Dressed in my white polo shirt and black pants, I was ready for my first day as a fashion's worker. I had been working on a register for over two weeks when they decided that I was ready to work as a shop assistant.
I remember the feeling of excitement because this was something new, and nervousness because I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't even know whom I would be working with. So many thoughts came floating into my head as I walked from my car to the store.
“What if the customers don't like me? What if I can't handle this job? Will I remember everything?” With my mind filled with all these what ifs, I walked back to the break room and put my purse in my locker. Then, with my shaking hands and upset stomach, I walked back to the front of the store and met with Theresa at the service desk where Theresa greeted me warmly.
“We are going to have you work with Vicki today. She is a friendly lady and takes charge of the men's department. She can teach you how to communicate with the customers. So let's take a walk back to the men's department, and she can get you trained in," Theresa said.
“Okay,” I replied with nervousness.
Walking for what seemed like a long time, we finally reached our destination. Vicki , a young lady in her early thirties, came bouncing out to receive us with a light-hearted walk and a brilliant white smile. We must have caught her a little off guard because she stopped, stared at us for a moment, and said, “Hi Theresa!”
“Hey,Vicki! I'd like you to meet Kayli. She is going to be working with you for the next couple of weeks. ” Theresa introduced me to this young lady.
“Hi, Kayli,” she replied with more enthusiasm than I had expected.
“Well, I'll leave it up to you, Vicki.”Theresa happily replied, then turned and walked away, leaving Vicki and me standing there.注意:

I was now eager to start working with her.
参考答案
In front of a stranger alone, my nervousness grew. I didn't dare to look her in the eye, with nowhere to rest my hands. Vicki must have noticed my unease as she offered me a coffee, which not only occupied my hands perfectly but also calmed me down. Then she led me around the department, vividly explaining different styles and trends and showing me how to work properly. She even pretended to be demanding customers and tested my response in a light-hearted way, sweeping away my nervousness. Afterwards, she patted me on the shoulder and praised me for my quick mind, adding, “Take it easy! Every experienced worker started as a green hand. Don’t worry. I’m always here for you.”
Listening to her words, I started to relax and had more confidence in myself. With abundant information of men’s clothes and Vicki’s tips in mind, I successfully served quite a few customers and contributed to the company’s profits that day. The following few weeks witnessed my becoming more and more professional, despite some unavoidable stupid mistakes, which were a natural part of learning. I attributed my confidence and passion for the new job to Vicki’s kind encouragement and wise guidance. However, her influence on me has gone beyond the job. Through this experience, I was awakened to the most valuable life lesson that those what ifs would always remain what ifs unless you stepped out of your comfort zone and took on the challenges.
