阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Shakespeare and Company in Paris, founded by George Whitman in 1951, stands as one of the world’s most famous bookstores. Here is a guide for visiting the bookstore.
Tumbleweeds (风滚草)
The main reason why this bookstore is so famous is due to its Tumble weeding. George had been a traveller and floated like a “tumbleweed” until he moved to Paris to become a bookseller. He wanted to honour those who hosted him throughout his travels. So George would invite ambitious writers into the store as “Tumbleweeds”. They had to help around, read a book a day and write a short autobiography about themselves in exchange for a place to stay in the bookstore. This is still a tradition they uphold today.
The different sections
This bookshop is like a labyrinth (迷宫) with various sections for fiction, non-fiction, history, art, etc. Despite the crowds on the bottom floor, there are lots of quiet small areas to relax on the upper floor. You’ll find a desk area here where you can write your own mini autobiography to stick on the wall. There are seats overlooking Notre Dame and someone is even playing a piano.
Opening time
It’s open from Mondays to Saturdays 10 a. m. to 8 p. m. and Sundays 12 p. m. to 7 p. m. If you want to avoid long queues, you can visit during the week and get here just before opening time.
Top tips for visiting
You can access the bookstore with a wheelchair.
Don’t bring large bags. They won’t let you in with large bags or suitcases.
You can’t take photos inside. There are signs everywhere that you shouldn’t take photos.
1. What is the primary reason for Shakespeare and Company’s fame?
A. Its long history. B. Its wide range of books.
C. Its founder’s personality. D. Its tradition to invite writers.
2. When can people visit the bookstore?
A. At 8 p. m. on Sunday. B. At 11 a. m. on Tuesday.
C. At 9 p. m. on Friday. D. At 7 a. m. on Saturday.
3. What is prohibited in the bookstore?
A. Taking pictures. B. Getting around by wheelchair.
C. Bringing purses. D. Sticking your stories on the wall.

I often wake up to my alarm after a short night and step out of bed to a day I’ve fought through countless times. I rush my morning routine and run to my car. My radio switches to my favorite song, but I have to listen to an audible (可听的) book for an assignment due tomorrow.
When I get to school, I start with Spanish, my hardest class. Despite being around all year, I have no clue what’s going on. I then walk to my English class, in which I was stuck in the language rules. The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night.
This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disorder in reading and spelling: assignments that take three times as long as they’re meant to, late nights and early mornings to even slightly keep up with my classes.
I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class. But here, I am in my element. Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged. Yes, my passion for history heightens my focus, but my teacher’s willingness to work with me is what allows me to fly high.
Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible. I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work. A fix for that is as simple as providing alternative resources: a slide show students can go back to after class, or perhaps even an activity that further plays with the concepts.
Now many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won’t be stuck into academic tracks that don’t push them to their full potential.
4. Why does the author have to do his homework late at night?
A He is assigned extra homework. B. He fails to manage his spare time.
C. He needs time to do it well enough. D. He dislikes tasks related to languages.
5. What does the underlined part “in my element” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Burning the midnight oil. B. Biting off more than I can chew.
C. Feeling like a fish in water. D. Having butterflies in my stomach.
6. What does the author think of lecture-based classes?
A. Satisfying. B. Inspiring. C. Rewarding. D. Demanding.
7. What does the author advise schools to do for students?
A. Offer classes with alternatives. B. Ask educational experts to give lectures.
C. Advocate out-of-class activities. D. Get teachers trained in special education.

Unlike some of Spain’s tourist hotspots, where tensions between locals and tourists have risen over the summer, the Cies Islands present a rare success story. A simple but effective cap on daily visitor numbers has greatly reduced the pressure on the environment and created a more pleasant experience for visitors.
Before boarding the ferryboat to the islands, visitors must first secure a QR code from the Galician regional government and pay €25 for the round-trip fare. “It was chaos before the cap,” says José Bouzas, the director of the park. “There were just too many people. Now, not only do they understand the need for this limit, but they also appreciate it. It allows visitors to enjoy their time here without impacting the ecosystem.”
Spain’s overtourism problems aren’t limited to its most famous cities. Mass tourism has become a flashpoint for local annoyances. Protests erupted in multiple locations this year against the unchecked growth that affects local life. While tourism is often blamed for broader social issues, some experts argue that it’s only part of the problem. Linda Osti, a senior tourism lecturer at Bangor University, suggests that protests in cities like Barcelona expose a deeper disconnect between local authorities and residents. “Local governments should talk more about their intentions with their communities,” Osti says. “It’s not just about tourism, it’s about economic planning. If local people had better housing and employment conditions, tourism wouldn’t be such a flashpoint.”
As visitors sail to the Cies Islands, they witness a rare and beautiful balance between nature and tourism. It’s a place where nature lovers and eco-conscious travellers can enjoy a break from the crowds that overwhelm other parts of Spain. But this careful balance wasn’t achieved overnight. It required local authorities to take tough decisions, like the cap on visitors, and to stick with them, even as tourism grew elsewhere. For José Bouzas, the lesson is clear: “If you don’t conserve these islands, there’s no point. You’d end up killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.”
8. What’s the secret to the Cies Islands’ success in tourism?
A. Limiting tourist numbers. B. Building more facilities.
C. Practising green tourism. D. Providing quality service.
9. What is a requirement for tourists to visit the Cies Islands?
A. Taking a local ferryboat. B. Buying travel insurance.
C. Getting an official QR code. D. Passing security checks.
10. What should the government do according to Linda Osti?
A. Communicate with tourists. B. Promote community interactions.
C. Develop mass tourism industry. D. Improve housing and employment.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Tourism benefits both tourists and local people.
B. The local authority will continue the tourism policy.
C. The eco-system on the Cies Islands needs improving.
D. Travellers will visit the Cies Islands in large crowds.

