National Parks are the best places to see raw nature in protected areas, where the wildlife is free and the history is kept alive properly, such is the case of all national parks in Australia.
The Booderee National Park
It offers a protected habitat (栖息地) for native wildlife against high cliffs and white beaches. While summer is good for visiting due to the excellent weather, a special event takes place in June and July when whales come back with their babies. Educational tours are fit for school groups to get close to nature. There are a range of activities such as camping, diving and nature walks.
The Norfolk Island National Park
The history of the Park is eye-catching, so you might want to check out how Captain James Cook got here and why. You can picnic and have a nice barbecue around the highest point on the island, Mount Bates. Another tourist attraction is Phillip Island, six kilometers away from Norfolk, home to many seabirds.
The Uluru National Park
If you’re into learning more about Aboriginals (土著居民) and their influence on the world, you mustn’t miss it, where Tjukurpa stories come from about native songs and dances. The rocks here are extremely loved because they seem to change color during sunrise and sunset. So the spot is also great for walking, considering the knowledge and stories on the rocks’ shapes and purpose for humans.
The Kakadu National Park
It has the longest historical records of Aboriginal people living there, which have been carved in the rock art made by Indigenous civilizations over the years. The Park has remarkable rivers and floodplains that go through the rich ecosystem. With more than 280 species of birds, 117 reptile species and 74 mammals, the park is a joy to the eye of the traveler.
21. What makes the Booderee National Park special?
A. Whales’ return. B. Nature walks. C. Wildlife habitat. D. Educational tours.
22. Where can you learn about Captain James Cook?
A. The Uluru National Park. B. The Kakadu National Park.
C. The Booderee National Park. D. The Norfolk Island National Park.
23. What do the Uluru National Park and the Kakadu National Park have in common?
A. Rock colors. B. Rock shapes. C. Native culture. D. Rich wildlife.

Cows love having an open area of grassland. But in some parts of the world, this is only feasible during the summer. In the winter months, it can become too cold for cows to safely stay outside, so they are kept in a large farm building for warmth. Being kept inside is not always enjoyable for the cows, and their unhappiness is closely connected to less milk production.
For this reason, some cow owners have fitted their cows with VR headsets that run a program specially. The program simulates (模 拟) grassland in summer and was designed for the way that cows get color and light. According to the National Library of Medicine, cows see red most easily but have a hard time telling the difference between blue and green.
Reports from a farm in Moscow, Russia — where the VR headsets were first developed by vets — found in 2019 that the cows that used the VR headsets saw a decrease in anxiety and an improved mood. This led to an increase in milk production, which went from 5.8 gallons to 7 gallons a day.
The cow owner Izzet Kocak from Aksaray, Turkey, heard about this experiment and tried the VR headsets on his cows in December 2021. When Kocak put the headsets on his cows, he found an improvement in the moods of his animals. “They are watching an area of grassland, and it helps lift their spirits. They are less stressed,” he said.
The technology is now being used around the world. According to the BBC, the headsets were made specifically for the“ structural features of cow heads” by vets, and the animals were shown a “unique summer field simulation program”. The familiar sight of an area of grassland is enough to improve the mood of the animals
Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation says that research has shown a connection between a cow’s mood and its milk production. They said, “Examples of dairy farms from different countries show that in a calm atmosphere, the amount of milk increases greatly.”
24. What does the underlined word “feasible” probably mean in Paragraph 1?
A. Influential. B. Possible.
C. Necessary. D. Meaningful.
25. What’s the result of cows wearing the VR headsets?
A. They could tell the difference between blue and green.
B. Their milk production rose accordingly.
C. Their physical health improved greatly.
D. They could adapt to winter easily.
26. What’s Izzet Kocak’s possible attitude towards the VR headsets?
A. Satisfied. B. Opposed.
C. Indifferent. D. Concerned.
27. What concept is behind the VR headset program?
A. High tech is necessary in the dairy field.
B. A silent environment helps cows stay healthy.
C. Natural grassland is better for the milk quality.
D. A cow with good moods can produce more milk.

