Personally Nike is my favorite one because it’s so simple. And I liked the stories behind them, which made me forget all other things. McDonald’s, Apple, Mercedes-Benz and Adidas own great logos as well, and they are among my favorites. Nike In the Greek myth, Nike is the goddess of victory and the source of inspiration for soldiers. This logo represents the wing in the famous statue of the Greek goddess. Nike’s logo was designed by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 for $35, and was registered as a trademark (商标) in1995. McDonald’s The logo was designed in 1962 by Jim Schindler to resemble the arch-shaped signs on the side of the company’s then walk-up hamburger stand. Later on, the two golden arches were combined together to form the M. The McDonald’s name was added to the logo in 1968. Apple There are different stories behind Apple’s logo. Apple’s first logo, designed in 1976 by Ron Wayne, described Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. This logo didn’t stay long and was almost immediately replaced by graphic designer Rob Janoff’s “rainbow Apple”, a rainbow-colored silhouette of an apple with a bite taken out of it. And then the rainbow-colored apple was replaced by the one-colored logo in 1998. It has not been changed so far. Mercedes-Benz The Mercedes-Benz logo, which was originally created by Gottlieb Daimler and was first used in 1909, consists of a simple description of a three-pointed star that represents its aim for motorization: on land, water and in the air. The company was founded by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Adidas The Adidas logo, which was created by the founder of the company Adi Dassler, represents mountains, pointing towards the challenges that are seen ahead and the goals that can be achieved. The logo was used for the first time in 1967. 1. What does Nike’s logo stand for? A. The goddess of victory. B. The source of inspiration for soldiers. C The statue of the Greek goddess. D. The wing of the Greek goddess. 2. We can learn that Apple’s present logo is ______. A. the religious story of Adam and Eve B. Newton’s sitting under an apple tree C. a bitten apple with a single color D. the rainbow-colored bitten apple 3. Which of the following describes the right order of the birth of the great logos? A. Nike→McDonald’ s→Apple→Mercedes-Benz B. Mercedes-Benz→McDonald’ s→Nike→Apple C. McDonald’ s→Apple→Nike→Mercedes-Benz D. Nike→Mercedes-Benz→McDonald’ s→Apple 【答案】1. D 2. C 3. 根据Nike部分中“This logo represents the wing in the famous statue of the Greek goddess. (这个标志并没有停留太久,很快就被平面设计师罗伯·雅诺夫的“彩虹苹果”所取代,这是一个彩虹色的苹果轮廓,被咬掉了一口。1998年,彩虹色的苹果被单色标志取代,并且一直沿用至今)”可知,现在的Apple标志是一个被咬过的单色苹果。故选C。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据Nike部分中“Nike’s logo was designed by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 for $35, and was registered as a trademark in1995. (耐克的标志是由卡洛琳·戴维森于1971年设计的,售价35美元,并于1995年注册为商标)”以及McDonald’s部分中“The logo was designed in 1962 by Jim Schindler to resemble the arch-shaped signs on the side of the company’s then walk-up hamburger stand. (这个标志是由吉姆·辛德勒于1962年设计的,类似于该公司当时无电梯汉堡摊贩侧面的拱形标志)”以及Apple部分中“Apple’s first logo, designed in 1976 by Ron Wayne, described Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. (1976年,罗恩·韦恩设计了苹果的第一个标志,描绘了艾萨克·牛顿爵士坐在苹果树下的情景)”以及Mercedes-Benz部分中“The Mercedes-Benz logo, which was originally created by Gottlieb Daimler and was first used in 1909 (梅赛德斯-奔驰的标志最初是由戈特利布·戴姆勒设计的,并于1909年首次使用)”以及Adidas部分中“The logo was used for the first time in 1967. (该标志于1967年首次使用)”可知,各个品牌的设计时间正确的顺序是Mercedes-Benz→McDonald’s→Nike→Apple。故选B。 B Getting good at a sport is difficult enough. Mastering one and then reinventing yourself after moving halfway across the world is another story, but Abigail Fernandes is doing just that. The 17-year-old student was a good shooter while studying in Britain. But when she moved back to Hong Kong, China, life suddenly felt a little empty without the eight hours a week of shooting training she’d become used to. “I decided to go for a sport that might help me get fitter and allow me to protect myself in the future,” she explains. With its high intensity (强度) exercise, and chances to build strength, boxing fit the bill perfectly. “Boxing teaches you patience, but best of all, a hunger to learn,” she said. “The values and lessons the sport teaches you can all be used in both your day-to-day life and education.” Now, she has been boxing for just a little more than three years and loves the challenges that this sport offers. She trains 10 hours a week with her coach Jim, who has helped her to grow as an athlete (运动员) and a person. Though she has made great progress, she thinks being able to deal with hits in the boxing ring (拳击场) is her biggest challenge. “When you get hit in the ring, it’s so easy to burst into tears and give up, but this gets you nowhere,” she says. “I want to be able to take hits and accept them. These are skills that can only be learned through countless sessions (课) of sparring (拳击). The first time I sparred I cried, so I’ m proud of myself for never turning down a sparring session,” she says. Abigail says that though her training is pretty boring, she’ll keep practicing as she looks for a competition where she can put her skills to the test. “I have a long way to go,” she says, “but I want to learn everything this sport has to offer!” 4. With its high intensity (强度) exercise, and chances to build strength, boxing fit the bill perfectly. 