My passion for the field of dietetics (营养学) started at a very young age. Ever
since I can remember, I have been dreaming of becoming a pastry chef.
I grew up being part of various sports teams. As I grew older, I noticed how food
influenced my performance as an athlete. I started reading more about nutrition and
高二 英语(学科) 第 4 页 共 10 页
signed up for an introductory nutrition course during my first year of college.
However, I noticed when I entered my dietetics classes, that I looked quite
different from most students. I was the only ethnically diverse student in my classes.
My mom was born in Austria and my father in Iran. They met in Austria and
moved to the U. S. before my brother and I were born. They exposed us to their own
traditional cultural foods, and I grew up eating a combination of Iranian and
Austrian dishes.
I remember never having a taste for school cafeteria food, so I always requested
my mom pack me lunch. She would pack me leftovers from dinner, such as a kuku
sabzi, a Persian egg and herb frittata, or schnitzel with dartoffelsalad, a typical
Austrian dish of fried breaded chicken. At times, I felt embarrassed about my meals,
and would hide these from my peers to avoid the horrible question of, “Ew, what is
that?” However, over time, and once I became a qualified RD (注册营养师 ), I
realized my unique background allowed me to connect more deeply with others
from different cultures.
I encouraged my clients to share what they grew up eating and what foods were
customary to their unique upbringing. I developed nutrition recommendations for
my clients that included traditional food from their heritage culture. These
experiences and my dual heritage background empowered me to encourage my
clients and other RDs to proudly share their unique cultural foods, to stop feeling
embarrassed, but instead embrace our differences and increase cultural awareness in
the field of dietetics.
24. What made the author take the nutrition course in college?
A. His dream of being a pastry chef as a child.
B. His thirst for dietetics knowledge all his life.
C. His awareness of the effect of food on his sports.
D. His lack of essential nutrition for physical health.
25. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The author’s favorite dishes. B. The author’s mixed identities.
C. The author’s culture tendency. D. The author’s childhood memory.
26. Why did the author dislike being asked about his meals?
A. They looked very odd. B. They were not authentic.
C. They had a terrible taste. D. They involve cultural secret.
27. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To criticize people’s cultural prejudice.
B. To share his unique growth experiences.
C. To advertise food from his hometown.
D. To encourage accepting cultural diversity.

As cities balloon with growth, access to nature for people living in urban areas is
becoming harder to find. If you’re lucky, there might be a pocket park near where
you live, but it’s unusual to find places in a city that are relatively wild.
Past research has found enormous health and wellness benefits of nature for
humans, but a new study shows that wildness in urban areas is extremely important
for human well- being.
The research team focused on a large urban park. They surveyed several hundred
park-goers, asking them to submit (提交) a written summary online of a meaningful
interaction they had with nature in the park. The researchers then examined these
submissions, coding (编码) experiences into different categories (类别;种类). For
example, one participant’s experience of “We sat and listened to the waves at the
beach for a while” was assigned (确定 ) the categories “sitting at beach” and
“listening to waves.”
Across the 320 submissions, a pattern of categories the researchers call a “nature
language” began to appear. After the coding of all submissions, half a dozen
categories were noted most often as important to visitors. These include encountering
wildlife, walking along the edge of water, and following an established trail.
Naming each nature experience creates a usable language, which helps people
recognize and take part in the activities that are most satisfying and meaningful to
them. For example, the experience of walking along the edge of water might be
satisfying for a young professional on a weekend hike in the park. Back downtown
during a workday, they can enjoy a more domestic (家庭的) form of this interaction
by walking along a fountain on their lunch break.
“We’re trying to create a language that helps bring the human-nature interactions
back into our daily lives. And for that to happen, we also need to protect nature so
that we can interact with it,” said Peter Kahn, a senior author of the study.
28.What phenomenon does the author describe at the beginning of the text?
A.Pocket parks are now popular.
B.Wild nature is hard to find in cities.
C.Many cities are overpopulated.
D.People enjoy living close to nature.
29.Why did the researchers code participant submissions into categories?
A.To compare different types of park-goers.
B.To explain why the park attracts tourists.
C.To analyze the main features of the park.
D.To find patterns in the visitors’ summaries.
高二 英语(学科) 第 6 页 共 10 页
30.What can we learn from the example given in paragraph5?
A.Walking is the best way to get access to nature.
B.Young people are too busy to interact with nature.
C.The same nature experience takes different forms.
D.The nature language improves work performance.
31.What should be done before we can interact with nature according to Kahn?
A.Language study. B.Environmental conservation.
C.Public education. D.Intercultural communication.

