When I became a junior, I decided to take Latin (拉丁文) at school. I was so excited and really expected to learn it well.
However, the Latin class turned out to be quite boring. Each day, Mr Keady, the teacher, would ask us to open our books and read aloud the Latin forms of words. This was the way he taught us every day. That was until one afternoon when, once again, we were asked to open our books, and I decided to speak up.
When Mr Keady asked what was wrong, I explained why I found his class boring, how I had expected more, and that his teaching method seemed old-fashioned. When I finished speaking, I expected Mr Keady to angrily send me to the head teacher.
To my surprise, he sat at his desk quietly, looking disappointed and tired. After a moment of silence, Mr Keady spoke. He quietly said that he would think carefully about what I had said. And that was it.
In the following weeks, the Latin class didn’t become the exciting learning environment I had hoped for, but Mr Keady did try harder to interest us in his classes.
Maybe some people would praise what I did, but even so many years later, I feel bad about it. If I saw him now, I would tell him how much I regretted what I’d done that day in class. I would also tell him that he taught me a wonderful lesson that day. Following my unkind words, Mr Keady showed me that being wounded doesn’t mean you have to give away your dignity (尊严), and that no one can take it away from you.
5.How did the Latin class turn out for the writer?
A.Exciting. B.Boring. C.Challenging D.Fashionable.
6.What did Mr Keady do after the writer talked to him?

8.What lesson did the writer learn from the experience?

C.Honest communication is important D.Don't try to teach teachers lessons.

Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human? Nowadays, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August, driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
Why do we develop self-driving cars? Self-driving cars have many advantages (优点). They use computers to sense the things around them and make better use of space. This means fewer crowded roads and better parking of cars. For disabled or blind people, self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily.
According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 1. 35 million people are killed on roads around the world. Many more are hurt in accidents. Self-driving cars could reduce (减少) road accidents by 90 percent and save governments a lot of money. The main cause of car accidents is human error. By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do.
But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver can. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self-driving cars would be hard to see the lines on the road. It might lead to an accident.
It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars popular on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen.
9.According to the passage, which is not the advantage of self-driving cars?
A.They have computers to sense the things around them.
B.They don’t cause too much heavy traffic.
C.They make it hard to park cars.
D.They can help disabled or blind people to get around easily.
10.The underlined word “error” in the third paragraph means ________.
A.education. B.effort. C.mistake. D.mind.
11.According to the passage, we can infer (推断) ________.
A.self-driving cars can solve all the problems.
B.self-driving cars can perform as well as a human car driver.
C.self-driving cars can sense the lines on the road on snowy days.
D.self-driving cars can be seen more often in the future.
12.How is the text organized?
A. B. C. D.

Ten years ago, I started to study luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at the right time, while others always experience ill luck. Many people volunteered for my research. Over the years I have interviewed them, watched their lives and had them take part in my experiments.
I did a simple experiment to discover why there were differences in their ability to find chances. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper and asked them to look through it and tell me how many photos were in it. I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper saying, “Tell the researcher you have seen this and win $50.” This message took up half of the page and was more than two inches (英尺) high. It was staring (盯着看) everyone straight in the face, but unlucky people tended to (倾向于) miss it and lucky people tended to find it.
Unlucky people are just more nervous than lucky people. They are busy looking only for what they need and this stops them from noticing the unexpected. As a result, they miss chances. Lucky people tend to be more relaxed and open. They can see everything that is in front of them, rather than just what they are looking for.
My research shows that lucky people live by several principles (原则). Here are some of these principles:
* Listen to your gut instincts (直觉)—they are often right.
*Be open to new experiences and break your normal thought patterns.
*Spend a few moments each day remembering things that went well.
*See yourself being lucky before an important meeting or phone call.
13.Why did the writer do this research?
A.To prove that luck is actually a matter of chance.
B.To study why some people are always lucky or unlucky.
C.To find out how much people care about money.
D.To help people become luckier through experiments.
14.Which action would decide if the volunteer was lucky or unlucky?
A.Counting the number of photographs in the newspaper.
B.Correcting the exact height of the large message.
C.Finding a hidden message about winning $50 in the newspaper.
D.Finding human eyes staring at readers in the newspaper.
15.Why do unlucky people often miss chances according to the research?
A.They pay great attention to what they need.
B.They are always busy looking for good luck.
C.They are relaxed and open about opportunities.
D.They care more about unexpected things.
16.Which of the following won’t help you become a lucky person?
A.Listening to your gut instincts. B.Thinking in a normal way.
C.Remembering good things. D.Imagining yourself being lucky.

When you’re a teenager, it seems that every time you say “I want to …”, someone answers “No, you can’t”. Also, no part of your life is safe from the prying (窥视的) eyes of your parents.
A 15-year-old girl, Debbie says, “My dad always wants to know where I am, and what time I’m going to be home.”
Most parents do that. Do they have to know everything? They should give us more freedom. Young people further complain that their parents do not respect them. When something goes wrong, more parents just don't believe in their children. Without asking why, they think their kids are wrong. And not many parents allow their kids to choose for themselves. Yes, it is true that your parents sometimes treat you like a little child. But remember that not too long ago you were really a child. Your parents still remember those childish mistakes that you used to make. They want to protect you though you do not want them to do so.
So, if you want to get more freedom, please try to understand your parents and do not lie to them. Try a more friendly way. If you want them to allow you to stay out late, don't just say, “All the other kids can stay out late.” Tell them as much as you can about what you want to do and where you'll be and why it's important for you to stay out late. Then they might just say “yes”.
41.Who always wants to know where Debbie is?

But once, my good friend and I got into a fight over something. We didn’t speak to each other for a long time. I felt sad. I told my parents about it. My parents suggested that I should take the initiative to communicate with my classmates and admit my mistakes. I did what my parents said.
