W: Thank you, Mr. Green. You mentioned the Fibonacci series just now. I don't quite understand. Could you explain? What does it mean?

W: Why is it important
M: Well, it's important, because it's common in geometry. And it's common in nature. For example, in plants. Actually, we see these numbers everywhere

M: I predict that within 10 years, the Indian Tiger will disappear forever.
W: But surely the tigers could be moved to a reserve. Aren't they protected by environmental laws?
M: Yes, they certainly are. But large areas in forest are destroyed to make way for the mining operations.
Text 9
W: Welcome back. Now, we continue our talk with Donald Keith. So, Donald, in your new book, you said you started doing farm work at seven, helping at a grocery at 10 and driving a truck at 14. Children aren't allowed to do such things any more. Do you think that's a mistake

W: Do you think though that we underestimate our children now? We seem to treat them as children for a very long time.
M: I think so. Sharing some housework should be good for the healthy growth of our children.
W: Your father emerges as a powerful human being throughout your book. Would you like to talk more about him ?
M: Daddy was my hero in many ways, and deservedly so. He was a great farmer, a successful businessman, as well as an excellent baseball coach. Whatever my daddy did, was what I wanted to do some day.
Text 10
W: Hi everyone! This is Alice ,I can't believe that I'm actually here in France. There are six students in my class, we're staying in the home of a French couple in the Jura mountains. Mr. and Mrs. Garcia are artists. And they teach an art class just for us every morning. I'm learning some wonderful painting techniques. Later in the day, we visit local villages and paint what we see. The house we are staying in is so lovely. Mrs. Garcia's family built it in the 18th century. I've never seen anything like it. It looks like something from a film. It's very large, and all the rooms have glass doors. I spend a lot of time in the garden in front of the house. It has become my favorite place, because it's so quiet. Sometimes I just sit there for hours till the sun sets. I've never had an experience like this.
21-23. ACD 24-27 DCAD 28-31 BDCB 32-35 DACB
A篇
根据 Water-coloringWorkshop部分的“Organized in cooperation with Story Center,Water-coloring Workshop is a free online channel accessible to immigrants.” 故选A。
Y(our)Legacy:A Printmaking Workshop 部分的“Led by artist Sen Mendez, participants gather at Oakland International High School and are given ten small blocks to create a visual story about themselves.”
根据第四段中的“In the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, participants are able to relax in a welcoming space, connecting through a love for art and shared experiences.”和第五段中的“In each class, activity leaders follow the principle of guiding not telling, which creates a stress-free environment that encourages creativity.”
根据第一段中的“Noticing that the door was open ... was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on a regular day.”和第二段中的“It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday.”
根据第三段中的“Elf announced to...expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a problem”可知,Elf和工作团队确认后,向在场人员宣布图书馆即将关闭,并为此前的错误和给他们带来的麻烦表示歉意,即她向图书馆的访客道歉了。
故选A。
根据第二段“One of the most famous examples of this is the tragic case of Kitty Genovese who was fatally stabbed (刺伤) in Kew Gardens, New York,in 1964.(最著名的例子之一是1964年在纽约邱园被刺伤致死的基蒂·吉诺维斯的悲剧)”中this指代第一段“While we might like to think we would rush to someone's assistance, we know from studies that often people hang back and this can have tragic consequences.(虽然我们可能会认为我们会急于寻求别人的帮助,但我们从研究中知道,人们经常退缩,这可能会带来悲惨的后果)”可知,第二段举这个例子是为了证实这项发现。故选B项。
根据第三段“After a serious incident where people have been affected by the bystander effect, they are often horrified that they didn't do anything—they can't believe they had not realized it was more serious or that they didn't think to get involved.(在严重事件发生后,人们受到了旁观者效应的影响,他们常常会为自己什么都没做而感到震惊——他们无法相信自己没有意识到事情更严重,或者他们没有想过要参与其中)“可知,受旁观者效应的影响,人们在发生重大事件后可能会感到震惊。故选D项。
根据最后一段“Ignore everyone else and how they are behaving and go with your courage—if you'd call an ambulance, do it. If you'd run for help,do it. If that's how you would have behaved when you were on your own, then that's probably the right course of action.(不要理会其他人和他们的行为,勇敢地去做——如果你想叫救护车,那就去叫。如果你想找人帮忙,那就去吧。如果这是你独自一人时的表现,那么这可能是正确的做法)"可知,当面临紧急情况时,作者建议人们马上介入。故选C项。
31. 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“The important thing to understand though is that other studies have shown that once people are aware of the bystander effect, they are less likely to be affected by it. Self-awareness is the best approach to it. When confronted with an emergency, think to yourself how you would behave if you were on your own. Ignore everyone else and how they are behaving and go with your courage—if you'd call an ambulance, do it. If you'd run for help, do it. If that's how you would have behaved when you were on your own, then that's probably the right course of action.(但重要的是要明白,其他研究表明,一旦人们意识到旁观者效应,他们就不太可能受到它的影响。自我意识是最好的方法。当你遇到紧急情况时,想想如果只有你一个人,你会怎么做。不要理会其他人和他们的行为,勇敢地去做——如果你想叫救护车,那就去叫。如果你想找人帮忙,那就去吧。如果这是你独自一人时的表现,那么这可能是正确的做法)“以及纵观全文可知,本文首先介绍了“旁观者效应”,然后分析了其原因,最后提出了解决方法,面对紧急情况,我们要马上行动,提供帮助,不做旁观者。所以B项“Don't Be A Bystander(不要做旁观者)”是本文最好的标题。故选B项。
D篇
根据第一段中的句子“This kind of complicated and back-and-forth talk is often considered to be possessed only by humans.”(这种复杂且一来一回的对话通常被认为只有人类才具备。)
第三段中提到:“While forms of communication are mostly sound-based, several species have more creative forms of viewable communication.”(虽然交流方式大多基于声音,但几种物种有更具创意的可视交流方式。)
第五段中提到:“Additionally, while the idea of turn-taking might bring to mind a picture of orderly, well-mannered animals, Kendrick stresses that this isn’t always the case. Owl chicks may try to outdo each other by making louder sounds in an effort to attract favor from their mothers during feeding.”(此外,虽然轮流的概念可能会让人联想到有序、有礼貌的动物,但肯德里克强调这并不总是如此。
最后一段中提到:“Kendrick stresses another goal of the study is to create a wider framework that can bring together all the different researches on turn-taking, allowing scientists to conduct more cross-species comparisons.”(肯德里克强调该研究的另一个目标是创建一个更广泛的框架,将所有不同种类的轮流行为研究结合在一起,使科学家能够进行更多的跨物种比较。)

