Sandoval, who comes from Los Angeles, has traveled and filmed in over 50 countries across seven continents and now lives in China. “In 2008, tired of my studio work in the U.S, I came to China, thinking I would be here one or two years, but it has turned out to be 16 years!” he said. He hopes his photographs will inspire others to embark (开始) on adventures as well.
Sandoval is a professional photographer and learned commercial photography at what was then the Brooks Institute of Photography. With the hope of trying something different for himself, he went to Chengdu in Southwest China to live in October 2008 and has traveled throughout the country since then.
In the beginning, he did editorial work for magazines both in and outside Sichuan, such as Vogue. Then he worked with the Sichuan tourism department to produce travel brochures, and also on ad campaigns for destinations for corporate companies.
To him, Chengdu is the capital of a laid-back lifestyle. He was delighted to see that residents, dressed stylishly or comfortably, strolled in the streets “as slowly as snails”. Almost a “walking encyclopedia” of Chengdu, Sandoval covered every corner of Chengdu and recorded Chengduese and their lives with his camera, listening to the sound of mahjong tiles being shuffled and music from traditional stringed instruments.
He also goes from place to place with his heavy travel kit. The varied culture and vast, beautiful land has kept him in China much longer than he had planned in the beginning. He remembers a wide range of adventures like exploring a local vineyard and local wine in Yinchuan City, a riding performance by a Mongolian ethnic group in the Shuidonggou Horse Riding Show, and then the totally different experience of visiting the Hainan Free Trade Port in the south.
He thinks he has done a lot in “this beautiful and vast country” with his “travel photos”. “I try to show people the beauty of where I go. I try to inspire them to travel and go to places. I’m hoping to do more international work,” he said.
24. Why did Sandoval come to China?
A. He was not good at studio work.
B. He wanted to step out of the comfort zone.
C. He had a preference for international work.
D. He was attracted by the picturesque nature of China.
25. What does the underlined word “laid-back” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Relaxing. B. Simple. C. Luxurious. D. Healthy.
26. Sandoval’s experiences around China are mentioned in Paragraph 5 to show _____.
A. Sandoval’s diverse hobbies
B. Sandoval’s desire for new careers
C. Sandoval’s superb photo technique
D. Sandoval’s fascination for Chinese culture
27. What is the writing purpose of this passage?
A. To call on readers to take up photography.
B. To praise Sandoval for spreading Chinese culture.
C. To promote the development of tourism in Chengdu.
D. To introduce the experience of a professional photographer.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has to recall hundreds of foods every year. Like cookie snack packs with pieces of blue plastic hiding inside, dressing and sauce containing salmonella (沙门氏菌) or various jams containing with lead (铅).
It can take a few months before a recall (召回) is issued. But now researchers have come up with a method that might fast-track that process, leading to early detection and, ultimately, faster recalls. The AI system relies on the fact that people increasingly buy foods and spices online. And people tend to write reviews of products they buy online, which are like bread crumbs (包屑) to food-safety officials sniffing (嗅) out dangerous products.
The researchers linked FDA food recalls from 2012 to 2014 to Amazon reviews of those same products. They then trained machine-learning algorithms (算法) to distinguish between reviews for recalled items and reviews for items that had not been flagged. And the trained algorithms were able to predict FDA recalls three quarters of the time. They also identified another 20, 000 reviews for possibly unsafe foods, most of which had never been recalled. The results are published in Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.
The World Health Organization estimates that 600 million people worldwide get sick annually from polluted food, and more than 400,000 people die from it. “So having tools that enable us to detect this a lot faster and hopefully investigate and do recalls faster will be useful not just in the U. S. but in other countries around the world as well.” Study author Elaine Nsoesie of Boston University. She did add one warning even recalled products can still get five-star reviews. So stars alone don’t tell the whole sickening story. The proof unfortunately, may still be in the pudding.
28. What will help FDA recall unsafe foods faster than before?
A. Efforts of food-safety officials
B. Lots of online reviews of products
C. New measures of food-safety officials.
D. Online reviews of the polluted foods
29. How does the author introduce the process of the research?
A. By describing facts. B. By giving examples
C. By giving definitions. D. By making comparisons.
30. What’s Elaine’s attitude towards five-star reviews?
A. Unconcerned B. Doubtful C. Neutral D. Approving
31. Which may be the most suitable title for the text?
A. AI Sniffs out Unsafe Foods
B. FDA Detects Unsafe foods
C. AI Helps FDA Judge Reviews
D. FDA Develops System of Judging Reviews

