D.Negative. B In December 2004, I had just become a professional photographer and was working on a project about communities who live on the sea, known as sea nomads I was living with members of the Chao-Ley tribe (部落) on a small island in southern Thailand. We didn’t share a language and relied on body language to communicate. I went out to sea with them regularly. One morning, I was due to set out with a group of six Chao-Ley fishermen in a small boat. The sea looked different, with the water totally still. About 20 minutes after we left and a few miles out in the open sea, one of the fishermen pointed to a small white spot far in the distance. It was getting bigger and bigger very quickly. This was a tsunami (海啸) wave speeding through the ocean. Usually, the deeper the water, the weaker the wave. But we weren’t out far enough to be safe, nor close enough to shore to make it back in time. We were stuck. I began to feel really scared. The captain told the six of us where to sit, so we would balance out the boat. My camera was in my backpack. I wanted to capture the scene, but I couldn’t. Any movement would imbalance the boat. Suddenly there was a huge noise. The wave hit the boat, but in a flash the skilled captain managed to swerve (使突然转向) us up and onto the wave. Then the boat moved from the tip of the wave down into safe waters. Our eyes and mouths were wide open, and everyone let out heavy sighs. The captain had saved us all. Surviving gave me a deep understanding of how important life can be. I’ve been going back to Southeast Asia almost every year since then. The photography project has become a thank-you to the people who saved my life. The picture I wanted to take on the boat remains “the one that got away” – I think every photographer has one. But mine changed my life. 24.What happened before the author set out with the fishermen? A.The captain wanted to cancel the trip. B.He noticed something unusual. C.They saw a white spot in the distance. D.It looked like it was about to rain. 25.When did the author start to feel frightened? A.When fishermen on the boat felt nervous. B.When he realized they were trapped. C.When the boat was about to be hit. D.When the boat shook violently. 26.What was the author doing when the tsunami wave hit the boat? A.Helping the captain swerve. B.Taking a photo of the wave. C.Trying not to move. D.Reaching for his backpack. 27.What did the author learn from his experience? A.We should have the courage to take risks. B.Opportunity never knocks twice. C.Life is too short to be wasted. D.Sometimes regrets in life can save us. C Art and science may seem like opposite things. One means the creative flow of ideas, and the other means cold, hard data (数据)—some people believe. In fact, the two have much in common. Now, a study finds art can help students remember better what they learned in science class. Mariale Hardiman, an education specialist at Johns Hopkins University, noticed that students who used art in the classroom listened more carefully. They might ask more questions. They might volunteer more ideas. What’s more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their science lessons included art. To prove that, Hardiman teamed up with some researchers and six local schools. In the experiment, the researchers worked with teachers in 16 fifth-grade classrooms. They provided traditional science lessons and art-focused ones. In the art-focused ones, they might sing the information instead. The team randomly (随机地) divided the 350 students into either a traditional science classroom or an art-focused one. Students then learned science using that way for the whole unit —about three weeks. When they changed to a new topic, they also changed to the other type of class. This way, each student had both an art-focused class and a traditional one. Every unit was taught in both ways, to different groups of students. This enabled the researchers to see how students did in both types of classes. The team found that students who started off in traditional classes performed better after they moved into an art-focused class. But those who started in an art-focused class did well even when they went back to a traditional science class. These students appeared to use some of the art techniques (技巧) after going back to a traditional class. Classroom teachers reported that many students continued to sing the songs that they learned after finishing the unit. “The more we hear something, the more we retain it,” Hardiman says. “It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own.” 28.What is the purpose of the study? A.To offer great ways to teach art lessons. B.To find a way to help students learn better. C.To see if art and science have a lot in common. D.To prove art might be useful for science learning. 