根据文章第二段““I decided to go for a sport that might help me get fitter and allow me to protect myself in the future,” she explains. The Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, decided to give storms boys’ and girls’ names in 2015 in the same way as they did in America. The Met Office hopes that naming big storms will mean people are more aware (意识到) of them and how dangerous they can be. Derrick Ryall, from the Met Office, said, “We have seen how naming storms elsewhere in the world raises people’s awareness of storms before they break.” In the past, the same UK storm could be given different names by different organizations. “We noticed that many organizations during the last couple of winters, when we have had bad storms, started giving names to them. Think back to the St Jude’s Day storm in 2013, and the so-called Hurricane Bawbag in Scotland in 2011. But it led to confusion (混乱),” a Met Office spokeswoman said. According to the Met Office, there is a name for each letter of the whole alphabet (字母表), except for Q, U, X, Y and Z. That is the same as the naming tradition used in America. And not all storms will be big enough to get names— only those expected to cause great damage. If there are more than 21 storms in a year, the Met Office will start again with another name beginning with “A”. However, according to Met Office spokeswoman Lindsay Mears, “It’s unlikely we would get through the whole alphabet in one season. We had 14 storms in the very bad winter of 2013/14, and if the naming system had been in operation then we wouldn’t have used the whole alphabet.” 12. Why are storms in the UK named? A. To remind people of their short stay. B. To increase public awareness of them. C. To follow what other countries did. D. To meet the needs of its people. 13. Examples are given in Paragraph 4 to show ______. A. there’re many storms to name in a year B. some storms’ names are similar to others’ C. some storms’ names are hard to understand D. organizations named storms differently 14. What do we know about the names given to storms? A. 21 letters will be used to begin the names. B. Storms will be given names whatever their sizes. C. Serious storms will be given boys’ names. D. 21 names will be given at most in a year. 15. What can be learned from Lindsay Mears? A. There are not too many big storms each year. B. Action will be taken to prevent storms. C. There are usually 14 storms in a year. D. The naming system will not change. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第三段的“The Met Office hopes that naming big storms will mean people are more aware of them and how dangerous they can be.(英国气象局希望给大风暴命名能让人们更加意识到它们的危险性。)” 根据第四段的“In the past, the same UK storm could be given different names by different organizations.(在过去,同一场英国风暴可能会被不同的组织命名。) ”可知,不同组织对风暴的命名不同。故选D。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段的“According to the Met Office, there is a name for each letter of the whole alphabet, except for Q,U,X,Y and Z.(根据英国气象局的说法,除了Q、U、X、Y和Z,整个字母表中的每个字母都有一个名字。)” 故选A。 根据最后一段的“However, according to Met Office spokeswoman Lindsay Mears, It’s unlikely we would get through the whole alphabet in one season.(然而,英国气象局发言人林赛·米尔斯表示:我们不太可能在一季内完成整个字母表。)” 故选A。 Healthy habits that stick Here are five rules that helped me develop good habits. 1. Pick habits you honestly want to have I didn’t choose habits I thought I should add because of what anyone else was doing. ___16___ It was about listening to myself. 2. Build your habit your own way When I started to build up an exercise routine(习惯) I only went when I wanted to go. For me, that was around 2 pm every day. ___17___ If I wanted to do 20 minutes on the bike, I’d do only 20 minutes and then leave. 3. Start small I knew that if I tried to take on too much, I’d find a way to make an excuse. ___18___ I started with two minutes of exercise, which were finally built up to 10, then 20 minutes. I realized that just doing something, no matter how small, meant I was more likely to do it again the next day. 4. Be kind to yourself ___19___ When I got a cold and missed several days of exercise, I didn’t beat myself up. Instead of punishing myself, I tried to love myself --- and that had a more enjoyable and lasting effect. 5. Celebrate every small victory When I began keeping a diary every morning, I put a number in the corner of each page to show how many diaries I had written. ___20___ Finally, after I filled up a notebook, I celebrated buying a new notebook. A. If I missed a day, I let it go. B. I can make exercise less boring. C. So my daily purposes were very small. D. I celebrated my pen running out of ink. E. It wasn’t about keeping up with other people. F. I should celebrate my success with my friends. G. It also meant that I would do whatever I wanted to do once I got there. E 17. G 18. C 19. A 20. I didn't choose habits I thought I should add because of what anyone else was doing 及 It was about listening to myself If I wanted to do 20 minutes on the bike, I'd do only 20 minutes and then leave I knew that if I tried to take on too much, I'd find a way to make an excuse When I got a cold and missed several days of exercise, I didn't beat myself up 故选A项。 Finally, after I filled up a notebook, I celebrated buying a new notebook I believe even the smartest people have to work hard to achieve success, because there is no such person as a born winner. That summer, when the other teams enjoyed their vacations, we met every day and ____28____ passing and kicking the football. Six months after suffering our ____29____ on the spring practice field, we won our first game and our second, and continued to _____30_____. Finally, we faced the number one team in the state. I felt that it would be a _____31_____ for us even if we lost the game. But that wasn’t what happened. My boys beat the best team in Georgia, giving me the greatest _____32_____ of my life! From the experience I learnt a lot about how the attitude of the leader can _____33_____ the members of a team. Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and _____34_____ them. Never had she been so nervous before. This competition was of vital importance to her comeback.“If I can win today,” she said to herself, “I can dance on the national stage next month.” Three months ago, her left arm was seriously injured in a car accident. After the medical treatment, she began to recover slowly. She practiced over and over again in order to regain her dancing skills. “Hi, Mary,” in rushed her friend Jessica.“How is your arm? Is it going to influence your performance?” “I guess it can be tolerated, for I am to win the match,” said Mary with a determined look. “Admirable! But I hear that a girl called Linda is really gifted and strong. She can be your real well matched competitor.Come on!” After Jessica left,Mary decided to practice her most difficult spin. “If I don’t try harder, I won’t grasp this chance,” she thought. But her arm began to hurt, making her worried. “Mary, what makes you think you have a chance tonight?” she said to herself. After the pain was gone, she continued to warm up. A slim girl hurried in and put down an equipment bag on the chair. Then, she took out her dance dress quickly and put it on skillfully. Seeing Mary, she smiled politely and said, “Hi, I’m Linda. I am the next one!” Mary nodded in reply but felt uncomfortable, “This is just my competitor. Because of her, I may lose tonight.” Her mind was wandering when Linda let out a scream, “Oh, God, I can’t find my music tape!” Linda searched her bag but in vain. “It may be missing on the way.”With these words, she then rushed out. Paragraph 1: Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Hearing her name called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Possible version one: Paragraph 1: Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. She went over and then opened the box to find Linda’s tape was just inside. At that time, she was in a dilemma, “This is my chance to defeat her.” But on a second thought, she changed her mind, “If I hide it, I will win the competition but I may lose something.” She placed it on the chair carefully, leaving a note saying “Take it easy, we are the best.” Soon, it’s her turn to come on the stage. Paragraph 2: Hearing her name called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. She kept reminding herself, “I have been practicing for so long, and I will certainly make it.” But the serious pain in her arm came again when she was performing the most difficult spin. She fell down on the stage. At that moment, Linda came back in low spirits. To her surprise and relief she saw the tape and Mary’s note. With Mary’s kindness and encouragement, Linda finished her performance calmly and skillfully. Finally, Mary lost the game but she believed she had won everything. Possible version two: Paragraph 1: Suddenly, Mary caught sight of a black box under the chair where Linda put her bag. She bent over to pick it up. “Linda’s music tape!” She cried out in surprise. “It must have rolled out of her bag while she got changed here.” At that moment, an idea flashed through her mind, which made her rooted to the spot. “Without her music tape, Linda will surely lose; without this real competitor, I will definitely win.” At the thought of this, Mary shivered slightly. She was in a dilemma, wondering what to do next. “Do I really want to win so much?”She hesitated for a second and then hurried out to give the music tape to Linda ,who was extremely anxious in the corridor. Linda was so grateful to Mary, and finished her dancing successfully. Paragraph 2: Hearing her name called, Mary walked on the stage with her heart beating faster and faster. Nervous as she was, she stepped onto the stage with a big smile. She danced skillfully to the music and completed her most difficult spin smoothly. “Good,” she thought to herself, “my injured arm is awesome today.” As the music ended, thunderous applause filled the stadium. With the final marks announced, Mary knew she achieved her goal and tears began to well up in her eyes. (Possible ending 1)As she headed back to the dressing room, Linda came up to her cheerfully and held her hand tightly, “Congratulations! You’ve done an amazing performance! You win!” Mary smiled happily, “I win.” (Possible ending 2)As she headed back to the dressing room, she thought about the music tape. “No one will know how close I really came to losing,” Mary said softly to herself. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打败:defeat/beat ②成功:make it/succeed ③完成:finish/complete 情绪类 ①心跳加速:with her heart beating faster and faster/with her heart racing ②惊讶:surprise/astonishment 【点睛】[高分句型1] If I hide it, I will win the competition but I may lose something.(由连词if引导的条件状语从句) [高分句型2] But the serious pain in her arm came again when she was performing the most difficult spin.(由连词when引导时间状语从句) 听力1-5 ACACB 6-10 CBABA 11-15 CCABA 16-20 CBCBA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 景德镇市2024-2025学年上学期期中质量检测卷 高一英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? C. The statue of the Greek goddess. Nike→Mercedes-Benz→McDonald’ s→Apple B Getting good at a sport is difficult enough. D Angus, Doris, Gabriel and Kamil are some of the 21 names that have been chosen to be given to storms in the UK in the 2016/17 season. A there’re many storms to name in a year B. some storms’ names are similar to others’ C. some storms’ names are hard to understand D. organizations named storms differently 14. Healthy habits that stick Here are five rules that helped me develop good habits. 1.
