I.Objectives:
To extract specific information and retrieve the missing information while listening; to practice listening for details using a natural conversation in English.
II. Key points:to practice listening for details and retrieve the missing information.
III.Difficult points: to inspire students’ interests in science; To practice listening forthe gist to confirm previous predictions using a natural conversation in English.
IV. Listening is the basic of the English Listening and Speaking Test of the College Entrance Examination.
V. Procedure.
Step 1. Lead-in Predict by using pictures: Look at the photos below, and think
about what these activities have to do with science.
Strategy: One way to get more out of your listening is to predict what you will
hear. Using the pictures provided and the knowledge you already have, you can
guess the kinds of information you should listen for. At times, you may even be
able to guess exactly what will be talked about. This will help you focus better
when listening, making your listening more effective.
Hints: What can you see in the picture? What is he/she doing?
Step2: the City of Science and Industry Museum in Paris.
Step3:While-listening
Listen to the conversation and write down the letters (A-E) for the photos in the
order that you hear them described.
1.____ 2. ______ 3. _______ 4. _______ 5.______

her own _________moving around like _____________. The thing Judy like
better was that a white light _________________of Judy in every color of ______. Later Judy went to the area for _______. Judy played a giant____________with her feet, and it even produced the voices of classical singers. She also found a
giant dish, which ________ the sound back and made it louder so that you
could _____ to someone 17 meters away.
Audioscript:
Judy: Oh, I am so sorry that you were ill and couldn’t come with us on our field trip. How are you feeling now? Better?
Bill: Much better, thanks. But how was it?
Judy: Wonderful! I especially liked an area of the museum called Light Games. It was really cool. They had a hall of mirrors where I could see myself reflected thousands of times!
Judy: They were our own blood cells. For some reason, our eyes play tricks on us when we look at a blue screen, and we can see our own blood cells moving around like little lights! But there was another thing I liked better. I stood in front of a white light, and it cast different shadows of me in every color of the rainbow!
Bill: Oh, I wish I had been there. Tell me more!
Judy: Well, they had another area for sound. They had a giant piano keyboard that you could use your feet to play. But then, instead of playing the sounds of a piano, it played the voices of classical singers! Then they had a giant dish, and when you spoke into it, it reflected the sound back and made it louder. You could use it to speak in a whisper to someone 17 metres away.
Bill: It all sounds so cool. I wish I could have gone with you
Judy: I know, but we can go together this weekend. I'd love to go there again!
Bill: That sounds like a great idea!
VI. Assignment: Make a short presentation to the class about your scientific experiences.
