One simple self-confidence builder is 23 self-talk.What you say to yourself 24

can do something can increase your chance of success. If you put in the work to learn how to do
something, believe in your ability.Don't let27steal your energy and motivation away.
One of the ugliest enemies of self-confidence is28 yourself to others.Thinking that you are
better than other people won't give you confidence.29,it will make you proud. And thinking you
are worse than others won't make you30;it will fill you with envy.Fight back by counting
your blessings.Keep a journal and write down all the things that you're31for.
Facing your fears is another way to build self-confidence.You might have a(n)32 for public
speaking. But how will you know if you never overcome your fears and try it?Even if you fail, leaving
2/8
your33
zone can make you stronger.Don't let fear become an obstacle in your journey toward
excellence!

False medical news can lead to patients'experiencing greater side effects through the "nocebo effect
(反安慰剂效果)".Sometimes patients benefit from an intervention simply because they believe they will--
-that's the placebo effect. The nocebo effect is the opposite:Patients can experience negative effects just
5/8
because they expect them. This is very true of statins. In blinded trials, patients who get statins are no
more likely to report feeling muscle aches than patients who get a placebo.Yet,in clinical practice.
according to one study, almost a fifth of patients taking statins report side effects, leading many to
discontinue the drugs.
What else is on the fake news hit list?As always, vaccines.False concerns that the vaccine for the
virus called human papilloma virus causes seizures (and other side effects reduced coverage rates in
Japan from 10 percent to less than I percent in recent years.
Cancer is another big target for pushers of medical misinformation-many of whom are making
money off alternative therapies."Though most people think cancer tumors are bad, they're actually the
way your body attempts to contain the harmful cells,"one fake news story reads. It suggests that surgery
increases the risk of spreading harmful cells.
Silicon Valley needs to own this problem. When human health is at risk, perhaps search engines,
social media platforms and websites should be held responsible for promoting or hosting fake information.
The scientific community needs to do its part to educate the public about key concepts in research, such as
the difference between observational studies and higher quality randomized trials.
Finally, journalists can do a better job of spreading accurate information.News sites are more likely
to cover catchy observational studies than randomized controlled trials, perhaps because the latter are less
likely to produce surprising results.Such coverage can overstate benefits, claiming for example, that
statins could cure cancer:it can unduly emphasize potential risks, such as suggesting a misleading
connection with dementia,a serious mental disorder.
43.What does the writer imply about the side effects of statins?
A.They don't really exist.
B.They aren't like those of placebos.
C.They are common in certain patients.
D.They disappear very soon.
44.Which statement is the writer most likely to agree with?
A.Journalists should be objective while reporting medical news.
B.Silicon Valley ought to take the blame for the fake medicine.
C.The scientific community ought to involve the public in research.
D.The public should put more trust in news coverage.
45.The word"unduly"in the last paragraph most probably means.
A.overly B.on a small scale
C.as likely as not
D.universally
46.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To encourage journalists to report more positive news events.
B.To warn readers against fake medical news on the Internet.
C.To tell readers what role the"nocebo effect"plays in treating disease.
D.To teach readers how to distinguish truths from fake news.
Section C(8分)】

A.Connect the dots between college majors and careers.
B.Yet,having at least a few ideas in mind for careers that might interest you is an
important part of college planning.
C.Begin with your current interests, talents, hobbies, and personal strengths and
weaknesses.
D.They help students choose majors and careers, find internship and job
opportunities,and gain important job-hunting skills.
E.Enrichment activities, such as summer programs on college campuses, can also help
you learn about various jobs and careers.
F.Start by talking to the adults you know about their jobs.
Getting into Employment in High School
Many high school students are understandably more focused on getting into college than on finding a
job after college.47Here are some things you can do now-while you're still in high school-to
start thinking about possible careers.
Do some homework on jobs and careers.
There are many types of jobs and careers that most people have never heard of or know little about.
How do you discover them?48 How did they get interested in their career? What education and
skills are required to perform their jobs? What do they like about their careers?Don't be shy:adults are
usually happy to answer questions. You can also learn about various careers online.
49
Although your college major does not always determine what you'll end up doing for a career,
understanding how various majors can connect to careers is part of career planning. As you explore the
majors and programs offered at various colleges, take a moment to read through the relevant department's
information on careers for students in that major.
Keep career planning in mind when visiting colleges.
Every college campus has a Career Center, staffed by professionals who are trained to assist college
students with career-related concerns.50 Make a point to ask about the services offered by
each college's Career Center when you visit colleges.Or better yet, stop in to the Center and say hello.
While on campus, you will also have opportunities to talk with professors and students.Use those
occasions to ask faculty about what their departments do to help prepare students for jobs after graduation,
and ask current students about internships they've done, research opportunities, and what their majors and
career plans are.

IV.Summary Writing (10)
Directions:Read the following passage.Summarize the main idea and the main point(s)
of the passage in no more than 60 words.Use your own words as far as possible.
51.
These days our society develops rapidly and forces people to rush.It appears that people have got
used to being in a hurry. However,it is better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower
pace than to hurry to get things done.
The main reason that convinces us to oppose doing work in a hurry is the possibility of doing wrongs
in a rush. When people do their jobs or take actions in a hurry, they cannot make a sound decision and
probably regret later. As the saying goes,"Haste makes waste."We should think carefully before making a
decision and do our work less quickly. We should not make mistakes by doing work hurriedly.
Slowing down the pace of life helps people enjoy their life better. For example, taking a train to some
place certainly will take more time than taking a plane. However, taking a train makes people have enough
time to get to know a lot of new friends.Besides,it allows people to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery
along the way.On the contrary, being in a hurry will make us lose chances in enjoying our life
Finally, slower life pace provides better healthy conditions for us.As is known to all, taking actions
in a hurry bothers people and raises their stress.People think if they are not in a hurry, they will become a
loser and that annoys them.Being in a hurry can hurt people both physically and mentally.According to
some studies, people who have a slower pace suffer fewer diseases, tend to be happier and live much
longer than those whose life is tense, even if the former finish jobs more slowly than t5he latter.
In short, working quickly will bring about more material benefits to make our society more advanced.
However, much stress can't bring enjoyment, friends and health, which are much more important than
money and other material advantages. Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace.
