It was 11:30 a.m., and fishing on the water 40 miles off the North Carolina coast was a great way to spend a lazy July day. Calm seas, clear skies, hint of a breeze. Not another boat in sight.
Until now, Andrew Sherman, 50, spotted a speck (小点) on the horizon. As the speck approached, it started to look like a boat. However, there wasn’t a soul in sight.
“Hey! Hey!” Andrew and his son, 21, shouted. Nothing. A horrifying thought took shape: The captain had gone below, all right— and suffered a heart attack.
Jack leaped onto the boat, bringing it to a stop. “Empty” he said.
Stunned, father and son said together, “It’s a ghost (幽灵) boat!”
Andrew called the Coast Guard! The Andrews could have left it at that, but they were curious: What happened to the captain? Locating the boat’s GPS system, they found the missing captain had marked points along his route showing good fishing spots. Then the points suddenly stopped a few miles back.
They headed for that last point with the two boats. From there, they made ever-enlarging circles for the next hour.
Two hours earlier, Sascha Scheller, Captain of the boat, had been fishing for mahi-mahi when he wanted to rest. He leaned over the boat side but slipped. Suddenly he was in the water. He grabbed wildly for the swim ladder, but. it slipped between his fingers. In dumbstruck (目瞪口呆的) horror he watched his boat zoom off, taking his life jacket with it.
His only hope was to swim three miles back to where he’d last seen other boats. Suddenly, Scheller spotted boats in the distance. Only when one close up to him did it dawn on Scheller: “That’s my boat!”
That evening, when he got home, Andrew’s wife asked him how his day had gone. “It was a slow day catching fish,” he told her. “But we did catch a man.”

A. He was really fond of fishing men instead of fish. B. He was jokingly telling her about the good deed.
C. He was very annoyed that they had wasted a day. D. He was making an excuse for his poor fishing skill.
7. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. Ghost Boat B. Boat Fishing C. The Andrews’ Story D. The Missing Man

