The boat began to float away. At first, Anne enjoyed the romance of being the Lily Girl. Then, something not at all romantic happened. The boat began to break. It looked like it would fill and sink (下沉), and Anne could not swim! Just then, the boat hit an old wooden pile (木桩). Anne jumped out of the boat and grabbed it. She held on and waited for the girls to find her. The boat went under the bridge and then sank. Ruby, Jane, and Diana watched it sink and were sure that Anne had gone down with it. They screamed and screamed and ran off to find help. Poor Anne was still hanging on to the wooden pile. The minutes passed by, each seeming like an hour to the unlucky Lily Girl.
Just then, Gilbert Blythe came under the bridge in a little boat. “Anne Shirley! How on earth did you get there?” he asked. Without waiting for an answer, he pulled close to the pile and held out his hand. Anne jumped into the boat, scared and angry.
“We were playing ‘Elaine,” said Anne, trying not to look at him. Gilbert took Anne to land. The girl jumped out of the boat. “Thank you,” she said, and turned away. Gilbert also jumped from the boat.
“Anne,” he said, “I’m very sorry I called your hair ‘carrots’. I think your hair is very pretty now. Let’s be fiends.” Anne thought for a moment. Then, she remembered that she hated Gilbert Blythe! She would never forgive (原谅) him! “No,” she said coldly, “I shall never be friends with you, Gilbert Blythe.” “All right!” Gilbert jumped back into the boat, his face red. “I’ll never ask you to be friends again, Anne Shirley. ”

Science fiction stories have imagined people in the future living in underground cities on Mars and in space stations far from the sun. But if humans are to survive in those terrible environments, they will need ways to grow food using limited resources. Photosynthesis (光合作用), by which plants turn sunlight into sugar, might not work.
Now, some scientists are wondering whether it’s possible to produce food more efficiently (高效) by giving up photosynthesis, just by growing plants in the dark.
The idea sounds as science fictional as cities on Mars. But a team of researchers has taken a first step toward realizing it with a study published in Nature Food. The research shows it is possible to grow algae, edible-yeast and fungi in the dark by providing them with a carbon-based chemical (碳基化学物质). The chemical didn’t come from plants, but instead was produced using solar electricity (太阳能发电). That is, this method took the place of natural photosynthesis with a partly artificial (人造的) process for turning sunlight into food. Their process is a kind of artificial photosynthesis, and the idea has been around for years and includes different ways of turning sunlight, water and CO2 into some chemicals.
The scientists are hopeful that this method could unlock new ways to produce food using less physical space and energy than traditional agriculture — including, perhaps, crops that can grow in the dark.
While other scientists doubt if it will ever be possible to redesign plant biology so completely, they are excited by the technology the researchers have invented and the team’s out-of-the-box idea about how to make food production more efficient.
“It’s worth keeping an open mind. The reward may be something we haven’t imagined yet.” said Lynn Rothschild, a senior research scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center.
( )57. What is the writing purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To tell a story. B. To lead to the topic. C. To give an example. D. To work out a mystery.
( )58. What can we learn about artificial photosynthesis from the passage?
A. It may help find new ways of producing food.
B. It doesn’t need sunlight, water or CO2 any more.
C. It has helped successfully grow food with limited resources.
D. It was introduced to the public for the first time in Nature Food.
( )59. Which word has the closest meaning to “out-of-the-box”?
A. harmful B. challenging C. humorous D. creative
( )60. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. How to Grow Crops in the Dark? B. What is Artificial Photosynthesis?
C. Can Food Crops Grow in the Dark? D. Do we need Artificial Photosynthesis?

No matter if you're a morning or night person, when you wake up, your brain is ready to learn. Scientists have found that in the morning, the part of our brain that helps us make decisions and stay focused works better .61 Here are three key points:
Making the first step easy
Starting your day can be hard, especially when your mind is still waking up. Personally, I'm always unable to think clearly after waking up, and the last thing I can think of doing is packing my bag or choosing what to wear for the day. 62 In this way, you can focus on your morning tasks without feeling stressed.
63
To set the scene for your morning, place things in your bedroom that encourage you to start. For example, if you plan to read in the morning, keep a book near your bed. Similarly, if you want to limit your time on social media, make it harder to get to your phone by changing your phone settings.
Dividing the task
Besides focusing on the first step of a given task, dividing the task into smaller stops will not only increase the chances of it getting done, but also have a positive mental effect.
64 For example, if you have a big task like writing a paper that can't be done all at once, you can use fixed morning time to finish it. It's worth mentioning that the time can be changed to fit your needs.
In short, making a morning plan that helps you succeed means planning carefully and staying organized .65 Don't forget to make small changes if it's necessary. With these tips, you'll start your day off right, and catch your goals easily.
A. Environmental design for your morning plan.
B. It's also useful to divide the time instead of the task.
C. So how do you design a morning plan that will lead to a perfect day?
D. Also, keep trying different things until you find what works best for you.
E. What are the best ways to wake up our brain and make it ready to learn?
F. That's why it's helpful to pre-plan and prepare everything the night before.
G. Knowing exactly what your morning plan is.

Different weather makes people feel different. It influences health, intelligence (智力) and feelings.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, IQ of a group students were very high when a strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% below. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people.
They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18°C, people become stronger.
Low air pressure may make people forgetful. People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. People feel best at a temperature of about 18℃.
Are you feeling sad, tired, forgetful, or unhappy today? It may be the weather’s problem.
86. What can hot and wet weather cause? ____________________________
87. When may people have higher intelligence? ____________________________
88. How may low air pressure make people feel? ____________________________
89. What will happen to people in “good weather” of 18℃? ____________________________

Good afternoon, everyone! It’s a great honor for me to speak here. My aunt is the person I admire most. She is quiet but her work shouts. I think she is a great artist.
My aunt used to be an accountant in a big company, but she didn’t like her job. Ten years ago, she gave up her job and began to study art. At first, no one believed she would succeed. She practiced hard and now she is famous in the art community.
Through hard work, my aunt proved that we can do anything if we never give up. I admire her most and want to be a person like her.
That’s all for my speech. Thank you!
