The Global Food Donation Policy Atlas has issued a recent report in order to recommend
ways to increase food donations, reduce food waste, and fight hunger, which may hel
Kenyan leaders meet 2o3o food waste reduetion goals.
Food donation can reroute eatable food-that would otherwise give off greenhouse gasses
in a lnndfill-to those experiencing hunger. According to the Famine Early Warning Systems
Network, 3. 5 milion Kenyans, roughly 37 percent of the population, faee severe hunger. At
the same time, the Poliey Atls reports roughly 40 percent of food produeed within Kenya
goes to waste. Rut Rroad Leih, Deputy Director of Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy
Clinic(FL.PC), sees aome promising changes. "While progress is not happening as quickly as
needed, Kenya's food loss index has been steadily(步地) reduced from I.744 metric tons in
2017.to 1.53l in 201B, to 1,446 metric tons in 20l9, indicating a steady improvement and
national commitment to food loss reduction." reports Broad Leib.
According to the Poliey Atlas, motivating food donation with rewards is particularly
important, which helps food donors and food recovery organizations make up for costs
necessary for recovery, storing, processing, and transporting food for donation.
"A major driver of food waste is inconsistent or unclear date labels that cause confusion
among all actors along the value chain and limit the ability of businesses to donate food. This
increases the likelihood that much safe food will go to waste," Broad Leib tells Food Tank.
However, he acknowledges Kenya's curent dual(双的) date labeling laws. While food may
lose its freshness over time, it is still edible before expiratinn(到期). Dual date abcling on
packaged foods reduces cunfusion by defining dates for both safety and quality, This helps
reduce considerahle waste and responsihility for donors.
Broad Leib believes that the private secor can also play a significant role in decreasing
food waste in Kenya. It is vital for consumcr education campaigns. FL.PC's rescarch shows
that public-private initiativea can help raise awareness among consumers and donors around
issues of food waste and food donation.
32. What changes does Broad I.cib see?
A. Kenyn has grndunlly reduced its food waste.
B. People in Kenya no longer sufer hunger.
C. Progress in redacing food waste is happening quickly.
D. Kenya is not committed to reducing food loss.
3. What does the underlined word *edible" men in Paragraph 4?
A. Convenient.
B. Deliciaus.
C. Affordahle.
D. Eatahle.

34. How can Kenya reduce food waste aceording to Broad Lrib?
A. By fighting hunger with rewards.
B. By increasing storehouses.
C. By using double date laheling on packuged food.
D. By reducing food produced within the country.
35. What can we learn fron the Inxt paragraph?
A. Consumer education campaigns are the most important.
B. Private and puhlie joint efforts matter around food issues.
C. Broad Leib doesn't agree with FL.PC on food waate reduetion
D. Only the private sector is helpful in reducing food waste.
