To Karanth, everyone in every part of the world is born with a fundamental
connection to nature. Growing up in Karnataka, she began accompanying her father
into the wild at just two years old. But in her hometown, kids grew up with a
negative perspective on wildlife. Elephants destroyed crops and sometimes people
高三英语试题 第4页 共12页
were badly injured or killed. Karanth discovered kids wouldn't appreciate the fact
that it's the best place to witness extraordinary animals.
In 20l7, a conversation with her friend Gabby shifted her mindset towards education
Within half a year, Karanth and Gabby had the first version of "Wild Shaale" on
their hands. A program designed for students who come into frequent contact with
wildlife, Wild Shaale aims to develop a genuine understanding of wildlife and wild
spaces and move beyond wildlife tolerance to concepts of conservation and
environmental issues. The conservation education program fills a gap in environmental
learning.
While it is fortunate that a basic environmental education is supported by local
government, Karanth believes the challenge lies in the quality of the curriculum and
whether it's delivered effectively and consistently."You have to visualize what these
schools look like. They may not have electricity-forget having computers, internet,
iPads, or anything."
Encouraging the students to find commonalities between themselves and the
animals is the first step to changing perceptions and hopefully, behaviors. "It comes
down to the same things: we need food; we need water; we need space. Then they
start to understand why situations of conflict arise,” Karanth savs.“But then how do
you convince them not to get angry, not to act in a way that leads to harm? That's
something we're trying to work on. It's not easy."
24. What problem might Karanth's hometown have faced?
A. Human-wildlife conflict.
B. Loss of wildlife habitats
C. Overpopulation of elephants.
D. Disregard for wildlife balance
25. Why did Karanth launch the program Wild Shaale?
A. To help students identify animals
B. To fill a gap in local education.
C. To change how students perceive wildlife. D. To publicize wildlife diversity
26. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The support to the plan
B. The barrier to the program.
C. The curriculum arrangement.
D. The schools' conditions.
27. What is Karanth trying to achieve in the program?
A. A shift in humans' attitudes and behavior.
B. A breakthrough in environmental studies.
C. Appropriate ways to end local conflicts.
D. Approaches to changing animals' behavior.

Soon, every seat on an airplane could be a window seat! New concept designs
are revealing how travelers will be able to gaze at the stars above in future airplanes.
Aerospace giant Airbus is showing off its vision of next-gen cabins, which include an
all-round view of clouds as you jet through them.
The Airspace Cabin Vision 2o35十 concept also lets passengers tap on smart
interactive windows that show travel time and let you explore your destination city.
The French company also says passengers will enjoy a greater choice of meals thanks
to new pre-ordering concepts. They believe that, by collecting your meal at the gate
food and packaging waste could be reduced by up to 15 percent. The company
explains their ethos is"to reduce emissions at heart".
“Right now, research shows the cabin can contribute between 1o% and 2o% to
the aircraft's overall environmental impact during its lifecycle," Airbus officials
write.
“Putting a focus on reducing this, Airbus brought together ten airlines and eight
technology companies to feed into a vision that rethinks the way the cabin should
look and feel, maintaining superior passenger comfort."
Airbus found that one of the biggest levers(手段) in the cabin for reducing
emissions is lightweight solutions. To achieve this, efforts should be focused on
creating lighter “bionic designs" that will help reduce cabin weight by up to 40 percent.
“As the world shifts to a more circular(循环的) economy, we are rethinking
the materials used inside the cabin so they're able to be recycled, reused and repaired
during their lifecycle. This is also a key part of the 2o35+ vision,”Airbus officials
explain.
“Cabin lining and components will be developed for current aircraft using new
materials and a complete introduction of these will be rolled out with the next generation
aircraft."

