It’s true that our life has become better because of the rapid development of technology. For example, farmers 1 do all the farm work by hand, now they use modern machines instead . And it seems that we can go 2 we want around the world just with a smart phone in hand. As students, you may feel that our classes become very 3 because of seewoo and the whiteboard. Technology can allow students to learn in more interesting ways .It can help teachers explain difficult ideas. It can also help students who have special needs.
However, a recent report from UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) 4 that using more technology in classes may not help as much as many people believe. The report suggests that technology should be used 5 in schools, and it also advises that smart phones should be kept away 6 classrooms.
The goal of the new report was to improve how technology is used in education. The report says that technology can be 7 , but it shouldn't be the important point. Instead, technology should be used to support learning.“Too much 8 on technology in education usually comes at a high cost,” the report says.
Over the last 20 years, technology has been 9 more and more in schools. These days, it's common for students to use computers or tablets. In many places, it's normal for students to 10 information on the Internet rather than using books.
UNESCO says technology can be very distracting (分散注意力的). When students use phones in class, it can get 11 of their learning. One study was carried out in 14 countries and it showed that even just having a smart phone nearby can be distracting. And it also says that technology changes so fast 12 it's hard to study how it really affects students. Sometimes, simple tech solutions like radio or TV can have an even bigger 13 than high-tech devices(设备).Even so,UNESCO says that less than 25% of the world's countries ban phones in schools.
“Just like anything else, technology is a double edged sword(双刃剑). We need to teach children to live 14 with 14 without technology,”said the director behind the UNESCO report.
The report suggests the best way to learn is still to work 15 with teachers at school.Working with classmates also helps students learn.UNESCO says that most schools should spend more money on things like books, classrooms, and teachers.

Celebrating Chinese New Year with Chinese friends can be great, but, because of the cultural gap(间隙), it can be really easy to give the wrong gift for Chinese New Year. Here are five things you should not give as a Chinese New Year gift.
Wallet——Loss of fortune
In traditional Chinese culture, giving a wallet as a gift means giving away all your money and you might lose all your finances (财源) and luck. However, it is no problem to give a wallet to your family member who already shares your financial accounts and money.
Handkerchiefs——Saying goodbye forever
People generally give handkerchiefs at the end of a funeral (葬礼).Handkerchiefs are a symbol of saying goodbye forever. Giving someone a gift like this insinuates you are saying goodbye forever.
Umbrellas——Break up
Umbrellas are a bad idea to give as gifts, because the Chinese word for “umbrella" sounds like the word for “breaking up”. Giving somebody an umbrella may insinuate that you feel your relationship has fallen apart.
Sharp objects——Cut off relationship
Giving anything sharp, such as a knife or scissors, is also a bad idea, as it's thought to cut off the relationship. A common Chinese saying“one cut and it is in two parts" means the end of a relationship between people.
Shoes——Evil
Shoes are a bad idea as a present for Chinese New Year because the Chinese word for “shoes” sounds exactly like a word for bad luck or “evil”. On top of that, shoes are something that you step on, and they are considered as derogatory (贬义的) gifts.
( )16.Why can't you give a wallet as a gift during the Spring Festival in China?
A. Because it is too expensive to buy a wallet.
B. Because it is a symbol of saying goodbye forever.
C. Because your family members won't let you do that.
D. Because it means that you may give away all your money and luck.

B. you are saying goodbye forever to him/her
C. you will develop a relationship with him/her
D. you don't want to share something with him/her
( )19.Why can't shoes be given as a Chinese New Year gift?
①Because shoes are hard to match with a person's feet.
②Because shoes are often seen as derogatory gifts in Chinese culture.
③Because “giving shoes" stands for giving bad luck in Chinese culture.
④Because the sound of "shoes" in Chinese is similar to the sound of "evil".

Everybody likes to celebrate a birthday. Some people live long enough to have 120 of them. The world's oldest land animal has just celebrated his 190th birthday. The animal is a Seychelles giant turtle(巨大的海龟) called Jonathan.Scientists believe he was born in 1832, but there are no official records of his birth.
Some scientists think Jonathan might actually be ten years older. He could be as old as 200. Jonathan was born in the Seychelles. He was taken to the British overseas territory (海外领地) of St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean in 1882 as a gift for the St Helena governor(州长). Jonathan was born before Britain's Queen Victoria became the queen, and before the invention of the postage stamp, Morse code and refrigeration.
Jonathan's vets(兽医) say he had a good birthday. There was a three-day party for him. Cooks made him a special birthday cake that was full of his favorite vegetables. St Helena also published(出版) a set of special stamps to celebrate his birthday. Unluckily, Jonathan couldn't see any of the celebrations because he is blind. He also has no sense of smell. However, he has an excellent sense of hearing, so he could hear Happy Birthday being sung. Jonathan’s vet, Joe Hollins, said the giant turtle still has plenty of energy. He also likes to relax in the sun. Mr Hollins said, “On warm days, he will sunbathe--his long neck and legs stretched fully out of his shell to absorb (吸收) heat and pass it on to his whole body.”

China has the oldest living tradition of poetry (诗歌) in the world, more than 3,000 years old, older than Homer's The Iliad and The Odyssey《荷马史诗》.
This is what Michael Wood says at the beginning of his documentary, Du Fu—China's Greatest Poet. The documentary lasts fifty-eight minutes .And it came out four years ago in the UK, and it got popular quickly in Western countries.
The documentary uses “the greatest" to describe Du Eu, not only in China, but also in the world, comparing Du Fu to Dante and Shakespeare(但丁和莎士比亚). It points out that there is no such person in the West as Du Fu.
The documentary not only introduces" the Chinese poet and his poems to the West, but also tries to follow Du Fu's steps by visiting China. In the documentary, Wood visits Xi'an, Chengdu, Changsha and so on. “In China, people think poets show the people's hearts and the country's history," says Wood. “For Chinese people, Du Fu was more than a poet. He lived through catastrophes (苦难) and wrote about them. He was the first to become the voice of his time."
Historian Michael Wood, one of BBC's most popular hosts, got interested in China because of a book called Poems of the Late Tang.Later, he completely entered the world of Du Fu's poetry.