As more and more species near extinction, scientists have been collecting samples from animals, plants and other creatures and storing them in biobanks across the globe. But climate change, environmental disasters and wars threaten these modern Noah’s arks. Now, a team of researchers is brainstorming an out-of-this-world solution: building one of these vaults (库) on the moon.
A biobank in a permanently shadowed region at the moon’s south pole could be far more stable than those on Earth. This part of the moon usually remains around -196° Celsius, perfect for storing most animal cells long-term, marine biologist Mary Hagedorn and colleagues report in BioScience.
Hagedorn and colleagues drew inspiration from the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway which takes advantage of below-zero Arctic temperatures to preserve millions of seeds from around the world. In 2017, melting (融化) frozen soil threatened to flood the vault, highlighting the need for a backup plan. A different team has proposed building a lunar ark in lava (熔岩) tubes that run beneath the moon’s surface. But that design requires a solar-powered cooling system; any loss of power and the samples would be destroyed. In the moon’s forever-frozen shadowed regions, a lunar vault wouldn’t need energy or constant human maintenance, Hagedorn’s team says.
Given the shadowy south pole’s low temperatures, Hagedorn says, a vault there could store “one of the most powerful cells that we have today” — fibroblasts. Scientists can transform these animal cells into stem cells, “and then those stem cells can be used for cloning,” she says. The cells could be valuable for regenerating populations of threatened or extinct species and for building ecosystems in future human settlements on the moon or Mars.
The proposal has its share of barriers. For instance, the moon’s permanently dark regions aren’t free from temperature swings, says lunar scientist Benjamin Greenhagen of the Johns Hopkins University. “They are still cold but perhaps not always cold enough for this project without some level of temperature management.”
12. Why is the moon an ideal place for the biobank?
A. It’s not affected by wars. B. It’s not environmentally polluted.
C. It has proper temperatures. D. It has rich resources for research.
13. What led to Hagedorn’s proposal of a lunar biobank?
A. The solar-powered cooling system. B. The lava tubes on the moon’s surface.
C. The problem facing the Norway Vault. D. The discovery of ice on the lunar pole.
14. What can scientists use fibroblasts to do?
A. Form stem cells for cloning. B. Explore moon soil conditions.
C. Help land humans on the moon. D. Improve the eco-system of the earth.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Lunar Exploration: The Next Frontier for Cloning
B. Relieving Climate Change: The Moon Biobank Project
C. The Moon as a Backup: A New Solution for Seed Storage
D. Building Biobanks on the Moon: A Proposal to Save Biodiversity

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Around 5:30 a.m., I met my running group — the Los Angeles Roadrunners training team. I had trained with them for ten long months. That ten months left me with blisters (水泡) and back aches. But my pace leaders reassured me that no matter what, I should keep going. I knew my very first marathon was coming. More importantly, my husband and my daughter promised to wait for me at the finishing line.
At about 6:30 a.m., I went to the starting gates and my excitement grew as the gun shot for the start and I was on cloud nine.
The first few miles were quite easy, but by mile 8 the pain was starting to spread all over my body, as if it were growing like a cancer. I had no choice but to slow down. Slowing down is much better than quitting, so I slowed down from my group and realized that the rest of this race was going to be just me and the road. Mile 12 brought about doubts whether I could even finish this race.
By mile 15, my pace had slowed even further. I reminded myself, “Just get to that finish line. Keep running, head held high.” Mile 18 brought me into familiar territory — my neighborhood. I had slowed to a walk by this point because my body didn’t want to move an inch. I wanted to just walk home. But I couldn’t because I had to keep going.
By mile 21, I had been told many times by spectators (观众), “You’re almost there. Keep it up!” The smile on their faces, and the determined look in their eyes made me realize how much they cared that I could finish. Left foot forward, now right foot forward. Every step I took, the intensity of the pain soaked (浸入) into every cell in my body. I’d been running for 4 hours with what seemed like no end in sight.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With just 4 miles left, I really wanted to quit.

Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won’t be stuck into academic tracks that don’t push them to their full potential.
4. Why does the author have to do his homework late at night?
A. He is assigned extra homework. B. He fails to manage his spare time.
C. He needs time to do it well enough. D. He dislikes tasks related to languages.
5 What does the underlined part “in my element” in paragraph 4 mean?
【答案】4. C 5. C 6. D 7. A

【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段“The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night.(作业耗费了我太多精力,而我追求完美的性格又让我无法在学校完成它们,所以我总是把它们留到以后,很可能就是深夜。)”可知,作者不得不深夜做家庭作业是因为作者追求完美,所以需要更多的时间来完成作业。故选C。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词句上文“I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class.(我曾被告知,美国历史高级课程将是我最难的一门课。)”可知,美国历史高级课程是一门最难的课。而划线单词下文“Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged.(尽管我已经落后了三项作业,但我仍然积极参与其中。)”
根据文章第五段“I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work.(我曾遇到过一些以讲座为基础的老师,他们期望学生记笔记并听讲。但作为一名阅读障碍学生,这种方式行不通。)”可知,作者作为阅读障碍的学生,觉得基于讲座的课程对他来说并不适用,因为它可能要求很高的听力和笔记能力,这是作者难以应对的。因此,可以推断出作者认为基于讲座的课程是要求高的。故选D。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第五段“Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible.(教师需要提供替代性的学习结构,使学习更加容易。)”以及最后一段“Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. Unlike some of Spain’s tourist hotspots where tensions between locals and tourists have risen over the summer, the Cies Islands present a rare success story.
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. D 11. B

细节理解题。根据文章第一段的“A simple but effective cap on daily visitor numbers has greatly reduced the pressure on the environment and created a more pleasant experience for visitors.(对每日游客数量进行简单但有效的限制大大减轻了对环境的压力,并为游客创造了更加愉快的体验。)”可知,Cies Islands成功的关键在于限制游客数量。故选A项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段的“Before boarding the ferryboat to the islands, visitors must first secure a QR code from the Galician regional government and pay €25 for the round-trip fare.(在登上前往岛屿的渡轮之前,游客必须先从加利西亚地区政府获取二维码,并支付往返票价25欧元。)”可知,游客想要访问Cies Islands的一个必要条件是获得官方二维码。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中Linda Osti的话“Local governments should talk more about their intentions with their communities.(地方政府应该更多地与社区讨论他们的意图。)”以及“‘It’s not just about tourism, it’s about economic planning. If local people had better housing and employment conditions, tourism wouldn’t be such a flashpoint.’(“这不仅仅是关于旅游业的问题,也是关于经济规划的问题。如果当地居民有更好的住房和就业条件,旅游业就不会成为如此敏感的话题。”)”可以推断,Linda Osti认为政府应当改善住房条件和就业状况。故选D项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段的“But this careful balance wasn’t achieved overnight. It required local authorities to take tough decisions, like the cap on visitors, and to stick with them, even as tourism grew elsewhere. For José Bouzas, the lesson is clear: ‘If you don’t conserve these islands, there’s no point. You’d end up killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.’(但这种谨慎的平衡并非一蹴而就。它需要地方当局做出艰难的决定,比如限制游客数量,并坚持这些决定,即使其他地方的旅游业在增长。对于José Bouzas来说,教训是显而易见的:“如果你不保护这些岛屿,那就没有意义了。你会杀死那只下金蛋的鹅。”)”可知,虽然限制游客数量短期内会影响收入,但长远来看,对岛的发展是有好处的。所以可以推断出当地当局将继续执行现有的旅游政策,以保护自然环境。故选B项。

I’m extremely delighted to hear that our school English newspaper is planning to add the column “Window of Art”. I firmly believe this is an excellent idea.
This column will offer us a precious opportunity to deepen our understanding of art. I suggest that the column could not only introduce both Chinese and Western artists and their renowned works but also provide some background information about the creation process and the artistic styles. Moreover, it would be wonderful to have some students’ comments or reviews about the artworks. 第二节(满分25分)
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With just 4 miles left, I really wanted to quit.

Finally, the smiling faces of my family came into my sight.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】With just 4 miles left, I really wanted to quit. My legs felt like lead, and my breathing was labored. Doubts filled my mind. “How could I finish? Was it even possible?” But then I thought of my husband and daughter waiting for me at the finish line. Their encouragement and love gave me a new burst of energy. I gritted my teeth and forced myself to take one step after another, telling myself that giving up was not an option.
Finally, the smiling faces of my family came into my sight. Tears welled up in my eyes and streamed down my cheeks. I summoned all my remaining strength and ran towards them. Crossing that finish line was the greatest moment of my life. The exhaustion vanished instantly as I was embraced by my loved ones. I had done it. I had completed my first marathon, proving to myself that with determination and love, anything was possible.
