Together, they have collected more than 1 ton of aluminum cans, nearly 1,000 cans a week for a year. In January, he co-founded a club called the Cleanup Kids with his best friend. The project’s mission: to encourage kids to pick up 1 million pounds of trash across the globe before the end of the year. Daniels says he first developed a passion for wildlife when he was 3. “As far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved animals,” Daniels says. Marine life especially interests him. When he began discovering trash on walks along the river with his family, he immediately thought of his favorite sea creatures. His mission now is saving the earth’s rivers, which he points out are even more polluted than the world’s oceans. “Eighty percent of the ocean’s trash comes from rivers,” he says. In 2019, he adopted the name Conservation Kid on Instagram, and started posting about things like how something as simple as a deserted face mask can entangle (缠住), choke, and kill turtles, birds, and fish. Mask waste has increased an estimated 9,000% since the pandemic(疫情) began. Although he mostly speaks to other teens, Daniels has found that adults are often persuaded by his argument that cleaning up, recycling, and ridding plastic ought to be a selfish act for humanity: when plastics break down, they can wind up in our drinking water. He has met with the mayor of his city, and his experiences speaking with influential grownups has convinced him that adults can change their habits. But, in truth, the burden to save the planet has landed on children like him. “Kids may be a small percent of the population, but we’re 100% of the future,” he says. “And we can save the world.” 4. What led to the birth of Daniel’s project? A. The inspiration from his best friend. B. The goal to make a role model for kids. C. The concern for the ocean life. D. The idea of other teen environmentalists. 5. Which can be inferred from paragraph 3? A. The ocean’s trash has grown rapidly. B. The river pollution requires less attention. C. Many animals are infected in the pandemic. D. River waste contributes most to the ocean’s trash. 6. Which of the following can best describe Money Daniels? A. Optimistic and creative. B. Caring and responsible. C. Considerate and generous. D. Courageous and devoted. 7. What is the passage mainly about? A. Grownups’ selfish behaviors for humanity. B. A teenager’s contributions to saving the waters. C. A youngster’s responsibility to protect the world. D Teen environmentalists’ efforts to clean the oceans. C For 85 years, the Harvard Study of Adult Development has tracked an original group of 724 men and more than 1,300 of their male and female descendants (后代) over three generations, asking thousands of questions and taking hundreds of measurements to find out what really keeps people healthy and happy. Through all the years of studying these lives, one crucial factor stands out for the consistency and power of its bond to physical health, mental health and longevity: good relationships. In 2008, researchers telephoned the wives and husbands of Harvard Study couples in their 80s every night for eight nights. Researchers spoke to each partner separately and asked them a series of questions about their days. On days when these men and women spent more time in the company of others, they were happier. Like most older people, those in the Harvard Study experienced day-to-day rises and falls in their levels of physical pain and health difficulties. But researchers found that the people who were in more satisfying relationships were cushioned (缓冲) somewhat from these ups and downs of mood—their happiness did not decline as much on the days when they had more pain. Simply put, their happy marriages seemed to have a protective effect. Elizabeth Gillespie, a therapist of couples, stated that although most of us found that our experience of relationships might be hard, and at times, impossible, it is essential to our well-being. Today we live in much more complicated environments, so meeting our social needs presents different challenges. We might be sitting on a gold mine of vitality that we are not paying attention to, because it is hidden by the shiny appeal of smartphones or pushed to the side by work demands. 8. What’s the purpose of the Harvard Study of Adult Development? A. To study their lives over three generations. B. To reveal the secret to health and well-being. C. To track the descendants of an original group. D. To study the relationship between health and happiness. 9. How did the researchers carry out the study? A. By working with other researchers. B. By tracking specific groups of people. C. By helping participants with social difficulties. D. By comparing the results from different people. 10. Why did the author mention the examples in Paragraph 4? A. To provide evidence for the bond of health and longevity. B. To introduce the concept of physical pain and health difficulties. C. To show the negative impact of unhappy marriages on older people’s mood. D. To support the positive impact of satisfying relationships on people’s lives. 