二、书面表达
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
1. The most important change in a person’s life is the change of his or her attitude. Right attitudes produce right actions. Have you ever met someone who gave you a different view of life?
On a Sunday morning, I saw something very interesting as I went to the greengrocer’s. To get there, I had to cross a bridge over railway tracks. The bridge was pretty high. A set of steep steps had to be climbed; then the bridge flattened out (变平), followed by coming down another set of steps. On my way back from the greengrocer’s, I saw an elderly gentleman running up the steps. After watching him run up the steps so fast, I thought that he could be in a rush.
Before I knew it, he had crossed the bridge, and then he ran back to where he started. To my surprise, he did not stop. He turned around, and then went up and down the bridge again. He was not struggling, and seemed to enjoy going up and down the bridge. Being a fitness fanatic (热衷于健美的人) myself, I admired his ability to Cross the bridge so quickly. My curiosity got the better of me, and I came up to him to have a chat with him.
“Excuse me, sir. Are you training for an event?” I asked.
He stopped. “No, not training for an event. Well, I am training for life,” he said with a broad smile on his face as sweat rolled down his cheeks.
I told him that I had been looking for a role model of fitness, and that I hoped to be as strong as he is when I get to his age. He said that everyone has a choice about what they do with their life. “I am not different,” he added. With much admiration, I asked, “What drives you to maintain good health?”
Then he told me the accident he met with when he was young.
Paragraph 1:
“I used to be a cyclist,” he said.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
His great determination paid off, and he was able to walk again.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2. I pulled the car into the garage and got out, just like every night for the past 16 years. The difference was that I wouldn’t have a job to take in the morning. I used to be a VP in technology for a national bank until it was closed.
I’d put my heart and soul into my job. Not only did I work long hours, but I was on call 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays. My kids joked that, though they were the teenagers, I was the one who was glued to the cellphone and had to be told not to text at the dinner table.
My wife, Michelle, went back to work fulltime once my job was threatened. But our kids would be going to college—our son, TJ, was a high school senior, and the girls, Sarah and Tara, were in ninth grade—and I wanted to give them the education and opportunities they deserved. God, if I can’t provide for my family, I asked, what good am I?
A ray of light streamed through the window, as if beckoning(召唤) me. I opened the door and stepped out into our yard. The lawn, the maple tree planted when I was young and the flower beds were overrun with weeds. They needed pruning(修剪).
Treasure this time. The thought came out of nowhere. But clear, clear as it could be, I shook my head. I couldn’t get distracted by random thoughts. The clock was ticking. I needed to get busy finding a new job.
I went up to the house. “I’m sorry, Dad,” TJ said. “I know how much your job meant to you.” His concern was mirrored in the girls’ faces. Then Michelle added, “It’s going to be okay. We’ll get through this together. Maybe you should consider this time as a break. You deserve one.”
A break? Was she kidding? There was no time to rest. If anything, I needed to work even harder.
Paragraph 1:
The next morning I got up before everyone else and opened my laptop.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Just a few hours here and there, the new lawn began to take shape and so did I.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
3. As a teacher, my daily routine includes driving to a new school almost every day so I’m usually unable to predict the day’s events, good or bad!
On one particular day, I was teaching in a very difficult class. Some of the schoolboys didn’t finish their homework on time and that really annoyed me. I was managing behaviour all morning and by lunchtime I knew I needed coffee to even consider surviving the afternoon. So on my lunchtime, I drove to a nearby plaza to get a cup of coffee. There I had a wonderful time and forgot the unpleasant experience in the morning. Upon returning to the car, I realized I had locked my keys and my phone inside! I had about 15 minutes to get back to the school which was a good 4-or-5-minute drive away. I considered rushing back, but it was winter, and I thought a dirty fall on ice would only make the situation much worse.
So I ran into a Mcdonald’s which was in the same plaza and asked the man at the counter to call me a cab. The man happened to be the manager of the restaurant. I briefly explained my situation to him, and I could tell by the look, that he empathized. He hurried to the back to use the phone while I paced in the restaurant. I had less than 10 minutes to get back to my school at this point.
The manager returned, only to tell me that the cab company had put him on hold and then the line got disconnected, and that he was now on hold again, but had not yet been able to request the cab yet. My expression, I am sure, began to resemble some combination of hopelessness and fear.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Without a thought, the manager grabbed his coat and offered to drive me to the school.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The manager’s calm behaviour and kind nature made me think