When you think about who’s responsible for a city’s safety, what people come to mind? Police officers, firefighters or emergency response teams? Would you put your local meteorologist (气象预报员) in this group? That’s the career Ashley Ruiz chose, and she’s now the first female chief meteorologist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ruiz predicts the weather for her community.
In 2020, a tornado hit Ruiz’s hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee — and, even closer to home, her house. So she said she knew what a lifesaving job this could be.
However, her job isn’t without difficulties. “Hearing people have been injured, like in a big hurricane, is really hard,” she said. “We try our best to predict the weather as best as we can, and we are getting better. But it can always change.”
Ruiz talked about the new and changing weather patterns. She said, “We are absolutely seeing changes in weather, with more intense and more frequent storms, which relate to climate change.” Weather is changing everywhere, as the planet warms. There are more frequent droughts, stronger storms, and increasing temperature changes. This makes predicting the weather difficult.
Ruiz always knew she was interested in weather and how it affected the world. But her path to a career in meteorology wasn’t easy. She said, “I struggled so hard with math and wanted to give up. But I kept pushing and working hard, and now I’m the first woman chief meteorologist in the Baton Rouge TV market. I’m proud of that.” She wants kids to know they should never give up on their education or their dreams.
28. Why was the disaster in Ruiz’s hometown mentioned in the text?
A. To call on people to prepare for disasters.
B. To introduce Ruiz’s unusual childhood experience.
C. To offer a successful example of weather forecast.
D. To show Ruiz’s understanding of the work of a meteorologist.
29. What is a challenge of predicting the weather according to the text?
A. Climate change. B. People’s injury.
C. Poor technology. D. Lack of experience.
30. Which word can best describe Ruiz according to the last paragraph?
A. Creative. B. Clever. C. Hard-working. D. World-famous.
31. In which section of a newspaper may the text appear?
A. Sports. B. People. C. Education. D. Health.
D
London-based startup Brilliant Planet has rented 6,100 hectares of land in southern Morocco, situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara. And it’s using it to grow algae (藻类), which absorbs atmospheric carbon dioxide and sends out oxygen.
Brilliant Planet’s CEO Adam Taylor says the company has developed a way to grow algae at extreme rates starting in a glass cup in a lab and ending in 12,000- square- meter pools of locally- sourced seawater. The algae is obtained from the water then pumped up a 10- story tower and sprayed into the desert air. In the 30 seconds or so it takes to reach the ground, hot air dries the biomass (生物质) out, leaving hypersaline (超盐的) algae pieces which can be collected and shallow buried, sequestering (使隔绝) their carbon for thousands of years.
“Nature-based solutions are a great way of removing carbon,” Taylor said. “Deserts are an underused environment. It does not cost a lot of money to rent the desert. What’s more, you’re not competing with farms or forests. You’re out of the way, not bothering people. ”
Taylor claims that Brilliant Planet’s solution can permanently remove 30 times more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere per hectare per year than a typical European forest. Brilliant Planet’s goal is to remove one million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year by the end of the decade.“Globally, we’ve identified about half a million square kilometers of flat desert- ocean land where it works,” Taylor said, adding that the company hopes to set up in Namibia next.
Fatna Ikrame El Fanne, an environmental engineer, described the use of algae as “a new and promising strategy” that “is a typical example of innovative use of natural process to address an urgent global issue. ” Nevertheless, she expressed caution. “Microalgae production on a large scale might damage local ecosystems, lead to overuse of water resources, and change habitats,” she said.
There’s an acknowledgement that one company can’t do it all — and can’t go it alone. “We are part of a group of probably 40 to 50 wonderful ideas of how people can remove carbon from the atmosphere,” Taylor said, calling for “a Manhattan Project- type attitude” to tackling carbon capture. Whether algae is the solution the world needs remains to be seen. But the idea’s growing on people.
32. What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us about Brilliant Planet?
A. Its establishment of an algae plant.
B. Its method of growing algae.
C. Its process of carbon capture.
D. Its daily routine in the desert.
33. What advantage did Taylor highlight about using deserts for carbon removal?
A. Huge profits.
B. High temperature.
C. No occupation of rich land.
D. No biodiversity concerns.
34. What can be inferred about the use of algae from El Fanne’s words?
A. It needs improving.
B. It is highly efficient.
C. It is not worth promoting.
D. It is commercially developed.
35. Why is “a Manhattan Project- type attitude” mentioned in the last paragraph?
A. To highlight the challenges of carbon removal.
B. To recognize the contributions of Brilliant Planet.
C. To prove the effectiveness of nature- based solutions.
D. To emphasize the necessity of joint efforts.

