Aren’t you just tired of being told what to do with your time? Now you have a list to end all lists! Take a look at the following two examples from the list of “101 things not to do”. 3 Swim with Dolphins? Swimming with dolphins is one of the world’s most profitable tourist activities. However, not every dolphin will welcome having their busy, tiring day interrupted by tourists screaming and pushing around them in the water. Worse yet, when dolphins get too near to the boats loaded with tourists, they could get caught up in ropes and killed by propellers (螺旋桨). Here’s a little secret. Dolphins look like smiling at you, but actually they’re just opening their mouths. Go to See the Mona Lisa? There must be something about the mysterious smile. The 6 million people who visit the lady in the Louvre every year can’t all be wrong, after all. But they can be quite annoying, standing in front of you, holding their cameras to prevent you from seeing anything. In fact, it is hard for you to see the painting clearly because you have to stay away from it for security reasons. After queuing for hours, many tourists can remain in front of the painting only for 15 seconds at most. If the mysterious lady in the picture knew her fate, she wouldn’t just be smiling. She’d be laughing. So, still long to see the Mona Lisa? If you want to find out more about the list, read 101 Things NOT to Do Before You Die. Visit www.not2dobeforedie.co.uk and buy the book at a 20% discount. 21. What can we know about swimming with dolphins? A. It can result in danger to dolphins. B. It will make tourists busy and tired. C. It gives fun to both tourists and dolphins. D. It’s the world’s most popular tourist activity. 22. What does the author think about going to see the Mona Lisa? A. Sufficient B. Ridiculous C. Unsatisfied D. Worthwhile 23. Why is the passage written? A. To introduce a website. B. To publicize a book. C. To comment on popular lists. D. To recommend tourist activities. B On a cold morning in May, I received a fascinating email from a high school friend. inviting me to a 10-day all-female surfing adventure in Portugal. The offer was irresistible, and I instantly knew my answer was yes. The trip seemed simple enough. Ten women, ranging from 30 to 45 years old, all strangers, will gather on the Portuguese coast to embrace the challenge of surfing the Atlantic waves. As a travel enthusiast, I quickly sought permission from my boss for this once-in-a- lifetime journey. Through my 33 years, I’ve observed a common adult tendency: we often limit ourselves to 4 refining skills we already possess. There’s a certain pride in improving our expertise, becoming increasingly knowledgeable in our chosen fields, yet unintentionally, this focus often leaves other skills undeveloped and leads to neglecting other areas of potential growth. Two days later, I arrived in Ericeira, a charming surf town, where I met my surfing group. Despite our different personalities and backgrounds, we were all united in a persistent desire to challenge ourselves, learn, tackle and grow. The shores at Ericeira, where the beginners learn to surf, are shallow and covered with slippery rocks. They make for softer waves but are difficult to navigate (驾驭). Guided by our amazing coaches, together, we faced the waves. Sometimes, it poured with rain, and the waves crashed around us, but we were still out there. And with every slip and fall, words of encouragement filled the air. Honestly, I probably spent most of my days frozen to the bone, but that didn’t matter because a new level of genuine joy and personal achievement had been unlocked. Learning a new skill taught me the humbleness that can come from doing badly at something new, and the pride that develops when you finally manage to grasp something you’ve been working on. While surfing might not be my calling, trying it out inspired me to take more risks in life, to step outside of my comfort zone and to never stop believing in myself. You never know what you’re capable of if you don’t go out there and try. 24. Why did the writer decide to go on a surfing trip to Portugal? A. To get better at skills they already had. B. To complete some work tasks in Portugal. C. To face a new challenge and pick up a new skill. D. To reconnect with an old friend from high school. 25. How does the writer feel about adults concentrating on just one area of expertise? A. It limits one’s skills. B. It’s crucial for one’s career. C. It encourages creativity. D. It balances his life. 26. Which of the following words best describe the writer’s experience with surfing? A. Calming but unforeseeable. B. Demanding and annoying C. Challenging but fulfilling. D. Dull and uneventful. 