People have been drawn since prehistoric times to this once-simple fishing village on the Mediterranean. Today, just the name brings to mind images of café society pleasure-seekers and celebrities, which is part of the fascination that attracts six million visitors a year.
The summer months are the most active, with super yachts docked in the harbor and private chateau parties. Hotels are booked well in advance, so many just make it a day trip, taking ferries from Nice and Cannes.

Le Ponche is one of the smaller town beaches. Above it is Hôtel de la Ponch that began to attract patrons with flair (才华) such as Pablo Picaso and actress Jeanne Moreau. As a kid, I dreamed of becoming a marine biologist and I lived out this fantasy by setting up aquariums at home. Then, at 20, I was introduced to photographer David Liittschwager, who hired me to help him with a magazine assignment on marine life.
David’s assignment was to document the amazing biodiversity found in the ocean. My role was to collect specimens for him to photograph. Every night, I would cast a floating lamp. Like moths drawn to a flame, mysterious creatures would emerge from the depths in search of this light. I’d then set up aquariums to house them as they waited for David to take their shot.
Those evenings made me feel as if I were on another planet. I had never imagined such strange life-forms could exist in our oceans. But I didn’t grasp the true magic of what was in front of me until I saw the photographs David took.
The biggest surprise was his image of a baby flounder. I caught this fish by accident. Only later did I notice its two tiny eyeballs staring back at me. But David’s photograph of this flounder revealed a universe of detail that even my eager eyes had missed. His macro lens magnified its ribs (肋骨). The lightning-fast exposure froze its motion. A precisely aimed light released the rainbow hidden in its skin. And the black background removed all distractions to focus our attention on the quiet beauty at hand.
Years after that project, I was snorkeling (潜泳) on a shallow reef. Out of the darkness, another baby flounder emerged and settled on my mask. This time I knew what to look for. Before working for David, I had assumed the goal of photography was simply to reproduce an observation so that others could share the same experience. It had never occurred to me that photography could expand our visual perception and therefore teach us to look at the world from new perspectives.
24.What was the author’s role in the magazine assignment?
A.Photographing the marine life.
B.Documenting the amazing biodiversity.
C.Building an aquarium for marine research.
D.Attracting and gathering species of marine life.
25.What surprised the author about the image of a baby flounder?

A.He launched a local snorkeling project.
B.He achieved his dream by taking up photography.
C.The project motivated him to start ocean research.
D.The experience changed his view of photography.
27.What is the true magic of photography?
A.To record an observation result.
B.To help people see the world anew.
C.To share one’s specific experience.
D.To reveal visible wonders of the world.

Guilt, if left unchecked, can produce problems ranging from the physical to the mental. However, despite its reputation, guilt — once properly controlled and used — can be more positive than negative.
“We’ve only recently come to understand that guilt can be constructive,” says Will Bynum, a professor at the Duke University. “We now have a new concept of guilt as a potential source for growth. It can point us toward actions we can take to improve our lives.”
Guilt is “a self-conscious emotion characterized by a painful judgment of having done or thought something that is wrong.” It’s a feeling of could’ve, should’ve, would’ve that’s often termed a “self-aware” emotion. It’s an unpleasant emotion in our guts (直觉), a voice whispering warnings in our heads — it’s the reminder that we have a guilty feeling.
In a 2021 study, researchers interviewed Canadian adults and then showed them videos related to their interview responses and designed to cause guilt. For example, a participant would see a sentence “You donate less than the average Canadian”, before they watched a video about starving children in need of donations.
Researchers found that guilt affected the autonomic nervous system, raising electrical activity in the skin, upsetting gastric rhythms in the stomach and lowering swallowing rates.
Guilt affects us for good or for ill depending on how we experience and manage it. The trick to replacing regret with relief is to learn how to distinguish between the healthy guilt that can help you and the unhealthy kind. Healthy guilt is realistic and justified, a self-correction that promotes personal development, whereas unhealthy guilt is twisted and worsens, eating into our self-respect and preventing us from growing as much as we should.
“Thinking ahead about guilt works even better than later acknowledging it,” Baumeister says. “If you get a hint that you’re about to do wrong to someone and will feel guilty about it afterwards, just stop yourself. The sooner you see the guilt coming, the better prepared you’ll be to prevent it.”
28.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The definition of guilt. B.The impact of guilt.
C.The cause of guilt. D.The feature of guilt.
29.Why are the participants shown the underlined sentence?
A.To make them donate more money. B.To get them to feel guilty.
C.To enhance their sense of responsibility. D.To help them understand the children.
30.What does the author want to highlight in paragraph 6?
A.How to manage ill guilt. B.How promote personal development.
C.How to play tricks on guilt. D.How to make guilt affect us for good.
31.Which of the following can best interpret Baumeister’s words?
A.Experience teaches. B.Prevention is better than cure.
C.Take things as they come. D.In time of peace prepare for war.

