He listed the terrible things at school. I listened carefully, looking at him and nodding now and then. After his complaint, I asked what good things happened to him. “Nothing.” His response was what I could expect. “Something good must have happened. Think it over, my boy.” I encouraged with a gentle smile. After about fifteen minutes’ effort, he admitted being praised by his head teacher for helping cleaning the teacher’ s desk. Through this practice, he realized something good really happened to him. From then on, Jake came to understand the power of seeing good points. He would not just consider everything awful, but was willing to discover something awesome. And to my great joy, he kept patient and peaceful during his sharing. He even danced in excitement at wonderful things. I witnessed his attitude changing from negativity to positivity. The path to getting there seemed to be a struggle, but he was making headway. My hard work was paying off and I believed Jake would get used to seeing the cup of life as half full.     听力原文(每题1分,共20分): 听力原文 Text 1 M: My sister wanted me to lend her some money. But I’m short of money myself. I don’t know what I should do. W: Just tell her the truth. M: I’m afraid I can’t. Maybe I’ll ask Linda to give me some money. Text 2 W: I’m afraid I can’t come to the party tomorrow night. I have to work on a report for school. M: Well, why don’t you at least try to stop by for a little while? W: OK, then. Text 3 W: I saw a good band at last Saturday’s rock festival. The singer was great! M: The band with the piano player? W: I didn’t see anything with a piano. The singer was called Queen Cat. She could really dance, too. M: Oh, I know what you mean — the band had three guitars. Text 4 W: Which do you prefer, magazines or books? M: Um, I prefer reading magazines. Because I like a quick read. W: Yeah, you can pick them up and put them down just after a short reading. And they’re cheaper than books. And sometimes they have interesting ads. Text 5 M: Can we have a double room, please? W: Certainly. With a bath or a shower? M: We prefer the room which has a shower. Text 6 M: How was your chemistry exam? W: I thought I was going to get a C in chemistry, but I got a B. My parents will be OK with that. M: You are lucky. I got a D in chemistry. W: Oh my gosh! Are your parents going to kill you? M: They know I hate chemistry. I told them not to expect good grades in chemistry, and they understand. W: You are so lucky you have understanding parents like them. Text 7[来源:Z。xx。k.Com] M: Hello. I wonder if you could help me. Would you mind if I left my instrument for just one minute? I have to make a phone call. W: No. I’m sorry, sir. It’s not allowed. M: It’s only for a short time. W: It’s against the rules. No instruments can be left in reception for security reasons. M: Is there anywhere I can leave them? W: You can leave it at the bag office on the left. M: Where’s that? W: It’s next to the dining room. M: OK. Thanks. Text 8 W: And just to finish our news — Chris Peterson is going to tell us about the new Cross ways sports and fitness center. M: Thanks. It’s almost finished and the sports center will be open to the public on June 16th — that’s for sports and swimming. The fitness center isn’t quite finished, and won’t be open until 21st August, instead of 10th July as planned. W: And will you give us some information now about what we can do in the sports center? M: Sure. The center provides volleyball, basketball and table tennis indoors. And there are also outdoor sports like football and tennis. There’s also a new swimming pool. W: OK, thank you for your report, Chris. Text 9 M: Hey, Judy, what are you reading? W: Well, a passage about wildlife protection organizations. M: Really? I’ve read something about the World Wildlife Fund, you know, whose official sign is a picture of a panda. W: Yeah. It has been working to protect the world’s endangered species since it was founded in 1961. You know there are organizations who focus on certain animals. M: Really? That’s interesting. W: Here it says the Audubon Society focuses on the protection of birds and the Oceanic Society has been working to protect sea wildlife, such as whales, dolphins and other kinds of fish since its foundation in 1969. M: Oh, I know the Audubon Society is named after an American wildlife painter. W: Yes, that’s right. There’s also this one, the Wilderness Society, who works to make sure that the forests, rivers and mountains of the United States remain untouched so that everyone can enjoy their clean air and water. The Wilderness Society tries to educate the public about that from its head office in Washington, D.C. to its eight branch offices across the United States.