Boyle’s work laid the foundation for the modern understanding of gas behavior and promoted the development of scientific experimental methods. William Lawrence Bragg William Lawrence Bragg was a British physicist born in Australia who made significant contributions to X-ray crystallography (晶体学). Together with his father William Henry Bragg, he developed the famous Bragg’s law. This discovery revolutionized the field of crystallography and paved the way for determining the atomic and molecular structures of various substances, including DNA and proteins. 21. Still, I was never bored. The fields, hills, and woodlands around my home were the perfect playgrounds whose adventures were only limited by my imagination. I can remember once hiking to a nearby lake and slowly walking around it. At the backside of it I was amazed to find an old, one lane, dirt road that I had never seen before. I immediately set out to travel it. It was full of muddy tire tracks and deep woods bordered it on both sides, but exploring it still seemed like a fine adventure. I walked on and on for what seemed like hours. I am sure my guardian angel was whispering in my ear to turn around and head back home but I was stubborn and even a bit stupid, so I walked on. The dirt road gave way to a gravel one and then a paved one, yet there was still neither a car nor a house in sight. My legs were getting tired. I noticed that the sun was starting to go down and I grew scared. I didn’t want to end up trapped on this road in the dark of night, but I was sure it would be dark before I could make my way back to the lake again. I continued to walk on with the something growing inside of me. My heart was pounding and my legs were aching. I was almost in tears when I turned one last curve and saw something in the distance. It was a house that I recognized. My heart leapt up! I jumped up and down and laughed out loud. I knew the way home! It was still over a mile away but my legs felt like feathers and I hurried back to my house. I walked in with a big smile on my face just in time for dinner. Then I ended my adventure with a good night’s sleep. I often thought of that experience recently. Actually, in our life, all roads, no matter how they twist and turn, can lead us home again. They can lead us to our homes here on Earth. They can lead us to our homes in our hearts. May you always walk your path with love. May you always help your fellow travelers along the way. And may your roads always lead you Home again. 24. Why did the author hardly feel bored when he was young? A. He could watch TV all day. B. He could have fun in nature. C. He had many friends to play with. D. He used to explore the old dirt road. 25. How did the author feel when he was exploring the dirt road? A. He was contradictory in mind. B. He was unconscious of danger. C. He was worried to be trapped in the woods. D. He was afraid of being scolded by his parents. 26. What does the underlined word “something” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to? A Doubt. B. Hope. C. Fear. D. Courage. 27. What may be the best title for the passage? A. Every Effort Is Worthwhile B. Be Brave to Explore C. Be Determined in Your Life D. All Roads Lead Home C Bad news for people who frequently use the emoji(表情符号): It is no longer cool. In recent weeks, two generations have been debating in videos and comments on Tik Tok over the symbols of millennial(千禧一代) culture that are now considered uncool by Generation z (born after 1996). The symbols include the popular laughing crying emoji that some millennials (born in the 1980s), including me, use hundreds of times a day, or more. “Face with Tears of Joy”, the official name for the laughing crying emoji, is currently the most-used emoji on Emojitracker, a website that shows real-time emoji use on Twitter. “What’s wrong with the laughing crying emoji?” one user asked in a Tik Tok comment. Another responded, “It’s so off.” In a different video, a woman says she’s cut back on using it after learning kids don’t. “I use everything but the laughing crying emoji,” 21-year-old Walid Mohammed told CNN Business. “I stopped using it recently because I saw older people using it, like my mom, my older sisters and just older people in general.” For many Generation Zers the emoji has become a popular replacement for conveying laughter. It’s the visual version of the slang phrase “I’m dead” or “I’m dying”, which means something is very funny. Other acceptable choices—the emoji officially called “Loudly Crying Face”, or just writing “lol” (laughing out loud) or “lmao”. “Tears of Joy was a victim of its own success,” said Gretchen McCulloch, the author of “Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language”. “If you express digital laughter for years and years in the same way, it starts to feel insincere... It gets worn out through continued use,” she said. That’s why Generation Zers may be looking to fresh and novel ways to signal they’re laughing in different ways. “Older generations tend to use emojis literally while younger people get more creative,” said Jeremy Burge, the chief emoji officer of Emojipedia, an emoji dictionary website. Generation Zers told CNN Business they like to assign their own meanings to emoji, which then spreads to others, often through social media. 28. What is the author’s attitude to the use of the laughing crying emoji? A. Curious. B. Favourable. C. Uncaring. D. Impatient. 29. What message does the author try to deliver by giving some examples of Generation Zers? A. They are fond of using emojis. B. They use emojis very scientifically. C. The Loudly Crying Face emoji is very popular. D. The laughing crying emoji is losing its charm. 