And so the man set out for the market. He looked long and hard at the animals offered for sale before finally making an agreement with the owner of an expensive horse. The man would buy the horse on one condition: the owner had to allow the man to try out the animal before paying the money. The owner was puzzled. He had never heard of such a deal before, but he agreed to the man’s request. The man walked the horse home and put him in the straw yard with his other horses. He watched the animals to see how they would behave. Almost immediately, the new animal left the others and joined the laziest, fattest, and sleepiest-looking horse under the shade of a large tree. Seeing this, the man quickly led the horse back to the market. He gave the horse back to the owner and refused to buy it. A Australian snowfields offer a unique experience for skiers looking for fresh snow with a beautiful backdrop. The drownings have put a renewed focus on the importance of adults learning how to swim. ABC15 met Deborah McCrory as she was getting a swimming lesson from her instructor Shelbi Schmit at her local Valley of the Sun YMCA.McCrory said an experience when she was a teen made her afraid of the water for over 50 years. “I just sank (下沉), and the lifeguards had to come to save me and I had to sit on the side of the pool and watch all of the other girls swim and have a good time,” McCrory said. “I just shook, and I was afraid I was going to die, and I wanted nothing to do with the water.” McCrory said it was her five-year-old grandson Connor who encouraged her to give it a second chance. “We were at the pool and I was in the three-foot area walking back and forth and he said, Grandma, this will not work. You need to learn to swim,” she said. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), drowning is the third-leading cause of accidental (意外的)death. “Last year just in Arizona, over half of the drownings that we had were adults and most of them happened on waterfronts and lakes,” said Herbert Schmidt from the Valley of the Sun YMCA.“That alone is why it’s never too late to learn. And we teach lessons from six months to 106.” At 71 years young, McCrory says she’s just getting started. “This has brought me out where I want to try more interesting things,” she said. “I’m ready for it. Whatever comes along, I’m ready for it.” Herbert says adult swim classes are offered for free through the Valley of the Sun YMCA. 24.Why was McCrory afraid of swimming for many years A.She had a fear while swimming. B.She was hurt in a swimming lesson. C.She was badly treated by a lifeguard. D.She couldn’t swim as well as other girls. 25.What made McCrory brave enough to try swimming? A.Her grandson’s swimming accident. B.Her instructor’s ideas on swimming. C.Her decision to challenge herself. D.Her grandson’s encouragement. 26.What lesson can we learn from the reported drownings? A.Adults should take care of their children. B.Adults should learn from teenage swimmers. C.Adults should learn to swim to protect themselves. D.Adults should practice swimming more on waterfronts. 27.What is McCrory’s attitude to trying new things? A.She welcomes it. B.She is unsure of it. C.She is careful about it. D.She doubts if she can do it. 根据第二段的“McCrory said an experience when she was a teen made her afraid of the water for over 50 years.(麦克罗里说,她十几岁时的一次经历让她害怕水长达50多年。)”以及“I just shook, and I was afraid I was going to die, and I wanted nothing to do with the water.”(我只是发抖,我害怕自己会死,我不想和水有任何关系。) 根据第四段的“McCrory said it was her five-year-old grandson Connor who encouraged her to give it a second chance.( 麦克罗里说,是她五岁的孙子康纳鼓励她再给自己一次机会。)” 根据第五段的“According to the World Health Organization (WHO), drowning is the third-leading cause of accidental (意外的)death. “Last year just in Arizona, over half of the drownings that we had were adults and most of them happened on waterfronts and lakes,” said Herbert Schmidt from the Valley of the Sun YMCA. “That alone is why it’s never too late to learn. And we teach lessons from six months to 106.”(根据世界卫生组织(WHO)的数据,溺水是意外死亡的第三大原因。太阳谷基督教青年会的赫伯特·施密特说:“去年仅在亚利桑那州,超过一半的溺水者是成年人,其中大多数发生在海滨和湖泊。”正因为如此,学习永远不会嫌晚。我们的课程从6个月到106个月不等。”)”可知,根据世界卫生组织的数据,成年人溺水死亡比例比较高,因此成年人应该学习游泳保护好自己,故选C。 27.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段的“At 71 years young, McCrory says she’s just getting started. “This has brought me out where I want to try more interesting things,” she said. “I’m ready for it. Whatever comes along, I’m ready for it.”(现年71岁的麦克罗里说,她才刚刚开始。“这让我想尝试更有趣的事情。”她说,“我准备好了。无论发生什么,我都准备好了。”)”可知,麦克罗里认为她做好了尝试新事物的准备,因此推断她欢迎尝试新事物,故选A。 