Have you ever thought about flying? Not in a plane, but like a real bird. Peter Salzmann from Austria dreamed of it and finally made it happen by having engineers at German car company BMW help him put the idea into practice.
A wingsuit is a special suit with a large piece of cloth. It allows you to jump from a high place and fly to lower ground. When doing wingsuit flying, you need to open your arms and keep your legs straight, like turning yourself into a kite. The air and wind will bring you slowly to the ground. A normal wingsuit is hard to control, and you can't fly higher with it.Once you jump, gravity will pull you down.
To improve the performance of the wingsuit, Salzmann had an idea: he could make an electric one and control it like controlling a car. He teamed up with German car company BMW to make it happen. It took the team three years to perfect the design.
The exciting invention has been tested in wind tunnels and in real life. Salzmann showed the electric wingsuit to the public with a pair of friends wearing regular wingsuits. They jumped from the plane at a height of 10,000 feet. They started the jump flying in formation. Then, Salzmann pushed the button on his suit and rocketed past his friends, flying over a mountain peak.
It has successfully got a lot of public attention. The invention of the electric wingsuit is seen as the start of this exciting new technology. We can expect to see it more in our life in the future.

Everybody’s house smells in some way. There are smells of bread that is no longer fresh, or
those of flowers which are dying…
You almost never notice the way your own place smells. You notice the way everyone else’s
place smells as soon as you walk in. There are their pets like the cats, furniture like the sofa they
just got. And those all add up to the way their house smells.
But you can only smell your own house after you’ve been away for a long while. Not just a
workday, but a week. It has to do with sensory adaptation(感觉适应).That’s the scientific way to say that you just get used to it. And it’s clearer for our sense of smell than for any other sense, like our hearing.
Researcher Pamela Dalton at the Monell Chemical Senses Center has done lots of work on
sensory adaptation. She and her team say that adaptation means you respond(作出反应) less when a stimulus (刺激物) is repeated. So when you’re at home, the smell of your house is all around you. It never goes away. It’s not just repeated –you’re swimming in it. So you become adapted to the way it smells. You adapt to smells really quickly. After even a few breaths of a smell, Dalton says, you begin to acclimate to it. You start to respond to that smell less strongly and finally don’t notice it at all. That’s why you can smell your friend’s house when you walk in,but you don’t really notice it when you’re there all the time.
It's important to detect(发现) smells. It might warn you of danger, like something bad in your
drinks. Or it might show something pleasant, like the fresh bread. Your nose can look for new smells that are dangerous or delicious.
If you want to change the way your house smells, many things might work, like candles, fresh
fruit and so on.
36.Which may not be the reason for your house’s smell?
37.What is Pamela Dalton’s idea?
A. When a stimulus is repeated, people respond more.
B. When you’re at home, the smell of your house never goes away.
C. There is nothing we can do to change the way our house smells.
D. Smells can warn people of danger but can’t show anything pleasant.
38.Which paragraph provides an explanation about sensory adaptation?
A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 2.
C. Paragraph 4. D. Paragraph 5.
39.What does the underlined phrase “acclimate to” mean in Chinese?
A.适应 B.重视 C.否认 D.依赖
40.What does the text mainly tell us?
A. How we can smell better. B. How we detect new smells.
C. Why we can’t smell our own house. D. How we can make our house smell better.
D
Government around the world are pushing for an end to plastic straws(塑料吸管) and bags,
Businesses are turning to paper products as their choice. Paper is considered to be better than plastic. However, it is also harmful to the environment.
Paper products are made from trees. Trees take in carbon dioxide. They can slow down the climate changes. An increase in the use of paper products means more trees will be cut down.
Producing paper products needs more energy. You might say that we can use recycled paper.
However, it takes even more energy and water to go through the recycling process than to make a new paper product.
Paper products are also bad for businesses. They are more expensive. A paper straw costs about
5 to 12 cents, while a plastic one usually costs only about 2 cents.
The best choice is to avoid using single-use things completely. Products like glass bottles and steel straws can be used over and over again. They are much better than either paper products or plastic ones. Through the increasing use of these, we can truly make the Earth a greener place!
41.What’s the purpose of the text?
A. To compare plastic products with paper ones.
B. To show the advantages of using paper products.
C. To advise people not to use plastic products any more.
D. To correct people’s wrong ideas about paper products.
42.Why does the writer compare the price of a paper straw with that of a plastic one?
A. To show paper products aren’t good for businesses.
B. To show paper products need much energy to produce.
C. To show paper products are better than plastic ones.
D. To show paper products are harmful to the environment too.
43.What does the underlined word "these" refer to?
A. Products that are made of plastic. B. Products that can be used again.
C. Products that are made of paper. D. Products that are much cheaper.
44.Which of the following shows the structure(结构)of the text? (P=Paragraph)
45.What can we know from the text?
A. Paper is more harmful than plastic.
B. Recycling paper uses less energy than making new paper.
C. Reusable products should be used to protect the environment.
D. Using paper products can help make the Earth a greener place.

The Double Eleven Shopping Festival is one of the largest shopping festivals in China. Many
people believe such large shopping festivals can help them save lots of money. 46._____________
But if you take a careful look at the sale prices, you’ll find that many of them end in “9”or “.99”. In our everyday life, we seldom say, “Just give me 5.99 minutes. It's not common to say, Just give me 59minutes” either. We are more likely to say, “Just give me six minutes” and “Just give me 60 minutes.” 47.__________________.
According to Lee E.Hibbett, a professor of marketing, this pricing strategy (策略) has been around for a century. No one knows who invented it. But stores all like it. Products with prices that end in “.99”or “9” simply sell better.
48.____________ On a price tag, the number on the far left impresses (给…留下深刻印象) us the most. So, even though 5.99 yuan is pretty close to 6 yuan, it’s the “5” that impresses us. A product that sells for 5.99 yuan just seems like a better deal than a similar one that sells for 6 yuan.
Hibbett once asked a clothing company to raise the price of one of its dresses.49.__________
The result, however, surprised them. Demand(需求) increased by a third when the price was raised from 34 to 39. Increasing the price from34 to 44 made no difference.
50.____________They may make you spend more money instead of saving some!
A. Why do stores prefer the other way round?
B. After all, many stores have some goods on sale.
C. They thought fewer people would buy the dress.
D. So be careful with prices that end in “9” or “.99”.
E. The strategy is based on the fact that we read from left to right.

Nowadays, many students are using the Internet to look for the answers to their homework. Some students find it helps them get the answers easily when they meet difficult problems. What's more, they can read the explanations again and again until they understand the problems.
But some students just copy the answers without thinking. It's bad for them to do so because they lose the chance to develop their learning abilities.
In my opinion, there is no need to use the Internet to do our homework. And we shouldn't copy the answers directly. We can ask our teachers or classmates for help. After all, staring at the screen for too long is harmful to our eyes.
