四、教学过程
(一)Warming-up (5 minutes)
1. Greetings
Say hello to the students and ask them how they are feeling today.
2. Free talk
Ask the students if they have been to a bookstore before and what they like to do in a bookstore.
(二)Presentation (15 minutes)
1. Show the pictures of different places and introduce the new words
Display pictures of a bookstore, library, museum, supermarket, hotel, hospital, etc. on the PPT.
Teach the students to read and spell the new words one by one.
Ask the students to repeat the words after the teacher and make some simple sentences with the new words.
For example: I often go to the library to read books. There is a big supermarket near my home.
2. Listen to the conversation and tick the correct map
Play the audio of the conversation for the first time.
Ask the students to listen carefully and try to understand the main idea.
Then show two different maps on the PPT and ask the students to tick the correct one.
Check the answers with the students and explain if necessary.
(三)Practice (15 minutes)
1. Listen to the conversation again and write the names of the places on the map
Play the audio of the conversation for the second time.
Ask the students to listen carefully and write the names of the places mentioned in the conversation on the map provided.
Invite some students to come to the front and show their answers on the blackboard.
Correct the answers with the whole class.
2. Work in pairs. Look at the map in Activity 3 and talk about the way to the places
Ask the students to work in pairs. One student asks for the way to a certain place and the other student gives directions using the expressions they have learned.
Walk around the classroom and offer help and guidance when needed.
Invite several pairs to act out their conversations in front of the class.
(四)Production (5 minutes)
1. Create a real-life situation
Set up a situation that one student is a tourist and lost in the city. The other students need to give directions to help the tourist.
2. Group work
Divide the students into groups of four. Each group discusses and prepares a short dialogue about giving and asking for directions.
3. Presentation
Invite some groups to perform their dialogues in front of the class. Encourage other students to listen carefully and give comments.
(五)Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
1. Summary
Review the key points of this lesson, including the new words and the expressions for giving and asking for directions.
Ask the students to summarize what they have learned in this lesson.
2. Homework
Draw a map of your neighborhood and write down the directions to some important places.
Practice the conversation with your partner after class.
