You might also meet multiple images(图像) with familiar objects overlaid with foreign words, helping you make stronger connections.
Rosetta Stone
There are dozens of common phrases that are spoken aloud in the language you want to learn, and you have to repeat the words back to practice your pronunciation. One highlight is that it can skip forward to any lesson or let you follow through from beginning to end. There’s also a phrasebook(用语手册) with basic words and words related to restaurants, hotels, and getting around-all very useful for someone traveling.

I’m not a fan of patchwork quilts (拼缝被子). While I appreciate the feelings and effort put into making them, I usually don’t really care about the end result. Surprisingly, however, there is a small patchwork quilt in my home.
This quilt originally belonged to my mother. In her later years, after my father passed away, she joined a weekly ‘book club’ with some women from the neighborhood. In fact, it was more of an excuse to get together and drink coffee. One of the ladies, Emily, was skilled in handicrafts and she made my mother a small quilt.
For years, this quilt sat folded on a chair in my mom’s living room. It went with her when she moved to a small, one-bedroom suite at an assisted living facility (辅助生活机构). I never saw my mother use it throughout all those years.
During one of my visits, I playfully teased (取笑) my mom about her never using the quilt and asked her why she kept it. She said it was because it was a gift from Emily. I questioned further, as she was not particularly close to Emily and did not even like the quilt’s design. Her response remained the same: Because it was from Emily.
After thinking this over for several days, I came to realize that the quilt’s value did not lie in its appearance or in its maker, but rather in the significance it held for my mother about neighborliness, community and caring for one another.
I inherited (继承) the quilt more than a decade ago and it has remained folded on a shelf ever since. My plan is to one day gift it to my daughter, but I won’t pressure her to keep it, although I’m secretly hoping she will.
Patchwork quilts hold stories. The tales we attach to what we see and do enrich our lives, turning the ordinary into something magical.

A. The author was eager to learn about them.
B. The author didn’t care much for them.

D. The author admired them greatly.
37. What was the true purpose of the author’s mother attending the “book club”?
A. To socialize with neighbors.
B. To share handcrafting skills.
C. To learn how to make coffee.
D. To discuss the books they read.
38. Why did the author’s mother keep the quilt for years without using it?
A. She found it too beautiful to use.
B. She planned to give it to her daughter.
C. It reminded her of the weekly book club.
D. It represented the values of community and care.
39. What did the author do with the quilt after inheriting it?
A. The author gave it away to a friend.
B. The author kept it folded on a shelf.
C. The author used it frequently.
D. The author redecorated it.
40. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. The stories can make our ordinary life more exciting.
B. Patchwork quilts are valuable because they are handmade.
C. Ordinary objects can become magical through the stories we tell.
D. The craftsmanship of patchwork quilts is what makes them special.

Automated kitchens aren’t sci-fi scenes from shows like Star Trek. Right now, robots are used to fry chicken, create pizzas, prepare salads and much more. AI can invent recipes (食谱) based on what a kitchen has. More advanced concepts are in development to automate kitchens for fine dining.
Since technology tends to be expensive at first, restaurants and other businesses are the first ones to use AI kitchen technologies. Over time, prices are likely to fall enough for the home market, changing how homes and society work.
The benefits of AI kitchens include enabling cooks to avoid boring tasks such as peeling potatoes or standing at a workstation for hours. It can free up time, allowing people to focus on more important tasks. For personalized eating, AI can fit countless special diets and tastes on demand.
However, there are risks to human well-being. Cooking is a good activity that helps with communication and self-expression, but these benefits could be diminished (减少) if the human element becomes unnecessary. Family relationships might suffer without the collaborative (协作的) kitchen environment.
Furthermore, the kitchen serves as the household’s science laboratory, playing an important role in science education. The art of cooking helps kids learn about materials, chemistry and problem-solving.
Cultural risks must also be considered. For example, AI could mess up traditional recipes and methods, as it often stereotypes or oversimplifies cultural details. This may result in AI and robot cooks producing less diverse dishes. Relying too heavily on technology in meal creation may result in a lack of variety, leading to a sameness in taste. That’s akin (类似的) to the strangely similar feel of AI art images across different apps.
Convenience can come at a great cost, so it’s important to consider the possible social disruptions (扰乱) that new technologies might bring, especially in areas like food that are closely tied to our everyday lives.
41. What makes AI kitchen technologies an early choice for businesses like restaurants?
A. Being able to afford the high costs.
B. Being specifically designed for them.
C. Reducing the need for human workers.
D. Improving communication among staff.
42. What potential benefit of AI kitchens is mentioned in the passage?
A. Meeting various tastes.
B. Saving money on food.
C. Reducing kitchen waste.
D. Improving family relationships.
43. What educational role does the kitchen play according to the passage?
A. Cultural learning center.
B. Nutrition learning environment.
C. Artistic skills development space.
D. Science lab for materials and chemistry.
44. What is the author’s attitude toward AI kitchens?
A. The author doesn’t agree with the use of AI in kitchens.
B. The author is completely in favor of AI in kitchens.
C. The author is careful about using AI in kitchens.
D. The author doesn’t care about AI in kitchens.
45. What’s the best title for this passage?
A. AI in the Kitchen: Benefits and Risks
B. Robots: The New Chefs in Restaurants
C. The Impact of AI vs. Family Relationships
D. Traditional Cooking Methods vs. Technology

