For me, one of the greatest pleasure in life is going to watch a great film at the cinema. It’s a chance for me to get away from real life. There’s nothing better than being lost in a story unless, of course, someone decides to break down the moment.
Whether at a cinema or a huge theatre, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! Here are some accepted ways of behaving at the cinema which some people don’t seem to understand.
To start with, some people always turn up late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surround-sound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and thus makes a lot of noises. And what I can’t stand most is people who decide to chat with their friends, sometimes not even about the film.
I’m not alone in this situation. Simon Mayo, a film critic (评论家) at the BBC experienced a “new low” during a film. He says, “The woman in front of me got a mirror out, then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her make-up!”
Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off—a most serious offence (冒犯).
Of course, when we have paid for a ticket, we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the film in the way we want to, but we mustn’t forget our fellow moviegoers who want to enjoy the cinematic experience, too.
The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen. ________
What about you? What annoys you about other people at the cinema?
48. Why does the writer enjoy going to the cinema?
A. It makes him feel like being at home. B. He wants to enjoy the cinematic experience.
C. He prefers watching the films on big screens. D. It gives him a moment to stay away from real life.
49. What is considered by Simon to be the rudest at a cinema?
A. Doing the making-up. B. Using mobile phones. C. Taking the shoes off. D. Chatting with friends.
50. Which is the best sentence to fill in the blank in Paragraph 7?
A. Just stay at home! B. It’s your choice! C. Go to the cinema! D. Manners are important!
(C)
When Sara entered the schoolroom the next morning everybody looked at her with wide, interested eyes.
“She has silk stockings on!” said Jessie. “And what little feet! I never saw such little feet.” “Oh,” Lavinia, unkindly, “that is the way her slippers (拖鞋) are made. I don’t think she is pretty at all. Her eyes are such a strange color.” “She isn’t pretty as other pretty people are,” said Jessie, looking at the other girls in the room. “But she makes you want to look at her again. She has greatly long eyelashes (睫毛), but her eyes are almost green.”
“Young ladies,” Miss Minchin said, “I shall expect you all to be very agreeable to Miss Crewe; she has just come to us from a great distance—in fact, from India. As soon as lessons are over, you can know each other.”
“Sara,” said Miss Minchin, “come here to me. My impression is that your father wished you to learn French.” “I, I have never really learned French, but, but,” she began, trying shyly to make herself clear. “That is enough,” Miss Minchin said. “If you have not learned, you must begin at once. The French master, Monsieur Dufarge, will be here in a few minutes.”
Monsieur Dufarge arrived. His eyes fell upon Sara. “Is this a new student for me, Madame?” he said to Miss Minchin.
“Her father really wants her to begin the language. But I am afraid she isn’t ready for it. She does not seem to wish to learn,” said Miss Minchin.
Little Sara rose in her seat. She began to explain quite simply in pretty and smooth French. She had not learned French exactly—not out of books—but her father and other people had always spoken it to her, and she had read it and written it as she had read and written English.
When she began to speak, Miss Minchin started quite surprisingly and sat looking at her over her eyeglasses, almost angrily, until she had finished.
“Ah, Madame,” Monsieur Dufarge said, “There is not much I can teach her. She has not learned French; she is French. Her pronunciation is pure.”
“You should have told me,” exclaimed Miss Minchin, turning to Sara.
“I, I tried,” said Sara. “I, I suppose I did not begin right.”
Miss Minchin knew she had tried, and that it had been her mistake that she was not allowed to explain, when she saw that Lavinia and Jessie were laughing at their French grammars, she felt very angry. “Silence, young ladies!” she said seriously, knocking upon the desk. “Silence at once!”
—Adapted from A Little Princess
51. What made Lavinia have a bad impression on Sara?

53. According to Miss Minchin, Sara ________.
A. had prejudice (偏见) against her B. was poor in language C. was forced to learn French D. would find French charming
(D)
Big data (大数据) is a lot of sets of information that are put together so they can be used by a computer program. The computer program looks for different kinds of answers or patterns in the data. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources, such as information that comes from schools, social media sites, companies and governments. One set of data can have people’s names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go to school, and how much time they spend on the computer.
Big data can be used in many ways. The government uses it to understand how many people travel on buses or trains. This information is then used to make bus or train systems better. Some schools use big data to understand which children may need extra help in class. The teacher can then give certain students more help or support so those students can succeed in school. Companies use big data too. It helps them understand who buys their products. For example, one company uses weather data to see when people eat the most ice cream.
Big data can be used for good reasons. Some hospitals use big data to predict (预测) if a baby who is born too early will get sick. The hospital can then take extra steps to take care of that baby so he, she does not get sick. Big data can also be used for bad reasons. It can be used to predict which kinds of people are likely to break the law or hurt others, even if they have not done anything wrong.
How can big data be used for good and bad things? It is because the computer programs used to look at big data and understand it are written by people. People think a certain way. Because they think a certain way, they build a model of those ideas. These ideas are then used to look at the data. Sometimes, these ideas are helpful for people or businesses. Other times, bad ideas can cause problems for certain groups of people.
54. What is the first paragraph about?
A. What big data is and how it is used.
B. Why we can use big data in a number of ways.
C. Where important data is collected and stored.
D. What big data is and how it is collected.
55. How does the writer show that big data is useful from the reading?
A. Big data is widely used in every field.
B. Big data seldom brings any harm to people.
C. Everyone can get information from big data easily.
D. People can make certain right decisions according to big data.
56. What can we infer from the reading?
A. If there is plenty of information, it is called big data.
B. Big data provides any information for the government.
C. We should make full use of big data to serve the society.
D Big data only collects the latest information from the world.
57. The overall tone (总基调) of this reading is ________.

Portia gave the decision. “One pound of the merchant’s flesh (肉) is yours! It is what the contract (合同) says. You may take his flesh!” Shylock held his knife and told Antonio to get ready.
“Wait!” said Portia. “You will not do anything that is not written in the contract. Is that right, Shylock?” “Yes, that’s right,” said Shylock. “Well,” said the young judge, “I have read the contract carefully, and it does not say anything about taking his blood. It says ‘a pound of flesh.’ You can take your pound of flesh, but you may not take one drop of his blood. If you take any of his blood, the duke will take everything you own!”
Shylock didn’t want to give everything he owned to the duke. He decided not to take his pound of flesh. He said he would take the money. Bassanio was happy to give him the money because he thought he could save his friend Antonio in this way.
Portia, however, had more to say. “Wait!” she said again. “He does not want the money. It is not written in the contract, and he said that he would not do anything that was not written in the contract. Shylock, you can take your pound of flesh, just as the contract says. Why are you waiting?” she asked. Shylock said he just wanted to have his money back.
“Just give me the money I lent you. I won’t even demand interest (利息),” he said. Bassanio was ready to give the money to him, but again Portia stopped him and said, “He said in front of us all that he did not want the money. He wanted only the penalty(处罚) that is in the contract.”
Shylock understood that he would not get his pound of flesh. He understood that he would not get his money. He decided to go home.

【原文】One of my favourite books is On the Road by Jack Kerouac. The story took place in the 1950s and it’s about the Bohemian lifestyle. There’s a lot of travelling with no direction and it is just fun. It’s a lot harder for us to do things like that now. But there is still a free spirit that can be found if you try hard enough. I just love it. It’s such an enjoyable book and it makes you want to go across the country and explore, because there are so many places to go. Another thing I really like about the book is the people that the main character and his friends met. That’s something I always want to do: to meet different people and learn about their stories. Now after reading the book, I know that I have to do at least one cross-country trip before I die.

【答案】48. D 49. C 50. B

Companies use big data, too.