29.What were the students required to do in the experiment? A.Take two types of classes. B.Learn three units in total. C.Learn two topics for three weeks. D.Choose what they would like to learn. 30.What does the underlined word “retain” in the last paragraph mean? A.Improve. B.Express. C.Remember. D.Finish. 31.What is the text type? A.A research report. B.A book review. C.A short story. D.An art introduction. D In China, tea has become an important part of everyday life for thousands of years. As the tea-processing methods and tea culture have evolved over the years, tea sets have also changed to meet the practical and cultural needs. During the Tang Dynasty(618~907AD), tea leaves were traded across the country and Asia. For the convenience of transportation and storage, tea leaves were pressed into bricks. To prepare tea, drinkers had to cut them into small pieces and boil them in heat-resistant teapots. By the Song Dynasty(960-1279), drinkers started to turn the hard bricks into powders (粉末) that could be whipped (搅打) in a cup with boiled water. This whipped tea is most commonly associated with Japanese tea ceremonies today. By the 1500s, tea bricks gave way to the form of rolled leaves. This innovation led to the invention and use of teapots as we know them today. These teapots originally came from the Yi Xing region of China and were soon copied throughout the world. Then Japanese teapot-makers moved the handle from the side to the top of the teapots. Tea finally reached Europe in the 1600s, along with the necessary tea sets made in Japan and China. As English teapot-makers began to adapt the tea sets to their country men’s tastes, they eventually added a handle to the tea bowl because of the English habit of drinking hot black tea, which was consumed at higher temperatures. The size of teacups also grew to accommodate milk and sugar in their tea. By the early 1900s, innovations in tea drinking became an American affair. The most revolutionary one was the tea bag, which was accidentally commercialized by Thomas Sullivan. He had been sending customers tea wrapped in silk bags. Rather than take the leaves out of the bags, as Sullivan intended, the customers put the bags into their teapots instead. Not only did the tea bags push the teapot back to the sidelines of tea service, they were also too large for teacups and led to the modern practice of drinking tea from mugs. 32.Which was used to make the whipped tea in Japan? A.Rolled tea leaves. B.Freshly picked tea leaves. C.Powdered tea leaves. D.Loosely pressed tea leaves. 33.Which innovation was first introduced by the British? A.Tea bags and mugs. B.Tea bowls with handles. C.Heat-resistant teapots. D.Teapots with top handles. 34.What can we learn from Thomas Sullivan’s story? A.Customers are very creative. B.Innovations are relatively easy. C.Marketing strategy is critical. D.Good ideas can be born by accident. 35.What is the best title for the text? A.The Development of Tea Sets B.Varieties of Tea Leaves C.Various Tea-making Methods D.The Spread of Tea Trades How to motivate (激励) a lazy teenager Here’s how to give the teenagers the motivation they need without nagging (唠叨) them. 36 A teenager needs between 8-10 hours of sleep every night but most only get about 6.5-7.5 hours of sleep per night. W: But you can visit them more often during the holidays. What about I permit you 10 more days off each year? Or I can help you apply for a pay rise. Plus, you’ll get a golden handshake if you can work in our American branch for at least 5 years. Do you want to go there? I truly appreciate your work. M: Thank you, Ms. Thomas. For