores and took care of me at the same time.
Every day after school, she would wait for me at the doorway and ask me
what I wanted to eat. Then she would cook the food for me immediately. Every
time I went out to play with my friends, she would ask me where I was going and
when I was going to be home, so that she knew when to prepare the dinner for me.
As I grew older, I started to hate the way that she waited for me every day at
the doorway and asked me where I was going. I told her that I was older and that
she didn’t have to treat me like a little child anymore.
However, she continued to act the same way as usual. One day I couldn’t
stand it anymore and told her that I didn’t need her anymore. She did not say
anything to me and I ran out of the house. I came home very late that night and
walked up to my room quietly.

Dear Xiaoming,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feelings with me. I understand your
concern about becoming addicted to computer games and it's quite common for
teenagers to find themselves in this situation recently.
However, it’s important to find a balance. I suggest setting specific time limits
for gaming and exploring other hobbies that interest you, such as reading, sports, or
art. Engaging in different activities not only broadens your horizons but also helps in
developing a well-rounded personality. Keep it in mind that it’s all about moderation.
Take care and feel free to write again!
Best wishes,
Li Hua
第二节
I was surprised to find a bowl of rice and two plates of dishes on the table. I did not
eat the food and dumped the whole thing into the trash can. The next morning, I woke
up early and went to school without saying anything to her. Later that day, when I
came home from school and saw her standing there waiting for me, I couldn’t help
feeling angry and had another big argument with her. This time, I yelled at her and
said all the bad words I could think of to her.
Tears welled up in her eyes when she heard those bad words from me. From that day
on, Grandma became “invisible” in our family. Two months later my parents asked
me to live with them in a new city. I left Grandma without saying anything. One cold
December day, I heard the news that Grandma had passed away. At that time, I felt
that something that was always there was suddenly gone and I could not stop crying. I
felt very regretful for never making an apology to her for all the bad words that I had
said to her. If I had another chance, I would tell her, “I love you, Grandma.”

高一 (英语)试题 第 4页(共 14 页)
these potatoes go to waste.

高一 (英语)试题 第 6页(共 14 页)

The results consistently showed that the people who were more exposed to
高一 (英语)试题 第 7页(共 14 页)
natural spaces had higher mental health scores compared to those with lower
childhood exposure — as did those who attached higher importance to using green
高一 (英语)试题 第 8页(共 14 页)
A.Importance of Physical Health.
B.Benefits of Natural Green Spaces.
C.Values of Psychological examinations.

59 (base) on Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do.” In many ways, our

lifestyle is the sum of choices we 60 (previous) made. The good news is 61
we can change if we understand how habits work.
To promote 62 positive change in our bad habits, we must first examine

the information from our habit cycles with our own positive ideas. Aside from this,
we can also use the habit cycle to create good habits.
A 64 (success) way to change takes a period of time. As Lao Zi wrote,
