XB Unit2 developing ideas 学案 Three Days to See Activity 1. Read the passage quickly and answer the questions. 1、 What is the genre of the passage? A. Narrative (记叙文) B. Essay (散文) C. Argumentative writing (议论文) 2、The structure of the passage Many people without a disability are not appreciative of what they have P 1、2、3 What Helen should do during the given three days P 7 P 5 P 6 P 4 Give one hint to people without a disability P 8 Activity 2 Read for genre and structure 1、Skim the passage and choose the author’s purpose in writing the passage and give your reasons. 1 To help readers understand what it is like to be blind. 2 To make readers without disabilities appreciate what they have. 3 To persuade readers to care about the blind. reasons:At the start of the passage, the author said it would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days at some time during his early adult life. Darkness would make him more appreciative of sight; silence would teach him the joys of sound. 2、Read the passage and find out what the author would do if she could see. Use keywords to summarize. Days What would Helen do? Day 1 see the kind people; see the enlightening books; intoxicate her eyes on the beauty of nature Day 2 see a display of the progress of civilization; go to the museums; enjoy theater or movies Day 3 observe people in their day-to-day life Activity 4 Read the passage again and finish the following question Use your eyes as if tomorrow you would be stricken blind. And the same method can be applied to the other senses. Hear the music of voices, the song of a bird, the mighty strains of an orchestra, as if you would be stricken deaf tomorrow. Touch each object you want to touch as if tomorrow your tactile sense would fail. Smell the perfume of flowers, taste with relish each morsel, as if tomorrow you could never smell and taste again. But of all the senses, I am sure that sight must be the most delightful. What sentence structure is used repeatedly? What figure of speech (修辞) is it? Parallelism How does this technique help to express the author’s emotions? The use of parallelism in speech or writing allows speakers or writers to maintain a consistency within their work and creates a balanced flow of ideas. Moreover, parallelism can be used as a tool for persuasion. If you must give up one sense, which one would you choose? Why? taste hearing smell touch (tactile sense) sight(vision) Activity 6 课文语法填空 Para. 1 1、突然失明失聪 2、对……欣赏、感激 be stricken blind and deaf be appreciative of Para. 2-3 1、 偶尔 2、 特别地;尤其 3、 值得关注 4、 被……揭示 5、 譬如;比方说 6、 温柔与陪伴 7、 值得过 8、 脸的轮廓 9、 使我的双眼陶醉于…… now and then in particular be worthy of note be revealed by say for … gentleness and companionship be worth living the outline of a face intoxicate my eyes on… Para. 5-8 1、 调查;探究 2、 渴望做 3、 迎接黎明 4、 平淡无奇的世界 5、 做着日常的事情 6、 逼近;围住 7、 降临;突然到达 8、 给……一个忠告/提示 9、 将……应用于 probe into be anxious to do greet the dawn the workaday world go about one’s business close in on descend on / upon give one hint to sb apply … to … 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