The Wuyishan National Park, known for its amazing landscapes and respected tea industry, has taken significant steps to safeguard its traditional tea heritage and industry, while using technological advances to raise the incomes of local people.
Home to one of China’s largest and most diverse subtropical forests, Wuyi Mountain is the only place in the country where Wuyi rock tea is grown. In the 18th century, Wuyi rock tea was the most popular tea in Europe. However, illegal land reclamation (开垦) of tea mountains and the destruction of plant resources damaged the environment in the area around Wuyi Mountain.
Then the Wuyishan National Park was established in 2021, as one of the first batch of China’s national parks. The park authorities have cooperated with tea experts to make up a strategy for the improvement of the Wuyi Mountain tea industry and biodiversity.
“In order to better protect the forest, we must respect and preserve the existing areas for the locals to plant and live on, but further expansion has been restricted.” said Huang Zhimin, a researcher with the park’s management bureau.
Eco-friendly plantations that use the “tea forest” and “tea grass” models have been introduced to the park. Moreover, the authorities provide farmers with free seedlings (幼苗) of precious broad-leaved trees like nanmu. This practice not only protects local biodiversity, but also improves the quality of the tea.
The Wuyishan National Park’s authorities have been working with tea experts to improve production and quality through the use of innovative technological methods. A local farmer said: “In the past, we lacked knowledge of scientific tea field management, which resulted in teas of average quality that were only suitable for basic daily consumption. Now, with the help of scientific approaches, the quality of our teas has risen significantly.”
32. What was the Wuyishan National Park intended for?
A. To attract more tourists to come here.
B. To examine innovative technological methods.
C. To arouse the awareness of protecting the biodiversity.
D. To promote the eco-environment and tea quality.
33. What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Asking the authorities for help.
B. Decreasing land reclamation of tea mountains.
C. Using eco-friendly plantations.
D. Growing all the broad-leaved trees.
34. What can be inferred according to the local farmer?
A. They benefit a lot from the tourism of the national park.
B. The quality of their teas are much better than before.
C. The scientific approaches make no difference to them.
D. Their knowledge of tea field management is the best.
35. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A novel. B. A medical book.
C. A tourist brochure. D. A magazine.

For nearly a decade, I’ve interviewed scores of high achievers, from astronauts to Olympic gold medalists to Nobel Prize winners. What was revealing is that all high achievers had four things in common.
Tap into your intrinsic (内在的) motivation.
36 ? Getting to the “why” behind your career choice is critical, as it will help you get in touch with your deepest motivations, block out distractions, and potentially adjust with your current path. For the highest achievers, it's not about the medals, rewards, or promotions. They all told me that they loved what they did, could not imagine another path, and would do it for free if they could.
Get comfortable with failure.
Some people fear failing, while others fear succeeding. 37 . For them, it’s not a question of whether they can overcome a challenge; the focus is always on how they can. They consider alternative strategies and work fiercely to control what they can control, and ignore distractions.
Reinforce (加强) your foundation.
Despite all of their achievements, high achievers never rest on their honors. Even if they’ve done a task or routine countless times, they still work on the basic skills foundational to their current and future success. 38 It’s also the strategy marathon runners use when they train in high altitudes so that running the race in normal conditions feels easier.
39
The high achievers I spoke with are continuously open to learning, although it is rarely in the classroom. Many of the Nobel Prize winners I spoke to were also inspired as a result of their openness and curiosity. Several shared that their breakthrough ideas occurred through casual conversations with colleagues in cafeterias and laundry rooms. Conference lectures, coffee breaks and group meals are not just for building your network. 40
A. Become a lifelong learner.
B. Be the best whatever you do.
C. They’re where new ideas take root and develop.
D. Why did you enter your chosen profession.
E. Achievers fear “not trying” more than they fear failing.
F. In the military, people are similarly told to “train hard, fight easy”.
G. What should we do to realize our dreams and live a life without regret.

