绝密★启用前 2025年1月上海市春季高考英语仿真模拟试卷01 (笔试部分) I.Grammar and Vocabulary (每题1分;共20分) Section A Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank. Why We Should Record Travel Moments On a rainy summer day, I took a train to Switzerland and trekked through the mud to a medieval fortress high atop a cliff. After twisting through its dimly lit corridors, I finally 1 (arrive) at the main viewpoint of Cave of the Fairies: a plunging 77m waterfall that shoots from underground into a sparkling pool. As the waterfall wet my jacket, I closed my eyes and took out my phone 2 (record) the rush of dreamy reality before me. I had come in search of a sound, not a sight. Throughout my travels, I’ve found myself 3 (collect) sound recordings the way other people collect souvenirs. Just as some travellers take photos of landscapes or their food, I started doing this as an artistic way to help me remember some of the most interesting details of my trips. Environmental scientist Lauren Kuehne said, “I think that once you start to listen, once you actually start to listen, you start to appreciate how much 4 (big) the world is.” This attitude 5 (echo) by Samara Kester, a retired emergency medicine physician who now serves on QPI’s board. “A photograph is two dimensions. 6 you are looking at something you’re seeing, it’s maybe 180 degrees, maybe 270 degrees. Sound is 360 degrees. You hear it all around you.” Kester explained 7 teaching herself to be a better listener has not only expanded her sense of travel, but helped her relive her travels once she’s back home. “You immerse 8 in that place again. You recreate those memories and therefore recreate the feelings you had, 9 are very hard to express clearly. You can re-experience that and that will send you to where you were before.” Months later back in my L.A.home, I find myself popping on my headphones and listening back to the rush of falling water inside Cave of the Fairies. When I close my eyes, I 10 feel the spray of water against my skin, the sense of letting my ears lead me on a faraway adventure. Mentally, I’m right back there — if only for a moment. 1.arrived 2.to record 3.collecting 4.bigger 5.was echoed 6.When/While 7.how 8.yourself 9.which 10.can 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了作者喜欢在旅行中记录声音的原因。 1. 故填to record。 3. find sb. doing sth. 故填was echoed。 6. 故填When/While。 7. 故填how。 8. 故填which。 10. 故填can。 Section B Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. Each word can be used only once. Note that there is one word more than you need. A.approach B.beneficiaries C. recently D.eliminates E. nutrients F. practices G. irreparable H. threat I. undesirable J. panic K. naturally The Beneficial Effects of Forest Fires Forest fires are undoubtedly a threat. In the mid-1900s, all forest burns were considered 11 , and firefighters responded to all of these fires whether or not they were burning close to where humans lived. This 12 to forest fires was both expensive and risky. However, more 13 forest managers began to see that forest fires did have benefits. Foresters saw that forest fires were beneficial for trees and soil. Previously, people believed that forest fires caused 14 damage to trees, however, now forest managers know that trees are the major 15 of fires. Many 16 occurring forest fires, often caused by lightning strikes, are surface fires that burn the understory — the shrubs and herbs from the forest — without damaging the trees in the overstory. In this way, the fire 17 competition from the smaller trees, allowing the larger trees to flourish. Once the understory has been burned away, the forest is less likely to burn from high-temperature fires that can do real damage to the tall trees. In the past, it was not obvious how forest fires enriched the soil. Today, foresters understand that forest fires improve soil quality by changing the ‘litter’ — dead leaves and branches on the forest floor — to nutrient-rich soil. Normally, litter decomposes very slowly. However, fire releases the 18 in the litter immediately. This creates an increase in the amount of phosphorus and potassium which are key elements that promote tree growth. As forest managers have leared more about the long-term effects of forest fires, they have realized that forest fires can have beneficial effects and have changed their forest management 19 to reflect this new opinion. It is now recognized that forest fires, are a natural part of forest ecosystems and are beneficial to the trees and soil. As long as fires are no 20 to homes and communities, foresters now often choose to do nothing to stop the fires. 