A famous American poet Robert Frost once said, “Poetry is what gets lost in translation.” But XuYuanchong, a well-known Chinese translator, had tried to convey the beauty of ancient Chinese poetry throughout his life. His teacher Qian Zhongshu commented on his poetry translation, “You are dancing while chained by rhyme and rhythm, but the dance shows amazing freedom and beauty, which is quite impressive.”
Since 1978, Xu had published more than 100 translated works in Chinese, English and French, reaching millions of readers at home and abroad. Most notably, he translated Chinese poems into rhymed verses in both English and French. He was also the first Asian winner of the Aurora Borealis Prize/ for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature.
Xu was known to be very fastidious in his work. For him, English is a “scientific” language that needs exactness while Chinese is an “artistic” language that includes a wider range of content. Following this principle, Xu kept not only faithfulness in meaning but beauty in emotion in his translation.
Through Xu’s translations, time-honored Chinese wisdom has made an impact on Western societies and the world. For example, when former US president Barack Obama tried to begin a healthcare project during his presidency, some senators disagreed at first. But after reading the poem titled Fishing in Snow translated by Xu, one senator was so impressed with the fisherman’s independent thinking that he chose to support Obama.
Having made such great achievements, Xu maintained a routine. Every day he translated about1,000 words, working till 3 to 4 a.m., sleeping for about 3 hours and getting up at 6 a.m. to continue. “Translation is a means of communicating with the writer’s soul. A sudden flicker of a good word or a good line thrills every pore (毛孔) and every inch of my skin.” Xu said.
8. What does Paragraph 2 tell us about Xu Yuanchong?
A. He mastered at least three foreign languages.
B. He translated about 100 Chinese works into English.
C. He was the first winner of the Aurora Borcalis Prize.
D. He was widely known for his translated rhymed verses.
9. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Xu was quite careful about translation. B. Xu was very satisfied with his work.
C. Xu was so proud of his translating. D. Xu was extremely fond of translation.
10. Why does the author give the example in Paragraph 4?
A. To recommend Xu’s translation works. B. To stress the charm of Chinese poetry.
C. To show Xu’s great translation skills. D. To prove the wisdom of the ancient Chinese.
11. Which of the following words can best describe Xu?
A. Thoughtful and modest. B. Generous and warm-hearted.
C. Creative and open-minded. D. Talented and hard-working.
D
Cars produced today are essentially smartphones with wheels. For drivers, this has meant many new features: automatic braking (刹车), turn-by-turn directions, entertainment systems. But carmakers are getting much more. They’re constantly collecting data from our vehicles, like how much we weigh, how fast we drive, how many children we have and even financial information. But who owns and, finally, controls that data? And what are carmakers doing with it?
The issue of ownership is not clearly known. Drivers usually sign away their rights to data. It’s not unlike buying a smartphone. The difference is that most customers have no idea vehicles collect data. We know our smartphones collect data and we accept that we trade personal information for convenience. With cars, we have no such expectation.
What carmakers are doing with the collected data isn’t clear. We know they use it to improve car performance and safety. And we know they have the ability to sell it to third parties they might choose. The data on your driving habits could be valuable to insurance companies. You may or may not choose to share your data with these services. But while you can turn off location data on your cellphone, there is no opt-out (退出权) feature for your car.
Carmakers use data to warn us when something needs repair or when our cars need to be taken in for service. For almost a century, car owners have been able to take their vehicles to whichever shop they trust for repair. That may be changing. When carmakers control the data, they can choose which service centers receive our information. They are more likely to share our data only with their branded dealerships (经销商) than with independent repair shops which could have advantage in price and convenience.
It’s clear, because of its value — as high as $750 billion by 2030 — carmakers are unlikely to release control of the data collected from our vehicles. Lawmakers, however, have the opportunity to give drivers control — not just so that they can keep their data private but also so that they can share it with the people they want to see it. This will let car owners maintain what they’ve had for a century: the right to decide who fixes their car.
12. How is Paragraph 2 developed?
A. By presenting data. B. By giving examples.
C. By analyzing causes. D. By making comparisons.
13. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. Car owners can easily turn off the data-collection feature in their cars.
B. Insurance companies have no interest in the data of driving habits.
C. The data collected by carmakers is only used to improve car performance and safety.
D. Car owners may not have the choice to prevent their cars from collecting data.
14. What if carmakers control users’ data?
A. More car shops will open. B. Users will pay more for service.
C. Independent repair shops will make profits. D. Carmakers will provide more repair shops.
15. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Laws are expected to bring the data back to drivers.
B Drivers trade personal information for convenience.
C. Carmakers will share the vehicle data with drivers soon.
D. Car owners already have direct access to their vehicle data.

“We’ve got this,” my friend Alex laughed loudly as we stepped off the library steps. “Absolutely, we’ve got this,” I agreed, performing a little victory dance on the sidewalk once the library door had closed behind us. We had both been nominated (提名) for the Youth Excellence Program, an honor and a chance almost every student was crazy about.
That weekend, Alex and I sat in my living room, carefully completing the program application. We each aimed to show we had all qualities the program valued: academic excellence, leadership, community service, integrity, and civic responsibility. I detailed my devotion to challenging courses, while Alex described his volunteer work at the local food bank. We left no stone unturned, fully confident in our joint success.
The following day, we submitted our applications to the teacher hopefully.
Weeks passed.
Then one day, I received a letter about the project. I rushed out of the classroom and opened it. I felt a stab of sadness right in my heart: my name was not on the list.
At that very moment, I saw Alex came jogging over, waving his letter with a beaming smile. It was clear he had news that contrasted with my own. Without hesitation, I turned away to avoid him. I knew he was eager to share his joy. Perhaps, he even had planned to celebrate the good news together with me.
But I just couldn’t face it: they picked him but refused me. How could fate be so unjust? Anger and despair just blinded me.
That afternoon, on the school bus, I sat alone and avoided eye contact with Alex. When the bus arrived at my street, I just jumped off, without saying goodbye or smiling to him. I hurried home, thrusting (塞) the letter into my mom’s hands. I buried my face in the cushions, sobbing uncontrollably as waves of heartache swept over me.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
From that day on, I didn’t talk to Alex.