[来源:学§科§网Z§X§X§K] Text 10 W: Hello, everyone. My name is Caroline Benson. I never expected to spend some of my first year at university filming The Finnegans. I’d only ever acted at school, but I’d loved the book since I was eleven. My grandmother used to say I was just like Polly Finnegan and I always imagined myself playing her. And I believe I could play the part well. I’d taken a year off to go traveling before university. While I was in Chile, my mother e-mailed me to say there were plans to turn the book into a film. I knew I had to go for the part. She was surprised at first, but sent my photo to the director and persuaded him to meet me. I flew back and got the part. The outdoor filming took a long time, so I got permission from the university to be away for three weeks. Once I was back at university, I got up at 6:00 a.m. to write the essays I’d missed. I didn’t tell my university friends, but they found out and thought it was great. It was a wonderful experience — I’m so lucky. 第二部分 阅读解析 第一节 A A 篇:本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了四款学习工具。 21. B For the creatively minded, snow represents a large blank canvas(空白画布) for art. But often, it's limited to snowmen or other snow statues. Simon Beck had a different idea, and over the course of a decade he has carved a path for himself in the snow art world. He creates large land art by walking across soccer-field-sized areas covered in untouched snow. Combined with light and shadow, his artistic designs can only be fully appreciated when viewed from above. Beck, 59, a former map maker turned into a snow artist, thanks to his decision late in life to pursue his hobby. “It started just as a joke one day really,” Beck explained, “After skiing one day, I decided to make a drawing on snow to seek pleasure---” “I really had no idea how good it would look when I made that first drawing, but it really went beyond my expectation, "he said of his first ever creation that he looked down on from a ski lift. To create this work, Beck stepped his way through the snow using only snowshoes and a ski pole for measurement with nothing else but the image of a design idea in his head. It was not challenging at all due to his previous work experience. But as his designs developed and became more complex , Beck said he began to start drawing them on paper first. Beck's paintings have become a huge hit since his work was first shared. “Most of the time l had been doing failed careers, and people around me are asking what's the quickest way of getting rid of this person, "Beck said. “And for the first time, I felt people actually wanted me. I felt like a more valued member of society.” 24. Where does Simon Beck create art? A. On maps. B. On snowfields. C. On soccer fields. D. On canvas. 25. Why did Beck create his first drawing? A. To entertain the skiers. B. To prove his talent. C. To have fun. D. To develop a new hobby. 26. How did Beck feel about his first artwork? A. Indifferent. B. Unsatisfied. C. Annoyed. D. Surprised. 27. What contributed to Beck's art creation? A. His experience of making maps. B. His competitive nature. C. His dream to be an artist. D. His passion for skiing. C While electronics can make life easier and more entertaining, the devices aren't easy on the environment. As newer, more advanced devices come out, huge amounts of old electronics are thrown away, instead of being recycled. These items often end up in landfills, where the chemicals inside them may be a danger to the environment. Electronics can contain noxious materials like lead or mercury(汞). If these materials get into the ground or water, the pollution can cause serious problems. Most electronics require rare metals. These metals must be mined from the earth. Often the mining process creates serious pollution. In many cases, these materials are getting harder and harder to find. If more e-waste was recycled, many of those rare metals could be taken from old electronic devices instead of being mined. A group known as WEEE ( Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Forum) is trying to make people more aware of the problems of e-waste. WEEE says that the rare metals and other materials that get thrown out as e-waste every year are worth about $57 billion. Recently, WEEE asked researchers from the United Nations to study a kind of e-waste that's often not noticed because people don't consider the items to be electronics. The WEEE calls this type “invisible” e waste. The surprising type leading the invisible e-waste group was toys. Worldwide, about7.3 billion electronic toys are thrown away each year. In all, toys make up about 35% of invisible e-waste, But the problem is far larger than just toys. The report also shows that other everyday items like alarms, power tools, and computer cables(电缆) are also big sources of invisible e-waste. The UN report says that 36% of the world's invisible e-waste comes from these three types. WEEE is hoping that as more people and governments become aware of e-waste, they will make a much greater effort to make sure electronics get reused or recycled. 28. What does the underlined word “noxious" mean in paragraph 2? A. Critical. B. Harmful. C. Powerful. D. Abnormal. 29. How can we reduce the impact of rare metal mining on the environment? A. Looking for alternative options. B. Reducing the production of electronic devices. C. Buying rare metals from other countries. D. Recycling rare metals from e-waste. 30. Which items account for the highest percentage of “invisible” e-waste? A. Alarms. B. Toys. C. Power tools. D. Computer cables. 