11.I 12.A 13.C 14.G 15.B 16.K 17.D 18.E 19.F 20.H 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 41-45每题1分;56-70每题2分) Section A Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A. Ultimately, “we are what we can remember,” he said. Here are some of Dr. Restak’s tips for developing and 23 a healthy memory. Pay more attention. Some memory lapses are actually attention problems, not memory problems. 24 , if you’ve forgotten the name of someone you met at a cocktail party, it could be because you were talking with several people at the time. One way to pay attention when you learn new information is to 25 the word. Having a picture associated with the word, Restak said, can improve 26 . Find regular everyday memory challenges. There are many memory exercises that you can 27 into everyday life. Dr. Restak suggested composing a grocery list and memorizing it. When you get to the store, don’t 28 pull out your list (or your phone) — instead, pick up everything according to your memory. Once in a while, get in the car without turning on your GPS, and try to 29 through the streets from memory. A small 2020 study suggested that people who used GPS more frequently over time showed a steeper cognitive 30 in spatial memory three years later. Play games. Dr. Restak’s “favorite working memory game” is 20 Questions — in which a group thinks of a person, place or object, and the other person, the questioner, asks 20 questions with a yes-or-no answer. Because to succeed, he said, the questioner must hold all of the 31 answers in memory in order to guess the correct answer. The point is to 32 your working memory, “maintaining information and moving it around in your mind,” Restak wrote. Read more novels. One early indicator of memory issues, according to Dr. Restak, is 33 fiction. “People, when they begin to have memory difficulties, tend to switch to reading nonfiction,” he said. Fiction requires active engagement with the text, starting at the beginning and working through to the end. 34 technology. Storing everything on your phone means that “you don’t know it,” Dr. Restak said, which can 35 our own mental abilities. The second way our relationship with technology is harmful to memory is because it often takes our focus away from the task at hand. 21.A.accomplishment B.assumption C.regulation D.observation 22.A.inevitable B.dispensable C.reverse D.doubtful 23.A.striking B.enduring C.arousing D.maintaining 24.A.Nevertheless B.Moreover C.For instance D.Instead 25.A.demonstrate B.trace C.discover D.visualize 26.A.recall B.sight C.target D.instinct 27.A.enclose B.integrate C.evolve D.impose 28.A.steadily B.actively C.gradually D.automatically 29.A.adjust B.rush C.gesture D.navigate 30.A.performance B.decline C.awareness D.increase 31.A.modest B.original C.previous D.personal 32.A.engage B.drain C.insert D.fulfill 33.A.devoting to B.concentrating on C.giving in to D.giving up on 34.A.Beware of B.Stick to C.Long for D.Differ from 35.A.counter B.stock C.erode D.strengthen 【答案】 21.B 22.A 23.D 24.C 25.D 26.A 27.B 28.D 29.D 30.B 31.C 32.A 33.D 34.A 35.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 A. accomplishment完成;B. assumption假设;C. regulation管理;D. observation观察。根据上文“As we age, our memory declines.” 根据转折词however 可知,前后句意相反,根据上文“As we age, our memory declines.” 故选A。 23. A. striking打击;B. enduring忍受;C. arousing唤醒;D. maintaining保持。根据上文“Here are some of Dr. Restak’s tips for developing and”可知,此处指培养和保持健康记忆力的建议。故选D。 24. A. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. (A) When does spring begin? For some, it’s the second Sunday in March, when we turn our clocks forward by an hour in the United States. For others, it’s when they first realize they’ve finished dinner and it’s still light out. This year, impatient as ever for winter to end, I decided to skip my usual routine of calendar watching and see if I couldn’t do something to speed up spring’s arrival. It’s only a three-hour flight from La Guardia (rainy, cold), New York to West Palm Beach (sunny, 81 degrees, slight breeze), Florida and from there an hour’s drive to Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, the spring training home of the New York Mets, where the traffic of more than 7,000 fans descended. Here in Port St. Lucie on a Tuesday afternoon, weeks