词或短语的区别比较 1 Pain 一般的疼痛 Ache 局部较持久的疼痛 Hurt 精神,感情伤害,也指肉体伤害 2 比较if only与only if only if表示"只有"; if only则表示"如果…… I wake up only if the alarm clock rings. If only the alarm clock had rung. If only he comes early. 3 a bit a little Will you please turn down the radio a bit /a little ? 不同之处: 1)a little 可以直接修饰不可数名词, 而a bit 修饰不可数名词时,只能用a bit of Tom has a little money .= Tom has a bit of money . 2)not a little 和not a bit 的意义正好相反, not a bit =not at all ,意为“根本不”;not a little =very much”解,译为”很,非常”。 He is not a bit tired. He is not a little tired . Please see if the children are dressed for school. 2. If 不和or not 直接连用, 而whether可以。 He didn’t say if he would be staying here or not. Please tell me whether or not you agree. 3. 与不定式连用只能用whether I don’t know whether to answer it ( or not). 4. 引起同位语从句时,只能用whether You have yet to answer my question whether I can count on your vote. 5.引起表语从句时只能用whether What we want to know is whether he will come on time. 6. It is not clear to me if / whether she likes the present. Whether she likes the present is not clear to me. 7. I worry about whether I hurt her feelings. This depends upon whether he is interested in doing this kind of work. 8. Dinner was almost over when Dan still looking hungry, grinned, and asked Dave if he wasn’t going to have some bread. Mary told only John the secret. First, I’d like to tell you a few things about this factory. He told me nothing about what I should do. 6 tell sb. sth. 和tell sb. about sth. John went to the station with the car to meet Mary, so she didn't need to walk back home. John went to the station with the car to meet Mary, so she needn't have walked back home. There was plenty of time. She ___. A. mustn't have hurried B. couldn't have hurried C. must not hurry D. needn't have hurried 答案D。needn't have done. must not do 不可以(用于一般现在时)。 I didn't go, because I was afraid. Since /As the weather is so bad, we have to delay our journey. He is absent today, because / for he is ill. He must be ill, for he is absent today. Although it's raining, they are still working in the field. He is very old, but he still works very hard. Though the sore be healed, yet a scar may remain. 1) ___she is young, she knows quite a lot. When B. However C. Although D. Unless 答案:C。 Child as /though he was, he knew what was the right thing to do. = Though he was a small child, he knew what was the right thing to do. 注意: a. Try hard as he will, he never seems able to do the work satisfactorily. = Though he tries hard, he never seems… 11 "no matter +疑问词" 或"疑问词+后缀ever" No matter what happened, he would not mind. Whatever happened, he would not mind. 替换:no matter what = whatever no matter who = whoever no matter when = whenever no matter where = wherever no matter which = whichever no matter how = however 注意:no matter 不能引导主语从句和宾语从句。 (错)No matter what you say is of no use now. (对)Whatever you say is of no use now. (Whatever you say是主语从句) (错)Prisoners have to eat no matter what they're given, (对)Prisoners have to eat whatever they're given. 12 比较while, when, as 1)as, when 引导短暂性动作的动词。 Just as / Just when / When I stopped my car, a man came up to me. 2)当从句的动作发生于主句动作之前,只能用when 引导这个从句,不可用as 或 while。 When you have finished your work, you may have a rest. As the day went on, the weather got worse. 肯定句: I slept until midnight. Wait till I call you. (在肯定句中可用before代替 Let's get in the wheat before the sun sets.) 否定句: She didn't arrive until 6 o'clock. Don't get off the bus until it has stopped. I didn't manage to do it until you had explained how. Until you told me, I had heard nothing of what happened. ---Until when are you staying? --- Until next Monday. (1)Not until … Not until the early years of the 19th century did man know what heat is. Not until I began to work did I realize how much time I had wasted. (2) It is not until… that… 14 as if, as though They completely ignore these facts as if (as though) they never existed. He looks as if (as though) he had been hit by lighting. It looks as if the weather may pick up very soon. He stared at me as if seeing me for first time. He cleared his throat as if to say something. The waves dashed on the rocks as if in anger. 15 One that 1)The weather in China is different from____. A. in America B. one in America C. America D. that in America 答案:D. He is sitting close to me. Watch him closely. You have come too late. What have you been doing lately? He pushed the stick deep into the mud. Even father was deeply moved by the film. 4) high与highly high表示空间高度;highly表示程度,相当于much The plane was flying high. I think highly of your opinion. He opened the door wide. English is widely used in the world. You can eat free in my restaurant whenever you like. You may speak freely; say what you like. They are both in Class Ten.(指人) 他们俩都在十班。 I don't know which book is better. I shall read both. All are agreed.(指人) 全体赞成。 He gave all he had.(指物) 他倾其所有。 There are two young men in the room. Both are in twenties.(名词性) 屋子里有两个年青人。 Both her children go to the same school.(形容词性) 她的两个孩子在同一个学校读书。 All are gone. All roads lead to Rome. Both (of them) like popular songs. All of us are sick. I'll take both of them with me.(宾语) 他们两个我全带去。 I want all of you to do well. Both men are interested in the job.(定语) 两个人都对这项工作感兴趣。 We worked hard all year. They both like China very much.(同位语) 他们俩都非常喜爱中国。 They all agreed to stay. I want to buy both of the books. It'll cost all of $500. Both of them are from Russia. I want both books. All agree your idea. All of the books are interesting. All is the same, just like ten years ago. $$
