Hummingbirds are a very important part of Mexico's ecosystem, but because of
the ever-spreading city landscape, they face all sorts of serious dangers. That's where
73-year-old Catia Lattouf de Arida comes in.As a self-taught hummingbird care-taker,she
devotes most of her free time and resources to nursing the tiny birds back to health. Her home
in Mexico City has become known as a hummingbird hospital.
Catia's story as a hummingbird nurse began in 2011,at a very difficult moment in her
life.At that time, she focused on her battle with cancer. She was walking on the street one day
when she noticed a hummingbird that had suffered a serious eye injury. The kindhearted
woman took it home and named it Gucci. She managed to nurse Gucci back to health, but she
said it was Gucci that saved her. Why?Because the hummingbird managed to pull her out of
the sadness and loneliness that had taken over her life.
Word of her success spread among Catia's friends, and before long some of them began
bringing her injured hummingbirds. She didn't repulse them at all.She began to study the
birds and their habits in order to better take care of them, and after 11 years of experience, the
73-year-old woman is considered an expert on hummingbirds.
In order to raise awareness of the difficult situation of hummingbirds in Mexico,Catia
Lattouf de Arida started posting videos of the patients in her Mexico City apartment on social
media, and many of them became popular. That's when the need for her nursing services
really blew up.She has cared for hundreds of hummingbirds in her 11-year career, when she
has had as many as 50 of them in her apartment at any time. She spends pretty much all her
time looking after the tiny birds.

Nivani Elangovan,26,hates making phone calls."I'm a lot more anxious about things
that are uncertain.I like having structure and being as prepared as I can,"she said."Emails
and texts allow time for thoughtful responses, unlike phone calls full of unpredictable
outcomes."Elangovan isn't alone. Her case is common among digital natives.
In Australia,a survey last year of more than 1,000 Gen Zers aged 18 to 26 found that
only one in ten prefers to talk to family and friends via a phone call.About 49 percent said
speaking over the phone makes them anxious, while six in ten are afraid of accepting a phone
call.
However, even among youngsters who prefer texting, calling is an optional means of
communicating.Eighteen-year-old Shayna Choo said she spends at least eight hours texting
her friends per week, but still two hours weekly calling her family.Like other youths,Ms
Choo's calls are for close friends and family members."You will feel closer when you hear
their voice. And if it's a close friend,I would worry about what's going on and pick up the call
assuming it's something urgent.
Associate professor and sociologist,Tan Ern Ser,noted that texting might mean more
misunderstandings as they lose social clues such as facial expressions, possibly missing out
on practicing social interaction skills.Problems may also arise if conversation partners have
different preferences for communication. For example,if my co-workers prefer phone calls,
they may find my texting very impersonal, which may lead to inefficiencies in
communication,"he said. When thinking about these new forms of communication,Dr Tan
said he does not view them as a problem."As long as the purposes of communication are
successfully achieved,I am not sure if we need to worry too much about it,"he said,
28.What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph?
A.Addiction to digital products.
B.Unpredictability of time schedules.
C.Lack of face-to-face communication.
D.Phone call anxiety of digital natives
29.Why does Ms.Choo still spend time calling specific individuals every week?
A.It brings less misunderstandings.
B.It allows them to contact more quickly.
C.It gives her a sense of nearness.
D.It makes her get urgent news in time.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.Social concerns about texting
B.Potential problems with texting.
C.Impact of texting in workplace
D.Hidden messages from texting
31.Which word best describes Dr Tan's attitude towards texting?
A.Worrying B.Unclear.C.Indifferent D.Acceptable

