【答案】
Before leaving the hospital, Grace decided to help other patients in need, just like what Emma had done to her. She began by volunteering in the hospital’s support group for patients, sharing her journey of recovery and the hope that Emma instilled in her. Grace’s story inspired other patients, providing them with the courage to face their own battles. Her kind gestures and warm smiles brought comfort and strength to those around her, creating a ripple effect of positivity and hope.
The day when Grace checked out came. Emma and Grace shared an emotional goodbye, with Grace expressing her deep gratitude for Emma’s pivotal role in her recovery. Emma felt a deep sense of fulfillment, knowing that she had made a lasting impact on Grace’s life. As Grace left the hospital, she carried with her a renewed sense of purpose, ready to spread kindness and hope just as Emma had. Emma watched her go with a proud heart, knowing that their connection had transformed both of their lives forever.

英语试题(满分:120分)
第二部分阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Mountains are the planet’s highest and grandest structures. Let’s see some iconic mountains on the earth.
Mount Qomolangma, China and Nepal
Towering above 8,800 meters, Mount Qomolangma, also called Everest in the west, is the world’s highest peak in the Himalaya Mountains. It sits on the border between China and Nepal. Scientists believe it’s still growing by half a meter per century. It is famous for its pure beauty, absolute remoteness, freezing weather and unsettling climbing, which regularly claim lives of climbers.
Mount Fuji, Japan
Fuji-san, the tallest peak in Japan, is a sacred mountain and symbol. On a clear day, it can be seen from Tokyo, but one of the best ways to view the still-active volcano is by taking the bullet train from the capital to Osaka. Surrounding areas like Hakone and Fujigoko, where there are natural hot springs, are worth visiting during cherry-blossom season.
Mount Rainier, USA
Washington state’s highest peak, Mount Rainier, is a glaciated volcano encased in over 35 square miles of snow and ice. It is the premier North American training ground for Himalayan dreamers. It is also home to one of the best places to walk around a big mountain instead of scaling it. The stunning old-growth forest, flowering meadows, and glacier-fed rivers prove that there’s more to life than simply reaching the top.
Mount Cook, New Zealand
Home to the tallest mountain in New Zealand, Mount Cook, part of the World Heritage Site on the South Island, is a mountaineer’s dream. More than 40 per cent of the area is covered in glaciers. It was here that Sir Edmund Hillary trained for the first momentous ascent of Mount Everest.

Yul Kwon first earned his game-changer status when the Yale University- trained lawyer competed on the CBS show Survivor in 2006. He became the first Asian- American to win that show’s $1 million prize.
Kwon was born in 1975 in New York in a South Korean immigrant family. He had a strong accent as a kid, so many people assumed he was a foreigner who could not speak English properly. Kwon grew increasingly quiet to avoid being teased or beaten up. “But the more quiet you are, the more you attract bullies.” he said. Therefore, he suffered a number of social anxiety disorders in childhood.
Unfortunately, he did not see many role models from his community. He watched a lot of television as a way to learn English, and in the rare times when he did see Asian-Americans on screen, they were portrayed as negative stereotypes.
Despite a difficult childhood, Kwon went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a doctorate from Yale Law School. He worked in law, politics and business, then made what some would consider a surprising shift to television.
Kwon never imagined that television was an option for someone like him, until one day, he received an email seeking Asian-American contestants. Initially, Kwon was not interested, but then he thought back to his hunger for positive role models as a child. He says that if he had seen them, it might have helped him build courage and confidence.
Kwon surprised even himself by winning the show, a victory he attributes to fair play, where Asian-Americans, African-Americans and so on will share more equal opportunities.
He says the win also brought him closer to his father, who initially discouraged Kwon from joining Survivor. “Yul, I’m sorry. I’ve always viewed you as this kind of kid who’s trying to figure out what he wants to do, but didn’t really have it together. And then I saw you on the show and I was really proud of you.”
24. What can be inferred about Yul Kwon?
A. He was outgoing and popular as a kid.
B. He studied poorly and failed to find a job.
C. He is the best Asian-American actor in the USA.
D. He was treated badly by some bullies in childhood.
25. Why did Yul Kwon act in the show?
A. He was talented in acting and spoke English well.
B. He wanted to set a role model for kids like him.
C. He lacked money and had to make a living.
D. His father persuaded him to have a try.
26. Which of the following best describes Yul Kwon?
A. Courageous and positive. B. Negative and thoughtful.
C. Generous and demanding. D. Sensitive and hardworking.
27. What’s the main influence of Yul Kwon’s win according to the text?
A. Fewer immigrants would be bullied in school.
B. The father- son relationship would become tense.
C. Asian- American actors would gain more chances.
D. More immigrants would dive into the acting industry.

