(Text 1)W: Have you finished cleaning the bathroom? M: I’m doing it next. I’ve just finished the kitchen and I cleaned the living room windows this morning. (Text 2)M: Did you come by bus? W: Well, I waited at the bus stop for ages, but the bus never came, so I ended up walking here. M: Why didn’t you drive? W: It’s not that far, you know. (Text 3)M: Hi, I’m here to try out for the play. W: You need to talk to Ms. Jasinsky. M: Is she the one with short brown hair wearing a red dress? W: No, that’s Ms. Jenson. Ms. Jasinsky has long black hair. She’s right over there. (Text 4)W: Could I trouble you for some directions to City Hall? M: No problem, just go down this street for four blocks, then walk past the park that looks like a forest and it’s a tall glass building opposite the cinema. (Text 5)M: What are you going to get for lunch? W: Well, I like pizza, but it’s too fattening. M: How about a salad or a bowl of chicken noodles instead? W: I tried the salad yesterday. It wasn’t very fresh. I think I’ll try the noodles. (Text 6)M: Have you decided on anything? W: Well, I really like these black shoes but I’m short of cash. Is there an ATM nearby? M: There’s one about two blocks away. W: Umm, I don’t think I have enough time. M: It’s only 6 o’clock. We don’t close for another hour. W: I know, but I need to be somewhere in half an hour. M: Why don’t I hold on to them and you can pick them up tomorrow? W: That’ll be great! Thank you. What time do you open? M: 8 o’clock. (Text 7)W: How’s the job hunting going, Bill? M: Well, I’ve applied for a few positions and tomorrow I have an interview at a firm downtown. W: That’s great news! You’ve been out of work for a while. I hope you make a good impression tomorrow. M: Thank you. But finding a job is harder than I thought. I shouldn’t have quit before finding a new one. W: Well, just do your best. Any other job interviews in the near future? M: Well, a cousin of mine arranged a phone interview for me with his manager — there’s a job opening at his company. So I’ll call him later. W: Well, good luck. (Text 8)W: Hi! Are you Simon? M: Yes, and you seem to be Nancy, aren’t you? W: Oh yes! I am Nancy. I really didn’t recognize you at first. M: I also just guessed. I couldn’t really believe that you would have changed so much. We haven’t seen each other since graduation. Did you ever visit the school after we finished college? W: Yes, I went there just a week ago. I had some business with Mr. Johnson. M: Wow! Tell me how is our school now? How are the teachers? W: Mr. Anderson has been moved to another school, and Mr. Peterson took his place. The computer lab has been set up. The library was redecorated. And a new gym has been built beside the main gate. There are some new teachers too. M: Wow! I think I’ll go and visit it someday. (Text 9)W: Hello, San Felice Hotel. May I help you? M: Yes. I’d like to book a room, please. Starting from March the 23rd. Three nights. W: What kind of room would you like, sir? Single or double? M: Well, we have two people, so the latter is better. And I’d appreciate it if you could give me a south-facing room and with a view over the lake. W: Certainly, sir. I’ll just check what we have ... Yes, we have a room on the 4th floor that meets your requirements. M: Fine. How much is the charge per night? W: It’s eighty euros per night. M: That’s fine. W: Who’s the booking for, please, sir? M: Mr. and Mrs. Ryefield, that’s R-Y-E-F-I-E-L-D. W: Okay. Now please take note of this number 7576385. We need to confirm it at check-in. Thank you for choosing San Felice Hotel and have a nice day. Goodbye. (Text 10)M: Thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen, you can have your seats and enjoy with us the rest of the program. The New Year for me, especially when I was quite young, was more of a festival. I remember waiting almost the entire year for the New Year’s holidays. I remember saving money and keeping that for buying New Year cards. And that was the most unforgettable memory of my childhood instead of getting pocket money. I remember those beautiful little cards and the small envelopes in which I used to put those cards. In fact, the biggest and the best card was for our teacher, the second-best for the best friend, and the rest was for others, including my brothers and sisters. I remember spending a whole week in happiness and bringing home a lot of New Year cards. Nowadays when I see those cards I am reminded of my childhood. And I still buy one for myself. I hope many of you do. And on this occasion, we will hand out New Year cards, chocolates, and flowers to everyone. Volunteers will go to you and pass you these little presents. After that, we will move on to our musical journey. C 2. A 3. B 4. C 5. B 6. B 7. A 8. C 9. B 10. C 11. A 12. A 13. C 14. B 15. B 16. C 17. B 18. A 19. A 20. That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to “stop bugging me”. D 29. B 30. A 31. 根据第二段“On the one hand, your tent and a picnic shelter will keep you dry, but they offer little or no protection against lightning. Your car, on the other hand, will keep you dry and protect you from lightning strikes.(一方面,你的帐篷和野餐帐篷会让你保持干燥,但它们对雷击的保护很少或根本没有。 