As kids, we’ re constantly introduced to new activities in school: art, exercise, exploration and so much more. But exposure to things we may love doesn’t come quite as easily when we’ re adults. 35 Here’s how to connect with one you’ re enthusiastic about.
● Be open to new experiences
Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find the perfect hobby immediately. 36 “When you shop for a pair of shoes, you try them on before you buy them,” says Sanam Hafeez, a psychologist in New York City. “You have to see if they are a fit. This is the same mindset to have when trying something new.”
● Channel your inner child
Let’s circle back to all the new things you got to try out in primary school. If you loved art class but chose a career that isn’t visually creative, select a hobby that brings out your inner Picasso. 37 Get a used keyboard and start pressing those keys again. Did you ride your bike every day? Explore your neighborhood on wheels.
● Pick a worry-free activity
If you don’t want a hobby just to pass time, find something that makes you forget about the stresses of your day. A physical hobby, like exercise or gardening, can be a great mind-clearing activity. Losing yourself in it gives you the chance to focus on what’s in front of you and nothing else. 38
● 39
When you sense a hobby you might like, Hafeez recommends Meetup to check it out. “Meetup groups allow you to find people who have common interests and meet regularly,” she says. “This leads to new friendships and the exchange of new ideas. When you share an interest with others, you are always encouraged to continue that hobby.”
A.Did you play the piano?
B.Did you really admire Picasso?
C.Search for new interests online.
D.This improves calmness and mood.
E.Join Meetup to meet former friends.
F.Still, it’s well worth finding a beloved hobby.
G.We don’t all pick the right things from the start.
I always wanted to be like explorers Marco Polo or Ibn Battuta. They traveled the world with curiosity and a desire to share with others the marvels they discovered. They had no Internet, guidebooks, social media, blogs, vlogs, reviews, or slideshows. And with so much information available, how can one possibly be like these travel writing pioneers?
The answer may shock you as it did my travel journalism students. I plan nothing in advance except for a place to stay and let the place reveal itself to me on its own terms. And how does that work out? I have contributed to 130 international publications with articles about what I discovered.
I do not recommend this approach to everyone. But what I do suggest is that you give up your desire to have everything planned in advance, and that you stop obsessing about all the trip details and trying to make it a perfect trip. Whether you are traveling with a tour group, friends, family, or solo, leave unstructured time, so magic can happen.
Many people I know approach travel like a job, and a stressful one at that. They want to make sure they cover all the bases and don’t miss anything. But in my opinion, they copy what others have done before them and check each site off on a list.
So how do you make your trip unique? I call it slow travel. It’s not just about slowing down. Instead of running from place to place, you look around you, you take your environment in, you notice things that perhaps no one has ever noticed before. You can start talking to people. Random people you meet and talk to are a key element you cannot plan for. They may tell you about places and events that will enrich your trip. They give you local insider tips. They may even accompany you or invite you to join them for an experience. They have enriched every trip I have taken. And the more you talk to people — even if you are shy — the more you develop the self - confidence to do more of it. And then you are really in the present, having an experience that is uniquely yours.
40.Why does the author’s way of travelling shock her students?
41.What does the author think of most people’s way of travelling?
42.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
You can make your trip unique by making a detailed plan, noticing new things in the place and meeting local people to experience local life.
43.Besides slow travel, in what other aspect (s) in our life do you think we should slow down? Why? (In about 40 words)

My Plans for the Happy Weekend
Our school is accepting plans about the Happy Weekend activity, so I’d like to share my own idea. I recommend a farm field trip. After gathering at the school gate at 8 o’clock, we can set off for a farm nearby by bike to ensure environmental friendliness. Upon arrival, we will learn some basic skills. Then, we will help pick fruits and feed animals. In my opinion, nothing can match the hands-on experience we get from farm activities. We can not only strengthen our sense of responsibility but gain insights into the value of hard work.