Roughly 42% of Americans are nearsighted today, compared to 25% in 1971. The
WHO predicts that about half of the world’s population will have myopia, or
nearsightedness, by 2050. It’s clear that our vision is becoming increasingly blurry.
On seeing this, while our first reaction is to blame the increased use of screens,
experts believe the real reason is not that, exactly, but it’s related: namely less time
spent outdoors. Exposure to natural light stimulates dopamine(多巴胺 ), helping
regulate normal growth and development of the eyeball. Indoor lighting doesn’t do
the trick. Ideally, kids should get at least two hours of natural light a day.
Still, our increased use of screens is a problem. Most screens are high
contrast—like black text on a white page, or light text on a dark background. It’s
still a theory, but some scientists think that the contrast of reading a book or looking
at a bright screen in a dark room might be overstimulating our retinas(视网膜 ),
causing more eye growth problems in children. A 2018 study in Scientific Records
analyzed the retinal pathways when looking at black text on white backgrounds
compared to natural environments, and concluded the contrast could stimulate
myopia. Close work, like reading and looking closely at screens, has also been
shown to cause myopia.
Researchers are working on ways to slow down rising myopia rates. A recent
clinical trial found eye-drops with a low dose of atropine can slow myopia in kids.
There’s also some early evidence that peripheral defocus lenses(周边离焦透镜 )
might help stop nearsightedness from worsening.
It’s strongly recommended that regular eye examinations should be a must, for
people with myopia are at a higher risk of developing eye issues as they age, such as
glaucoma, early cataracts and macular degeneration. You can also reduce eye
pressure by making a few simple lifestyle changes, such as ensuring that you are
reading or working in good light, and taking frequent breaks, etc.
32. What does the underlined word “blurry” in paragraph1 mean?
A. Unclear B. Normal C.Bright D. Important
高二 英语(学科) 第 7 页 共 10 页
33. What’s the real reason why so many people are nearsighted?
A. Dramatically increased use of screens.
B. Looking at screens at a short distance.
C. Not enough exposure to natural light.
D. Not having enough breaks when working.
34. Why does the author mention the 2018 study in Scientific Records?
A. To call on readers to remove their incorrect eye habits.
B. To prove to readers the seriousness of nearsightedness.
C. To support the link between high contrast and myopia.
D. To show he is well-informed of the advances in this field.
35. What’s the main structure of this passage?
A. Questions—answers. B. Problem—reasons—solutions.
C. Problem—changes—effects. D. Viewpoint—arguments—conclusion.

With one and half years of senior school to go, you're probably experiencing a
mix of emotions: excitement about what the future holds, and maybe anxiety about
how to handle the coming exams. Don't worry! Here are a few things that will help
you get through the rest of your senior school.
36 This means setting up a system that works for you to keep track of important
dates, assignments, and deadlines. This can be as simple as using a planner. In this
way, you can stay on top of your work and avoid any last-minute hurry.
Manage your time wisely. Learn to balance your academic tasks with
extracurricular and social activities. 37 For example, you might dedicate
Mondays to Thursdays to homework, Fridays to extracurricular activities, and
Saturdays to sports and hanging out with friends. Whatever system you choose, just
ensure it works for you and helps you stay on track.
Keep your grades up. Letting your grades slip during the senior year can be easy.
To avoid this, create a study schedule that allows you to focus on one subject at a
time. Meanwhile, do ask for help from your teachers and parents if you're struggling
with a particular concept. 38
Set goals, not time limits. Most people set time limits on their goals, such as “I'll
finish reviewing this book by Friday!" or something like that. 39 So just focus
on the goal, not the time frame. For example, rather than saying you'll finish
reviewing one book by Friday, focus on what you need to do to make that happen.
Embrace your passions and start exploring potential careers. Think about what
subjects you enjoy most and what courses you're passionate about. From there,
高二 英语(学科) 第 8 页 共 10 页
research potential careers that are in line with your interests. 40 The more you
know about a particular career, the better equipped you'll be to decide your future.
A. Give back.
B.Get organized.
C.Step outside your comfort zone and try new things.
D.They are there to support you and want you to succeed.
E. It's a good idea to set specific days or hours for each task.
F. And reach out to people in those fields for advice and guidance.
G.Putting pressure on yourself to meet these deadlines can be stressful.