before the season’s official start, cheery fans were dressed in lightweight clothing, drinking Modelo Especial and snacking on peanuts, heckling (起哄) the players. Here, spring was already happening. Being outdoors in the sunshine and fresh air, things do feel slower and easier. I love that baseball has long been considered America’s national pastime. A pastime is something that makes the passing of time pleasant. Isn’t that what we’re dying for in the winter months? Something that makes time not just tolerable but enjoyable? By the time I left Florida, it was pouring rain and even a little chilly. How was I supposed to take springtime home with me, I wondered fiercely. It was still raining in New York when I landed. Spring isn’t just weather, of course, and it certainly makes no promises about rain. I'm trying to resist cliché (陈词滥调), to keep from saying something similar to “spring is a state of mind,” even though I wish it were. I went looking for spring and I found it where spring breakers find it every year, already in full swing in the Sunshine State. My own official removal of woolen coats will occur on Tuesday, when spring finally arrives. But having experienced 24 hours of spring’s full pageant (盛会), my own little preseason, I feel slightly pacified. Perhaps I can be patient as spring establishes itself, and offer the season a little grace as it clicks into place. 36.What is presented in Paragraph 1? A.Spring falls on a fixed date. B.Spring came late this year. C.The author was longing for spring restlessly. D.The author was celebrating the end of winter. 37.How did the author find Port St. Lucie? A.A fast-paced world. B.Full of a joyful atmosphere. C.The birthplace of baseball. D.Home to delicious food. 38.What does the underlined word “pacified” in the last paragraph mean? A.Puzzled. B.Disappointed. C.Curious. D.Calm. 39.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.In Search of Spring B.In Praise of Spring C.A Trip to Florida D.A Farewell to New York 【答案】36.C 37.B 38.D 39.A 【导语】这是一篇夹叙夹议文。 根据文章第一段“This year, impatient as ever for winter to end, I decided to skip my usual routine of calendar watching and see if I couldn’t do something to speed up spring’s arrival.(今年,和往年一样,我迫不及待地希望冬天结束,我决定不再按惯例盯着日历看,而是看看自己能不能做些什么来加速春天的到来。)” 根据文章第二段“Here in Port St. Lucie on a Tuesday afternoon, weeks before the season’s official start, cheery fans were dressed in lightweight clothing, drinking Modelo Especial and snacking on peanuts, heckling(起哄)the players. Here, spring was already happening.(在圣露西港,一个周二的下午,距离赛季正式开始还有几周的时间,兴高采烈的球迷们穿着轻便的衣服,喝着Modelo special,吃着花生,向球员起哄。在这里,春天已经来临。)”可知,作者认为圣露西港充满欢乐的气氛。故选B。 38.词句猜测题。根据上文“But having experienced 24 hours of spring’s full pageant (盛会), my own little preseason(但在经历了24小时的春天盛会之后,我自己也提前进入了春季前的准备阶段)”和下文“Perhaps I can be patient as spring establishes itself, and offer the season a little grace as it clicks into place.(也许我可以在春天到来的时候保持耐心,在春天到来的时候给这个季节增添一点优雅。)” 根据文章第一段“This year, impatient as ever for winter to end, I decided to skip my usual routine of calendar watching and see if I couldn’t do something to speed up spring’s arrival.(今年,和往年一样,我迫不及待地希望冬天结束,我决定不再按惯例盯着日历看,而是看看自己能不能做些什么来加速春天的到来。)”和文章最后一段“I went looking for spring and I found it where spring breakers find it every year, already in full swing in the Sunshine State.(我去寻找春天,我在每年春假的地方找到了它,在阳光之州已经如火如荼了。)” A项“In Search of Spring(寻找春天)”概括文章主旨,适合作为标题。故选A。 (B) Outdoor Recreation Get outdoors with us this summer and experience the excitement and peace within our unique programs. Now, researchers at University College London (UCL) have found some truth to this statement. A new study suggests actors may suppress their sense of self when they take on a new character, hinting at the massive impact theater training may have on fundamental mechanisms of the human brain. “Our findings indicate that cooperating with the theater industry could be helpful in producing theories about social interaction that could also be investigated in the real world,” said Dwaynica Gteaves, lead author of the study. In particular, the researchers are hoping that future work in this space can focus on how participation in theatrical activities might help people with autism (自闭症). The actors in the study were fitted with brain imaging technology while they rehearsed scenes from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night s Dream. When they heard their names while performing, their response was suppressed