11.connecting 12.went 13.an 14.where
故填an。
“ passengers can watch live Olympic broadcasts”是限制性定语从句,修饰先行词a mobile news center,关系词将其代入从句中作地点状语,表示“在这个移动新闻中心”,应用关系副词where引导该从句。故填where。

15.for 16.creating 17.were required
学生是被要求使用人工智能撰写论文,由Last year可知,句子描述过去的事情,因此句子用一般过去时的被动语态,主语the students of economics and management at Oxford University是复数,因此空格处是were required。故填were required。
C

18.have undergone 19.Standing 20.yourself
根据“since my childhood”可知,本句应用现在完成时, I作主语,助动词为have。故填have undergone。

B
A.The advanced techniques of lighting.
B.The strange appearance of the small fish.
C.The accurate display of its comprehensive details.
D.The unexpected effect of background processing.
26.What can we infer about the author from the text?
A.He launched a local snorkeling project.
B.He achieved his dream by taking up photography.
C.The project motivated him to start ocean research.
D.The experience changed his view of photography.
27.What is the true magic of photography?
A.To record an observation result.
B.To help people see the world anew.
C.To share one’s specific experience.
D.To reveal visible wonders of the world.
【答案】24.D 25.C 26.D 27.B

根据第二段的“My role was to collect specimens for him to photograph. Every night, I would cast a floating lamp. Like moths drawn to a flame, mysterious creatures would emerge from the depths in search of this light. I’d then set up aquariums to house them as they waited for David to take their shot.(我的职责是收集标本供他拍照。每天晚上,我都会投一盏浮灯。就像飞蛾被火焰吸引一样,神秘的生物会从深处出现,寻找这种光。然后,我为它们搭建了水族馆,让它们在等待大卫拍摄时栖息)”可知,作者的任务是吸引和收集海洋生物的物种,供David的拍照。故选D。
25.细节理解题。根据第四段的“But David’s photograph of this flounder revealed a universe of detail that even my eager eyes had missed. His macro lens magnified its ribs (肋骨). The lightning-fast exposure froze its motion. A precisely aimed light released the rainbow hidden in its skin. And the black background removed all distractions to focus our attention on the quiet beauty at hand.(但大卫的这张比目鱼照片揭示了一个细节的宇宙,即使是我热切的眼睛也错过了。他的微距镜头放大了它的肋骨。闪电般的曝光冻结了它的运动。一束精确瞄准的光线释放出隐藏在它皮肤里的彩虹。黑色背景消除了所有干扰,使我们的注意力集中在眼前的宁静美景上)”可知,大卫的照片展示了比目鱼的许多细节,这些细节是作者之前没有注意到的。由此可知,作者对小比目鱼的照片感到惊讶是因为它展示了全面的细节。故选C。
26.推理判断题。根据最后一段的“Before working for David, I had assumed the goal of photography was simply to reproduce an observation so that others could share the same experience. It had never occurred to me that photography could expand our visual perception and therefore teach us to look at the world from new perspectives.(在为大卫工作之前,我曾认为摄影的目标只是再现观察结果,以便其他人可以分享同样的经历。我从未想过摄影可以扩展我们的视觉感知,从而教会我们从新的角度看待世界)”可知,在为大卫工作之前,作者认为摄影的目标仅仅是再现观察,以便其他人分享相同的体验。但这段经历让他意识到摄影可以扩展我们的视觉感知,教我们从新的视角看待世界。由此推可知,这次经历改变了作者对摄影的看法。故选D。
27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“It had never occurred to me that photography could expand our visual perception and therefore teach us to look at the world from new perspectives.(我从未想过摄影可以扩展我们的视觉感知,从而教会我们从新的角度看待世界)”可推知,摄影的真正魔力在于帮助人们以新的视角看待世界。故选B。