27. What insight did the writer get from her surfing adventure? A. The significance of specializing in one particular area. B. The advantages of traveling with people you don’t know. C. The necessity of getting formal training for all new abilities. D. The importance of stretching your boundaries and experimenting. C A new center at the Stanford School of Engineering will fund artificial intelligence in the service of space science, exploration, and business. The Center for AEroSpace Autonomy 5 Research, or CAESAR, aims to make these activities more efficient, safe, and sustainable. Researchers at the center say that AI could optimize navigation for spacecraft, skillfully land space vehicles on planets or asteroids (小行星), allow unmanned rovers to make decisions about where to go, what to avoid, and what to analyze, keep tabs on all the space junk (some 60,000 pieces, at last count) spinning around Earth, and much more. To enable such ambitions, Marco Pavone, CAESAR co-founder and associate professor of aeronautics and astronautics, announced that one of the center’s main projects will be to develop a foundation model for space pursuits. A foundation model is a kind of general-purpose AI that’s trained on huge amounts of data and can handle a variety of tasks, like generating text, images, and even videos. “This space foundation model,” Pavone said, “will be designed to synthesize (合成) information across a range of modalities, including vision, text, remote sensing (such as multispectral imagery and radar), and space-object catalogs, and will be capable of addressing a variety of space-related tasks, including situational awareness, positioning, and navigation.” Simone D’Amico, CAESAR co-founder and associate professor of aeronautics and astronautics, made it clear that he, Pavone, and their colleagues plan to proceed cautiously, with eyes wide open to the potential pitfalls (隐患) of pursuing AI for spacecraft and robots. He said that in some cases, AI components are not the most effective choice for space systems. “We founded CAESAR with the objective to tackle unsolved problems in spaceborne autonomy through the wise incorporation (合并) of artificial intelligence components,” D’Amico said. Though the space foundation model will be a game changer, D’Amico also noted the restrictions space imposes on the startup technology. For example, space is a difficult, remote environment that’s not readily available for AI training, and powerful microprocessors needed for AI are still not flexible to space radiation. 28. What are CAESAR intended for? A. Clearing up the space junk. B. Doing space activities by AI. C. Navigating planets and asteroids. D. Raising space-related fund. 29. What is one of CAESAR’s main pursuits according to the text? A. To develop a foundation model to help deal with different missions. B. To adopt the off-the-beaten-track incorporation of AI sets. C. To provide once-and-for-all solutions to space problems. D. To address potential pitfalls of AI used in space exploration. 30. What is D’Amico’s attitude towards CAESAR? A. Cautious. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. Disapproving. 31. What is a suitable title for the text? A. CAESAR’s Exploration in Asteroids B. CAESAR’s Success in Engineering C. CAESAR’s Restrictions on Robots 6 D. CAESAR’s Attempt with Space- related AI D Classics of art are supposed to carry some mysterious appeal that continues to exist across the ages. But as Rochelle Gurstein, a historian, writes in a new book, the “timeless classic” is anything but. “What I believed was written in stone was actually written in water,” she argues. Classics come and go. The rise and fall of classics is not just a matter of changing tastes; art itself has changed. Artists used to focus on ideal forms of beauty. Genius was the “child of imitation”. Artists learned by studying and imitating classical masterpieces, often Roman copies of Greek sculptures. But such classical ideals were challenged by “discoveries”. Lord Elgin tried to fix up the magnificent friezes (雕带) that once beautified the Parthenon, but restorers refused. When the marbles went on display in 1807, British visitors did not see the perfect Roman sculptures they were used to. Timeless “ideals” paled in comparison with the timeworn marbles, and artists began to feel “cut off” from the classical tradition, writes Ms Gurstein. The writing of art history has also changed tastes. In the 16th century Giorgio Vasari, an Italian painter, advanced an influential story of artistic progress that reached its peak in the realism of Raphael and Michelangelo. But in the 19th century John Ruskin, a critic, called attention to the pre-Raphaelite movement when he argued that the real “Old Masters” were actually Middle Ages Christian painters, Walter Pater, an English critic, later upgraded the individual interpretation of art as the most important criterion of judgment, planting the seeds for the aesthetic (审美) relativism that still dominates. Ms Gurstein’s narrative shows that the “status of a classic” depends on critics, and is proof to the power of passionate writers to change the way people look at art. Taste evolves, and it should. But culture lives on only as long as people continue to argue over what counts as a classic today. The true enemy of the classic is not relativism or wokeness. It is silence. 