Right, everyone, just a few details about the trip to Hanwell Film Studios. We were supposed to go on Friday but there has been a problem with the booking, so we have changed it to Saturday. The bus will be waiting outside the school from about 8: 30, and we’ll set off at 9: 30. Please don't be late.
The studios are over 50 years old. And many famous films have been made there. They’re filming an action now. And they will be doing that while we are there, which is very exciting. Unluckily, you're not allowed to speak to any actors. But you'll be able to try filming each other using the studio cameras. We'll also see the clothes that the actors wear when they are filming. You are not allowed to take your sandwiches into the studio. A small bag is okay, though. But please turn off your phones while you are inside the building.
So are there any questions?

Home alone: From Experienced Advisors
Well, I’ve had experience in being home alone and taking care of my younger brother. Sometimes it is scary, but you know that, there are a lot of fun things to do being at home alone without your parents. My favourite thing to do is watch TV. It keeps me company (it’s like having another person to talk to). And if my brother is home and he keeps on fighting with me, we make an agreement. We’ll play his game first, and then he has to play mine. That way both of us get what we want. And don’t worry if you get a little scared. Just remember that there is always someone you can call on the phone, and you have your next door neighbours too.
Danielle
When I started staying home alone I found that keeping the TV or radio on helped to make the house seem fuller. When looking after a younger brother or sister, I would play games with them and leave more lights on than usual. In case of an emergency(紧急情况), I always had the phone numbers of the neighbours and my parents. I would also keep phone numbers of doctors nearby.

In Britain, Boxing Day is usually celebrated on December 26th, which is the following day after Christmas Day. Like Christmas Day, Boxing Day is a public holiday.
The origin(起源)of the holiday is unclear. One of the thoughts is that during the Middle Ages, when great sailing ships were setting off to discover new land, a Christmas Box was placed by a priest (神父)on each ship. Those sailors who wanted to ensure a safe return would drop money into the box. It was sealed up and kept on board until the ship came home safely. The priest wouldn’t open it to share the contents (内容)with the poor until Christmas.
One more thought is about the “Alms Box” placed in every church on Christmas Day. Worshippers(做礼拜的人)put gifts for the poor into it. These boxes were always opened the day after Christmas, that is why that day became known as Boxing Day.
Today, many businesses, organizations and families try to keep the traditional spirit of Boxing Day alive by donating(捐赠)their time, services and money to aid Food Banks, providing gifts for the poor, or helping families in need. Besides, spending time with family and shopping are popular Boxing Day activities now.

Chip was in first grade when I arrived at his school as a counselor(辅导员). It was shocking to me that he was described as an angry, uncontrollable and evil(惹人厌的) boy. How could such a little boy, after being in school only one year, be considered “evil”? Over the next several months, I came to know Chip well enough to see that he was neither evil nor uncontrollable.
But, one day, Chip threw a chair at his teacher and was sent to my office. I asked him what made him do this. He replied that his teacher hated him. He felt there was no way to ever get her to like him. I asked him if he would tell his teacher this. He nodded, and we called her into my office.
When the teacher came, _________________. He then said that he knew he was a very, very bad boy, and he didn't think anyone could ever like him. His teacher listened to him with heartfelt compassion. Then she gave him a big warm hug, telling him she didn't hate him at all and, actually, she cared very much about him. Only sometimes Chip's behavior really scared her. It was clear to both Chip and me that she really meant it.
I put my left arm on his shoulders and the right hand on his heart. I told him how wonderful and lovely I saw him to be. I praised how special and brave he was to express his hurt feelings.
As I was speaking to him, his whole body came to rest on my right hand next to his heart. It was a moment in time unlike anything I had experienced before. From then on, I'm pleased to see his behavior improved through the rest of school years.

Can plants talk?Modern research has found something amazing: they do communicate with each other.
It has been known for some time that plants use chemicals to communicate with each other. This happens when a plant gets attacked by insects. The plant gives out chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten,This is like a warning,or a call for help:"I’m being attacked!” When another plant gets the chemicals,it starts to give out its own, different chemicals. Some of these chemicals drive insects away. Others attract the wasps(黄蜂;蜜蜂)!The wasps kill the insects that are eating the plants. Scientists hope to learn more about this plant warning system,so that we can use it to grow more crops.
More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. People can’t hear these sounds;but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots?Corn and chili plant do this. Some trees make clicking noises when there is not enough water.
Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. Scientists call this system the “wood wide web".The wood wide web is linked underground by fungi(真菌). It links the roots of different plants to each other. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and even food with each other. However,it may lead to bad effects. Plants may use it to steal food from each other,or spread chemicals to attack other plants. Perhaps one day scientists will learn how to create a"firewall"to help prevent these attacks within the wood wide web.
Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. Maybe one day we will know enough about plant communication to be able to"talk"with them ourselves.
42.What will plants do when they are attacked by insects?
A. They will kill the insects by themselves.
B. They will control the wasps to kill the insects.
C. They will send out signals to ask for help.
D. They will produce chemicals as a warning or a call for help.
43.What is the writer’s intention (意图) of the last paragraph?
A. To give people hope for further studies.
B. To praise (表扬) scientists for their great achievements.
C. To call on people to protect the plants on Earth.
D. To encourage people to communicate with plants.
44.What is the structure of the passage?
45.Which is the best title for the passage?
