How would you translate Chairman Mao Zedong's expression:“Bu Ai Hong Zhuang Ai Wu Zhuang"?“English or American translators might use the words:They love uniforms not gay dresses,”said Xu Yuanchong,a well-known Chinese translator and thefirst Asian winner of the world's highest prize for translation, the Aurora Borealis Prize.Xu thought that this translation was correct but not beautiful at all.He cleverly used just two words—“face”and “powder”—to translate it as “To face the powder and not to powder the face”,which became one of Xu's most representative translations.
Xu thought that the equivalence(相同)of idea, sound and form were the three basic elements found in good translation. However, his method—recreation instead of literal(字面的) —is controversial. Some people said that it was different from the original text.“I think not.”Xu replied firmly.“Westen languages are comparable. It's easy to find the equivalent ofEnglish in other languages. But it's different in Chinese. There are only 50%of equivalents between Chinese and English. If you cannot find an equivalent, then you must find the best words to franslate. To find the best word is innovation. It's recreation,"he explained.
Xu Yuanchong likes to communicate with the younger generation.about academic work, hoping that working together to spread Chinese culture will contribute to making the world a better place.
Xu Yuanchong also authored a book, which in Chinese is called “Meng Yu Zhen”,which
literally means“dream and reality".But Xu created a different English name for it.He used“A
dream translated into reality”.“This summarizes my entire life.My whole life is about translating

To solve a big environmental problem, chemists have been thinking small.Really small:a new mini robot with the purpose of helping clean up tiny plastic that pollutes water across the world.
The new microrobots, each of which is no bigger than the tip of a pencil, are magnetic(有磁 性的)and shaped like four-pointed stars. When the sunlight shines on them, they can swim in a direction;when the sunlight disappears, they stop moving.Finding a piece of plastic, they hold onto it,produce chemical reactions and start to break it down.
The project is led by chemist Martin Pumera,a researcher who also studies ways to build microrobots at the Czech University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague.About ten years ago, he noticed the microplastic was everywhere, fromthe bottom of the ocean to the ice on the top of mountains. It even turned up in drinking water, both bottled and tap water.Just think about how much plastic you meet every day.It doesn't easily degrade(降解),which is a big problem. Therefore,Pumera chose to focus on the problem of water pollution caused by microplastic.
The researchers tested the microrobots on four types of plastic in the lab. After a week, all four begandegrading, losing around 3 percent of their weight, which showed the microrobots were breaking the plastic down. The robots also tumed theplastic's smooth surface into the rough one. Finally, the scientists showed that magnets could attract the microrobots at the end of the test—alongwith theplastic waste
In fact,Pumera says they still have a long way to go.These microrobots are unlikely to succeed in degrading all types ofplastic. They'll also need a lot of testingto show that they're safe in open waterways, such as at sea.But he thinks that these challenges can be overcome.Someday, the microrobots will play a big role in a worldwide cleanup effort.
28.About the new microrobot,we can know that
A.it is in the shape of a ball B.it is as small as a pencil
C.it is driven by sunlight D.it uses physical reactions 高二英语试题卷第4页(共8页)
29.What turnedout to be Pumera's inspiration to design the microrobot?
A.The microplastic pollution. B.The ice on the mountains.
C.The need for drinking water. D.The development ofocean resources. 30.In what way does a microrobot deal with the plastic?
A.Making its surface smooth. B.Breaking it down to some degree.
C.Taking in it completely. D.Sorting it into four types. 31.When it comes to their future research,Pumera's very
A.doubtful. B.confident. C.regretful. D.uncertain.

You've likely encountered the humblebrag before—boasting( 吹 嘘 )disguised( 伪 装 )as a complaint,such as:T'm having such a stressful day.I got two job offers and I don't know whatto do.”
This is a typical example of humblebragging,a term coined by comedic writer Harris Wittels referring to“a specific type of boast that allows the offender to broadcast their achievements without the necessary shame and guilt that should normally accompany such claims.”In simpler terms,it's a way to disguise a boast with some humility(谦虚).Humblebragging comes in two different forms. The first is humility-based,an example being,“I can't believe I got the highest grade in my class”The second type comes mixed with a bit of complaint, for example,“I can't believe that shopkeeper asked me for ID.I'm 25!”
People don't like it when others humblebrag because they find they are lacking in sincerity. Sincerity is a critical dimension of social evaluation, which is viewed as fundamental to people's identity. In fact, people prize sincerity even above competence and warmth in others, according to Dr Sezer.
If humblebragging doesn't work, and no one likes it,why do we still do it?We all want to highlight our positive qualities without seeming proud.By speaking in a complaint or an expression of humility,we hope we'll somehow land on the “sweet spot”ofself-presentation: promoting ourselves while also conveying likabllity. In addition, research suggests that people may experience positive emotions while humblebragging.
Considering that we're all likely to feel the urge to humblebrag,at least to some extent, the proper response when we hear a friend doing it may be to simply let it go—because ultimately
we're going to do it ourselves, and who really wants to be called out on it? 32.Which of the following remarks is an example of humblebragging? A.How I hate hearing my voice on TV!
B.I'm thrilled to be awarded the first prize.
C.I'm the only person to get promoted in the film. D.How I dislike doing the same thing every day!
33.Which can best describe people's impression of humblebraggers?
A,Honest. B.Humble. C.Insincere. D.Incapable.
34.Why dopeople humblebrag?
A.To lift up their spirits, B.To express their complaints.
C.To improve their moral qualities. D.To show off without bringing annoyance 35.What are people advised todo when hearing humblebragging from a friend?
A.Follow it up. B.Leave it alone
C.Turn against it. D.Get to the root of it

第二节作答示例:
At recess the next day, I saw Del sitting alone watching the kickball game. I hated the nickname“Germy,” but seeing him isolated was also not what I wanted. Guilt pushed me to him. “ What do you want, Germy?” Del asked, his voice sounding more hurt than angry. I sat next to him and gradually uttered the whole thing about how my hasty assumption turned into such a terrible rumor. “I’ m sorry. I wish I had never said that,” I apologized, daring not to look into his eyes. Annoyance and surprise flickered across his face. But seconds later, he lowered his head and said quietly, “It's okay. I guess I wasn't very nice to you, either.” His words soothed me, but I could feel he was still sad.
Now that Del had forgiven me, I decided to do more before the recess was over. I walked towards the kickball players and called for their attention. Everyone stopped in surprise. “Del didn’ t beat up anyone,” I stated, explaining what actually happened. Whispers of astonishment spread and finally one player shouted, “Alright, Del, do you want to join my team?” A smile broke through Del's gloomy face, “Yes, and I want Jamie on it, too!” He glanced at me shyly, andI could tell his use of my real name was his way of making an apology. Soon the playground was filled with laughter and talks. But this time they made me realize something —— words have the power to hurt and heal.

It's getting pretty wet out there, so take an umbrella and stay dry!I'm here today with Matt Miller, who has completed his 29,000-mile journey in just six weeks, with a total of 180 hours in flight. Beginning in California, he made twenty-five stops in fourteen different countries including England, Italy, Greece, Egypt, and Thailand. His final trip was a sixteen-hour flight from Hawaii back to California, just half an hour less than his longest flight from Samoa to Hawaii. Born in South Dakota, Mat is a freshman at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and has said that as a child he was scared of flying. All of that changed when he turned seventeen. After that, he only spent a few years planning everything out before beginning his journey around the world. Matt is here with us today for an interview. Welcome Matt! First, why don't you tell all our listeners about the craziest thing you saw during your adventure?
