B Robert Winston stepped outside a convenience store with his morning coffee and spotted a homeless man, Paul Krupa, sitting with his back against the building. A small dog sat in his lap. Winston, a vet (兽医) at an animal hospital, noticed its injured fur and skin. He approached the man and offered to bring medication for the dog’s skin, a gift the man readily accepted. “I remember returning a week later, and the hair was coming back and the rash (皮疹) was gone,” Winston told the Modesto Bee. Paul said his dog was finally sleeping at night again because it was no longer feeling restless for its illness. “‘And you know,’ he said, ‘I’m sleeping at night.’ He started to cry, and that got me touched too,” Winston says. Winston was addicted. “When you do good deeds, there is something you get in return that feels much larger. I knew I wanted to keep doing it,” he told medium.com. Today, Winston, 50, has his own practice in town, yet he still finds time for street pets. He’s helped roughly 400 animals since 2011. There’s a great need for his kind of help. About 25 percent of Modesto’s homeless population owns a pet, but there are few healthcare options available to them. To fill that gap, Winston can often be found wandering dark streets and underpasses (地下通道), anywhere he thinks the homeless might be camped out. Winston pays for almost all of it out of his own pocket. For those expensive procedures, he set up a GoFundMe account to help cover treatment costs. “I don’t ever want to have to turn anybody away,” he explains. “To have somebody like Dr. Winston come out here to take care of my dog just because it’s the right thing to do, that’s huge.” Joe, one of the dog owners, said in a video that Winston posted on the GoFundMe page. 4. What did Robert Winston do to help Paul Krupa’s dog? A. Offering mental comfort. B. Introducing some famous vets. C. Providing medical treatment. D. Bringing it to an animal hospital. 5. What directly caused Robert Winston to keep treating street pets with kindness? A. The professional habit of a vet. B. The inspiration from offering help to Paul. C. The population of the homeless. D. The requirements from the animal hospital. 6. Which of the following can best describe Robert Winston? A. Wealthy and caring. B. Kind and generous. C. Smart and humorous. D. Brave and intelligent. 7. What’s the text mainly about? A. Good vets are in great need. B. Street pets should be well treated. C. Winston rose to fame overnight. D. A vet’s kind act makes a difference. C Many of us hold on to little complaints that may have come from an argument, a misunderstanding, the way we were raised, or some other painful events. Stubbornly, we wait for someone else to reach out to us — believing this is the only way we can forgive or rekindle a friendship or family relationship. A friend of mine recently told me that she hadn’t spoken to her son in almost three years. She said that she and her son had had a disagreement about his wife and that she wouldn’t speak to him again unless he called first. When I suggested that she be the one to reach out, she said, “I can’t do that. He’s the one who should apologize.” After a little gentle encouragement, however, she did decide to be the first one to reach out. To her amazement, her son was grateful for her willingness to call and offered an apology of his own. As is usually the case, when someone takes the chance and reaches out, everyone wins. Whenever we hold on to our anger, we turn “small stuff (问题)” into really “big stuff” in our minds. We start to believe that our positions are more important than our happiness. They are not. If you want to be a more peaceful person you must understand that being right is almost never more important than allowing yourself to be happy. The way to be happy is to let go, and reach out. Let other people be right. This doesn’t mean that you’re wrong. Everything will be fine. You’ll experience the peace of letting go, as well as the joy of letting others be right. You’ll also notice that, as you reach out and let others be “right”, they will become less defensive and more loving toward you. They might even reach back. But, if for some reason they don’t, that’s okay too. You’ll have the inner satisfaction of knowing that you have done your part to create a more loving world, and certainly you’ll be more peaceful yourself. 8. The underlined word “rekindle” in Paragraph 1 probably means “________”. A. develop B. recover C. accept D. establish 9. According to the author, we hold on to our anger often because we think ________. A. our own opinions matter most B. others will be less defensive C. our positions are higher than others D. we can turn small issues into big ones 10. The best thing to do after a quarrel is to ________. A. let go of our own rights B. realize you’re wrong C. expect others to give in D. apologize to others first 11. What is the main idea of the passage? A. We should keep peaceful when facing small stuff. B. We should tell apart small and big stuff in our daily life. C. Reaching out and apologizing wins one peace and happiness. D. It’s necessary for us to enjoy our friendship and family relationship. D The practice of students endlessly copying letters and sentences