1. The most important change in a person’s life is the change of his or her attitude. Right attitudes produce right actions. Have you ever met someone who gave you a different view of life?
On a Sunday morning, I saw something very interesting as I went to the greengrocer’s. To get there, I had to cross a bridge over railway tracks. The bridge was pretty high. A set of steep steps had to be climbed; then the bridge flattened out (变平), followed by coming down another set of steps. On my way back from the greengrocer’s, I saw an elderly gentleman running up the steps. After watching him run up the steps so fast, I thought that he could be in a rush.
Before I knew it, he had crossed the bridge, and then he ran back to where he started. To my surprise, he did not stop. He turned around, and then went up and down the bridge again. He was not struggling, and seemed to enjoy going up and down the bridge. Being a fitness fanatic (热衷于健美的人) myself, I admired his ability to Cross the bridge so quickly. My curiosity got the better of me, and I came up to him to have a chat with him.
“Excuse me, sir. Are you training for an event?” I asked.
He stopped. “No, not training for an event. Well, I am training for life,” he said with a broad smile on his face as sweat rolled down his cheeks.
I told him that I had been looking for a role model of fitness, and that I hoped to be as strong as he is when I get to his age. He said that everyone has a choice about what they do with their life. “I am not different,” he added. With much admiration, I asked, “What drives you to maintain good health?”
Then he told me the accident he met with when he was young.
Paragraph 1:
“I used to be a cyclist,” he said.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
His great determination paid off, and he was able to walk again.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
“I used to be a cyclist,” he said. “Competing in cycling events is what I loved and enjoyed. “Then he told me why he stopped cycling. While cycling one day, he was hit by a car. The doctor told him that he might never walk again. He refused to believe that. So, he was determined not to let the accident prevent him from walking again.
Paragraph 2:
His great determination paid off, and he was able to walk again. His love for life and for fitness is what makes him cross the bridge many times. Moved by his story, I told him that it was an honor to meet a role model like him and that I wanted to make friends with him. He agreed happily. I shook his hand, thanked him for having a chat with me, and let him continue with his exercise. As I walked away, my admiration for him grew even more because of his attitude to life.

Paragraph 2:
Just a few hours here and there, the new lawn began to take shape and so did I.

【答案】The next morning I got up before everyone else and opened my laptop. To find a new job, I searched job sites, and companies with big technical departments, and emailed friends with connections. Then Michelle and the kids were up; the house was bustling. However, by midmorning the quiet of the house was driving me crazy. I walked to our yard to clear my head. My gaze fell on the overgrown lawn. At least that was a problem I could do something about. Then I settled into a new routine. I still applied for jobs, but I took a break to do things I’d neglected.
Just a few hours here and there, the new lawn began to take shape and so did I. With the physical labor, the extra weight and concern dropped off, and I felt healthier. Maybe God had answered a prayer I hadn’t even said. He gave me this time to treasure, to be the husband and father my family needed. And I also had the chance to find a healthy balance between work and home—a balance that even after I land a new position with a great company, I will be sure to keep.

【答案】范文
Without a thought, the manager grabbed his coat and offered to drive me to the school. Without hesitation, I followed him into his car and made it back into my classroom with 2 minutes to spare before the bell! Upon arriving at the school, I thanked this man endlessly.
The manager’s calm behaviour and kind nature made me think he was probably a wonderful manager to work for, and also a wonderful human being to have on this earth. This experience makes me realize that out of every seemingly hopeless situation, there is the opportunity for acts of kindness to happen, which can have an unimaginable impact on those who receive them.
