Great news! Pandas are no longer in danger. They are on the road of recovery (恢复). Back in the 1980s, there were as few as 1,114 pandas in China. But the most recent survey in 2014 showed that there were over 1,864 pandas live in the wild.
Since 1981, the Chinese government has been working with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to save the world’s most famous bears and their homes. They set up nature parks which help protect nearly 1,300 wild pandas by giving them space to live and bamboo to eat. But the bamboo forests are getting smaller, so pandas are still losing their homes. The WWF warned that climate (气候) change could also destroy (毁掉) more than 35% of the animals’ homes, so there won’t enough places to live for them in the next years. The future for pandas in the long term is not yet clear. But one thing is for sure: we must do more efforts (努力) to protect our lovely pandas.

The train made a lot of noise as it came to a stop at the station. Martha waited for a while until her father held her hand. They walked onto the train together. Her mother and brother walked behind them.
This was the first train ride for Martha and her brother Brian. They would take the train to visit their grandparents. They usually went there by car. But today, Mum and Dad wanted to try a different way.
They walked to the middle of the train. They found some seats and sat down. A few minutes later, the train began to move.
Martha and Brian felt a little nervous, but their parents said they would enjoy the ride. Dad said he liked the train ride because he didn’t need to drive all the time. Mum added, “I can talk to my two children face to face instead of turning around.”
When the children heard their parents’ words, they felt relaxed.
“The train isn’t as noisy as I thought it would be,” said Martha, “and I can stand up and walk around. I believe I can see everything through the windows.”

1.What are the great news?
2.How many pandas are living in the wild?
3.Did Chinese government do lots of things to protect pandas?
4.Is climate (气候) change good or bad for animals?
5.As a student, what can we do to protect animals in danger?

Good afternoon. I’m Wu Lingling and I want to share my experiences in learning English with you. At school, I was always good at reading and writing English. However, when I tried to speak with foreigners, I seldom succeeded. I thought I would never learn to listen and speak well.
Then one day, I went to English Corner. At English Corner, groups of Chinese people and foreigners get together to speak English. Everybody there is either learning English themselves or happy to help others learn. I have been going to English Corner once a week for more than a year now, and my English has improved so much! The biggest lesson I have learnt is not to be shy. Most people are happy to talk to newcomers. When you talk in English, stay with simple topics, such as jobs, culture and interests. If you do not understand something, say, “Could you please repeat that?” Do not be afraid to ask people to speak more slowly, or to explain difficult words for you. Most importantly, remember to have fun. The greatest thing about learning another language is getting the chance to make friends with people from different countries.
1.How long has Wu Lingling been going to English Corner?
2.What do people do at English Corner?
3.What is the biggest lesson that Wu Lingling has learnt from English Corner?
4.What is the important way to improve your English? Why? (Thirty words or more)

There are four seasons in Beijing, the capital of China—short windy spring, long hot summer, pleasant cool autumn and long chilly winter. The hottest month is July and the coldest is January. September and October with the pleasant and cool weather are thought to be the best time to visit this city.

Autumn
The short but beautiful autumn (from mid-September to the end of October) is travellers’ favourite. Autumn in this city enjoys mild temperature and a lot of sunshine. Long-sleeved shirts and thin-coats are necessary for autumn. From late October the temperature comes down sharply, so warm clothing is a must.

A farmer had a fine orchard (果园). He was hard-working all his life, but his three sons disliked farm work. They were only interested in getting rich quickly and easily.
When the farmer was old and knew he was going to die soon, he called the three sons to him and said, “My sons, there is a pot of gold (金子) hidden (隐藏) in the orchard. Dig for it, if you want it.” The sons wanted to know where the farmer hid the gold, but he said nothing more.
After the farmer died, the sons went to dig for the gold. They did not know where it was, so they decided to begin from one end of the orchard and stop when one of them could find the gold.
They dug and dug. They turned up the earth from one end of the orchard to the other, around the trees and between them. But they couldn’t find the pot. They were really sad to have all their work for nothing.
When the next autumn came, the three sons found more fruit on the trees than ever. They sold the fruit and surprisingly got a whole pot of gold. When they saw the gold, they finally understood what their father really meant, “There is a pot of gold hidden in the orchard. Dig for it, if you want it.”