Joel stared at the ground. Rather, he stared at what was lying on the ground: a
robotic glove. It was made of metal, with black and yellow paint. Joel looked around
his backyard. How did a robotic glove end up next to his dad's vegetable garden?
In any case, Joel had found it. And no one else was around.
That meant only one thing: finders keepers. Wasn't that how finders keepers
worked? If you found something and couldn’t find the owner, it was yours.
The robotic glove was now Joel’s. Picking up the glove, Joel realized it wasn’t as
heavy as he expected it would be. Even though it was much bigger than his own
hand, he decided to try it on. He slipped his hand inside and felt the machine come
to life. It beeped three times. Joel moved his fingers, and the robot fingers moved
too. Joel walked over to a large tree branch that had fallen in his yard and wrapped
the robotic fingers around it. He lifted the branch. It should have been heavy, but
with the glove it was no heavier than a small branch.
He couldn’t believe it. Maybe it was a kind of antigravity machine reported in the
newspaper. Now, what was he going to do with it?
Joel’s mom was inside rearranging the furniture. He could walk in and say “Do
you need a hand with that?” before easily picking up the couch and setting it
somewhere else.
At the library, he could say “Let me help” and carry in a tall stack of boxes filled
with books. At the park, he could say “How about we eat lunch over there?” and
carry the picnic table to a shady spot.
Everything would feel as light as a pencil. He’d feel like a superhero.
But first, he wanted to show his dad what he’d found. He started running toward
the front yard. That's when he heard someone call, “Has anyone seen my robotic
glove?” Joel stopped short.
Near the garage, his dad was talking to their new next-door neighbor, Mr. Shore.
“I haven't seen a robotic glove,” Joel's dad said.

Joel’s eyes widened when he realized the glove belonged to Mr. Shore. Staring at
it, he felt caught in a dilemma, though he knew finders keepers didn't work if you
found the owner. However, seeing the disappointment on Mr. Shore's face, he knew
what he should do. Then, Joel ran over, took off the glove, and handed it to his
neighbor. “I found it in the backyard,” Joel said with a determined voice.“I have
tried it on and it's amazing.” Hearing that, Mr.Shore’s face lit up with relief. (78)
Just then, Joel’s mom called out, “Help me move the couch!” He hesitated
because without the glove, his dream of being a superhero faded away. A mixture of
disappointment and anxiety took hold of him. Observing Joel was at a loss, Mr.
Shore said to Joel with a broad smile.“Would you like to use it?”“Yes, I’d love
to.”Joel replied with a joyful heart, taking over the glove and rushing to his mom.
Upon slipping into the glove he felt the couch was as light as a pencil. Joel felt like a
real superhero who had not only super power but also an honest heart.(95)

M: It’s on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 and we’ll get at the school gate at 3:00. So, are you
coming?
W: No. I don’t think so. I’ve got piano lessons at 2:30 every Saturday.
M: Can’t you have it on another day?
W: But my mother really likes it.
M: Come on, Lisa. This is the finals. Our school team has been working hard and they need our
support.
W: Well, let me talk with my mom first, okay?
M: Once you have made a decision, just give me a call.

W: Oh. That’s the second bus that has gone on my phone. I wonder where all the people come
from.
M: I really think they should let more people on at this time of the day when there's so many
people going to work.
W: But they won’t allow people to stand on the bus. You know, too dangerous.
M: I don’t mind that. Look.
W: I think that is an 11, isn’t it?
M: No, I’m afraid not. It’s 17. I think I’ll go by underground tomorrow.
W: No, not me, I can’t stand all stuck in standing. Besides, I need to look at the scenery.
M: I see what you mean. Oh. Here comes a number of them, two, no, three. Anyway, we are sure
to get on one of them.

W: Hi, my name is Anne Smith.
M: Hi. I’m Bill Harrington.
W: Mr. Harrington, I need to ask you a few questions before I show you what we have. First,
what price can you accept?
M: Somewhere between 800 and 900 rent a month?
W: Okay, did you have a particular place in mind?
M: Well, I would like to live somewhere near the university or at least on the bus line. I have a
class to attend early in the morning.
W: Okay. Are there any other things you would like to have? For example, a dishwasher, a
swimming pool or air condition?
M: I would certainly like to have a dishwasher and some of like this air conditioning would be
necessary. Oh, Yes. And two bedrooms will be nice.
W: Okay. Here are photos of the flat that meet your requirements.
M: Thank you. This one past the street looks nice. I would like to see it and the one on Main
Street.
W: Sure, let me get the keys and we can go right away.
M: Great. Thank you.

W: Hi, everybody. Welcome to the Sea Life Centre. This is an extremely exciting place with so
many things to see. It costs £4 with grown-ups and £2 for children. It opens at 8:30 a.m. every
day of the year except the 25th and 26th of December when the centre is closed. Special
attractions to the children include the hourly feeding times for all the different fish. Starting at
9:30 a.m., you can see everything here from the biggest fish to the smallest. Every morning from
10:00, there are short films for children in the Sea Life Theatre.
Someone is always there to answer questions about what she’s seen. The latest attraction of the
center is a big glass passage you can walk through all around you. You’ll see fish swimming
sometimes even over your head. You certainly have a fierce possible view of the underwater
world children like. It’s really amazing for grown-ups, too. I’m sure you have a good time here.