in the brain region associated with self-awareness. While they were not performing, the actors responded normally when called by name. The study also looked at interpersonal coordination between pairs of actors. The researchers noticed that two actors rehearsing together had similar brain activity in the regions of the brain associated with social interaction and action planning, revealing “specific brain systems that are coordinated during complex social interactions”. In fact, drama therapy has been considered a beneficial practical strategy for improving social communication in children with developmental or learning disabilities. A preliminary study found students with autism who underwent theater experiences showed significant positive changes in the development of social and language skills. In the future, researchers at UCL aim to include both trained and untrained actors as subjects. The recent study, admittedly, lacked a control group of people without theater training and had a small sample size of only 6 actors. But the researchers remain hopeful of the possible future applications of their findings in aiding social communication, including in individuals with autism. 43.What effect may taking on a new character have on actors, as suggested by the study? A.They may forget their identities. B.Their self-awareness may weaken. C.They may lose themselves completely. D.Their brain mechanisms may be damaged. 44.How did the researchers conduct the study? A.By interacting with the actors. B.By observing the actors’ behavior. C.By surveying the actors’ responses. D.By monitoring the actors’ brain activity. 45.What positive changes were seen in students with autism who engaged in theater experiences? A.Improved physical health. B.Enhanced cognitive abilities. C.Strengthened interpersonal skills. D.Increased academic performance. 46.What can be inferred about the study? A.The researchers lacked expertise. B.It can be used to train child actors. C.It is a major breakthrough in medicine. D.It is promising despite its limitations. 根据文章第一段中的“A new study suggests actors may suppress (抑制) their sense of self when they take on a new character, hinting at the massive impact theater training may have on fundamental mechanisms of the human brain. (一项新的研究表明,演员在扮演新角色时可能会抑制他们的自我意识,这暗示了戏剧训练可能对人类大脑的基本机制产生巨大影响。)”可知,新的研究表明,演员在扮演新角色时可能会压抑自我意识,他们的自我意识可能会减弱。故选B。 44.推理判断题。从文章第三段“The actors in the study were fitted with brain imaging technology while they rehearsed scenes from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night s Dream. When they heard their names while performing, their response was suppressed in the brain region associated with self-awareness. While they were not performing, the actors responded normally when called by name. The study also looked at interpersonal coordination between pairs of actors. (一项初步研究发现,有戏剧经历的自闭症学生在社交和语言技能的发展方面表现出显著的积极变化。)”可知,他们的人际交往能力得到了加强。故选C。 46.推理判断题。从文章最后一段中的“The recent study, admittedly, lacked a control group of people without theater training and had a small sample size of only 6 actors. But the researchers remain hopeful of the possible future applications of their findings in aiding social communication, including in individuals with autism. (不可否认,最近的研究缺少一个没有受过戏剧训练的对照组,而且样本很小,只有6名演员。但研究人员仍然对他们的发现在未来帮助社会交流,包括自闭症患者的应用抱有希望。)”可知,尽管研究存在局限性,但研究人员仍对其发现可能在帮助社会交流方面的未来应用持乐观态度。故选D。 Section C Directions: Complete the following passage by using the sentences in the box Each sentence can only be used once. Note that there are two sentences more than you need. A.They have to point out someone to monitor them and ensure they reach the goal or donate the money. B.Despite our best intentions, we often fail to meet our goals. C.Rituals are series of steps we take while attaching some kind of symbolic meaning. D.In the past, my colleagues and I have found that rituals reduce anxiety before stressful tasks, and improve performance. E.They also need to state what will happen to the money if they don’t stick to their commitments (e.g., it’ll go to a friend or to a charity they do not like). F.For instance, research has found that people persist for longer on tasks that require self-control when they know they’ll be paid for their efforts, or when they are told that their work will benefit others. Many of our most worrying problems, from overeating to not saving enough for retirement to not working out enough have something in common: lack of self-control. Self-control is what gives us the capacity to say no to choices that are immediately satisfying but costly in the long term — that a piece of chocolate cake (instead of an apple), that afternoon in front of the couch (instead of a visit to the gym). 