1) What do you know about the Olympic Games?
I know that the Olympic Games began in Greece about three thousand years ago. The first modern Olympics were held in the 19th century. The famous symbol of the Olympics is the flag with the five interconnected rings of different colours on it, representing the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from all nations. Every four years, the Olympic Games are hosted by a different city. Beijing successfully held the Summer Olympics in 2008 and the Winter Olympics in 2022.

2) Have you ever watched the Olympics? How did you feel?
Yes, I have watched the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on TV. The opening ceremony was unforgettable. When the Chinese team entered the stadium, I was very excited and proud. I felt admiration for all the talented athletes. Whenever I watched an event, I was much impressed by their great skills and determination. I could see the deep concentration reflected on their faces before each event and could almost feel the strong willpower it took for each athlete to remain calm and push themselves to break their personal limits.

A2. Read the website article again carefully and decide whether the following statements are facts (F) or opinions (O). If the statement is an opinion, find the evidence the author gives to support it. Page 18
Tip: Distinguishing facts from opinions
A fact is a piece of information that is known to be true and can be proved. An opinion is a statement that reflects an author’s points of view, beliefs, personal feelings and values. In order for an opinion to be accepted by the reader, the author often supports it with evidence. A critical reader needs to distinguish facts from opinions, and evaluate the evidence on which the opinions are based to decide whether they are convincing. 一个挑剔的读者需要区分事实和观点,并评估观点所依据的证据,以决定它们是否令人信服。