【答案】28.A 29.B 30.D 31.B

根据文章第三段“Guilt is “a self-conscious emotion characterized by a painful judgment of having done or thought something that is wrong.” It’s a feeling of could’ve, should’ve, would’ve that’s often termed a “self-aware” emotion. It’s an unpleasant emotion in our guts (直觉), a voice whispering warnings in our heads — it’s the reminder that we have a guilty feeling.(内疚是“一种自觉的情绪,其特征是对自己做错或想错的事情做出痛苦的判断。”这是一种本可以、本应该、本会的感觉,通常被称为“自我意识”情绪。它是我们内心的一种不愉快的情绪,是在我们脑海中低声警告我们的声音——它提醒我们有一种负罪感)”可知,文章第三段主要讲述了什么是“内疚”,即内疚的定义。故选A。
根据文章第四段“In a 2021 study, researchers interviewed Canadian adults and then showed them videos related to their interview responses and designed to cause guilt. For example, a participant would see a sentence “You donate less than the average Canadian”, before they watched a video about starving children in need of donations.(在2021年的一项研究中,研究人员采访了加拿大成年人,然后向他们展示了与他们的采访反应相关的视频,旨在引起内疚。例如,参与者在观看一段关于饥饿儿童需要捐赠的视频之前,会看到一句话“你的捐赠比一般加拿大人少”)”可知,参与者被展示这句话是为了引出他们的内疚。故选B。
30.推理判断题。根据文章第六段“Guilt affects us for good or for ill depending on how we experience and manage it. The trick to replacing regret with relief is to learn how to distinguish between the healthy guilt that can help you and the unhealthy kind. Healthy guilt is realistic and justified, a self-correction that promotes personal development, whereas unhealthy guilt is twisted and worsens, eating into our self-respect and preventing us from growing as much as we should.(内疚对我们的影响是好是坏,取决于我们如何经历和处理它。用宽慰代替后悔的诀窍是学会如何区分有益健康的内疚和不健康的内疚。健康的内疚是现实的和合理的,是一种促进个人发展的自我纠正,而不健康的内疚是扭曲和恶化的,侵蚀我们的自尊,阻止我们尽可能地成长)”可知,在第六段作者想要强调如何让内疚更好地影响我们。故选D。
31.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段““Thinking ahead about guilt works even better than later acknowledging it,” Baumeister says. “If you get a hint that you’re about to do wrong to someone and will feel guilty about it afterwards, just stop yourself. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。
【答案】35.F 36.G 37.A 38.D 39.C
35.前文“But exposure to things we may love doesn’t come quite as easily when we’ re adults.(但是当我们成年后,接触我们可能喜欢的东西就不那么容易了)”提到成年人不容易接触到可能喜欢的新事物,后文“Here’s how to connect with one you’ re enthusiastic about.(以下是如何与你喜欢的事物建立联系的方法)”提到如何找到一个你热衷的爱好,空格处应填入一个承上启下的语句,F选项“尽管如此,找到一个心爱的爱好还是很值得的”进行转折,表示找到爱好是值得的。故选F。
36.前文“Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find the perfect hobby immediately.(如果你没有马上找到完美的爱好,不要气馁)”提到不要因为立即没有找到完美的爱好而气馁,后文““When you shop for a pair of shoes, you try them on before you buy them,” says Sanam Hafeez, a psychologist in New York City.(纽约市的心理学家Sanam Hafeez说:“当你买一双鞋的时候,你会在买之前试穿。”)”
后文“Get a used keyboard and start pressing those keys again. Did you ride your bike every day? Explore your neighborhood on wheels.(找一个用过的键盘,重新开始按那些键。你每天都骑自行车吗?在轮子上探索你的社区)”可知,这些都是童年可能尝试过的活动,因此,空格处应填入一个与童年爱好相关的活动,A选项“你弹过钢琴吗”可能是某人在童年时尝试过的活动之一。故选A。
38.前文“If you don’t want a hobby just to pass time, find something that makes you forget about the stresses of your day. A physical hobby, like exercise or gardening, can be a great mind-clearing activity. Losing yourself in it gives you the chance to focus on what’s in front of you and nothing else.(如果你不想要一个爱好来消磨时间,那就找一些能让你忘记一天压力的事情。身体上的爱好,比如锻炼或园艺,可以是一个很好的清理大脑的活动。沉浸其中会让你有机会专注于眼前的事物而不是其他)”可知,D选项“这能让人保持冷静和情绪”为前文提到的让人忘记压力的爱好的精神上的好处,前后呼应。故选D。
39.空处为小标题,根据后文“When you sense a hobby you might like, Hafeez recommends Meetup to check it out.(当你感觉自己可能喜欢某个爱好时,哈菲兹建议Meetup来试试)”可知,本段表示如何发现搜寻爱好,C选项“在网上搜索新的兴趣”能概括本段主旨。

根据第二段“The answer may shock you as it did my travel journalism students. I plan nothing in advance except for a place to stay and let the place reveal itself to me on its own terms.”(答案可能会让你震惊,就像我的旅行新闻系学生一样。 The author plans nothing in advance except for a place to stay and let the place reveal itself to him/her on its own terms.
根据第四段“But in my opinion, they copy what others have done before them and check each site off on a list.”(但在我看来,他们只是照搬前人的做法,然后在一个列表上检查旅游景点。) In the author’s opinion, they copy what others have done before them and check each site off on a list.
根据最后一段“I call it slow travel. It’s not just about slowing down. Instead of running from place to place, you look around you, you take your environment in, you notice things that perhaps no one has ever noticed before. You can start talking to people. Random people you meet and talk to are a key element you cannot plan for.”(我称之为慢旅行。 可知,“by making a detailed plan”是错误的。 You can make your trip unique by making a detailed plan, noticing new things in the place and meeting local people to experience local life. According to the passage, the writer thinks we can make our trip unique by slow travel. We can notice things that perhaps no one has ever noticed before and talking with local people. Making a detailed plan is not part of slow travel.
I think the pace of life should be slow and slow pace of life can let us not worry, making us experience the beauty and meaning of life.