47 The problem of self-control has puzzled psychologists and behavioral scientists for decades. A great deal of research has identified situations in which self-control failures are likely to happen and tools to help people exercise better control. 48 These motivating incentives can increase our self-control, at least up to a point. Entrepreneurs have also become interested in self-control, as is evident from the many diet and exercise apps and gadgets on the market. To take one notable example, on the commitment contract website stickK.com, users put down some money (say, $200) and state a goal they want to achieve (such as to lose ten pounds in a month). 49 If they meet their goal, they earn their money back. If they don’t, they lose the money. Tools like stickK.com can be effective, but they are often difficult to implement. My colleagues and I conducted a new research to point to a different solution that may be easier to carry out: using rituals. 50 Players in all sorts of sports have rituals that involve actions such as eating the same foods in exactly the same order before a game. From the way some prepare their coffee to the way people celebrate important life events, like weddings or graduations, rituals are a part of our daily life. And though they may seem useless, or even silly, research has found that rituals are powerful. 47.根据前文“Many of our most worrying problems, from overeating to not saving enough for retirement to not working out enough have something in common: lack of self-control. Self-control is what gives us the capacity to say no to choices that are immediately satisfying but costly in the long term — that a piece of chocolate cake (instead of an apple), that afternoon in front of the couch (instead of a visit to the gym). 48.根据后文“These motivating incentives can increase our self-control, at least up to a point. (这些激励可以提高我们的自制力,至少在一定程度上是这样。)”可知,此处是指有自制力的人往往很有动力点,所以选项F“例如,研究发现,当人们知道他们的努力会得到回报,或者当他们被告知他们的工作将使他人受益时,他们会坚持更长的时间来完成需要自我控制的任务。”切合文意。故选F。 49.根据前文“To take one notable example, on the commitment contract website stickK.com, users put down some money (say, $200) and state a goal they want to achieve (such as to lose ten pounds in a month). (举一个著名的例子,在承诺合同网站stickK.com上,用户先投下一些钱(比如200美元),然后陈述一个他们想要实现的目标(比如一个月减掉10磅)。)”和后文“If they meet their goal, they earn their money back. If they don’t, they lose the money. (如果他们达到了目标,他们就能赚回自己的钱。如果他们不这样做,他们就会失去这笔钱。)”可知,此处是指用户需要陈述没有达成目标会受到的惩罚,所以选项E“他们还需要说明,如果他们不遵守承诺,这笔钱会怎么处理(例如,这笔钱会捐给他们不喜欢的朋友或慈善机构)。”切合文意。故选E。 50.根据前文“My colleagues and I conducted a new research to point to a different solution that may be easier to carry out: using rituals. (我和我的同事进行了一项新的研究,指出了一个可能更容易实施的不同解决方案:使用仪式。)”和后文“Players in all sorts of sports have rituals that involve actions such as eating the same foods in exactly the same order before a game. (参加各种运动的运动员都有一些仪式,比如在比赛前按照完全相同的顺序吃同样的食物。)”可知,此处是介绍“仪式”是什么,所以选项C“仪式是我们采取的一系列步骤,同时附加某种象征意义。”切合文意。故选C。 III.Summary Writing Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point( s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. Have you ever found yourself waiting the stop of your bus to arrive and have a stranger ask a commonplace question? Perhaps you’ve stood in line waiting for a coffee and feel the need to just look over to the person next to you and ask about the weather. This is small talk, and despite the name, it’s actually a big part of daily life. “Small talk may seem trivial(微不足道的), but it’s a natural way for people to connect. It may seem like a waste of time. But it serves a vital role in our social interactions. Big relationships are built on small talk.” Lindy Pegler, who has a master’s degree in psychology, wrote on Medium. In fact, we spend a lot of our time making small talk. Often, we find ourselves making small talk with the same people on a regular basis. Coming up with small conversations is the foundation of these relationships. The benefits of such conversations can actually contribute to our happiness and benefit our lives as a whole. In a study cited by The New York Times, researchers found that having a healthy amount of acquaintances(相识的人) and maintaining these relationships contribute to one’s sense of belonging to