【答案】4.B 5.A 6.B 7.D
根据第二段“Most of their trips seem far from relaxing—cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.(他们的大多数旅行似乎都不是轻松的——在炎热干燥的沙漠中进行文化研究,在新西兰徒步旅行53公里,在英国的三座山顶上攀登一天,从北京到莫斯科坐六天的火车)”可推知,他们的很多旅行是具有挑战性的。故选B。
根据画线词上文“Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel. 故选A。
根据第四段的“However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling.(然而,他们的旅行可能持续数周或数月,有时与孩子的学校教育不一致)”可知,他们在旅行中遇到的问题是旅行的时间和孩子上学时间的冲突。故选B。
根据最后一段“Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.(林赛非常重视课堂外的学习,他说孩子们可能在学校考试中取得好成绩,但到外面旅行,在遥远的地方,在不同的语言、文化和政治结构中,才是真正的考验。“你只能在街上获得街头智慧。只有在见识了世界之后,你才能变得善于处事。”)”可推知,林赛会认同“读万卷书不如行万里路”这一观点。故选D。
C篇
【答案】8.D 9.C 10.B 11.A
根据第二段中““We didn’t have these problems until everybody else’s levees worked,” said Hebert, 46. “It may not be the only cause, but I sure do think it makes a difference.”(46岁的赫伯特说: “直到其他人的堤坝开始工作,我们才有了这些问题。”“这可能不是唯一的原因,但我确实认为它起到了作用。”)”可知,Hebert认为附近的堤坝导致了洪水,故选D。
9.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Gov. John Bel Edwards said a recent survey of levees across Louisiana showed they did exactly what they were for and held the water out. “We don’t believe there is a single levee anywhere now that actually broke or failed. There were only a few smaller levees in New Orleans that failed,” Edwards said.(州长约翰·贝尔·爱德华斯表示,最近对路易斯安那州各地堤坝的调查显示,堤坝的作用恰到好处,挡住了洪水。“我们不认为现在哪里有一座堤坝真的崩溃了。在新奥尔良只有少数较小的堤坝失败了。”)”可推知,Edwards认为新奥尔良的洪水保护系统总的来说还是令人满意的。故选C。
10.推理判断题。根据第四段“After Katrina, the government spent $14.5 billion on projects designed to improve protection from storm surge and flooding in New Orleans and nearby areas. The system is a 130-mile ring built to hold out storm surge of about 30 feet. In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina produced a storm surge that flooded about four-fifths of the city, causing over 1,800 deaths.(卡特里娜飓风过后,美国政府斥资145亿美元用于改善新奥尔良及其附近地区防御风暴潮和洪水的工程。该系统是一个130英里长的环形结构,可以抵御约30英尺的风暴潮。2005年8月,飓风卡特里娜引发的风暴潮淹没了该市约五分之四的地区,造成1800多人死亡。)”可知,第四段介绍了一些用于防洪堤建设的费用,以及曾经发生过的洪水导致的伤亡事件,由此可推知,第四段主要是提供一些背景信息,故选B。
11.推理判断题。根据最后一段Hebert所说的话“The water has got to go somewhere no matter how many levee systems are built. We can’t just keep moving it from person to person, place to place.(不管建造多少堤坝系统,水总要流到某个地方。我们不能一直把它从一个人转移到另一个地方)”可知,虽然人们一直在修建防洪堤,但这并不是完美且及时的解决问题,人们不能一直搬迁,由此可推知,防洪堤并不是解决洪水问题的最佳选择,故选A。

So they just use what nature gives them to communicate with each other.
根据倒数第二段“Cocroft said tree-hoppers have very sensitive legs. And they stand around on stems, which are good at spreading vibrations. So they just use what nature gives them to communicate with each other. (Cocroft说,角蝉的腿非常敏感。它们站在茎上,茎善于传播振动。所以它们只是用大自然赋予它们的东西来相互交流。)”可知,角蝉通过腿感知声音,故选A。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“‘They have so many different forms of social behavior and grouping,’ Cocroft explained. ‘And once there are animals living in groups, then there will be all sorts of interesting possibilities for communication.’ (‘它们有很多不同形式的社会行为和群体,’Cocroft解释说。‘一旦有动物群居生活,那么就会有各种有趣的交流可能性。’)”可知,动物的群居有利于它们的交流,故选C。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合第一段中“Animals, including humans, feel sound as well as hear it, and some of the most meaningful communication happens at frequencies (频率) that people can’t hear. (包括人类在内的动物不仅能听到声音,还能感觉到声音,而且一些最有意义的交流发生在人们听不到的频率上。)”可知,本文以角蝉为例,详细地说明了动物间交流的声音,故选D。