Like many others, I love my smartphone, which keep me 56 (connect) with the larger world. I also love my laptop, because it holds all of my writing and thoughts. However, I know there are times 57 I need to move away from these devices and truly communicate with others.
On occasion, I teach a course called History Matters to 58 group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas. To let students 59 (complete) study the materials and exchange their ideas in the classroom, I have a rule — no laptop, iPads, phones, etc. When students 60 (tell) my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy.
Most students assume that my reasons for this rule include past unpleasant experiences with students 61 (use) technology incorrectly. Some assume that I oppose technology. The real reason is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversations 62 truly focus on complex ideas. Interruptions (打断) by technology often break 63 (concentrate) and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas.
I have been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction 64 the environment that I create. Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that 65
(help) them keep the course materials beyond the classroom.

第二节(满分25分)
It was a warm summer evening, and the excitement in the air was evident as students gathered in the school hall for the annual welcome party. The event was a chance for everyone to showcase their talents and bond with new classmates. I had been practicing for weeks, preparing a dance routine that I hoped would impress my peers and help me make new friends.
As the evening progressed, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement building up inside me. The performances before mine were impressive, and the audience’s applause (掌声) and cheers filled the hall with energy. Finally, my name was called, and it was my turn to step onto the stage.
Taking a deep breath, I walked confidently to the center of the stage. The spotlight shone brightly, and I could feel the eyes of the audience on me. The music began, and I started my dance. Everything was going smoothly until, halfway through my routine, disaster struck. My shoe lace (鞋带) had come undone, and before I knew it, my foot caught on the lace, causing me to trip and fall hard onto the stage.
Time seemed to stop moving as I lay there, and there was silence in the hall. Then, the silence was broken by laughter and the sound of cameras clicking. Some students were even pointing and laughing. My face turned red with embarrassment, and I wished the ground would swallow (吞下) me up right then and there.
Just as I was about to get up, still terrified, my teacher, Mrs. Johnson, appeared on stage. She walked over to me, her expression showing concern and determination. Gently helping me to my feet, she turned to the audience and addressed them with a firm voice.
“Everyone makes mistakes,” she said, her voice ringing through the hall. “It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of the audience, and we should support each other, not make fun of each other. I expect better from all of you. We are a community, and we must lift each other up, especially in moments like these.” The hall suddenly fell silent.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Para1:
With a smile, Mrs. Johnson gave me a gentle push to continue my performance.

第二节(满分 25分)
Para1:
With a smile, Mrs. Johnson gave me a gentle push to continue my performance. Though my legs were shaking and my heart was pounding, I took another deep breath, steadied myself, and restarted the music. The encouraging smiles and nods from the audience gave me the strength I needed. As I moved across the stage, I poured my heart into the dance, with each step and every movement becoming more confident. The audience began to clap along, and their energy inspired me. By the time the final note played, I felt a wave of relief and accomplishment wash over me.
Para2:
After my performance, I walked off the stage. My classmates surrounded me, their faces filled with concern. “Are you okay?” “That was so brave of you!” “I’m sorry for laughing earlier.” The warmth and support I felt in that moment were overwhelming. It was as if the embarrassing stumble had turned into a bonding experience for all of us. I realized then that this was more than just a welcome party; it was the start of new friendships and a reminder of the power of support. Mrs. Johnson’s words transformed an embarrassing moment into a lesson in kindness.

【Text 10】
M: Many people know about Lake Baikal from textbooks or by listening to Chinese singer Li Jian’s hit song, Lake Baikal. ⑱But in recent years, the world’s deepest freshwater lake has been paid much attention to because of an extreme sport. Each March since 2005, about 150 people from around the world sign up for the Baikal Ice Marathon. They come to explore the lake’s extraordinary beauty and challenge themselves in unpredictable conditions. ⑲The 41.84-kilometer journey starts on the lake’s eastern shore. In March, the ice is a meter thick and very hard. Runners cross this frozen surface, finishing on the western side of the lake. Known as the “blue eye of Siberia”, the lake has clear water. Seen from above, a runner on the ice looks as if he or she was jogging through space. The landscape might be beautiful but it is a severe test. ⑳However, runners say the cold climate is what draws them. They want to challenge themselves.