30. What can we infer about 21-year old Walid Mohammed? A. He wants to set himself apart from older people. B. He is seeking to be perfect. C. He is unwilling to accept something new. D. He sticks to his own idea. 31. What’s the problem with “Tears of Joy” according to Gretchen McCulloch? A. It isn’t funny enough. B. It isn’t creative enough. C. It has been used too much. D. It hasn’t received much attention. D A team of engineers has invented a new type of tiny, self-driven robots that can travel through liquid at incredible speeds and may one day even deliver drugs to hard-to-reach places like bladder (膀胱) inside the human body. The new study shows this research is a big step forward for tiny robots. The microrobots are really small. Each one measures only 20 micrometers wide, several times smaller than the width of a human hair. They’re also really fast, capable of traveling at speeds of about 3 millimeters per second, or roughly 9, 000 times their own length per minute. The machines look a bit like small rockets and come complete with three tiny wings. The team makes its microrobots out of materials by using a technology similar to 3D printing. Each of the robots carries a small bubble (泡泡) of trapped air. If you expose the machines to sound, the bubbles will begin to shake wildly, pushing water away and shooting the robots forward. “Imagine if microrobots could perform certain tasks in the body, such as surgeries without cutting into the body,” said Jin Lee, lead author of the study, “we can simply introduce the robots to the body through a pill or an injection, and they would perform the procedure themselves. If that sounds like something copied from science fiction, that’s because it is.” He imagined that, just like in the movie, microrobots could move through a person’s blood stream, seeking out targeted areas. “Once there, the machines slowly released their medicine over the course of about two days. Such a steady flow of medicine could improve the outcome for patients.” Lee added, “But there is a lot of work to do before microrobots can travel through real human bodies.” For a start, the group wants to make the machines fully biodegradable so that they would eventually disappear in the body, causing no damage at all. “If we can make them work in the bladder,” Lee said, “maybe patients wouldn’t have to come into the clinic as often.” 32. What is an advantage of the invention? A. The small size. B. The rocket-like shape. C. The big bubble. D. The 3D-printed material. 33. What can we infer from Lee’s words about the robots in Paragraph 3? A. They cure bladder diseases. B. They help to give patients pills. C. They are inspired from science fiction. D. They have performed tasks in human bodies. 34 Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “biodegradable” in Paragraph 4? A. Efficient. B. Dissolvable C. Recyclable D. Sensitive. 35. What is the purpose of the text? A. To introduce a healthcare robot. B. To advertise a medical machine. C. To arouse interest in developing robots. D. To raise concern about bladder diseases. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Over years with technology and changes in lifestyle, the consumption of processed food has become very popular. On a sunny afternoon, Callie was reading a poem when she heard a soft knock. She stood up at once and opened the door. Her favourite neighbor, Mrs. Baker, stood outside the door. “I need your help, Callie,” Mrs. Baker said, “and do you know the empty lot (场地) down the street?” Callie nodded, smiling. “The place is a mess, covered with trash. The city is letting us use the lot as a community garden,” she explained. “We need help to clean up the lot on Saturday.” “Sure, Mrs. Baker!” Callie said cheerfully. “I just have nothing to do this Saturday. By then, adults and children in our community will have had a good place to go.” At school the next morning, Callie’s close friend Tamara was waiting for her by their classroom, who had a surprise for her. He has starred in 114 films. B. He is one of the greatest American actors. C. He has a great passion for the film industry. 20. What does the speaker mainly talk about? A. A brief introduction to Bollywood. B. Common entertainment activities in India. C. The comparison between Hollywood and Bollywood. 【答案】17. B 18. A 19. C 20. A 【解析】 【原文】W: Hi, everybody. Do you know Bollywood? Today I’d like to tell you about it. Bollywood, which is the name of the film industry in Mumbai, India, makes almost 1,000 films a year. Since making its first film in 1913, Bollywood has made over 29,000 films. This is a much larger number than Hollywood in the USA and means it is the biggest film industry in the world. Most Indians like watching films better than enjoying other free-time activities like traveling or doing sports. Ten million of them go to the cinema every day. Bollywood films tell love stories, and singing and dancing are an important part of every film. Indian films are also enjoyed outside India. Last year, Bollywood made over $500 million by selling its films to other countries. Indian actors make more films each year than American actors in Hollywood, but they are not paid as much. This is why most Bollywood films only cost about $2 million to make. A Hollywood film is never made for under $5 million. Most Bollywood actors are young. They work hard but only for a few years. Amitabh Bachchan, who some people say is India’s greatest actor, is different. He has been working in the film industry for 40 years, and has been the star of more than 140 films. OK, that’s all for today. Thank you for your listening. 