五、Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warming-up (5 minutes)

T: Hello, everyone! How are you today? Do you like birthdays?
S: Yes!
T: What do you usually do on your birthday?
S1: I have a birthday cake and get presents.
S2: I play games with my friends.
2. Show some pictures of birthday parties and ask students to describe them.
T: Look at these pictures. What can you see?
S: We can see cakes, balloons, and people having fun.
Step 2: Pre-reading (5 minutes)
1. Present the questions in Activity 1 and have students think about their answers.
T: Now, let's look at these two questions. What do you want for your birthday? And when are your parents' birthdays? What do you want to do for them? Please think about it for a minute.
2. Have some students share their answers.
S1: I want a new bike for my birthday.
S2: My parents' birthdays are in May. I want to make a card for them.
Step 3: While-reading (15 minutes)
1. First reading
Students read the passage silently and try to answer the question: Who is having a birthday party?
Check the answer: Grandma is having a birthday party.
2. Second reading
Students read the passage again and write the names of the family members.
Have students share their answers on the blackboard. (Mother, Aunt Jane, Grandpa, Uncle, Father, Brother, Sister, Cousin)
3. Third reading
Students read the passage carefully and answer the following questions:
What is the special gift for Grandma?
What are the family members doing at the party?
Have students discuss the questions in pairs and then share their answers.

look - looking
make - making
write - writing
run - running
swim - swimming
