Are you the person sitting in the corner of the classroom during the break time hoping no one will come up and talk to you? If this sounds like you, you are not alone. If you want to become more socially confident follow the advice.
Accept your personality. Many people happen to be introverted, meaning that you’re more comfortable spending time alone. If this sounds like you, don’t force yourself to completely become an outgoing, social person. Doing so can lead to stress, worry, and even heart disease. Instead, spend time in social situations you already enjoy and try to have meaningful conversations. By accepting your introverted nature, you can focus on the quality of your social communications.
Understand the importance of confidence. You can become socially confident by attracting other people in a way that interests them and makes them feel heard. These skills are known as social ability. Practicing social ability can create chances for yourself to get close to others.
Avoid negative (消极的) thoughts. If you don’t see yourself as socially confident, it can be easy to look for things that confirms your thoughts. Catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, and ask yourself what you see or hear can prove the thought. For example, imagine you’re thinking, “I know everyone here thinks I’m boring because I have nothing interesting to say.” Stop thinking that and ask yourself what proves the negative thought.

Soon they were at a dark stone fortress. There was an old wooden door. Sarah pushed it and it creaked open.
“Good luck!” said Tim as the children went in. It was dark inside and very cold. They looked at each other and shivered. There was water running down the walls and the children could hear someone crying. They walked towards the sound and soon they found the Lord of Tears. He was dressed in black and his head was just like a skull (头骨). And he had huge empty eyes. Big tears were running out of his eyes and down his skull. The floor was all wet.
“Soon there will be only tears in the world,” the Lord of Tears whispered,“and I will be everywhere.” The children looked at the water around them. It was rising quickly. “Let’s play our flutes (长笛),” said Sarah. “Maybe music will stop him.” And they took out their flutes and started playing. First, the tears stopped and then the Lord of Tears fell asleep.
Behind the Lord of Tears chair they saw a mirror. Ben looked into it. He saw his smiling face. “Why are you smiling?” Sarah asked. “I’m not smiling,” he said, “the face in the mirror is smiling.”
“This must be-the Mirror of Smiles,” said Sarah.
Suddenly the Lord of Tears was moving again. Sarah took the mirror and held it in front of the Lord’s face. When he opened his eyes, he looked straight into the mirror. One night we were walking down one long, dirty street. Suddenly, Dupin spoke, “You’re right,” he said. “He is a very small man.”
At first I saw nothing strange in this. Then it hit me. Dupin had agreed directly with my thoughts. I had not spoken a word!
Dupin had read my mind. I stopped walking.
“Dupin,” I said, “how could you know that I was thinking of?” Here, I stopped speaking.
________
And he did. He said, “How did I know you were thinking of Chantilly and thinking he is too small? It was the fruit-seller.”
“Fruit-seller!?”
“I mean the man who bumped into you fifteen minutes ago.”
“Oh, yes…I remember, now. That fruit-seller. But what does that have to do with you knowing I was thinking of Chantilly?”
“I will explain. Let us follow your thoughts from the fruit-seller to the stage actor, Chantilly. A fruit-seller bumped into you. You stepped on some cobblestones and hurt your feet. You continued walking, but kept looking at the cobblestones. Then we came to a small street with new street stones. Here your face became brighter and your lips formed the word ‘stereotomy’ which we read about in the newspaper only yesterday. The word ‘stereotomy’ reminded you of the old Greek writer and thinker Epicurus and his ideas about atoms. We were talking about how much those old ideas are like today’s scientific study of the planets and stars. Then you looked up and saw that the group of stars called Orion. Only yesterday, in the newspaper, there was a report about the actor Chantilly. The critic used a Latin saying about Orion to describe Chantilly. So you would connect Orion and Chantilly. Then, I saw you straighten up because you were thinking of Chantilly’s size. And so I spoke, saying that he is indeed a very little man.”
I was surprised. Dupin was right. Those were in fact my unspoken thoughts, as my mind moved from one thought to the next. But if I was surprised by this, I would soon be more than surprised.

② Dupin directly agreed with my thoughts about Chantilly.
③ A fruit-seller bumped into “I” in the street with cobblestones.
A.①-②-③ B.③-①-② C.①-③-② D.③-②-①
3.What can you infer(推断)from the article?
