How can we
make and keep resolutions ?
How to Make (and Keep) a New Year's Resolution
How can people make rational(合理的) and effective(有效的)) New Year's resolutions? Here are some good ways.
Specific. Your resolution should be clear. Making a concrete(具体的) goal is really important, not just saying “I want to lose weight.” You need to have a goal: How much weight do you want to lose? And how much weight do you want to lose at one time?
Measurable. If, for example, you want to stop biting(咬) your nails(指甲), take photos of your nails over time so you can find out your progress(进步) in how those nails grow back out.
Achievable. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have big goals. Failing to achieve big goals will make you sad. For example, it’s difficult to make a resolution to save enough money to retire(退休) in five years when you’re 30 years old, but saving an extra(额外) $100 a month may be.
Relevant. Is this a goal that really matters to you, and are you making it for the right reasons? For example, I lose weight because I want to be healthier, not because my classmates say I am fat and ugly.
Time-bound. Like “achievable,” the timeline toward reaching your goal should be realistic, too. That means giving yourself enough time to achieve your goals. From New York Times
