It can be a new experience, but you shouldn’t worry. We’ve put together a guide on how to survive the first week. You’re not alone! Remember everybody else in your year is on the same boat. They may not realize it, but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to Senior High school is an opportunity, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules. Teachers are ready to help! If you’re unsure what to do or are worried about anything then you had better ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some Senior High schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. They will look out for you and help you if you have any problems or questions. All change There are lots of differences between Junior High school and Senior High school. You’ll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects. Other points If you’ve got an elder brother or sister at the school then ask them for advice. Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally. Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning! 1. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined sentence? A. Other students have similar feelings to yours. B. Other students have to learn boating with you. C. Other students will help you solve your problems. D. Other students will teach you politeness and new rules. 2. The new students turn to teachers first when having problems because_______. A. teachers won’t blame them as parents do B. teachers are good at helping solve problems C. teachers are equal to every student D. parents are too busy to help them 3. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To tell students the importance of learning. B. To warn students not to ignore friendship in Senior High school. C. To make a difference when moving up to Senior High school. D. To help new students to get used to the life in Senior High school. 【答案】1. A 2. B 3. Idioms are phrases and sentences that do not mean exactly what they say. Even if you know the meaning of each word, you may not understand the idiom because you don’t understand the culture behind it. Here are some English idioms based on animals. When children jump around and act silly, their parents may tell them to stop “monkeying around”.To “monkey around” means to do things that are not useful or serious, or to simply waste time. Many American families have and love pet dogs. But for some unknown reason, Americans use “dog” in a phrase that means to feel unwell. If you are “as sick as a dog”, you’re really, really sick. Sometimes you may also hear cats mentioned in conversations, “I told you to keep that secret, but you have just ‘let the cat out of the bag’!” You probably guessed it — that idiom means to reveal a secret or tell facts that were previously unknown. Dogs and cats don’t always get along, but they appear side by side in a commonly used idiom. When it rains heavily, people might say it’s “raining cats and dogs”. Heavy rain often ruins people’s plans for outdoor activities. But on a lovely day, you can have a picnic. If a swarm (一群) of tiny bugs love your food and start to hover (盘旋) around you, it would be really annoying. That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to “stop bugging me”. Idioms are very common in both spoken and written English. If you want to have a better understanding of English, you have to learn idioms. 4. According to Paragraph 1, which is right about idioms? A. Expressions which are based on animals. B. Expressions with rich cultural background. C. Expressions that always make sense. D. Expressions which are easy to understand. 5. What can “monkeying around” be used to describe? A. Children jump around and waste time. B. Children do something useful and serious. C. Children play with monkeys with their parents. D. Children spend time playing with their family pets. 6. What can be learned from the text? A. Dogs and cats always get along nicely. B. Bugs can be used to show your annoyance. C. Americans believe cats can give away secrets. D. Americans use the idiom “as sick as a dog” to describe a healthy man. 7. How does the text mainly develop? A. By sharing experiences. B. By making comparisons. C. By giving examples. D. By listing figures. 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. B 7. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。介绍了英语习语的特点并列举了一些与动物相关的习语。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段第三句“Even if you know the meaning of each word, you may not understand the idiom because you don’t understand the culture behind it. (即使你知道每个单词的意思,你也可能不理解这个习语,因为你不了解它背后的文化。)”可知,习语有它背后的文化。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“When children jump around and act silly, their parents may tell them to stop “monkeying around”.To “monkey around” means to do things that are not useful or serious, or to simply waste time. (当孩子们跳来跳去做傻事时,他们的父母可能会告诉他们不要“胡闹”。“胡闹”的意思是做一些没用或不严肃的事情,或者只是浪费时间。)”可知,“monkeying around”用来描述跳来跳去,浪费时间的孩子。故选A。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第六段最后两句“If a swarm (一群) of tiny bugs love your food and start to hover (盘旋) around you, it would be really annoying. That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to “stop bugging me”. C。 C It’s a warm summer afternoon. You’re cooking up the catch of the day over a campfire. Suddenly, a few raindrops fall on your arms, and before you know it, the sky opens up. Then you hear what sounds like thunder in the distance. What should you do? Your tent is close by and would offer shelter (庇护) from the pouring rain. There’s a campsite picnic shelter a few minutes down the path. And then you remember that your car is parked down the road. What’s your safest choice to make sure you and your families are safe?     It’s a common question for many hikers and campers, especially when they are camping during summer months. Heading to your car is almost always the safest choice. On the one hand, your tent and a picnic shelter will keep you dry, but they offer little or no protection against lightning. Your car, on the other hand, will keep you dry and protect you from lightning strikes. Protecting yourself against possible lightning strikes is very important; lightening kills an average of 62 people in the US each year. If you keep all of the windows and doors closed in your car, you’ll be able to return to your campsite safely. Of course, if you’re going backpacking (背包旅行), not car camping, and you’re deep in the woods, your car won’t be a good choice. So, what should you do if your car is far away and there’s no other safe shelter nearby? First, you’ll have to make sure that tree branches or other objects don’t fall on you or your campsite. Then you’ll have to get in a safe position to avoid lightning, or flash flood conditions. What else should you do? 8. To avoid lightning in a storm, you’d better________. A. go into your tent quickly B. cook up the catch of the day over a campfire C run into a campsite picnic shelter at once D. get into your car and return to your campsite later 9. What can we learn from Paragraph 2? A. Young people like backpacking best. B. Lightning is dangerous for campers. C. Car camping is a good choice for deep woods. D. Camping during summer is very popular. 10. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. It is important to learn to protect yourself when camping. B. Backpacking is not a good choice for campers. C. People should never camp deep in the woods. D. People should not go camping alone. 11. What is the passage mainly about? A. The meaning of camping. B. How to live through a storm when camping. C. How to travel safely. D. Car camping is the safest. 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. A 11. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了户外露营遭遇暴风雨时可采取的安全躲避的方法。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“On the one hand, your tent and a picnic shelter will keep you dry, but they offer little or no protection against lightning. Your car, on the other hand, will keep you dry and protect you from lightning strikes.(一方面,你的帐篷和野餐帐篷会让你保持干燥,但它们对雷击的保护很少或根本没有。另一方面,你的车会让你保持干燥,保护你免受雷击。)”可知,为了在暴风雨中避免闪电,你最好待在车里,故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Protecting yourself against possible lightning strikes is very important; lightening kills an average of 62 people in the US each year.(保护自己免受雷击是非常重要的;美国每年平均有62人死于雷击。)”可知,闪电对露营者来说很危险,故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Of course, if you’re going backpacking (背包旅行), not car camping, and you’re deep in the woods, your car won’t be a good choice. So, what should you do if your car is far away and there’s no other safe shelter nearby? First, you’ll have to make sure that tree branches or other objects don’t fall on you or your campsite. Then you’ll have to get in a safe position to avoid lightning, or flash flood conditions. What else should you do?(当然,如果你是背包旅行,而不是汽车露营,而且你在树林深处,你的车就不是一个好的选择。那么,如果你的车离得很远,附近又没有其他安全的避难所,你该怎么办呢?首先,你必须确保树枝或其他物体不会砸到你或你的营地。然后你必须找到一个安全的位置,以避免闪电或山洪暴发的情况。你还应该做什么呢?)”可推知,露营时学会保护自己是很重要的,故选A。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其第一段“Then you hear what sounds like thunder in the distance. What should you do?(然后你听到远处有雷鸣般的声音。你应该怎么做?)”和第二段中“ It’s a common question for many hikers and campers, especially when they are camping during summer months.(对于许多徒步旅行者和露营者来说,这是一个常见的问题,尤其是当他们在夏季露营时)”可知,本文主要介绍了户外露营遭遇暴风雨时可采取的安全躲避的方法。所以B选项“露营时如何度过暴风雨”符合题意,故选B。 D A young Dutch inventor is widening his effort to cleanup floating (浮动的) plastic from the Pacific Ocean. He has developed a floating device (设备) to trap plastic waste moving into rivers before it reaches the oceans. Boyan Slat was just 18 years old when he invented a system for catching waste in the ocean. He also founded an environmental group called “The Ocean Cleanup”. Its purpose is to develop the system. Last year, Slat showed the next step: a floating device which is called Interceptor. It removes plastic out of rivers. The device is powered by energy from the sun. “The 1,000 rivers are responsible for about 80% of plastic going into the world’s oceans,” said Slat. Three of the machines have already been used. Each machine costs about $775, 660, but the cost might drop as production increases. Since they were used, the machines have been doing very well, collecting the plastic bottles and all the rubbish in the rivers. According to Slat, it is necessary to close “the tap”, which means preventing more plastic from reaching the ocean in the first place. He wanted to clean them all in the next five years. “This is not going to be easy, but if we do get this done, we could truly make our oceans again, ”said Slat. The device is designed to be safe in rivers Its nose is shaped to change directions to keep it away from larger floating things. It works by guiding plastic waste into an opening in the front of the device. The waste is then carried inside the machine where it is dropped into containers. The devices ends a text message to local operators that can come and empty it when it is full. 12. What do we know about Interceptor? A. It needs solar power to work. B. It is mainly used in the oceans. C. It is being under test. D. It can help sort waste. 13. What does “the tap” refer to in Paragraph 3? A. The waste. B. The oceans. C. The machines. D. The rivers. 14. What’s the function of the device’s nose? A. To ensure the device’s safety. B. To send operators text messages. C. To empty the waste. D. To serve as containers. 15. Where is the text most likely from? A. A novel. B. A magazine. C. A diary. D. A guidebook. 【答案】12. A 13. D 14. A 15. It removes plastic out of rivers. The device is powered by energy from the sun.(去年,Slat展示了下一步:一个被称为Interceptor的浮动设备。它能清除河流中的塑料。该装置由太阳能提供动力)”可知,Interceptor需要太阳能来工作。故选A。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中“Since they were used, the machines have been doing very well, collecting the plastic bottles and all the rubbish in the rivers.(自从这些机器被使用以来,它们在收集河里的塑料瓶和所有垃圾方面一直做得很好)”以及“which means preventing more plastic from reaching the ocean in the first place.(这意味着首先要防止更多的塑料流入海洋)”可知,机器清理河流里面的塑料和垃圾,可得出Slat认为有必要关闭河流,这样可以防止更多的塑料流入海洋。故the tap指的是“河流”。故选D。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The device is designed to be safe in rivers. Its nose is shaped to change directions to keep it away from larger floating things.(这种装置在河流中是安全的。它的突出部分的形状是为了改变方向,以使它远离更大的漂浮物体)”可知,这个装置的突出部分用于确保设备安全。故选A。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“A young Dutch inventor is widening his effort to clean up floating plastic from the Pacific Ocean. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects. Other points If you’ve got an elder brother or sister at the school then ask them for advice. Be yourself! It sounds simple but people will know you much better if you just act naturally. Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning! 1. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined sentence? A. Other students have similar feelings to yours. B. Other students have to learn boating with you. C Other students will help you solve your problems. B English is full of funny expressions that don’t always make sense. C Children play with monkeys with their parents. C It’s a warm summer afternoon. The device is designed to be safe in rivers. Its nose is shaped to change directions to keep it away from larger floating things. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Your teen years are a time to learn about yourself and start thinking about your future.
