When I entered Ruthin School,I decided to take Latin (at school.I was so excited
and really expected to learn it well.
However, the Latin class turned out to be quite boring. Each day,Mr.Keady, the teacher,
would ask us to open our books and read aloud the Latin forms of words. This was the way he
taught us every day. That was until one afternoon when, once again,we were asked to open our
books, and I decided to speak up.
When Mr.Keady asked what was wrong,I explained why I found his class boring, how I
had expected more, and that his teaching method seemed old-fashioned.When I finished
speaking,I expected Mr.Keady to angrily send me to the head teacher.
To my surprise,he sat at his desk quietly, looking disappointed (and tired. After a
moment of silence,Mr.Keady spoke. He quietly said that he would think carefully about what
I had said. And that was it.
In the following weeks, the Latin class didn't become the exciting learning environment I
had hoped for,but Mr.Keady did try harder to interest us in his classes.
Maybe some people would praise what I did,but even so in many years later,I still feel bad
about it.If I saw him now,I would tell him how much I regretted what I'd done that day in
class.I would also tell him that he taught me a wonderful lesson that day.Following my unkind
words,Mr.Keady showed me that being wounded doesn't mean you have to give away your

People know animals do have feelings, but they are not sure if these feelings are correctly
understood. In recent years, scientists have done research about the feelings of cows, frogs and
pandas..▲
It says that humans can tell whether a chicken is happy or sad by listening
to its calls.
The researchers put a bowl behind a door.Inside the bowl, sometimes, there was
something chickens love to eat, such as rice or insects.Sometimes, there was nothing. When
the chickens saw food behind the door, they seemed happy and produced fast and loud sounds,
known as food calls. When there wasn't food, the chickens made low and long noises to
express disappointment ()The researchers recorded all these sounds and studied their
waves(波动).
Then the researchers chose 16 recordings of such chicken noises.Half were from the
chickens seeing the food and half were from the chickens finding no food. The recordings were
played to 194 volunteers.Sixty-nine percent of the volunteers correctly understood whether the
chickens were feeling happy or not,and some of them even had no experience of taking care of
chickens.
The result shows that humans have the natural ability to understand the feelings of
chickens.Hopefully, this finding can bring about new technology to help with chicken-raising,
a big industry (in many countries. Some scientists are already working on a smart
computer program that can tell chickens'feelings. This is good news for farmers who want to
make the birds happier and healthier.

As an Olympic fan from a very young age,I have
already got over my crush (over any sporting
“hero”,because a"hero'”may be forgotten as time passes
by.But this time in Paris I think I have come across one.
Ni Xialian, who was born in 1963,was the oldest
table tennis player at the Paris Olympics in 2024.This
time,as the former Chinese world champion(冠军),she

did her best to play against her much younger opponent ()23-year-old Sun Yingsha.
They both did not hide their skills and tried their best.
Though failed at last,Ni had no regrets and deeply thanked the crowd. At the after-match
interview, she said that her dream had come true to play against and compete with the world's
top player at the Olympics. Before facing Sun at the opposite side of the table,"Aunt Ni"was
invited to serve as a training partner(陪练)to China's eventual mixed doubles(混合双打)
champions Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin because of her professional technique(专业技术).
Throughout Sun and Ni's match, the CCTV reporter kept referring to Ni as"Master Ni"
instead of using her full name to show respect for what she did for China's table tennis.Ni has
made great efforts in spreading the sport in Europe and around the world.
I truly admire the shared slogan (of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics"Games
Wide Open".To me,it means "wide open"not only for any competitor who presents the
Olympic spirit but also for any performance or choice made by an Olympian.
Not representing (China though,Ni is still winning her home country's hearts.I
believe she will always be respected by China.