11. According to Elizabeth Gillespie, what is essential to our well-being? A. Having good social connections. B. Declining pains and difficulties. C. Overcoming ups and downs of mood. D. Experiencing rises and falls of physical health. D A team of conservationists (环境保护主义者) captured 14 Loa water frogs earlier this month in northern Chile, a wildlife group reported. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the Loa water frog as “critically endangered”. The not-for-profit Global Wildlife Conservation group said the 14 frogs were in poor condition when they were discovered in late June. The animals were small and struggling because of a lack of food and water. The Loa water frogs are known to live only in a single body of water near Calama, in Chile. The city sits in the middle of the Atacama Desert, where water is in great demand. There was little water in the area where the frogs were found, the conservation group reported. The frogs’ environment had mostly dried up because water is being taken away and used for human activities, the group said. The activities include mining (矿业), agriculture and land development. “All of the frogs had been pushed into a tiny pool of muddy water,” the organization said. “The team collected the last 14 individuals and brought them to the National Zoo of Chile to start a conservation breeding (繁殖) program.” Zoo specialists are closely watching the small creatures and trying to give them everything they need to survive and be healthy. Conservation groups have called on Chile’s government to take steps to halt any illegal water usage that threatens the frogs’ natural environment. They would also like to see creation of a government-supported shelter to protect the animals. Jon Paul Rodriguez heads the IUCN’s Species Survival Commission. He suggested that an emergency plan be developed to prepare the Calama area for the frogs’ return. “We need to work very hard to restore their environment because it’s pointless to breed them if they don’t have a home to go back to in the wild,” Rodriguez said. 12. What do we know about the frogs when they were rescued? A. They were looking for food. B. They were in good condition. C. They were approaching death. D. They were moving for new water source. 13. What has made these frogs endangered? A. Lack of water. B. Air pollution. C. Human hunting. D. Extreme climate. 14. What does the underlined word “halt” in Paragraph 5 mean? A. Improve. B. Add. C. Change. D. Stop. 15. What did Jon Paul Rodriguez suggest humans do for these frogs? A. Keep them healthy. B. Recover their home. C. Raise them in the shelter. D. Prevent them living in the wild. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to calm your teen A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not uncommon. It seemed that they didn’t feel like making any new connections with others, including their next-door neighbours. The neighborhood kids nicknamed the strange old couple Crazy Jack and Ruby Rednose. Rumor (流言,传言) was that they sat inside and drank tea all day. The only words we ever heard from them were “Keep out of our rosebushes!” The rosebushes crawled along the fence. Or rather, they served as a fence between our house and theirs, overgrowing the support. I was eleven at the time and the oldest of our family girls. A suitable playing court was a headache problem for us when we felt like playing softball games, which was our favourite sport then. We should have played our softball games elsewhere to avoid hurting the roses, but we secretly enjoyed annoying Crazy Jack and Ruby Rednose. One day, we had a softball game in our yard. Mary was trying to catch a fly ball. She stumbled (绊倒) over one of Ruby Rednose’s rosebushes and fell on top of several more. Just at that moment, Ruby Rednose sprang out and ran toward Mary. She screamed angrily, “Look at what you’ve doneto our family’s roses! You’ve always been a trouble. You have no idea what this rosebush means to me!” Hearing this, my sisters and I ran into our house. Breathlessly, we told Mom what had happened. “Girls, I have told you not to play softball near those bushes. Come outside right now and help me fix them.” “Mom, we thought you didn’t like the couple,” we protested. “They’re mean to us.” Mom just glared at us. We followed her outside to help repair the rose fence. While Mom was examining the damaged roses, Ruby slowly walked out. She looked sad. And it wasn’t her nose that was red, but her eyes. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150字左右。2. 请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Ruby walked over to my mother, we girls holding our breath. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: A few weeks later, the plants all came back to life. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2024-2025学年度上学期期中考试高一年级英语科试卷 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1.