4.下文“But it is not the case now. Mass media has reduced distances and made the world smaller for good. (但现在情况并非如此。大众传媒缩短了距离,使世界永远变小了。)”转折的语义说明大众媒体出现后,对世界发展有了许多好处,选项D“在大众传媒出现之前的主要缺点之一就是物理上的限制。”和下文之间是转折关系,讲的是大众媒体出现之前的弊端。故选D项。
5.上文“Many scientific pieces of research have proven that delivering lectures via an audio-visual format (视听格式) is quite effective. (许多科学研究已经证明,通过视听格式进行讲座是非常有效的。)”说明视听格式非常有效,选项G“它比音频讲座对大脑的记忆力有更积极的影响。”承接上文,说明视听格式比单纯的音频更好,引出下文“All this has only been made possible because of mass media. (所有这一切都是因为大众传媒才成为可能的。)”说明这些都是大众媒体能做到的。故选G项。

书面表达
1、应用文写作
When it comes to the qualities which determine success, some people assume that success requires fortune, willpower and so on. However, I insist patience is the most important.
As far as I can remember, I took up running to lose weight when I was young. But after a month, I started to get impatient. Thankfully, my father pushed me to be more patient. I accepted his advice, got back on track and carried it through. Gradually, I became fitter.
Looking back, I would have ended up nowhere if I had lost patience and given up halfway. It’s patience that makes a great difference in the end.
Two weeks later, David led 20 students in the team to collect food for the homeless. In the whole process, David was active and creative. His behavior and attitude also influenced other students in the team. They collected more than 2,000 cans of food in just two hours, which set a new school record. They all felt happy. After that, David led a second project, collecting 300 blankets and 1,000 pairs of shoes for the homeless, and then, a third one. The local newspaper covered the event with a full-page article, in which David’s picture was up for doing something greater.
After David’s picture appeared in the newspaper, everyone saw great changes in him. David started showing up at school every day and answered questions for the first time. He got involved in more community activities and became a confident boy. Never had the teachers who used to doubt him imagined that the program could make such a great difference to him. It dawned on them that a bird with a broken wing can fly higher than the rest once it has healed.

