It was a hot summer day and I had just pulled into the gas station to fill up my car. After filling it up, I started to walk inside to pay. That is when I noticed them. Two elderly women were standing back from their car. There was shock and fear on their faces. I looked and saw what they saw, five yellow jackets (小黄蜂) building a nest around their gas cap. I suddenly felt scared. I shared the ladies’ fear.
Yellow jackets have never been friends of mine. Several times these wasps (黄蜂) have attacked me while I was cutting the grass, stinging (蜇) me each time I ran over their nests. The worst time, however, was when I was a young boy. A friend of mine and I were playing in my backyard. I must have stepped on one of their nests again because before I knew it, both of us were being chased and stung by the yellow jackets while we ran away screaming. I ran to my mom with tears in my eyes. She ran a cold bath and put us both in it to ease (减轻) the pain before giving us medicine to help us feel better.
Still, I knew I couldn’t let fear stop me now. I reached into my pocket for a paper towel I had there, tore out the nest and stepped on it while the wasps buzzed around me. Both of the ladies thanked me for what I did.
You can’t let the fear of being stung-either physically or emotionally—keep you from doing what is right. We need to love each other and change the world for the better. And the only way you can do this is through helpful acts and kindness. Don’t let the yellow jackets in your life hold you back.
31. Why was there shock and fear on the women’s faces?
A. They saw a fire in the gas station. B. They were frightened by yellow jackets.
C. They were too old to drive the car. D. They couldn’t find their way out.
32. The writer tells his experiences in Paragraph 2 to show ______.
A. what his childhood life was like B. what to do after being stung
C. why he was scared of the wasps D. how to deal with yellow jackets
33. What did the writer’s mother do first after the writer got stung?
A. She gave him some medicine. B. She asked him to step on the nests.
C. She took him to see a doctor. D. She put him into a cold bath.
34. What did the writer do to save the two women?
A He drove away the yellow jackets. B. He gave them a paper towel.
C. He destroyed the yellow jackets’ nest. D. He told them to take a cold bath.
35. The story mainly tells us that ______.
A. animals are harmful to human beings B. elderly people always need our help
C. a friend in need is a friend indeed D. we shouldn’t let fear hold us back

Europe’s biggest online take-aways company (公司) Just Eat has made the first delivery of takeaways using a robot.
The advertisement shows a woman in London opens the door to find a six-wheeled robot delivering her online food order.
The company said that it might be the world’s first online food delivery using a robot, with a customer making an order through its app.
Instead of a person arriving at your door you will receive a photo and a message on your cellphone that show a robot is on its way and that a password will unlock the robot. When the robot arrives, put your password in. Then the robot opens up, and you will get your meal.
The robot was built by Starship Technologies and it can travel up to six kilometers per hour for about ten miles. It uses a GPS signal and nine cameras to find its way and stay away from obstacles (障碍). It is constantly connected to the Internet, using 3G technology to find its way to the customers’ addresses.
It even has a special function. If someone tries to destroy the robot, or steal it, a human operator can take over, talking directly to the wrongdoer and sending police to the location. Nine cameras on the robot can also catch the wrongdoer’s face, and it only opens for the customers upon its arrival.
The robot is cheaper than the average human delivery, costing $1 to transport within a three-mile distance.
Just Eat said that London was expected to see more trials of the delivery robots in the coming months, and a number of robots are being made available to select restaurants in the area.

39. What is the procedure (步骤) to use the delivery service by a robot?
① The customer unlocks the robot with a password.
② The customer makes an online order.

Dear judges,
Happy to know that we’re going to choose Green Star! I’d like to recommend our monitor Li Hua to be Green Star.
I recommend him for three reasons. First, in his free time, he often recycles newspapers and cans in the community. Many neighbors praises him. Second, when he has a short journey, he usually goes there on foot. He believes that it is beneficial for environmental protection. Third, his eating habits are very healthy. He never eats fast food.
I have learned a lot from Li Hua. Protection of the environment is our due responsibility for each person.
Yours,
Linda
