How much time do you spend looking at your smart phone, iPad, or computer every day? These electronic devices (设备) help us in many ways, but they may cause health problems, too.
Too much screen time can cause eye tiredness, which leaves your eyes feeling dry, painful and could even affect your eyesight. To help your eyes stay healthy, follow the “20-20-20” rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Your eyes aren’t the only parts of your body that could become worse from using electronic devices. People who type a lot can develop an injury. The repeated movement of typing with fingers can cause pain and lead to losing strength. To avoid this, do this exercise: put a rubber band (橡皮筋) around the tips of your five fingers and open your hand to make the rubber band bigger and wider. Repeat this a few times.
Scientists suggest that electronic devices can hurt your mind too. One of the biggest problems is that using these things can affect your sleep styles. Doctors say the screen light stops you from feeling sleepy. So they advise people not to use electronic devices for at least one hour before trying to sleep.
Another serious danger is Internet addiction (瘾). Many people turn to the Internet to get relaxation. They wish to get away from stress sadness or loneliness. Over time, they might start to depend on the Internet. To stop yourself from falling into this kind of trap, control the amount of time you spend online.
Remember, there is more to life than looking at an electronic screen. Try to use your smart phone or computer in a healthy way.
5. What does the first of the “20–20–20” rule in the passage suggest?
A. How long the break should last.
B. How often you have the break.
C. How far you look at things from you.
D. How many times you need to take a break.
6. Which picture best shows the rubber band exercise according to the passage?
A. B. C. D.
7. What may get worse by using electronic devices too much?
A. Eyes, fingers and mind. B. Ear, noses and feelings.
C. Eyes, arms and taste. D. Ear, hands and smell.
8. What is the writer’s purpose to write this passage?
A. Call on people to use electronic devices healthily.

C. Tell people to keep away from the electronic devices.
D. Advise lonely people to use more electronic devices.

Type in “A cat wants to go to space” and ask the robot to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you’ll get the story of Max, a cat who went through many difficulties to reach the space and sing among the stars.
This robot writer is real. It’s called ChatGPT. US company OpenAI developed it to generate human-like texts. It can translate languages, talk with people and write songs, poems and even jokes.
People around the world have tried ChatGPT and posted their results on social media. Some used it to write history articles, some asked it to take notes of presentations, and some even got advice on how to communicate with people at a party, reported The Atlantic.
The power of ChatGPT lies in its speed and understanding of different matters. We may spend hours researching, understanding and writing an article on the theory of evolution (进化论). But ChatGPT can produce a well-written one in seconds.
ChatGPT comes along at a time when AI is becoming increasingly skilled of doing creative tasks. The materials they create are difficult to distinguish (区分) from those made by humans. This may cause the problem of copyright (版权). Since the system is largely trained using words from the Internet, it can also pick up on the Internet’s biases (偏见). These are all the things that depend on humans to solve.
In my mind, it’s too soon to say what kind of influence ChatGPT will have on our lives. Will ChatGPT be good, bad, or somewhere between for humans? It may be answered in the near future.
13 How does the writer start to introduce the topic?
A. Giving an example. B. Making a survey. C. Comparing facts. D. Listing numbers.
14. What does the underlined word “generate” in Paragraph 2 probably means?
A. Change. B. Copy. C. Make. D. Choose.
15. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The future development of ChatGPT. B. The tasks ChatGPT can do.
C. The problems people can solve. D. The disadvantages of ChatGPT.
16. What can we infer from the passage?
A. ChatGPT will change our lives in a good way.
B. ChatGPT will help solve all kinds of problems.
C. It is uncertain whether ChatGPT is good or not.
D. ChatGPT will be widely used in our lives.
【答案】13. A 14. C 15. D 16. C

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文
Exercise is something common but important. Not only can exercise build up our body but also it can help us form a good living habit. Besides, it is a good way to relax ourselves in our free time.
As a middle school student, I achieved a satisfactory result in the physical education test for more than two years’ exercise. In order to make full of time, I chose to get up early and then went to school. In the cold winter, I have ever wanted to give up and stay in bed. But I finally persuaded myself to insist on running every morning.
Now I feel proud of myself. Just as a saying goes “Rome was not built in a day”, your hard-working will be rewarded one day. If you keep exercise, you’ll have a strong body. I hope everyone can get away from illness.

B. Introduce the “20-20-20” rule for people to follow.
C. Tell people to keep away from the electronic devices.
D. Advise lonely people to use more electronic devices.

①Have you ever paid for educational podcasts (播客) or live videos? Ask some people and most of them will say yes. “Pay-for-knowledge” has been fashionable these years. Everything you think of can be found online, skills of talking, designing, computer programming and so on.
②Why is the “Pay-for-knowledge” industry developing so rapidly? First, its development is based on the Internet. With a fast network and a smart phone, anyone who has passed the identity (身份) check can be an online teacher, and anyone with an online account can buy “Pay-for-knowledge” products. Second, people are afraid to miss any information. They hope for more useful information which is usually at the hands of experts. Moreover, the need to learn new skills in today’s job market also pushes people to learn on such educational podcasts.
③The industry of “Pay-for-knowledge” has proved to be a great way of making money. It provides possibilities of turning information into money. Besides, buyers can enjoy self-growth from it. What’s more, this is a reflection (反映) of people’s respect for knowledge and talents.
④However, “Pay-for-knowledge” also causes a few problems. For one thing, the market is full of eye-catching words such as “How to be a good CEO?” which sounds like if you pay for it, you are sure to succeed. For another, a large number of customers buy them just for showing off.
⑤In general the best is the one that suits you most. “Pay-for-knowledge” may be used as a good start for self-growth. But be careful when you make a choice, or your dream of success may not come true.
9. The “Pay-for-knowledge” industry is developing rapidly because of the following reasons except which?
A. People today don’t want to miss information.
B. The traditional education system doesn’t work.
C. Today’s job market needs people to be more skilled.
D. There is a fast network and a smart phone nowadays.
10. What can we learn about“ Pay-for-knowledge” industry from Paragraph 3?
A. The history of its development. B. The problems of its products.
C. The advantages of its products. D. The future of this industry.
11. Which of the following may be the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
12. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Learn Knowledge by Ourselves Online
B. Buy “Pay-for-Knowledge” Products
C. Stop Trying Any of “Pay-for-Knowledge” Products
D. Choose “Pay-for-Knowledge” Products Wisely
D
Type in “A cat wants to go to space” and ask the robot to write a bedtime story. Just one second later you’ll get the story of Max, a cat who went through many difficulties to reach the space and sing among the stars.
13. How does the writer start to introduce the topic?
