Now, for the first time, a researcher has shot an attractive video of an octopus called Heidi rapidly changing into a quantity of colors while dreaming 英语 第4页共10页 The video, part of Octopus: Making Contact, a documentary first shown on PBS on October 2. 2019, was shot by a fish lover David Scheel. who has raised Heidi in a fish tank since she was young. The professor at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage believes that the octopus -whose skin went from pale gray to ghostly white to deep, dark violet, before changing into a greenish-brown camouflage (伪装) pattern - was dreaming of catching her next meal. “She's asleep: she sees a crab( 繁), and her color starts to change a little bit."Scheel says in the video. "Then she turns all dark. Octopuses will do that when they leave the bottom." He adds."This is a camouflage like she's just caught a crab, and now she's going to sit there and eat it, and she doesn't want anyone to notice her. If she's dreaming, that's the dream." Scheel's theory about Heidi's pleasant dream originates from the fact that animals with the ability to camouflage have never been observed changing colors so abruptly while sleeping. The hour-long documentary, which tracks Scheel's developing relationship with the octopus, also shows Heidi's other skills. She enjoys playing with small toys, watching television -particularly The Big Bang Theory - and solving puzzles. The talented octopus can also escape from small spaces, use tools, and even press a button on a remote control. An Important Discovery Shown on PBs D Loss of slow-wave sleep as you age may increase your risk of developing dementia (痴 呆), according to a new study. "We found that aging was associated with a decline in the amount of the deepest stages of 英语 第5页共10页 sleep, known as slow-wave sleep. We then found that people with greater declines in slow-wave sleep over time had a higher risk of getting dementia over the next 17 years of follow-up," said Matthew Pase, senior author of the study Slow-wave sleep is the third and fourth stages of sleep, which is important for brain health. During this stage, the body removes unwanted or harmful materials from the brain. "For the brain, this deep sleep is thought to be the most restorative." said Dr Richard Isaacson, who wasn't involved in the study The researchers wanted to know whether chronic (慢性的) reductions in slow-wave sleep over time are linked to dementia risk in humans and whether dementia-related processes in the brain may contribute to getting less of this type of sleep. They studied 346 people with an average age of 69 and completed two overnight sleep studies-one between 1995 and 1998 and the second between 1998 and 20ol-during which their sleep was monitored. The researchers also investigated whether any change in the amount of slow-wave sleep that participants got was associated with developing dementia up to 17 years after they completed the sleep studies By that time, 52 participants had been diagnosed with dementia. Each percentage decrease in slow-wave sleep per year was linked to a 27 percent increased risk of developing dementia. The rate of slow-wave sleep loss accelerated(加速) from age 60, peaked from ages 75 to 80 and slowed afterwards. "This is an important study yet again showing the impact of quality of sleep on a person's risk of cognitive decline and dementia," Isaacson said."It's important to not only pay attention to the total amount of sleep a person gets each night, but also monitor sleep quality as best as possible." 32. What can we learn from the new study? A. The older you are, the less sleep you will have B. Slow-wave sleep has been linked to the risk of dementia C. The rate of slow-wave sleep loss keeps going up with age. D. The amount of sleep has an impact on the risk of dementia 33. How did researchers get what they wanted? A. By making a comparison. B. We’d get to meet a lot of people. And we’d get to see the scenery! W: Scenery? We’d just be seeing a bunch of city bus stations. We’d have to switch buses in every city. It’ll take forever! M: Well, all right, then. I guess there is just one option left. Text 10 W: I woke up this morning feeling a little worried. I was going to take part in the 200-meter race in our school’s swimming pool. Was I ready? Was I prepared? First, the headmaster gave a speech at 8 o’clock. He encouraged us all to do well. Five teams took part in each event. At 8:30 the 100-meter freestyle began. Unfortunately, one of our swimmers had a sudden pain in her left leg during the race. She stopped swimming and shouted for help. A teacher jumped into the pool and brought her back. Luckily, she was fine. At about 9:10, it was time for my event, the 200-meter freestyle. I walked to the edge of the pool and waited for the judge to fire his gun. I heard him say, “On your marks … Get set … Go!” and we jumped in. However, a swimmer dived into the pool too early. We had to start again. I was in the lead for the first 150 meters, but another swimmer swam past me later. I won a medal for second place. I was a little disappointed. My team came in second overall, with 47 points. The team which won had a total of 53 points. I’m tired out now. It’s been a long day and I’m about to go to sleep. Bye! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