example, you can listen to English news while you are dressing and washing. At the same time, you can imitate and speak English loudly. You need to take every opportunity to learn. W: Practice makes perfect, right? M: You said it. 17.What is the biggest difference between weak AI and strong AI? A.Cost. B.Service time. More and more companies have used it in their products, such as AlphaGo, self-driving, facial recognition, online assistants and so on. Generally, there are two types of AI: weak AI and strong AI. Weak AI is an AI system that is designed and trained to complete a specific task. For example, Apple’s Siri can answer people’s simple questions and obey a programmed order. But it can’t work without humans. Strong AI differs from weak AI in this part most. Strong AI can solve problems and find solutions without humans, such as the self-driving car. It can control a vehicle without human involvement, and avoid unexpected obstacles, such as passersby. As a whole, AI can make human life easy and convenient, and many experts believe the future of AI is bright. But it is expensive and requires complex systems to operate. There are still many problems to solve, such as … A Kids Fleet Summer Day Camp      Summer camp is a lot of fun when you’re a Kids Fleet Camper! I was living with members of the Chao-Ley tribe (部落) on a small island in southern Thailand. I’ve been going back to Southeast Asia almost every year since then . 根据第二段中“One morning, I was due to set out with a group of six Chao-Ley fishermen in a small boat. The sea looked different, with the water totally still.”(一天早晨,我正要和一群六个Chao-Ley 渔民乘坐一条小船出发。 根据第四段“Usually, the deeper the water, the weaker the wave. But we weren’t out far enough to be safe, nor close enough to shore to make it back in time. We were stuck. I began to feel really scared.”(通常,水越深,波浪就越弱。 根据倒数第二段中“The captain told the six of us where to sit, so we would balance out the boat. My camera was in my backpack. I wanted to capture the scene, but I couldn’t. Any movement would imbalance the boat. ”(船长告诉我们六个人坐在哪里,这样我们就能使船平衡。我的相机在我的背包里。我想捕捉现场,但我做不到。任何动作都会使船失去平衡。)可知,为了让船能平衡,船长告知作者在内的六人坐在相应的位置。尽管作者想拿出相机拍摄,但任何动作都会使船失去平衡。可推知,海啸袭击船的时候,作者尽力保持不动。故选C。 27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Surviving gave me a deep understanding of how important life can be. I’ve been going back to Southeast Asia almost every year since then. The photography project has become a thank-you to the people who saved my life. The picture I wanted to take on the boat remains “the one that got away” – I think every photographer has one. But mine changed my life.”(生存让我深刻理解了生命的重要性。 D。 C Art and science may seem like opposite things. 【答案】28.D 29.A 30.C 31.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第二段“What’s more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their science lessons included art. To prove that, Hardiman teamed up with some researchers and six local schools.”(更重要的是,当他们的科学课包括艺术课时,学生们似乎记得更多他们曾经学过的东西。 根据第四段中“The team randomly (随机地) divided the 350 students into either a traditional science classroom or an art-focused one.”(研究小组将350名学生随机分成两组,一组是传统的科学课堂,另一组是以艺术为主的课堂。)以及“This enabled the researchers to see how students did in both types of classes.”(这使得研究人员能够看到学生在这两种类型的课堂上的表现。) 故选A。 30. 根据画线词后的“It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own.”(这表明,艺术可以帮助学生应用创造性的自学方法。) A. Improve.提高; B. Express.表达;C. Remember.记住;D. Finish.完成。故选C。 31. 通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“Now, a study finds art can help students remember better what they learned in science class.”(现在,一项研究发现,艺术可以帮助学生更好地记住他们在科学课上学到的东西。) A。 D In China, tea has become an important part of everyday life for thousands of years. A.The Development of Tea Sets B.Varieties of Tea Leaves C.Various Tea-making Methods D.The Spread of Tea Trades 【答案】32.C 33.B 34.D 35.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据文章三段“By the Song Dynasty(960-1279), drinkers started to turn the hard bricks into powders (粉末) that could be whipped (搅打) in a cup with boiled water. This whipped tea is most commonly associated with Japanese tea ceremonies today. (到了宋朝(960-1279),饮茶者开始把这种坚硬的砖块变成粉末,可以在一个杯子里用开水搅拌。这种搅打过的茶在今天的日本茶道中最常见。)”可知,日本点茶用的是茶的粉末。故选C。 33.细节理解题。