B. Drivers trade personal information for convenience.
C. Carmakers will share the vehicle data with drivers soon.
D. Car owners already have direct access to their vehicle data.
【答案】12. D 13. D 14. B 15. A

【12题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“The issue of ownership is not clearly known. Drivers usually sign away their rights to data. It’s not unlike buying a smartphone. The difference is that most customers have no idea vehicles collect data. We know our smartphones collect data and we accept that we trade personal information for convenience. With cars, we have no such expectation. (所有权问题尚不明确。司机通常会签署放弃数据权利的文件。这与购买智能手机的情况不无相似。区别在于,大多数顾客并不知道车辆会收集数据。我们知道智能手机会收集数据,并且我们已经接受用个人信息换取便利的事实。但对于汽车,我们并没有这样的预期。)”可推知,第二段是通过智能手机和汽车收集数据的对比来展开论述的,即通过比较来展开论述的。故选D。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段中“You may or may not choose to share your data with these services. But while you can turn off location data on your cellphone, there is no opt-out (退出权) feature for your car.

根据文章最后一段“It’s clear, because of its value — as high as $750 billion by 2030 — carmakers are unlikely to release control of the data collected from our vehicles. Lawmakers, however, have the opportunity to give drivers control — not just so that they can keep their data private but also so that they can share it with the people they want to see it. This will let car owners maintain what they’ve had for a century: the right to decide who fixes their car. (很明显,由于其价值可能高达7500亿美元(截至2030年),汽车制造商不太可能放弃对我们车辆所收集数据的控制权。然而,政策制定者有机会让驾驶员掌握控制权——这不仅仅是为了保护他们的数据隐私,还为了让他们能与希望看到这些数据的人共享数据。)”可推知,法律有望将数据归还给司机。故选A。

故填to relax。
【38题详解】
考查定语从句。句意:走进书店,人们可以看到一张桌子,上面放着一些儿童书籍。此处引导非限制性定语从句,修饰先行词table,且此空在从句中作介词on的宾语,所以此空应使用关系代词which,构成“介词+which”引导的非限制性定语从句。故填which。
【39题详解】
考查一般现在时与主谓一致。句意:上面挂着的窗帘上写着“幸福是每个人的需求”。空格处需要填入谓语动词,此处描述客观事实,所以用一般现在时,句子的主语为动名词,谓语动词用第三人称单数。故填is。
【40题详解】
考查连词。句意:在111平方米的书架上,你可以找到国内外作家的书籍:汪曾祺和李娟的散文,相声大师侯宝林的作品等等。此空所在短语为介词短语作后置定语,介词短语from home and abroad意为“来自国内外”。故填and。
【41题详解】
考查被动语态与主谓一致。句意:带有手写信息的贴纸用于介绍作者。例如,“如果你觉得生活无聊,那就读读汪曾祺吧”。空格处需要填入谓语动词,Stickers with handwritten information与use之间是被动关系,陈述事实,所以用一般现在时的被动语态,句子的主语为复数,所以be动词用are。故填are used。
【42题详解】
考查冠词。句意:李娟是裁缝,也是中国最幽默的散文家。空格处位于形容词最高级之前,因此需要用定冠词。故填the。
故答案为laughter/laughs。

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文
From that day on, I didn’t talk to Alex. Each day at school, I navigated the hallways with a new route, avoiding the places he frequented. The shared excitement that once connected us was replaced by a painful silence. Alex tried to do something to mend it. One day, he even left me a note, trying to comfort me. But I looked at him coldly, “Leave me alone.” I knew I was hurting him, but the sting of rejection was too fresh, and I couldn’t find the words to bridge the gap.
Finally, Mom talked with me, saying Alex wasn’t the one to blame. She reminded me that success and failure were parts of life’s journey. “You should have congratulated your friend on this instead of feeling pitiful for yourself,” she said seriously. It suddenly struck me that how unfairly I treated Alex. Seized by guilt, I followed mom’s advice and left Alex a note, expressing my feelings—not as an apology, but as a step towards healing and rebuilding our bond. It was time to face my fears and embrace the reality that our friendship could weather this storm.