from a blackboard is a thing of the past. With the coming of new technologies like computers and smartphones, writing by hand has become something of a nostalgic (怀旧的) skill. However, while today’s educators are using more and more technology in their teaching, many believe basic handwriting skills are still necessary for students to be successful — both in school and in life. Karen Mitchell, professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington, says it’s important to continue teaching handwriting and help children acquire the skill of writing by hand. Mitchell and her colleagues conducted a study that looked at the ability of students to complete various writing tasks — both on a computer and by hand. The study, published in 2009, found that when writing with a pen and paper, participants wrote longer essays and more complete sentences and had a faster word production rate. In a more recent study, Mitchell looked at what role spelling plays in a student’s writing skills and found that how well children spell is tied to how well they can write. “Spelling makes some of the thinking parts of the brain active, which helps us access our vocabulary, word meaning and concepts. It is allowing our written language to connect with ideas.” Mitchell said. Spelling helps students translate ideas into words in their mind first and then to transcribe (转换) “those words in the mind into written symbols on paper or keyboard and screen,” the study said. Seeing the words in the “mind’s eye” helps children not only to turn their ideas into words, says Mitchell, but also to spot spelling mistakes when they write the words down and to correct them over time. “In our computer age, some people believe that we don’t have to teach spelling because we have spell checks,” she said. “But until a child has a functional spelling ability of about a fifth grade level, they won’t have the knowledge to choose the correct spelling among the options given by the computer.” 12. What makes writing by hand a thing of the past? A. The lack of blackboards in classrooms. B. The popular use of smartphones. C. The use of new technologies in teaching. D. The lack of practice in handwriting. 13. Mitchell’s study published in 2009 indicated ________. A. that students prefer to write with a pen and paper. B. that good essays are made up of long sentences. C. the importance of writing speed and spelling ability. D. the difference between writing by hand and on a computer. 14. Which of the following best shows the role of spelling? A. Spelling improves one’s memory of words. B. Spelling ability is closely related to writing ability. C. Spelling benefits the translation from words into ideas. D. Spelling slows down finding exact words to express ideas. 15. What conclusion could be drawn from the passage? A. Handwriting still has a place in today’s classrooms. B. Spell checks can take the place of spelling teaching. C. Computers can help people with the choice of words. D. Functional spelling ability develops fast in the fifth grade. 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中两项为多余选项。 It’s definitely a positive step if you’re already making the time to exercise. Never let anyone change who you are. This is the lesson I have learned from my childhood experience when I figured out I wasn’t invited to the party, Bridget’s party. One morning, I got off the bus and saw my friends except me hugging under the tree where we used to stand. The circle seemed tighter as I approached;the white invitation cards being hastily stuffed into backpacks gave it away. I knew as well as the entire universe that Bridget’s party was this weekend. Bridget was the most popular girl in our class. She was thin and beautiful, always wearing fabulous clothes and fine makeup. Why hadn’t she invited me? My feet were too big? No. Maybe. My face was broken out? Why did she invite every person in my group except me? I tried to think of any interactions I’d had with Bridget recently. A few days earlier, we’d been partners during a sixth period project. I was determined to get the project done and she was absorbed in looking at fashion magazines. She barely spoke to me except to say, “You’re so serious. You know, you should smile more." Soon, I had overheard all the details about the party. They were going swimming. It was a sleepover. They were renting scary movies and were going to stay up all night. Each time someone mentioned the party, I smiled weakly and nodded, with my stomach in knots. When having my favorite English class, I found myself just unable to concentrate on the short stories we were supposed to be reading in class. Maybe she didn’t invite me because of my coat. It is pretty ugly compared to some of the other girls’ coats. I should have bought another color. Maybe I should smile more but I just can’t get into smiling at people unless I know them really well. But I just couldn’t pretend to be the person I wasn’t. I felt sick. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 At lunch, my friend Kate who had been invited came over to me, trying to show off. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I was about to let it go when Bridget invited me as a substitute for a girl who couldn’t come. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 绝密★考试结束前 浙东北联盟(ZDB)2024/2025学年第一学期期中联考 高二年级英语学科试题 考生须知: 1. How much is the shirt? 【答案】4. C 5. B 6. B 7. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了一个兽医Robert Winston通过自己的善举对街头宠物产生了积极的影响,并获得了许多人的赞赏和支持。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Winston, a vet (兽医) at an animal hospital, noticed its injured fur and skin. He approached the man and offered to bring medication for the dog’s skin, a gift the man readily accepted.(温斯顿是动物医院的一名兽医,他注意到了那只狗受伤的毛发和皮肤。他走近那个人,主动提出要为那只狗的皮肤带些药物来,这份礼物那个人欣然接受了。)”可知,Winston给生病的狗进行了药物治疗。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Winston was addicted. “When you do good deeds, there is something you get in return that feels much larger. I knew I wanted to keep doing it,” he told medium.com.(温斯顿对此上瘾了。“当你做好事的时候,你会得到一种感觉上更加丰厚的回报。我知道我想继续做下去,”他告诉medium.com。)”,当Robert Winston做好事时,他会得到一种更大的回报感。他知道自己想继续这样做。而根据第二段中的故事,他为Paul Krupa的狗提供了医疗帮助,并看到了积极的结果,这给了他继续下去的动力。因此,为Paul提供帮助的启发是直接原因。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Today, Winston, 50, has his own practice in town, yet he still finds time for street pets. He’s helped roughly 400 animals since 2011.(如今,50岁的 Winston在城里有自己的诊所,但他仍然找时间帮助街上的宠物。自2011年以来,他帮助了大约400只动物。)”可知,斯图尔特是个善良的人,以及第五段中“Winston pays for almost all of it out of his own pocket. For those expensive procedures, he set up a GoFundMe account to help cover treatment costs.(Winston几乎所有的钱都是自己掏出来的。对于那些昂贵的手术,他设立了一个GoFundMe账户来帮助支付治疗费用。)”可知,Winston是个慷慨的人。故选B。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。结合全文对于Winston的介绍以及最后一段““To have somebody like Dr. Winston come out here to take care of my dog just because it's the right thing to do, that’s huge.” Joe, one of the dog owners, said in a video that Winston posted on the GoFundMe page(“有像Winston医生这样的人来这里照顾我的狗,这正是最需要的事情,这是巨大的。”狗主人之一乔在Winston发布在GoFundMe页面上的一段视频中说)”可知,本文主要是在介绍一名兽医的善举带来的影响,故选D。 C Many of us hold on to little complaints that may have come from an argument, a misunderstanding, the way we were raised, or some other painful events. 【答案】8. B 9. A 10. D 11. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章主要讲述了我们应该主动伸出援手,向他人道歉,这样才能赢得内心的平静和快乐。 【8题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章第一段“Many of us hold on to little complaints that may have come from an argument, a misunderstanding, the way we were raised, or some other painful events. Stubbornly, we wait for someone else to reach out to us — believing this is the only way we can forgive or rekindle a friendship or family relationship.(我们许多人紧紧抓住可能来自争吵、误解、我们的成长方式或其他痛苦事件的小小抱怨。固执地,我们等待别人向我们伸出援手——相信这是我们原谅或_____友谊或家庭关系的唯一方式)”可知,我们紧紧抓住小小的抱怨,固执地等待别人向我们伸出援手,是因为我们觉得这是原谅或恢复友谊或家庭关系的唯一方式,所以“rekindle”在这里的意思是“恢复”。故选B。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Whenever we hold on to our anger, we turn “small stuff (问题)” into really “big stuff” in our minds. You’ll experience the peace of letting go, as well as the joy of letting others be right.(每当我们坚持自己的愤怒时,我们就会在脑海中把‘小问题’变成真正的‘大问题’。我们开始相信我们的立场比我们的幸福更重要。事实并非如此。如果你想成为一个更平和的人,你必须明白,正确几乎永远不如让自己快乐更重要。快乐的方法是放手,并伸出援手。让别人正确。这并不意味着你是错的。一切都会好起来的。你会体验到放手的平静,以及让别人正确的快乐)”可知,作者认为我们坚持自己的愤怒是因为我们认为我们的立场比我们的幸福更重要,即我们自己的观点最重要。故选A。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“A friend of mine recently told me that she hadn’t spoken to her son in almost three years. As is usually the case, when someone takes the chance and reaches out, everyone wins.(我的一个朋友最近告诉我,她已经近三年没有和儿子说话了。 C“Reaching out and apologizing wins one peace and happiness(主动伸出援手并道歉能赢得内心的平静和快乐)”符合文章主旨。故选C。 D The practice of students endlessly copying letters and sentences from a blackboard is a thing of the past. A that students prefer to write with a pen and paper. B. that good essays are made up of long sentences. C the importance of writing speed and spelling ability. D. the difference between writing by hand and on a computer. 【答案】12. C 13. D 14. B 15. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 At lunch, my friend Kate who had been invited came over to me, trying to show off. She said with pride, “Bridget’s party will definitely be awesome!” I didn’t look at Kate, because if I saw any pity in her eyes, I’d start crying so I pretended to look for something seemingly important in my backpack until she left. I hated Bridget, for she had made my life miserable. Why did I have to change myself to please her? As I changed classes, I averted my eyes from everyone I knew. I determined that I wouldn’t pretend to be the one I wasn’t. I was about to let it go when Bridget invited me as a substitute for a girl who couldn’t come. After class, Bridget headed toward my line, weaving through the crowd. I pretended not to notice and looked straight ahead at the blackboard. I felt a hand on my arm. Bridget held out an invitation. “Will you come to my party?” I looked at the small envelope, relishing the moment. But my mind was a jumble. Now she wanted me to come to her party, but I was just filling a space. “Take it”, I thought. “You know you want to go.” I hesitated and finally said no. I had already found the pleasure of being myself. 假装:pretend to do sth./make as if ②.犹豫:hesitate/in hesitation/hang back ③.取悦:please/try to please/appeal to sb. 情绪类 ①.恨:hate/dislike/can’t stand ②.糟糕的:miserable/depressing/ 【点睛】[高分句型1].