With one and half years of senior school to go, you’re probably experiencing a mix of emotions: excitement about what the future holds, and maybe anxiety about how to handle the coming exams. Don’t worry! Here are a few things that will help you get through the rest of your senior school.
36 This means setting up a system that works for you to keep track of important dates, assignments, and deadlines. This can be as simple as using a planner. In this way, you can stay on top of your work and avoid any last- minute hurry.
Manage your time wisely. Learn to balance your academic tasks with extracurricular and social activities. 37 For example, you might dedicate Mondays to Thursdays to homework, Fridays to extracurricular activities, and Saturdays to sports and hanging out with friends. Whatever system you choose, just ensure it works for you and helps you stay on track.
Keep your grades up. Letting your grades slip during the senior year can be easy. To avoid this, create a study schedule that allows you to focus on one subject at a time. Meanwhile, do ask for help from your teachers and parents if you’re struggling with a particular concept. 38
Set goals, not time limits. Most people set time limits on their goals, such as “I’ll finish reviewing this book by Friday!” or something like that. 39 So just focus on the goal, not the timeframe. For example, rather than saying you’ll finish reviewing one book by Friday, focus on what you need to do to make that happen.
Embrace your passions and start exploring potential careers. Think about what subjects you enjoy most and what courses you’re passionate about. From there, research potential careers that are in line with your interests. 40 The more you know about a particular career, the better equipped you’ll be to decide your future.
A. Give back.
B. Get organized.
C. Step outside your comfort zone and try new things.
D. They are there to support you and want you to succeed.
E. It’s a good idea to set specific days or hours for each task.
F. And reach out to people in those fields for advice and guidance.
G. Putting pressure on yourself to meet these deadlines can be stressful.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Dolly was my 9-year-old sister. She was mother’s favourite, always doing what she was told and never placing a foot wrong. Sometimes I didn’t like her. But she was my younger sister. I couldn’t do anything about it. And on the whole she wasn’t that bad.
Two weeks ago, on her birthday, I gave her a goldfish as a present. She loved it, named it Peppy and watched it swim freely in the glass container every day after school. She really enjoyed the delight the little angel brought. But recently I found the goldfish a little listless, staying at the bottom of the container most of the time.
One day after lunch, Dolly looked up at Mum and said,“Mum, I want to go to the lake. We go there on Sundays.”
“We can’t go today, dear. I have something else to do.” Mother said as she walked towards her and took the bowl away. Dolly looked a little unhappy, with eyebrows frowned.
“Shama,” Suddenly, Dolly whispered to me, leaning as close to me as her small frame would allow her while still sitting on the chair. “Would you come with me?”
I felt hesitant, but her unfamiliar stubbornness made me curious. What did she want to do at the lake? Still for the red fish? There was red fish in the lake. She had seen some coming to the shore every Sunday.
“Are you sure? Mom will be mad if we get caught.”
“We’ll come back in time before mom knows it.” Dolly gave a mischievous(调皮的) smile and slid out of her chair. I followed her out of the kitchen and came to the front door. Luckily, it didn’t lock. But as soon as we got ready to force out of the door, Dolly turned back and ran into the house again. I couldn’t shout out her name for fear that Mum could hear me but waited nervously.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

W: Of course not. I think you looked a little strange but cute.
M: Oh, dear. Next time I hope you can teach me beforehand. I still don’t understand what the right thing is.
W: Well, in my hometown, the seniors are the most respected people. Whatever we do, the seniors do first.
M: Like yesterday, I should have waited until they all sat down?
W: Definitely.
M: But when they asked me to drink, I did exactly what they said. Why was I wrong, either?
W: Well, when you’re offered a drink or dish, you should say no first. When they ask again, you can say yes.

18. What does the speaker think of London’s public transport?
A. Terrible. B. Expensive. C. Acceptable.
19. What can we learn from the talk?
A. Londoners drink more tea than coffee.
B. London is surely full of different cultures.

20. What do Londoners complain about?
A. The living expenses. B. The food in London. C. The crowded communities.
【答案】18. C 19. B 20. A
【原文】M: Whenever I tell people that I grew up in London, I am usually greeted with excitement. Now I hope to show you a Londoner’s perspective of what London is really like.
Public transport is not as terrible as we say it is. I only learnt to appreciate how accessible and affordable London’s public transport system is when I moved to Scotland for university.
For a nation of tea-lovers, you’d be surprised to know that we actually consume more coffee than we do tea! It’s important to note that drinking tea is not as elegant as you may think. Tea is a very quick and easy drink to make and is usually made within five minutes. London is definitely a melting pot of culture. It is infused with so many different cultural flavors through food, performance and language. Did you know that there are over 300 languages spoken in London? There are many different communities which all contribute to the London culture: Chinatown in central London and an equally big Caribbean community in Notting Hill. Although we Londoners complain about the cost of living, bad weather and poor public transport, deep down in our hearts, London is our unique home.

A. Sports. B. People. C. Education. D. Health.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A moment later she came back, holding something in her hand.____________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Half an hour later, we arrived at the lake.______________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【参考答案】
A moment later she came back, holding something in her hand. It was the goldfish bowl. Dolly’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she held the bowl tightly. “Peppy is going to have a new home!” she exclaimed joyfully. The goldfish swam lazily inside, but Dolly seemed convinced it would thrive in the lake. So she, accompanied by me, walked to the lake decidedly.
Half an hour later, we arrived at the lake. Dolly carefully carried the bowl to the shore and set it down. She scooped up some water from the lake and gently poured it into the bowl. Then, with a determined look, she tilted the bowl, allowing the little goldfish to swim into its new freedom. Peppy darted off, joining the other fish in the lake. Dolly and I watched silently, smiling, as we knew we had given Peppy a chance to live its best life.
大声说:exclaim/said with a high voice/shout
相信:convince/believe firmly/hold a firm belief
陪伴:accompany/keep sb. company
情绪类:
激动:excitement/thrill/agitation
高兴地:joyfully/happily /with joy
坚定地:decidedly/determinedly
【点睛】【高分句型1】
Then, with a determined look, she tilted the bowl, allowing the little goldfish to swim into its new freedom.(运用了现在分词作状语。)
【高分句型2】
Dolly and I watched silently, smiling, as we knew we had given Peppy a chance to live its best life.(运用了现在分词作状语和as引导原因状语从句。)