根据文章第五段“As English teapot-makers began to adapt the tea sets to their country men’s tastes, they eventually added a handle to the tea bowl because of the English habit of drinking hot black tea, which was consumed at higher temperatures. (随着英国的茶具制造商开始根据英国人的口味调整茶具,他们最终在茶碗上加了一个把手,因为英国人习惯喝热红茶,这种茶要在较高的温度下饮用。)”可知,带有把手的茶碗是英国人最先提出的创新。故选B。 34.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The most revolutionary one was the tea bag, which was accidentally commercialized by Thomas Sullivan. (最具革命性的是茶包,它被托马斯·沙利文意外地商业化了。)”可推断,有的创意是偶然的。故选D。 35.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“As the tea-processing methods and tea culture have evolved over the years, tea sets have also changed to meet the practical and cultural needs. (随着多年来茶叶加工方法和茶文化的发展,茶具也发生了变化,以满足实用和文化的需要。)”以及全文内容可知,本文主要是讲茶具的衍变,A项“茶具的发展”适合作文章标题。故选A。 How to motivate (激励) a lazy teenager Here’s how to give the teenagers the motivation they need without nagging (唠叨) them. 36 A teenager needs between 8-10 hours of sleep every night but most only get about 6.5-7.5 hours of sleep per night. So when a teenager is forced out of bed at 7 am or 8 am to go to school, their natural sleep cycle is thrown off and they will likely appear lazy, unmotivated, all symptoms (症状) of lack of sleep. 37 . Limit screen time It is recommended that teenagers spend no more than two hours a day sitting in front of a small screen and get 60 minutes’ exercise a day. 38 . Teach responsibility It’s important for teenagers to help with tasks and learn responsibility. 39 . Be firm and clear about the results for not finishing the housework-this can range from no screen time, to less pocket money or not being allowed to go out with their friends. Show them the love Teenagers might not act like they need it or want it. 40 . When teenagers know adults are emotionally (情感上) available to support them, a welcome change in their behaviour may be seen. So when a teenager is forced out of bed at 7 am or 8 am to go to school, their natural sleep cycle is thrown off and they will likely appear lazy, unmotivated, all symptoms (症状) of lack of sleep.(青少年每晚需要8-10个小时的睡眠,但大多数人每晚只睡6.5-7.5个小时。 故选A。 37.根据前文的“A teenager needs between 8-10 hours of sleep every night but most only get about 6.5-7.5 hours of sleep per night. So when a teenager is forced out of bed at 7 am or 8 am to go to school, their natural sleep cycle is thrown off and they will likely appear lazy, unmotivated, all symptoms (症状) of lack of sleep.(青少年每晚需要8-10个小时的睡眠,但大多数人每晚只睡6.5-7.5个小时。 可知,F选项“Make sure the teenager goes to bed on time and gets eight hours of sleep a night(确保青少年按时上床睡觉,每晚睡足8小时) 是针对前文提出的解决方案即要求青少年按时上床睡觉,每晚保证8小时睡眠。故选F。 38. G选项“Make screen time a reward by ensuring teenagers finish their homework or tasks first(确保青少年先完成作业或任务,把屏幕的时间作为奖励.)” D选项“Set a plan with teenagers for the daily housework they would prefer to do(为青少年制定一个他们喜欢做的日常家务的计划)”指出,通过为青少年制定一个他们喜欢做的日常家务的计划,来实施该计划,从而教授和培养孩子们的责任,符合语境。故选D。 40.根据本段段旨“Show them the love(向他们展示爱)”以及空后“When teenagers know adults are emotionally (情感上) available to support them, a welcome change in their behaviour may be seen.(当青少年知道成年人在情感上可以支持他们时,他们的行为可能会出现可喜的变化。)” E选项“However, they need to know that adults love them, care for them and respect them(然而,他们需要知道成年人爱他们,关心他们,尊重他们)”引起下文 ,指出成年人应该向他们展示爱,展示关心和尊重他们,这样能够让他们出现可喜的变化,与下文呼应。 After my graduation from college, I was always worried about my financial (财务的) situation. In the middle of the first term, the entire seventh grade was tested for basic skills. Steve hurried through his tests, and continued to dream of other things, as the day passed slowly. One day, Miss White’s impatient voice broke into his daydreams. “Steve!” Startled(吓了一跳), he turned to look at her. “Pay attention!” She began to go over the test results. “You all did pretty well,” she told the class, “except for one boy, and it breaks my heart to tell you this, but...” She hesitated, pinning Steve to his seat with a sharp stare. “The smartest boy in the seventh grade is failing my class!” After that, Steve still couldn’t do his homework. “Just try it,” Miss White said one day. “Steve! Please! I care about you!” Wow! Suddenly, Steve got it! Someone cared about him? Someone, so beautiful and perfect, cared about him?!