C Many areas of the world suffer from low rainfall, and with climate change, the water shortage (短缺) is increasingly becoming a problem in some places. So more and more people, companies and governments are now looking for ways to make houses completely self-sufficient in water-providing it and dealing with it themselves. In some houses in rural areas of Australia, the owners are doing exactly this. Although the houses are in a suburb called Gelorup, only 10 kilometres from the city of Bunbury, they do not have water supplied to them. Instead, water is collected on the roof and from the channels (排水沟) and then run into underground pipes that lead to a large water tank (箱). From the tank the water purified (净化) in the underground system is sent back to the house to meet all household needs from drinking to cleaning toilets. Because of this, no one in the households can use strong chemicals for cleaning and washing. We produce different kinds of water waste from our homes. Black water is the waste water that comes from our toilets, but most of our waste water is actually grey water. This is the waste water produced by people having showers or baths, washing their hands or faces in the sink, and washing their clothes or dishes. However, while grey water is not drinkable, there are many ways in which it can be reused around the home. With water recycling systems, grey water can be collected and made safe enough to use on gardens and for cleaning toilets. The process of treating and transporting water produces large amounts of carbon emissions. So if we all began to recycle our grey water, it could radically reduce the impact on the environment. The use of water recycling systems would also help with the problems of water shortage faced in many areas of the world. Water recycling, it seems, must have an important place in our future. 28.What information does paragraph 2 mainly tell us? A.Why the water should be recycled. B.How the water recycling system works. C.What difficulties the house owners are facing. D.Why strong chemicals may be used for cleaning and washing. 29.What can we do to deal with the waste water? A.We should know the different kinds of waste water. B.We should reduce it by not having showers or baths. C.We should find some ways to reuse the recyclable waste water. D.We should drink the waste water purified by water recycling systems. 30.Which of the following words can best replace the underlined word in the last paragraph? A.greatly B.creatively C.likely D.regularly 31.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? A.Water recycling: the way of the future B.Saving water: the immediate need C.House owners: the different choice D.Grey water: the most important point 【参考答案】 28.B 29.C 30.A 31.D 【语篇解读】 本文是说明文。 根据第二段中“Although the houses are in a suburb called Gelorup, only 10 kilometres from the city of Bunbury, they do not have water supplied to them. Instead, water is collected on the roof and from the channels (排水沟) and then run into underground pipes that lead to a large water tank (箱). From the tank the water purified (净化) in the underground system is sent back to the house to meet all household needs from drinking to cleaning toilets. Because of this, no one in the households can use strong chemicals for cleaning and washing.(尽管这些房屋位于距离班伯里市仅10公里的格洛鲁普郊区,但他们没有供水。 根据第三段中“However, while grey water is not drinkable, there are many ways in which it can be reused around the home. With water recycling systems, grey water can be collected and made safe enough to use on gardens and for cleaning toilets.(然而,虽然灰水不可饮用,但可以通过多种方式在家里重复使用。 根据上文“The process of treating and transporting water produces large amounts of carbon emissions.(水处理和输送过程会产生大量碳排放。)”和划线单词所在句子“So if we all began to recycle our grey water, it could radically reduce the impact on the environment.(因此,如果我们都开始回收灰水,就可以radically减少对环境的影响。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段中“So more and more people, companies and governments are now looking for ways to make houses completely self-sufficient in water-providing it and dealing with it themselves.(因此,越来越多的人、公司和政府现在正在寻找使房屋完全自给自足的方法——自己提供水并处理水。)”和第三段中“However, while grey water is not drinkable, there are many ways in which it can be reused around the home.(然而,虽然灰水不可饮用,但可以通过多种方式在家里重复使用。)”和最后一段中“So if we all began to recycle our grey water, it could radically reduce the impact on the environment.(因此,如果我们都开始回收灰水,就可以从根本上减少对环境的影响。)” D Chile (智利) is famous for its many attractions, including Torres del Paine National Park and Easter Island . If you’re planning a visit, be sure to add “Mano del Desierto” or “Hand of the Desert”to your must-see list. Standing 11 meters tall and made of iron and cement (混凝土), this sculpture (雕像) of a hand emerges (出现) from the sand in the Atacama Desert , which is known as the driest desert in the world outside of polar regions. The sculpture was created by Mario Irarr á zabal in the early 1980s and was financed by a local nonprofit organization called Corporaci ó n Pro Antofagasta. The sculpture is not only famous for its size and design but also for the message it expresses. Many people believe that the hand represents the weakness and helplessness of human beings, as well as their strength and determination to overcome hardships. If you’re interested in visiting the Hand of the Desert, take Route 26 or 28 from Antofagasta, a port city in northern Chile. The sculpture is located between mile markers 1309 and 1310. The desert’s flatness (平坦) makes it easy to spot the sculpture from far away. But some people mistake it for a mirage (海市蜃楼) caused by tiredness from driving a long way to the sculpture. Visitors should take precautions (预防措施) before leaving , such as filling their gas tanks , taking plenty of water, and wearing sunscreen. They should also avoid driving too quickly, as many car accidents happen in the desert each year. For those who are worried about driving alone, working with an agency (机构) like Plan South America is a good option. The founder of the agency, Harry Hastings, said that he always tries to join a visit to the sculpture with guests traveling to the desert. 