根据第二段“Protecting yourself against possible lightning strikes is very important; lightening kills an average of 62 people in the US each year.(保护自己免受雷击是非常重要的;美国每年平均有62人死于雷击。)” 根据最后一段“Of course, if you’re going backpacking (背包旅行), not car camping, and you’re deep in the woods, your car won’t be a good choice. So, what should you do if your car is far away and there’s no other safe shelter nearby? First, you’ll have to make sure that tree branches or other objects don’t fall on you or your campsite. Then you’ll have to get in a safe position to avoid lightning, or flash flood conditions. What else should you do?(当然,如果你是背包旅行,而不是汽车露营,而且你在树林深处,你的车就不是一个好的选择。 通读全文,尤其第一段“Then you hear what sounds like thunder in the distance. What should you do?(然后你听到远处有雷鸣般的声音。 和第二段中“ It’s a common question for many hikers and campers, especially when they are camping during summer months.(对于许多徒步旅行者和露营者来说,这是一个常见的问题,尤其是当他们在夏季露营时)”可知,本文主要介绍了户外露营遭遇暴风雨时可采取的安全躲避的方法。 We must do something to prevent people from polluting it. And I’d like to share some suggestions on how to live a low-carbon life. Firstly, we should go to school on foot or by using public transport, such as riding bikes or taking a bus. Secondly, it’s necessary to save water and electricity by turning off taps, fans, and lights in time when we don’t need them. Thirdly, it is also good to make full use of paper. By doing this, not only can we save resources but also we can protect trees. I believe the environment will become better and better with our joint efforts. It can be a new experience, but you shouldn’t worry. We’ve put together a guide on how to survive the first week. You’re not alone! Remember everybody else in your year is on the same boat. They may not realize it, but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to Senior High school is an opportunity, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules. Teachers are ready to help! If you’re unsure what to do or are worried about anything then you had better ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some Senior High schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. They will look out for you and help you if you have any problems or questions. All change There are lots of differences between Junior High school and Senior High school. You’ll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects. Other points If you’ve got an elder brother or sister at the school then ask them for advice. Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally. Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning! 21. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined sentence? A. Other students have similar feelings to yours. B. Other students have to learn boating with you. C. Other students will help you solve your problems. D. Other students will teach you politeness and new rules. 22. The new students turn to teachers first when having problems because_______. A. teachers won’t blame them as parents do B. teachers are good at helping solve problems C. teachers are equal to every student D. parents are too busy to help them 23. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To tell students the importance of learning. B. To warn students not to ignore friendship in Senior High school. C. To make a difference when moving up to Senior High school. D. To help new students to get used to the life in Senior High school. B English is full of funny expressions that don’t always make sense. Idioms are phrases and sentences that do not mean exactly what they say. Even if you know the meaning of each word, you may not understand the idiom because you don’t understand the culture behind it. Here are some English idioms based on animals. When children jump around and act silly, their parents may tell them to stop “monkeying around”.To “monkey around” means to do things that are not useful or serious, or to simply waste time. Many American families have and love pet dogs. But for some unknown reason, Americans use “dog” in a phrase that means to feel unwell. If you are “as sick as a dog”, you’re really, really sick. Sometimes you may also hear cats mentioned in conversations, “I told you to keep that secret, but you have just ‘let the cat out of the bag’!” You probably guessed it — that idiom means to reveal a secret or tell facts that were previously unknown. Dogs and cats don’t always get along, but they appear side by side in a commonly used idiom. When it rains heavily, people might say it’s “raining cats and dogs”. Heavy rain often ruins people’s plans for outdoor activities. But on a lovely day, you can have a picnic. If a swarm (一群) of tiny bugs love your food and start to hover (盘旋) around you, it would be really annoying. That experience perfectly explains why people often tell someone who keeps bothering them to “stop bugging me”. Idioms are very common in both spoken and written English. If you want to have a better understanding of English, you have to learn idioms. 24. According to Paragraph 1, which is right about idioms? A. Expressions which are based on animals. B. Expressions with rich cultural background. C. Expressions that always make sense. D. Expressions which are easy to understand. 