One Saturday in December, Annacarin Elf, the head of operations at Gothenburg City
Library, just happened to walk by her workplace. Noticing that the door was open, she entered
the library, and was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on
a regular day.
It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday. The people in the library behaved
as usual. Many were reading newspapers, some families were in the children’s section and
others were searching for books on the computer.
It seemed that Elf’s colleagues had simply forgotten to lock the door, and because this
popular library is usually open on Saturdays, visitors just assumed they could walk in. After
checking with her staff team, Elf announced to the people present that the library was about to
close. Then she expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a
problem. It later turns out that 446 locals visited the city library, borrowing a total of 246
books during the day. What’s remarkable is that people checked out their books through the
library’s electronic self-service system, and that to date, all the books have been returned!
Many Swedes have reacted positively to this uplifting demonstration of local respect for
the library, a center that can be seen as a sign of the community, and what the locals did has
strengthened their sense of belonging in their community.
Elf says, “Nothing was destroyed. It’s amazing that Gothenburgers entered an empty
library and treated it so lovingly.” The city leader has even suggested that this unusual
Saturday serve as an accidental experiment to analyse the possibility of operating a totally
automated library without staff.
24. Why did Elf feel surprised after entering the library?
A. The library staff were in it. B. People kept reading on holidays.
C. People came in without permission. D. It was in use though supposed to be closed.
25. What did Elf do that Saturday?
A. She left the library open B. She asked the staff back.
C. She apologized to the visitors. D. She read books in the library.
26. What do many Swedes think of the behavior of Gothenburg locals?
A. It displays community spirit. B. It gives the library much uplift.
C. It is a positive reaction to society. D. It strengthens trust between people.

27. What does the author want to convey through the story?
A. People tend to show care for others. B. Life is always full of the unexpected.
C. Libraries must be automated in the future. D. A library can bring out the best in people.
C
While we might like to think we would rush to someone’s assistance, we know from
studies that often people hang back and this can have tragic consequences.
One of the most famous examples of this is the tragic case of Kitty Genovese who was
fatally stabbed( 刺 伤 )in Kew Gardens, New York, in 1964. Subsequent investigations
concluded that several people saw or heard what was happening, but did nothing to
intervene(干预). This has been termed the “bystander effect” —a well-known psychological
phenomenon where individuals are less likely to offer help to someone when other people are
present. The more people there are, the less likely they are to help.
There are various factors contributing to this effect—people think that others will get
involved or intervene. Afterwards people often say they did not feel qualified or senior or
important enough to be the one to intervene. It is also partly down to “pluralistic (多元化
的)ignorance” —since everyone is not reacting to the emergency, they don’t need to either;
it’s not serious because no one else is doing anything. After a serious incident where people
have been affected by the bystander effect, they are often horrified that they didn’t do
anything—they can’t believe they had not realized it was more serious or that they didn’t
think to get involved.
The important thing to understand though is that other studies have shown that once
people are aware of the bystander effect, they are less likely to be affected by it. Self-
awareness is the best approach to it. When faced with an emergency, think to yourself how
you would behave if you were on your own. Ignore everyone else and how they are behaving
and go with your courage—if you’d call an ambulance, do it. If you’d run for help, do it. If
that’s how you would have behaved when you were on your own, then that’s probably the
right course of action.