Kevin Beard is my class instructor. Most week, I’d greet Kevin as he set up gloves, mats, and other equipment. So I was shocked when I arrived one day to find him standing in front of the room telling a story, with tears streaming down his cheeks. I was worried something had gone terribly wrong in his life, but as I listened to him talk, I heard him use words like “amazing” and “accomplishment.” I realized his tears weren’t out of sadness, but happiness. Just a few days earlier, he’d received his GED ( General Equivalency Diploma), at the age of 52.
Having dyslexia (阅读障碍), Kevin left school at a young age and then managed to support himself by taking odd jobs. In his mid-30s, Kevin finally landed an opportunity for a job with some promise: working for a Sheriff’s department (治安部门). Amazingly, when he made a clean breast (坦白说出) of his education, they said they would hire him as long as he got his GED. He agreed, optimistic about this new career potential, and kind of excited about having another chance.
Kevin studied with a tutor (家庭教师), and he did it for more than a decade , learning and practicing and correcting his mistakes, every free moment he had, often late into the night. It was a huge challenge, something Kevin compares to “climbing a mountain”. In fact, as Kevin took tests along the way, he did something interesting with each of his results. He posted them on his bedroom wall so that he could watch his progress. “I needed to see myself moving forward, and I wanted to speak,” he said.
Finally, he made it. “I can’t really describe what it’s like to finally achieve this,” he said. “I can hardly even put it into words. People are giving me graduation gifts! It’s a dream come true.”
This might sound like a perfect ending. But for Kevin, it’s a new beginning. He’s on a roll, and his next step is college. “Now that I’ve accomplished my GED, I’m hungry for education,” he said.

A. She found it too beautiful to use.
B. She planned to give it to her daughter.

39. What did the author do with the quilt after inheriting it?
A. The author gave it away to a friend.

42 What potential benefit of AI kitchens is mentioned in the passage?
A. Meeting various tastes.
B. Saving money on food.
C Reducing kitchen waste.
D. Improving family relationships.
43. What educational role does the kitchen play according to the passage?
A. Cultural learning center.
B. Nutrition learning environment.
C. Artistic skills development space.
D. Science lab for materials and chemistry.
44. What is the author’s attitude toward AI kitchens?
A. The author doesn’t agree with the use of AI in kitchens.
B. The author is completely in favor of AI in kitchens.
C. The author is careful about using AI in kitchens.
D. The author doesn’t care about AI in kitchens.
45. What’s the best title for this passage?
A. AI in the Kitchen: Benefits and Risks
B. Robots: The New Chefs in Restaurants
C. The Impact of AI vs. Family Relationships
D. Traditional Cooking Methods vs. Technology

(然而,这对人类福祉是有风险的。烹饪是一项很好的活动,有助于交流和自我表达,但如果人类因素变得不必要,这些好处就会减少。如果没有合作的厨房环境,家庭关系可能会受到影响)”及最后一段“Convenience can come at a great cost, so it’s important to consider the possible social disruptions (扰乱) that new technologies might bring, especially in areas like food that are closely tied to our everyday lives.(便利的代价是巨大的,所以考虑新技术可能带来的社会混乱是很重要的,尤其是在食品等与我们日常生活密切相关的领域)”可知,作者对AI厨房持谨慎态度,既指出了其潜在的好处,也提到了可能带来的风险,如影响家庭关系、文化多样性减少等。故选C。

第一节:阅读表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。

【答案】Dear Chris,
When I read about your battle with your parents over Internet access, I was very concerned. Please know that I empathize with your situation and offer my thoughts and advice here.
I think it’s also important for us to try to understand our parents’ point of view. They may be concerned about the potential negative effects of excessive use of the Internet.
I think the key to solving this problem lies in open communication. Try having a heart-to-heart conversation with your parents and explain to them that the Internet is a valuable tool for you, whether it’s for education, entertainment, or keeping in touch with friends.
Yours,
Li Jin