Picture this: Your computer could sense your emotions as you worked-feeling
your joy at completing a task, your boredom during repetitive data entry, or your
frustration when an error message keeps emerging. This might sound like science
fiction, but researchers are bringing this vision closer to reality by developing
advanced computational models that can predict human emotions during computer
interactions.
At the forefront of this effort is a team of Finnish scientists who have created a
model. The model essentially puts itself in the user's shoes, simulating(模拟) the
series of actions, outcomes, and cognitive appraisals(认知评估) that ultimately give
rise to emotions like happiness, boredom, or frustration.
To test their model, the researchers designed a series of interactive computer
tasks meant to cause specific emotions. In the "happiness" task, users answered a
series of questions and received positive feedback for correct responses. The "boredom"
task involved a series of repetitive questions. In the "frustration" task, the system
was intentionally programmed to display error messages and ultimately fail,
regardless of the user's answers.
As study participants worked through these tasks, the emotional reactions
predicted by the model closely matched the emotions reported by the users
themselves. The model was even able to discover small changes, such as a steady
increase in frustration over the course of the error-ridden task
The researchers believe their emotion-predicting model could pave the way for a
new generation of emotionally intelligent computers that can tailor their behavior to
the user's psychological state. An effective system might offer a stressed user
comforting words of encouragement, liven up a boring task with humor, or provide
emotional assistance when frustration mounts. “By creating interactions that are more
emotionally attuned, designers could boost user engagement, productivity, and overall
well-being,"they add.
高三英语试题 第7页 共12页
However, the model is still in progress and needs to be extended to recognize a
wider range of emotions across more complex, real-world computer interactions. The
researchers also emphasize the importance of gathering more diverse training data to
ensure the model can accurately predict emotions for users of all backgrounds.
32. How does the author introduce the topic of the text?
A. By making a comparison.
B. By sharing a popular book
C. By telling a real life story.
D. By creating an imaginary scene
33. What were computer users asked to do in the study?
A. Comfort each other.
B. Get rid of boredom
C. Report their feelings.
D. Stay disconnected online
34. What is paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. Great improvements on the model
B. Characteristics of future computer users.
C. Computer users' responses to the model.
D. Researchers' expectation of their model.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Smart Computers May Replace Humans
B. Computers Might Understand Our Emotions
C. Interactions with Computers Are Enjovable
D. An Emotion-predicting Model Meets Challenges

Dear Chris,
I hope this email finds you well. I’m writing to seek your assistance with a 2-minute book talk presentation I’ll be delivering at school.
I’ve chosen to recommend “Alice in Wonderland”, a book that has always fascinated me with its imaginative plot and eccentric characters. It will definitely captivate my audience. However, I’m struggling to convey its unique qualities in such a short time. Given your experience with similar presentations, I would greatly appreciate any tips you can offer on how to structure my talk and keep the audience engaged.
I eagerly await your invaluable insights. Thank you in advance for your help.
Yours,

Inspired by Jackson’s lead, they joined in the effort. The once quiet street was now filled with the sounds of sawing and chopping, a symphony of community spirit in action. Children helped by carrying away the smaller branches, while the adults tackled the larger ones. Together, they transformed the scene from one of disorder to one of purposeful cooperation. The tree, which had stood as a symbol of nature’s power, now became a proof of the community’s unity. As the final pieces were moved aside, a cheer rose from the group, a celebration of their collective victory.
Jackson’s action made an impact on the community. Later, when people in the community were in trouble, there was always someone who would lend a helping hand. People would meet and greet each other with a smile. The whole neighborhood showed a harmonious scene. The fallen tree, once a source of inconvenience, stood as a reminder of what could be achieved when neighbors worked together. And as the community returned to their daily routines, they did so with a renewed appreciation for the kindness of a man named Jackson.