31. What is WEEE's hope for the future of e-waste? A. That e-waste will soon no longer be a problem. B. A global law on electronic devices will be issued. C. Everyone will play a part in the reusing and recycling of electronics. D. E-waste will be burned to avoid damage to the environment. D A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was a large and magnificently brilliant star that shone across the young expanding universe. The light from that blue star travelled through space for billions of years, and then one day a few thin beams crashed into a polished mirror-the light bucket of the Hubble Space Telescope. In a report published Wednesday in the journal Nature, a team of astronomers asserts that this is the most distant individual star ever seen. They describe it as 50 to100 times more massive than our sun, and roughly 1 million times brighter, with its starlight having travelled 12. 9 billion years to reach the telescope. The lead author on the report, Brian Welch, gave the star a name: Earendel , meaning “morning stars”. "Earendel was found in a young galaxy known as the Sunrise Arc, and' morning stars' seemed appropriate ,” Weleh said. “This is one of the major discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope in its 32 years of observation, "said Rogier Windhorst, a co-author of the report. In recent decades , astronomers have seen galaxies at that distance, and even farther away, but galaxies are collections of billions of stars and the very distant ones have typical been nothing more than smudges of light. Despite its mass and brilliance, Earendel's discovery would not have been possible were it not for the cosmic alignment. Between Hubble and the star lies a galaxy cluster, WHL0137-08, which is so huge that its mass wraps the fabric of space , creating a power of natural magnifying(放大) glass that magnifies the light form objects behind it, a phenomenon known as gravitational lensing(引力透镜效应), Earendel sits on or close to that space ripple, causing it to "pop out” from the general glow of its galaxy because the phenomenon magnified its brightness at least a thousand fold. In interviews this week, several scientists who are not part of the Earendel team praised the discovery, noting that further observations could firm up the claim and potentially provide insights into the early evolution of stars. 32. How does the first paragraph develop? A. By describing the process. B. By making comparisons. C. By listing several figures. D. By analyzing cause and effect. 33. What can we learn from the passage? A. Astronomers have never discovered galaxies that far. B. Brian Welch made the discovery of the Earendel alone. C. Both Earendel and the galaxy Sunrise Arc are very old. D. The star Earendel is quite different from the Sun. 34. According to Paragraph 5, why the star could be discovered? A. Because the star is incredibly huge in its mass. B. Because the brightness of the star is enhanced enormously. C. Because the star shines brightly enough to be detected. D. Because the Hubble space telescope is properly placed in space. 35. What is the attitude of other scientists toward the discovery? A. Critical. B. Indifferent. C. Appreciative. D. Doubtful. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Push yourselves beyond the limits Limits are blocks between you and your success. Every day when he came home from school, Jake would list everything bad that happened that day! On his ninth birthday, we saved enough money to take the family to Disneyland for two days. His dad and I didn't make much then, so it cost a considerable amount, but we felt Jake’ s birthday was worth it. After doing Disneyland to death(玩够了), we returned to our hotel room, all exhausted. And I asked the birthday boy, “Did you have fun today, Jake?” All my fault-finding son could say to me was “Pirates(海盗) of the Caribbean was closed! ”“Jake Marshall,” I was clearly unable to contain my anger, “we stood in line for an hour and a half to see The Haunted Mansion. We rode Space Mountain three times. We spent two days playing in the park, and all you can say is, Pirates of the Caribbean was closed.” Clearly, something had to be done about his negative attitude and I was going to be the one to do it! I was determined to help him. I read every article and bought every book. With the help of great resources, I found my son had the tendency to see the worst in every situation. My research told me that people with negativity have an emotional need for order and sensitivity. That meant I needed to listen to my son's daily pessimistic reports. My usual reaction was to try to talk Jake out of his negativity, but that wouldn't satisfy his need for sensitivity, so I had to let him finish his complaints and ask what good things happened. Then I needed to wait until he could tell me. This would help Jake realize that good things really were happening to him. 注意:1.续写词数应为150 左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 One day Jake came home from school and complained as usual. From then on, Jake came to understand the power of seeing good points. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