Recently,Xudong Wang at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his colleagues have
invented a floor that generates electricity when people step on it.
To make it,the researchers extracted cellulose nano-fibres from wood pulp and separated
them into two layers, one of which they chemically treated to become positively charged.
They then wrapped both layers in cardboard and compressed them to make a hard board.
Under the pressure of a footstep, the two cellulose layers come into contact and swap
electrons. When the foot is lifted, the electrons return but travel through an external circuit,
producing electricity.
One step on a floorboard produces between 10 and 30 volts and is capable of lighting up
35 green LEDs.Wang's team is now planning to test the prototype in a part of their university
with heavy foot traffic.Eventually, they hope to introduce the floorboards into train stations
and shopping centers, where they could power lights and sensors.
However,Alistair Sproul at the University of New South Wales in Sydney Australia, says
that the electricity-producing floors have a tiny output."If you want to power society and do
things efficiently,go for solar or wind energy,"says Sproul."This is a novelty idea but
probably not very practical.
But Wang says that energy from footsteps could complement solar energy The concept is
to generate electricity from energy that would otherwise be wasted,"he says.It also works
inside buildings and underground, where solar may not be available or sufficient."
The team will now need to show that the floorboards are durable and cost-effective.The
production cost is similar to that of regular wooden floors, but additional expenses include
replacing existing floors with new floors connecting with energy storage units and devices."It
can't replace solar energy harvesting,""Wang says."But as a complement,we believe it will
be a cost-effective way compared to other green energy sources.
32.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about the new floor?
A.Its working principle
B.Its creative aspects
C.Its research input
D.Its inventing inspiration.
33.What is the ideal use case for this new invention?
A.Open-air railway station
B.Open land with strong wind
C.Underground space with a large crowd
D.Shopping malls requiring much power
34.What can we know about the new floor from Wang's words?
A.It promises to replace solar energy.
B.It is cost-effective and eco-friendly.
C.It is more difficult to produce.
D.It is more durable than wooden floors.
35.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.A New Solution to Power Shortage
B.A New Function of Floorboards
C.Generate Power by Footsteps
D.Save Energy by New Building Materials

Do you feel like reading and analyzing poetry is like trying to finish a difficult task? The
process is easier than you think.Think about how the poem makes you feel, and look for
clues in things like the poem's setting, characters, and imagery.36
Read the poem more than once,Every word in a poem is important.Read the poem all
the way from start to finish at least once.37 But this time, say the poem out loud.
You might be surprised at how much better you understand the poem after you hear the
words!
Analyze the title.Look for clues to the poem's meaning in its name.38 For
instance,it might seem like you're reading a poem about the moon, but if the title is "Broken
Heart,"you might realize it's about how fragile the speaker feels about his painful experience.
Listen to the rhythm of the poem. The rhythm will be part of the overall meaning of the
poem.39For example, you may notice that there are a lot of short lines in the poem
creating a jumpy rhythm.Or you may notice there are a lot of long lines that flow one into the
other naturally, creating a more fluid rhythm.
Notice how the poem is separated.Poems are often divided into sections called stanzas
()Consider how the stanzas relate to each other or transition into one another.40
This may help you see how they all fit together in the larger scheme (of the poem.
A.Then,go through it again
B.The rhythm of a poem is often ignored
C.Next, think about who they're talking to.
D.Think about how the rhythm makes you feel as a listener
E.Even the author's own life can give you clues into the meaning.
F.Sometimes it can give you an important clue to the deeper meaning
G.Try writing down a quick summary or title for each section of the poem.

33.C命题点:发明的应用前景,题千关键词"the ideal use case for this new invention"是对原文"works"
的同~转换,由此可将解题线索定位至第五段。根据该段最后两句".The concept is to generate electricil
from energy that would otherwise be wasted,he says.It also works inside buildings and underground where
solar may not be available or suf伍cient.."
It can't replace solar energy
harvesting Wang says. But as a complement,we believe it will be a cost-effective way compared to other
green energy sources.."可知,在Xudong Wang看来,这个新发明虽然不能取代太阳能,但相比较其他t
色能源它是一种具有成本效益的方式。换言之,Xudong Wang认为这一发明能够节约能源,降低'