32. What does the underlined words “written in water” mean? A. The way of writing a classic is special. B. The appreciation of classics is constant. C. The art classics are hard to understand. D. The “timeless classic” changes over time. 33. Why does the author mention the “marbles” on display in paragraph 3? A. To highlight Lord Elgin's restoration efforts B. To show the popularity of Roman sculptures C. To argue for the preservation of ancient art. D. To demonstrate the change of classical tradition. 34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The rise of modern art. B. The development of artistic preferences. C. The techniques of old masters. D. The transformation of creative methods. 7 35. What has a significant influence on aesthetic relativism? A. Realistic style. B. Ancient Christian art. C. Art critics’ views. D. Historical narratives. 第二节 (共 5 小题; 每小题 2.5 分, 满分 12.5 分) 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多 余选项。 Life is filled with numerous victories and downfalls; what matters is how you tackle each situation. In 1994 he got Parkinson’s Disease (帕金森氏病), which had shocked the whole family as he was only in his forties. A husband and father to three, Pa had had a successful career running an advertising agency and had always been extremely creative. Outside of work, he’d spent 15 years fronting the cover band, Musical Chairs, which performed at the pub in Sydney’s Double Bay each week and, when I became a mother, he developed a very close bond with my daughter. Even when his Parkinson’s advanced, my father decided he wanted to paint. “Why don’t you try classes?”my mum Louisa suggested to him. He agreed. In art lessons, the class practised 10 painting still life objects, like pears, but my father had other ideas for his inspiration. He began producing abstract pieces, inspired by his favourite artist, Jackson Pollock, a leading abstract expressionist. “Why abstract?” I asked him. “Because,” he replied,“it helps us to see the world around us in a different way. You can look at these paintings and ask ‘what if?’” Soon, I realized he was right. When I observed my father’s work, I could interpret each of them in many ways. Once he got started, he showed no signs of slowing down. The little house was quickly filled with more and more works. But in 2019, Pa developed cancer and was given just three months to live. The thought of losing him was too much for any of my family to accept, but we soon received great news that a new form of treatment can help him greatly. B. The Center for AEroSpace Autonomy 4 Research, or CAESAR, aims to make these activities more efficient, safe, and sustainable. CAESAR’s Restrictions on Robots 5 D. Genius was the “child of imitation”.Artists learned by studying and imitating classical masterpieces, often Roman copies of Greek sculptures. 6 {#{QQABLYaUggigQhAAAQ}35. What has a significant influence on aesthetic relativism? A. Realistic style. B. Ancient Christian art. C. Art critics’ views. D. He agreed. In art lessons, the class practised 9 painting still life objects, like pears, but my father had other ideas for his inspiration. Since he continued speaking about wanting to share his paintings with the world, I knew what had to be done. 注意: 1.续写词数应为 150 左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I told him I would help organize an exhibition.___________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ A month later, the big day finally came. 56. influential 57. written 58. supposedly 59. that/which 60. The speech is scheduled at 5:00 p. m. this Friday in the stadium. The reason why we choose this theme is, initially, students’ insufficient awareness of exercise in daily life. Burdened with loads of schoolwork, seldom do students spare time for doing exercise. Additionally, taking into account the national appealing to cultivate all-round students, practicing exercise enables us to be qualified graduates. Your accepting the invitation would be highly appreciated, and you, a sport enthusiast, can undoubtedly juice the speech up and make it reach a wider audience. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 读后续写 I told him I would help organize an exhibition. Soon, I contacted the advertising agency he once worked for, explaining my father’s current situation and his long- desired dream. The people in charge agreed with pleasure, adding that my father’s creativity was deeply appreciated. Everything went smoothly, and a great idea hit upon me. Why not invite Musical Chairs? Their presence would surely bring a great comfort and a sense of belonging. After receiving a big Yes from the band, we began to select works to be exhibited and then transported them to our city museum. A month later, the big day finally came. Accompanied by us, Dad walked into the museum. Baba smiled like a child at the crowd, with his wrinkled face lighting up. Viewers spoke highly of Dad’s paintings and shared with him how they were inspired to see the world in a different way. Dad cast a glance at me with pride and gratitude. I felt honored to be his daughter, knowing that his creativity and passion would inspire me and stay with me for the rest of my life. 