32.What makes the Hand of the Desert a famous attraction? A.Its material. B.Its location. C.Its designer. D.Its size and design. 33.What can we infer from the third paragraph? A.The sculpture attracts millions of visitors every year. B.Tired travelers often see mirages in the desert. C.The sculpture can be reached very easily. D.The sculpture can be seen from far away. 34.What can we know about Harry Hastings from the passage? A.He built the sculpture “Hand of the Desert”. B.He gave the financial support to the sculpture. C.His agency can help lonely travelers travel to the desert. D.He can avoid driving accidents in the desert. 35.Which column does this passage belong to in a newspaper? A.Travel. B.Environment. C.Culture. D.Entertainment. 根据第二段“The sculpture is not only famous for its size and design but also for the message it expresses.(这座雕塑不仅以其尺寸和设计而闻名,还以其所表达的信息而闻名)”可知,这座雕塑以其尺寸和设计而闻名。故选D项。 33. 根据第三段“The desert’s flatness (平坦) makes it easy to spot the sculpture from far away.(沙漠的平坦使得从远处很容易看到这座雕塑)”可推知,从很远的地方能看到这座雕塑。故选D项。 34. 根据最后一段“The founder of the agency, Harry Hastings, said that he always tries to join a visit to the sculpture with guests traveling to the desert.(该机构的创始人哈里·哈斯廷斯说,他总是试图与前往沙漠的客人一起参观这座雕塑)”可推知,他的旅行社可以帮助孤独的旅行者前往沙漠。故选C项。 35. 根据第一段“If you’re planning a visit, be sure to add “Mano del Desierto” or “Hand of the Desert”to your must-see list.( 如果你计划参观,一定要把“Mano del Desierto”或“沙漠之掌”添加到你的必看名单中)”、第三段“If you’re interested in visiting the Hand of the Desert, take Route 26 or 28 from Antofagasta, a port city in northern Chile.( 如果你有兴趣参观沙漠之手,可以从智利北部的港口城市安托法加斯塔乘坐26或28号公路)”以及倒数第二段“Visitors should take precautions (预防措施) before leaving , such as filling their gas tanks , taking plenty of water, and wearing sunscreen.(游客在离开前应采取预防措施,如加满油箱、多喝水和涂防晒霜)”可知,本文主要介绍了智利的旅游景点“沙漠之掌”,并提供了相关注意事项。 故选A项。 Music can be a great mental rest, allowing you to relax and get lost in your favorite songs. 36 Here are some ways music can make you a better person and positively impact your everyday life. “This has brought me out where 1 want to try more interesting things,” she said. “I’m ready for it. D.She doubts if she can do it. C Many areas of the world suffer from low rainfall, and with climate change, the water shortage (短缺) is increasingly becoming a problem in some places. A.Water recycling: the way of the future B.Saving water: the immediate need C.House owners: the different choice D.Grey water: the most important point D Chile (智利) is famous for its many attractions, including Torres del Paine National Park and Easter Island . C.Culture. Silence!” Ms. Benette suddenly entered the class. She announced next week would be maths week. “I’d like each of you to work on a project. You could do it individually or in a group,” she instructed. “The topic for the project needs approving tomorrow and it has to be showed at the maths week exhibition. The best project will be awarded and there is also a surprise gift from my side,” she added. Jack, who is extremely good at maths, sat in the corner seat of the first bench with Cathy, an average. Cathy asked Jack if they could work on the maths project together. Jack replied in a prideful tone, “Ha-ha you want to join me. I think I will do the project on my own.” Jack wanted to get awarded and the surprise gift all for himself from Ms. Benette. After deep consideration, Jack decided to work on a maths magic quiz on the circuit board (电路板). The next day in school, Ms. Benette arrived in the classroom and all the children submitted their topics for maths exhibition. They all chose to work in a group except Jack. In the following days, Jack gathered all the materials for the project such as wires, bulbs(灯泡), a switch and a thin plywood board(胶合板). He worked out a few mathematical basic operations to be fixed on the board so that when the wire of the circuit touched the right answer, the bulb glowed(发光). Jack completed the project and was happy with the result. The evening before the exhibition, while packing his school bags, Jack again checked the project to see if it was working fine. Alas! All the lights that were to glow did not seem to light at all. Without finding the reason, Jack was anxious. However, he decided to take the same project to the school as he couldn’t change the topic at the last minute. Then came the next day, and everybody was fascinated in the exhibition. Paragraph 1: It was Jack’s turn to show his project. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2: Finally, the teacher announced Cathy’s team was the winner. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试题 第7页(共10页) 试题 第8页(共10页) 试题 第9页(共10页) 试题 第10页(共10页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null2024-2025学年高一英语上学期第三次月考卷 答题卡 第三富分语言运月《共二节,满分3用分) 第二节(共10小想:每小是1.5分,满分15分) 营 贴条形科区 56 57 5线 59 团 61 62 64 65 0 0 0 0 1 注某项 第西军分写作(共两书。 1G Finally, the seacher announced Cathy's teamn was the wirner.