a community. So how does one start making small talk? It can be as simple as complimenting one’s shirt, asking about their day or commenting on the traffic. “First and foremost, small talk is an act of politeness,” Pegler noted. “Our small talk at our first meeting is our chance to show who we are,” she added. Who knows where this can lead? Nowadays, the small connections we make can lead to big results. You might find someone who has a common interest, or maybe even someone who turns out to be a close friend. There is one thing for sure: Making small talk can brighten our day—even if it’s just a nice comment or thoughtful question. So the next time you find yourself waiting for the bus or checking your watch while you wait in a line, take the opportunity to look up and talk to someone around you. After all, it takes a small connection to lead to a larger one. 51.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Small talk plays an important part of daily life. Just as some travellers take photos of landscapes or their food, I started doing this as an artistic way to help me remember some of the most interesting details of my trips. You can re-experience that and that will send you to where you were before.” Months later back in my L.A.home, I find myself popping on my headphones and listening back to the rush of falling water inside Cave of the Fairies. This is a fixed 21 for many of us; however, according to neuroscientist Dr. Richard Restak, a neurologist and clinical professor, decline is not 22 . 21.A.accomplishment B.assumption C.regulation D.observation 22.A.inevitable B.dispensable C.reverse D.doubtful 23.A.striking B.enduring C.arousing D.maintaining 24.A.Nevertheless B.Moreover C.For instance D.Instead 25.A.demonstrate B.trace C.discover D.visualize 26.A.recall B.sight C.target D.instinct 27.A.enclose B.integrate C.evolve D.impose 28.A.steadily B.actively C.gradually D.automatically 29.A.adjust B.rush C.gesture D.navigate 30.A.performance B.decline C.awareness D.increase 31.A.modest B.original C.previous D.personal 32.A.engage B.drain C.insert D.fulfill 33.A.devoting to B.concentrating on C.giving in to D.giving up on 34.A.Beware of B.Stick to C.Long for D.Differ from 35.A.counter B.stock C.erode D.strengthen Section B Directions: Read the following three passages. Section C Directions: Complete the following passage by using the sentences in the box Each sentence can only be used once. III.Summary Writing Directions: Read the following passage. 51.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ IV.Translation (共15分。 Directions:Translate the following sentences into English, using the words given in the brackets 52. (tear off) 53. (commit) 54. (launch) 55. (only) (汉译英) V.Guided Writing (共25分) 56.Directions:  Write an English composition in 120-150 words according to the instructions given below in Chinese. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 第 1 页 共 1 页 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2025年1月上海市春季高考英语仿真模拟试卷01 (口试部分) Test 1 I. There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide. So, what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous about it , to be honest ----I wasn't keen on the idea of laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. First, our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say "ho ho ho, ha ha ha," while looking at each other. Amazingly, it works. After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real — and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and calm I felt. Q:What does the man imply? 10.M: Have you found out yet what hotel you will be staying in?I'm at the Gordon right across the street from the conference center. W: Huh, lucky you.I'm at the Apple Gates six miles away. Q: What does the woman mean? Questions 1l through 13 are based on the following passage. Anyone can learn to taste wine more analytically, without following professional critics. It is mostly a matter of leaning to identify elements in wine and to associate them with the relevant descriptive term. Because different people may have different initial understanding of a certain flavor, judges in wine-tasting experiments first smell physical samples such as blackberries so they agree on what "blackberry""Means. Judges then go into individual rooms, dimly lit with red light to make all wines appear the same color.A researcher slides a tray with numbered wines through the wall, and