听力材料 Text 1 W: David, you look worried. What’s wrong? M: Mrs. Johnson asked me to look after her cat for a few days. I took him home yesterday. And now it’s gone. W: That’s terrible! But don’t worry. I’m sure we’ll find it. Let’s go! Text 2 M: It’s the last day before the test. I know you are also busy studying, but I really need your help. I can’t fail the exam. W: Take it easy, Harry. Let me help you. Text 3 M: Could I possibly leave the office early today? W: I’m afraid not. We’re going to have a meeting at 4:30. And it will last about one hour. M: Oh, well, the reason is that I have an appointment with the dentist. Text 4 M: Mary! I heard you were moving. What happened? Are you OK? W: Oh, yeah. Thank you for asking, Steve. But nothing bad happened. I actually got a great job managing a firm. I will start next month ... but it’s in South America. Text 5 M: I heard there’s a coffee bar near the canteen. What about going there for a coffee? W: I don’t think we high school students should drink coffee. M: Then why is there a coffee bar there? Is it for teachers? W: It’s also for students. I just don’t think teenagers should drink coffee. Text 6 M: Hi, Helen. What are you doing? W: We are having a neighborhood clean-up. M: Really? Sounds interesting. What does it involve? W: Well, we are picking up the trash. Look! The kids are putting up a poster on that wall. After that, we are going to plant some trees along the sides of the trail. M: That’s great. Can I join you? W: Sure. You can help Tina first. She is emptying that rubbish can over there. Text 7 M: Hi, Professor Mason. Do you have a minute? W: Yes, of course, Eric. And I think there is something I want to talk to you about, too. M: You mean, my late essay? W: Yeah, that’s it. I haven’t seen it on my desk. M: I thought I’d lost it. W: Oh, no. I’m sorry to hear that. M: Actually, it was my computer. I had my computer repaired yesterday, and all files were missing. But fortunately, I sent it to you by email the day before yesterday. W: Oh, I haven’t checked my emails yet. Well, I’m glad it’s there. I’ll read it this weekend. Text 8 M: Linda, how is life in Kariba Town? W: It’s pretty good, Jack! The town is growing fast. M: I suppose people prefer to go there because of the interesting wildlife. They can see different animals living there. And I heard that animal attacks are not common. W: Yes, that’s true. It has beautiful scenery and offers many jobs, mostly in tourism. M: So, have you been to Lake Kariba? W: Yes, so many fishes in it, but fishing is not allowed there. However, it’s a great place to go boating. M: Is there anything else special? W: As you know, most people in Kariba don’t walk around after getting home from work. In Kariba, daytime is for people, and at night, animals do anything they want. Text 9 W: So, Mike, what do you think of the cafeteria food? M: It’s OK, I guess. It’s homemade food. Why do you ask? Don’t you like the food there? W: Well, to tell you the truth, I think it’s awful. M: But it’s cheap — only five dollars for dinner! W: I know. I guess that’s why it’s popular. But I really can’t eat the food. And they close before I get hungry in the evening. M: Aren’t you hungry by seven o’clock? W: No. I usually eat dinner around eight or nine o’clock. M: Hmm. So what are you going to eat? W: Well, there are numerous ... really, a lot of good restaurants in our neighborhood. And most of them are open pretty late. I mean, you can order dinner at midnight at Pink Rose. And they provide a much better environment. M: Oh, right! Pink Rose also has delicious stuff to eat! Text 10 W: Hi, everybody. Do you know Bollywood? Today I’d like to tell you about it. Bollywood, which is the name of the film industry in Mumbai, India, makes almost 1,000 films a year. Since making its first film in 1913, Bollywood has made over 29,000 films. This is a much higher number than Hollywood in the USA and means it is the biggest film industry in the world. Most Indians like watching films better than other free-time activities like traveling or doing sports. Ten million of them go to the cinema every day. Bollywood films tell love stories, and singing and dancing are an important part of every film. Indian films are also enjoyed outside India. Indian actors make more films each year than American actors in Hollywood, but they are not paid as much. This is why most Bollywood films only cost about $2 million to make. Hollywood film is never made for under $5 million. Most Bollywood actors are young. They work hard but only for a few years. Amitabh Bachchan, who some people say is India’s greatest actor, is different. He has been working in the film industry for 40 years, and has been the star of more than 140 films. OK, that’s all for today. Thank you for your listening. 假定你是李华,你的新西兰笔友 Leta 发邮件说她打算来中国旅游,想让你为她推荐 一个最值得参观的景点。请给她回复邮件,内容包括: 1. 简要介绍该景点;2. 说明推荐的理由。 Dear Leta, I’m thrilled to hear about your plan to visit China!