W: Hey, Chris, are you alright? M: Yeah, I'm just a bit sleepy. The World Cup final last night, you know. W: Sure. Want some coffee? M: I wouldn't say no.
(Text 2)
W: Excuse me, could you possibly move your car forward a bit so I can get mine out? M: Just a second. Is it okay now? Do you need any help?
(Text 3)
M: Wow! These dogs are so adorable. Can we take one? My friend Joy has a cat. W: No, Bill. I'm afraid we can't. We live in a small apartment.
(Text 4)
W: Well, is Tom doing well in school these days? M: Oh, well. Like boys at his age, you know, I can't get him to do his homework without a struggle.
(Text 5)
W: Hi, Kevin. I didn't see you at the pool yesterday. What happened? M: Oh, my grandparents came over to my place for a visit. I got the idea to interview them, and I saw how much they loved being listened to.
(Text 6)
W: Peter, I don't know if Janet has told you, but Wednesday afternoon's sales meeting is cancelled. M: Oh, yeah? When is our next meeting then? W: Either this Friday morning or next Monday afternoon? Janet is checking David's schedule. M: Why don't we have it this Friday? I'll be away on a business trip next week.
(Text 7)
W: I just bought a ticket to New York. I'm so excited to see the city. M: Good for you. When are you leaving? W: Next week. I'm taking the red-eye flight. It's cheaper. M: New York City is a magical place. You'll have so much fun. W: I hope so. I'll stay for a week and then take the train down to Washington, D.C. M: That sounds like a great vacation. I'm looking forward to a week at the beach for my summer vacation. I just want to relax.
(Text 8)
W: Hi, George. I just heard the news. Americans are not just shopping online, they are buying expensive products on the Internet. Nearly three out of ten online shoppers in the United States have bought a product that costs a thousand dollars or more. Those big online spenders are much more likely to be men than women. M: I'm not surprised. You know, men are usually the early adopters when it comes to technology. W: I can't imagine that back in the 1990s, online shopping wasn't just awkward, it felt risky. People were afraid to give out their credit card numbers. They worried if products didn't arrive in time. M: But now people are talking about the explosion in Internet shopping. W: Yes, indeed. Last year, U.S. shoppers spent $453 billion in shopping online, and many of them went big. What did they buy? Just about anything. M: Well, I am no exception. Last Sunday, I purchased a short note that Mark Twain had written regarding a missing package, and I paid about $1,500 for it. W: You're really a more adventurous online shopper than me.
(Text 9)
W: Hi Richard, this is Susan. M: Hi Susan. W: What are you doing? M: Just watching TV. Pretty bored. You? W: Well, I was planning to go to the science museum today with Elaine, but it snowed. M: I hope it snows all night because I don't want to go to school tomorrow. W: Do you know anyone who has a camera? I left mine at home. I want to take pictures of all this snow. M: No, I don't. But why don't you use your cell phone to take pictures? W: Well, I don't think cell phones do a good job. I want to take some really nice pictures of this wonderful snow scene. You know, the college is preparing a photography exhibition next month. I hope my pictures will be selected. Oh, I know now. Have you seen Sarah today? She has a camera. M: No, she hasn't been around lately. But do you know Mike? He has a camera. In fact, I know he's interested in photography. W: Mike? You mean that tall boy, captain of our school football team? Okay, let's ask him to go with us. M: Well, I don't mind doing something interesting. We can go to Waterloo Park, a good place to take pictures.
(Text 10)
Hey, everyone. I'm really excited to be here to share my experiences since graduation. When I was leaving here about 10 years ago, I decided to go to college, which, when I think about it, is a little strange, because I come from a family where no one had ever gone to college. Everything I knew about college came from the movies. Once in college, I got a classic case of too much fun and too little class time. At the end of my second year, my major professor warned me, you're never going to graduate unless something big changes. But it wasn't until I entered my graduate program in conservation ecology that I felt I was on the right path. My conservation work has brought me joy, excitement, and adventure. I've done some research in the remote mountains of California. I've had dinners with important politicians. I've even stepped over snakes in Africa. But most important of all, it gave me something bigger than myself to fight for. When I look back, I feel fortunate to have chosen college, and particularly science, through which I have rediscovered myself and achieved liberation. And I'm sure you all can do the same.