You may not think about your tears unless you’re crying, but tears nourish your eyes each time you blink. With age, you become less efficient at making tears, and may experience dry eye, which causes pain, aching, watery eyes or blurred vision.
Dry eye is common among older women due to hormone changes, individuals with Sjogren’s syndrome (干燥综合征), and people who stare at computers for long periods. But there are dozens of lesser-known factors, too.
Firstly, some people with sleep problem stop breathing multiple times per night. A CPAP machine may correct it, but if the mask doesn’t fit well, air may blow towards your eyes all night, causing dryness. “Try making a better seal with a new type of mask,” says ophthalmologist (眼科专家) Dr Elke Kreps. “If you can’t find one with an airtight seal, put some eye drops in the eyes at night. You’d better ask at the drugstores for advice on the right type.”
Secondly, being outdoors, especially on windy days, may cause your tears to evaporate (蒸发). Indoors, heat and air conditioners make air drier, and ceiling fans create a drying breeze. “Outdoors, put glasses or sunglasses on, which act as a shield,” Dr Kreps says. “Indoors, you could try a desktop humidifier.”
What’s more, if you take medicines for allergies, you may not know if your eyes ache and burn from allergen exposure. “It’s temporary,” says Dr Kreps, “when you stop taking the medicine, its drying influence goes away, and so too should the effects of the allergen.”
Finally, the operation of eyelid lifting may improve the look of ageing lids, but sometimes they don’t properly close afterwards, which may lead to dry eye. “It’s common at the start, when the scar is rigid,” Dr Kreps says. “To boost healing, massage the scar with ointment and protect eyes with artificial tears.” Ask at the drugstores which ointment is best, and it could be a smoothing ointment to fight against dry eye or an anti-scar ointment. If these steps outlined don’t help, see your ophthalmologist immediately.
32. What can we know about dry eye?
A. There is no effective cure for dry eye. B. Dry eye doesn’t have apparent symptoms.
C. Many unobvious reasons lead to dry eye. D. Children are easier to suffer dry eye than adults.
33. What does Dr Kreps possibly not agree with?
A. An airtight seal is advised for people using the CPAP machine.
B. Putting proper eye drops may reduce the dryness of eyes.
C. Being indoors and outdoors share the same way to relieve dry eye.
D. Some drugs for allergies can cause temporary dry eye.
34. After an eyelid lifting, what should patients do to deal with dry eye?
A. Rub the scar when it’s aching. B. Stay in hospital until recovery.
C. Take some anti-scar medicines. D. Apply some ointment to the scar.
35. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A health magazine. B. A security brochure.
C. A journal on technology. D. A textbook on drugs.

Emma, a dedicated nurse, always feels a deep sense of compassion for her patients. She believes that her role extends beyond merely treating their physical diseases; she wants to bring comfort and hope to those who need it most.
One day, Emma met Grace, a patient who had recently been admitted to the hospital with a deadly illness. Grace was a woman in her sixties, with kind eyes and a gentle smile, but beneath the surface, Emma could sense a profound sadness and despair.
As Emma spent time with Grace, she learned that the older woman had lost her husband years ago and had no children or close family to support her. Faced with the prospect of her mortality (死亡率), Grace had begun to lose hope and questioned the meaning of her life.
Determined to help, Emma made it her mission to bring light into Grace’s darkest days. She started by listening to Grace’s stories and offering comfort. Whenever she was free, Emma would sit by Grace’s bedside, holding her hand and reassuring her that she was not alone.
Emma began to share her life experiences with Grace as their bond grew, offering encouragement and inspiration. She read Grace’s favorite books to her, brought her small gifts to brighten her day, and even arranged for a therapy dog to visit, knowing that Grace had always loved animals. Emma not only provided Grace with medical care but also the emotional support.
Slowly but surely, Grace began to find renewed strength and purpose. Emma’s unwavering support and compassion reignited a spark within her, reminding her that life was still worth living, even in the face of adversity (逆境).
Day by day, Grace became more positive towards life, and, magically, she was recovering gradually. According to the doctors, within one month, Grace could get out of hospital and go back home.