the judges rate them on a computer screen At home you can simplify this procedure and make it more fun. First, tell a group of friends to bring a particular variety of wine, such as Syrah. Your job,as host, is to find samples of flavors commonly found in Syrah: black pepper, blackberries, clove. Put each one in a glass.Once your guests are settled.pass around and smell the standards. Then taste each wine and see which flavors you recognize and how strongly. If you want help, consider the Aroma Wheel developed by Ann Noble. The center of the wheel establishes broad categories of flavors, such as fruity or spicy. Each category gets more refined toward the edge of the wheel: first fruity, then bery, then raspberry.Learning to experience the sensory world in more detail can make the hours a day we spend preparing and eating food a lot more enjoyable. Now listen again. Questions 11.What do judges in wine-tasting experiment first need to do? 12.According to the passage, which of the following statements is true of the Aroma Wheel? 13. What is the passage mainly about? Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage. Good morning, class. Before we begin today,I would like to address an issue that one of you reminded me of after the last lecture. As you may recall, last time I mentioned that Robert E.Peary was the first person to reach the North Pole. What I neglected to mention was the debate around Peary's pioneering accomplishment. In 1910, a committee of the national geographical society examined Commodore Peary's claim to have reached the North Pole on April 6, 1909 and found no reason to doubt him. This judgment was actually confirmed by a committee of the US congress in 1991. Nevertheless, Peary's claim was still surrounded by doubt. This was largely due to the competing claim of Doctor Frederic Cook who told the world he had reached the Pole four years earlier. Over the decades Peary was given the benefit of the doubt, but critics persisted in raising questions about the distances he claimed to have covered. So the Navigation Foundation spent an additional 12 months of exhaustive examination of documents relating to Peary's polar trip. The documents supported Peary's claims about the distances he covered. After also conducting an extensive computer analysis of photos taken by Peary at the pole, they concluded that Peary and his companions did in fact reach the near vicinity of the North Pole on April 6,1909. Now listen again. Questions 14. Why does the professor mention the debate surrounding Peary? 15. What did Doctor Cook maintain? 16. How did the experts determine that Peary did reach the North Pole? Questions 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation. W:H., Jim What are you doing? M: Oh,Hi,Linda.I'm working on a report on energy resources for my environmental science class. But I'm having trouble finding enough information. W; You know, we were talking about sources of fuel in my class today. M: Yeah? W:Prof. Collins. He is an authority on energy source. He was telling us about a new way of getting fuel oil from coal. M: I didn't know that was possible. W:He said something about coal being set on fire and burned with a mixture of steam and oxygen. This process produces a gas made up of hydrogen and carbon, the...hum, the basic elements of oil. M: And then they do something to change that gas to oil? W:Right. First, since coal contains fewer hydrogen atoms than oil, they have to add some extra hydrogen to the gas, Then impurities are washed out with a chemical called methanol.I think, before this gas is sent on to reactors where it's changed into oil. M: Since coal is so plentiful i guess it won't be long before this new type of oil is available all over the place, ah? W:I doubt it. Prof. Collins said something about the process not economical enough to use in this country. At any rate, you really ought to talk to him. He'll be able to help you more than I can and he's got office hours all afternoon today. M: Thanks. He's over in Anderson Hall, right? W: Right. Now listen again. Questions 17. What are the speakers mainly discussing? 18. How did the woman learn about the process she describes? 19.In the process described by the woman, why is the coal burned? 20.What does the woman mention as a disadvantage of the process she describes? That's the end of listening comprehension. ( 第 1 页 共 1 页 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