A good conversation should proceed like a tennis match: players each take turns
responding, knowing instinctively(本能的)when to speak and when to listen. This kind of
complicated and back-and-forth talk is often considered to be possessed only by humans.
However, according to a recent study, animals also seem to know when to speak and when to
listen.
The study involved over 300 animals including birds, mammals, insects, and frogs which
practice turn-taking behavior. These animals alternate their call and response in a similar way
humans communicate. Monkeys, for example, often exchange calls to locate each other in the
wild and figure out whether they know one another.
While forms of communication are mostly sound-based, several species have more
creative forms of viewable communication. Baby monkeys let their parents know they want
to be carried with arm gestures, while birds, insects and frogs can get their messages across
through colorful displays.
Kobin Kendrick, the main co-author on the study, says that making comparisons among
animals that take turns when communicating can give us a better understanding of how this
feature evolved in humans and our ancestors. “We know very little about the evolution and
origin of the human language, so any possibility of gaining insight into it is worth going after,”
he says.
Additionally, while the idea of turn-taking might bring to mind a picture of orderly, well-
mannered animals, Kendrick stresses that this isn’t always the case. Owl chicks may try to
outdo each other by making louder sounds in an effort to attract favor from their mothers
during feeding. “This can be seen as an exception to the rule, highlighting the importance of
turn-taking in general,” says Kendrick.
One problem with the study is that researchers themselves don’t know how to
communicate with others outside their particular species of interest. Kendrick stresses another
goal of the study is to create a wider framework that can bring together all the different

researches on turn-taking, allowing scientists to conduct more cross-species comparisons.
“We all believe strongly these fields can benefit from each other, and we hope the study will
drive more crosstalk between humans and animals in the future,” says Kendrick.
32. What can we learn about the turn-taking behavior?
A. It is a unique human quality. B. It is an acquired athletic skill.
C. It occurs between familiar relations. D. It features complexity and interaction.
33. Which of the following is a form of visual intercommunication?
A. Frogs show skin colors. B. Bees release smells.
C. Eagles scream in the sky. D. Monkeys exchange calls.

Role of Mass Media in Education
In today’s advanced world, where everything is changing at lightning speed, mass media
plays an important role. 36 It isn’t limited to the four walls of a classroom anymore.
Mass media is responsible for this development to a great extent. The major roles mass media
plays in the education field are:
Universal reach
Mass media has connected people like never before. Education is something which aims
to have a universal reach. Mass media has helped to bridge that gap enormously. 37
Storage of information
Mass media allows storing information which can be accessed from anywhere at any time.
It is literally accessible, at our fingertips, which saves a lot of time and energy. 38
No physical restrictions
39 But it is not the case now. Mass media has reduced distances and made the
world smaller for good. For instance, it is not necessary to be present at a place physically to
gain knowledge now.

Fruitful results
Another huge advantage of current technological innovations in mass media is the
increased memory capability of students. Many scientific pieces of research have proven that
delivering lectures via an audio-visual format (视听格式) is quite effective. 40 All this
has only been made possible because of mass media.
A.This results in the reduction of false information.
B.That being said, education is also advancing day by day.
C.Therefore, it serves as a rather useful resource in the field of education.
D.One of the major disadvantages before mass media was a physical restriction.
E.Mass media consists of the tools used for communicating information and ideas.
F.In other words, it is now within everyone’s reach and making the world a better place.
G.It has a more positive impact on the memory power of the brain than an audio lecture.

Some people are just doomed(注定 ) to be failures. That's the way some adults look at
troubled kids. A bird with a broken wing will never fly as high. David was made to feel this
way almost every day in school.
David was the most famous troublemaker in high school. He wasn't confident and didn't
answer questions. From time to time he skipped classes and got into lots of fights. Teachers
didn't want to have him again the following year. However, things gradually changed during a
weekend leadership meeting. All the students at school had been invited to sign up for ACE
training, a program designed to have students become more involved in their communities.
At the start of the meeting David was literally standing outside the circle of students,
against the back wall, with that “go ahead, impress me” look on his face. He didn't readily
join the discussion groups. But slowly the interactive games drew him in the discussion.
David started to join them and he really had great ideas. The other students in David's group
welcomed his comments. All of a sudden David felt like a part of the group.
The next day David was very active in all the sessions. By the end of the meeting, he had
joined the Homeless Project team. He knew something about poverty, hunger and
hopelessness. The other students on the team were impressed with his passionate concern and
ideas. They elected David co-chairman of the team.
The very first community service project organized by the Homeless Project team was to
collect food for the homeless in the charge of David. But a group of teachers doubted whether
this crucial beginning should be in the hands of David. The principal reminded them that the
purpose of the ACE program was to uncover any positive passion that a student had and
reinforce(加强) its practice until true change can take place.