25. What can “monkeying around” be used to describe? A. Children jump around and waste time. B. Children do something useful and serious. C. Children play with monkeys with their parents. D. Children spend time playing with their family pets. 26. What can be learned from the text? A. Dogs and cats always get along nicely. B. Bugs can be used to show your annoyance. C. Americans believe cats can give away secrets. D. Americans use the idiom “as sick as a dog” to describe a healthy man. 27. How does the text mainly develop? A. By sharing experiences. B. By making comparisons. C. By giving examples. D. By listing figures. C It’s a warm summer afternoon. You’re cooking your food over a campfire. Suddenly, a few raindrops fall on your arms. Then you hear what sounds like thunder in the distance. What should you do? Your tent is close by and would offer shelter (庇护) from the pouring rain. There’s a campsite picnic shelter a few minutes down the path. And then you remember that your car is parked down the road. What’s your safest choice to make sure you and your families are safe?     It’s a common question for many hikers and campers, especially when they are camping during summer months. Heading to your car is almost always the safest choice. On the one hand, your tent and a picnic shelter will keep you dry, but they offer little or no protection against lightning. Your car, on the other hand, will keep you dry and protect you from lightning strikes. Protecting yourself against possible lightning strikes is very important; lightening kills an average of 62 people in the US each year. If you keep all of the windows and doors closed in your car, you’ll be able to return to your campsite safely. Of course, if you’re going backpacking (背包旅行), not car camping, and you’re deep in the woods, your car won’t be a good choice. So, what should you do if your car is far away and there’s no other safe shelter nearby? First, you’ll have to make sure that tree branches or other objects don’t fall on you or your campsite. Then you’ll have to get in a safe position to avoid lightning, or flash flood conditions. What else should you do? 28. To avoid lightning in a storm, you’d better________. A. go into your tent quickly B. cook your food over a campfire C. run into a campsite picnic shelter at once D. get into your car and return to your campsite later 29. What can we learn from Paragraph 2? A. Young people like backpacking best. B. Lightning is dangerous for campers. C. Car camping is a good choice for deep woods. D. Camping during summer is very popular. 30. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. It is important to learn to protect yourself when camping. B. Backpacking is not a good choice for campers. C. People should never camp deep in the woods. D. People should not go camping alone. 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. The meaning of camping. B. How to live through a storm when camping. C. How to travel safely. D. Car camping is the safest. D A young Dutch inventor is widening his effort to clean up floating (浮动的) plastic from the Pacific Ocean. He has developed a floating machine to collect plastic waste moving into rivers before it reaches the oceans. Boyan Slat was just 18 years old when he invented a system for catching waste in the ocean. He also founded an environmental group called “The Ocean Cleanup”. Its purpose is to develop the system. Last year, Slat showed the next step: a floating machine which is called Interceptor. It removes plastic out of rivers. The machine is powered by energy from the sun. “The 1,000 rivers are responsible for about 80% of plastic going into the world’s oceans,” said Slat. Three of the machines have already been used. Each machine costs about $775, 660, but the cost might drop as production increases. Since they were used, the machines have been doing very well, collecting the plastic bottles and all the rubbish in the rivers. According to Slat, it is necessary to close “the tap”, which means preventing more plastic from reaching the ocean in the first place. He wanted to clean them all in the next five years. “This is not going to be easy, but if we do get this done, we could truly make our oceans clean again”, said Slat. The machine is designed to be safe in rivers. Its nose is shaped to change directions to keep it away from larger floating things. It works by guiding plastic waste into an opening in the front of the machine. The waste is then carried inside the machine where it is dropped into containers. The machine sends a message to local operators that can come and empty it when it is full. 32. What do we know about Interceptor? A. It is being under test. B. It can help sort waste. C. It needs solar power to work. D. It is mainly used in the oceans. 33. What does the underlined phrase “the tap” refer to in Paragraph 3? A. The waste. B. The rivers. C. The oceans. D. The machines. 34. What’s the function of the machine’s nose? A. To empty the waste. B. To send operators messages. C. To serve as containers. D. To ensure the machine’s safety. 35. Where is the text most likely from? A. A novel. B. A magazine. C. A diary. D. A guidebook. Your teen years are a time to learn about yourself and start thinking about your future.