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题52.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A Here are the introductions and achievements of four scientists. Jöns Jacob Berzelius Jöns Jacob Berzelius was a Swedish chemist, often referred to as one of the founders of modern chemistry. He developed a system of chemical symbols, which laid the foundation for the establishment of the modern periodic table. Berzelius also made important discoveries in the field of electrochemistry. Niels Henrik David Bohr Niels Henrik David Bohr was a Danish physicist. He proposed the atomic (原子的) model known as the Bohr model, which explained the behavior of electrons moving in fixed energy levels or orbits around the atomic nucleus. His model helped explain the spectra of elements and laid the groundwork for further developments in atomic physics. Robert Boyle Robert Boyle, born in Ireland, was regarded as one of the founders of modern chemistry, known for Boyle’s law. Boyle’s law describes the relationship between the pressure and volume (体积) of a gas at constant temperature. Boyle’s work laid the foundation for the modern understanding of gas behavior and promoted the development of scientific experimental methods. William Lawrence Bragg William Lawrence Bragg was a British physicist born in Australia who made significant contributions to X-ray crystallography (晶体学). C. “I stopped using it recently because I saw older people using it, like my mom, my older sisters and just older people in general.” For many Generation Zers, the emoji has become a popular replacement for conveying laughter. 【答案】28. B 29. D 30. A 31. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章谈论了网络上被广泛应用的表情符号不再像以前那么酷了,正在被年轻一代所淘汰。 【28题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“The symbols include the popular laughing crying emoji that some millennials (born in the 1980s), including me, use hundreds of times a day, or more. (这些符号包括流行的笑哭表情符号,一些千禧一代(80后),包括我,每天使用数百次,甚至更多。)”可知,作者对笑哭表情符号的使用是赞许的。故选B项。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“In recent weeks, two generations have been debating in videos and comments on Tik Tok over the symbols of millennial(千禧一代) culture that are now considered uncool by Generation z (born after 1996). (最近几周,两代人在Tik Tok上的视频和评论中就千禧一代文化符号展开了辩论,这些符号现在被z一代(1996年后出生)认为不酷。)”和第四段中“In a different video, a woman says she’s cut back on using it after learning kids don’t.(在另一段视频中,一名女子表示,在得知孩子们不会使用后,她已经减少了使用。)”以及倒数第二段中“That’s why Generation Zers may be looking to fresh and novel ways to signal they’re laughing in different ways. (这就是为什么z一代可能会寻找新的、新颖的方式来以不同的方式表示他们在笑。)”等内容可知,作者通过给出一些z一代的例子试图传达笑哭表情符号正在失去魅力。故选D项。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中Walid Mohammed 所说“I use everything but the laughing crying emoji (除了笑哭表情,我什么表情符号都用。)”和“I stopped using it recently because I saw older people using it, like my mom, my older sisters and just older people in general. (我最近不再用它了,因为我看到老年人在用它,比如我妈妈、我姐姐和一般的老年人。)”可知,我们能从21岁的Walid Mohammed身上推断出他想把自己和老年人区分开来。故选A项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中Gretchen McCulloch 所说“Tears of Joy was a victim of its own success. (‘快乐的眼泪’是它自身成功的受害者。)”和“If you express digital laughter for years and years in the same way, it starts to feel insincere... It gets worn out through continued use.(如果你年复一年地用同样的方式表达数字笑声,就会让人觉得不真诚……它会因为持续使用而磨损破旧。)”可知,“Tears of Joy”的问题是被使用太频繁了。故选C项。 D A team of engineers has invented a new type of tiny, self-driven robots that can travel through liquid at incredible speeds and may one day even deliver drugs to hard-to-reach places like bladder (膀胱) inside the human body. 34. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “biodegradable” in Paragraph 4? A. Efficient. B. Dissolvable C. Recyclable D. Sensitive. 35. What is the purpose of the text? A. To introduce a healthcare robot. B. To advertise a medical machine. C. To arouse interest in developing robots. D. To raise concern about bladder diseases. 【答案】32. Because of her parents’ business, her family moved from London to Los Angeles, where she grew up. Living in a quiet and warm community with her parents, Callie was very interested in various volunteer activities in the community, and almost no one in the community didn’t know her. I will be happy to help you!” Mrs. Baker looked pleased and said, “Thanks, Callie. We want to get the garden planted before summer. By then, adults and children in our community will have had a good place to go.” At school the next morning, Callie’s close friend Tamara was waiting for her by their classroom, who had a surprise for her. Tamara said, “My mom bought tickets to Fun World this Saturday. She has an extra one for you!” The girls had been waiting for months for the amusement park to reopen. Callie sighed and worried over how to choose for the rest of the day. Her mother noticed her mood when she arrived home. “Did something go wrong at school?” her mother asked. Callie explained her problem. “What should I do, Mom?” Callie asked. “I know you want to go with Tamara and also want to help Mrs. Baker. The girls hardly spoke for the rest of the week. On Sunday, Callie met Mrs. Baker at the empty lot. “Your mother said you made a tough choice. Thank you for giving a hand today.” Callie smiled as she cleaned with a large trash bag. “Do you need any help?” a voice behind her asked. Callie turned, surprised to see Tamara. “I know you made a promise to clean up the garden, and I wanted to come help you.
