The world’s first large language model (LLM) for moon study is coming! It makes studying the moon much faster and easier than before.
The new tool came out in August at the China International Big Data Industry Expo in Guiyang, Guizhou. The Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Geochemistry (中国科学院地球化学研究所) made it.
The LLM is the “smart brain” for the digital moon, which has the most moon information in one place in the world, said Xinhua.
On the moon, there are more than 1 million big craters (陨石坑) and lots of small ones. It’s really hard for scientists to find all these holes by themselves. The LLM can tell and remember different craters by size, depth (深度) and shape.
According to Liu Jianzhong, a researcher at the Institute of Geochemistry, the model is correct more than 80 percent of the time.
Working things out faster helps scientists learn more quickly and get ready for harder missions (任务) in the future. Using big AI models for moon science can also teach researchers how to explore other planets better.
“The LLM is like a child with a very high IQ. We train and teach the child professional (专业的) things,” Liu told Xinhua. “We will keep it growing and helping us solve more scientific problems.”

Sarah Sauve, a music scientist at the University of Lincoln in the UK, did a new study on this. She invited 121 people to take part in it. They were between 18 and 86 years old.
Sauve first asked them to listen to three musical phrases (乐句). Then, she told them to watch a concert. They needed to make a note whenever they heard the familiar phrases.
To her surprise, the older people were just as good at recognizing the phrases as the younger ones were. This showed that our musical memory doesn’t change as we grow old. Scientists may use this to deal with illnesses that hurt people’s memory, such as Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默病). Music may help these people remember things.

Dear Aunt Linda,
I like reading your advice page. It is very useful. I’m writing to share my experience with you.
I had some difficulties in learning English. I worked hard at English, but I couldn’t get high marks in exams, which made me feel stressed. Sometimes, I even wanted to give it up. Fortunately, my English teacher noticed my problem, she told me many ways to learn English. For example, she asks me to recite five words every day and dictate in time. She also advised me to listen to English songs and watch English movies, and we often share songs and movies together. With my persistence and the help of my teacher, my English has improved a lot.
Although growing up is hard, I still believe my life will be full of love and joy. I wish I can have a wonderful life in the future.

In 1988, Hainan became a special economic zone (经济特区). More people and large companies went there to do business. Many people of Lin’s age left their jobs and went straight into business. So did Lin. “The fast-growing economy of Hainan drew me in,” he said.

13. In which way does the LLM research the moon for scientists?
A. It studies the moon much faster and more easily than before.
B. It can tell and remember different craters by different areas.
C. It came out in August in Guiyang, Guizhou.
D. It is correct more than 80 percent of the time.
14. What will the researchers possibly do with the help of LLM?
A. Inventing smart brains. B. Exploring other planets.
C. Getting ready for missions. D. Finding all these holes.
15. Which is the simple but vivid metaphor (生动的比喻) to the LLM?
A. The world’s first LLM for moon study is coming!
B. The LLM is the “smart brain” for the digital moon.
C. It is trained and taught professional things.
D. The LLM is like a child with a very high IQ.
16. What can be the best title of the text?
A. Using AI models for science B. Keeping LLM growing
C. Solving scientific problems D. Looking into the Moon