【参考答案】
Para 1:
The next morning, Mrs. Anderson saw Cynthia walking quietly into the backyard with a first aid kit in hand. She was careful as she approached a small bird, which lay still on the ground, its wings folded tightly against its body. Cynthia gently picked up the bird and examined it carefully, then began to apply some salve to its wounds. Mrs. Anderson realized that Cynthia had been secretly nursing injured birds back to health. She felt a sense of pride wash over her as she watched her daughter, who had always been so kind and helpful.
Para 2:
Mrs. Anderson couldn’t help but walk out. She approached Cynthia and asked, “What are you doing, dear?” “I found this bird injured in the yard and I’m trying to help it,” she replied. Mrs. Anderson smiled and sat down beside her daughter. She knew that Cynthia’s love for birds was a reflection of her own kind heart and that she was simply following in her mother’s footsteps. They sat there for a while, mother, and daughter, lost in the beauty of the moment.

William Lindesay, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋)—these are the day-to-day must-haves for the family.
Most of their trips seem far from relaxing—cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow as an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. “We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable.”
However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time.
Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.
4.How can we describe the Lindesays’ trips?
A.Pleasant. B.Challenging. C.relaxing. D.Dangerous.
5.What does the underlined word “eschew” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Avoid. B.Visit. C.Compare. D.Evaluate.
6.What problem does the family meet when traveling?
A.They suffer from a tight budget. B.They have scheduling conflicts.
C.They are faced with language barriers. D.They hold different educational ideas.
7.Which statement may Lindesay agree with according to the text?
A.Nothing is so necessary for travelers as languages.
B.There is no royal road to learning.
C.Actions speak louder than words.
D.Man who travels far knows more.
C
The levees (防洪堤) that protect New Orleans held up against Hurricane Ida’s fury (猛烈), passing their first big test since Hurricane Katrina that struck 16 years ago. The government spent billions of dollars to upgrade the city’s levee system which had failed before Katrina. But the effort couldn’t spare some neighboring communities from Ida’s terrible storm surge (风暴潮).
Many people living in LaPlace, located 25 miles west of New Orleans, had to be rescued from rising floodwaters. Marcie Jacob Hebert ran away before Ida. But she has no doubt that the storm flooded her LaPlace home. Her house didn’t flood during Katrina. But it took on nearly two feet of water during Hurricane Isaac in 2012. “We didn’t have these problems until everybody else’s levees worked,” said Hebert, 46. “It may not be the only cause, but I sure do think it makes a difference.”
Gov. John Bel Edwards said a recent survey of levees across Louisiana showed they did exactly what they were for and held the water out. “We don’t believe there is a single levee anywhere now that actually broke or failed. There were only a few smaller levees in New Orleans that failed,” Edwards said.
After Katrina, the government spent $14.5 billion on projects designed to improve protection from storm surge and flooding in New Orleans and nearby areas. The system is a 130-mile ring built to hold out storm surge of about 30 feet. In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina produced a storm surge that flooded about four-fifths of the city, causing over 1,800 deaths.
Work recently began on a levee project to protect LaPlace and other communities outside New Orleans’ levee system. That project will be completed in 2024.
“I’m glad they’re building us a levee, but I worry about what happens to the next group further to the west,” Hebert said. “The water has got to go somewhere no matter how many levee systems are built. We can’t just keep moving it from person to person, place to place.”
8.What is the reason for the flooding in LaPlace according to Hebert?
A.Heavy rainfall. B.Weather change. C.Levees breaking. D.Nearby levees.
9.What does Edwards think of the flood protection system in New Orleans?
A.It costs too much. B.It may cause danger.
C.It is generally satisfying. D.It badly needs improvements.
10.What does the author want to do in paragraph 4?
A.Provide some helpful suggestions. B.Offer some background information.

Animals, including humans, feel sound as well as hear it, and some of the most meaningful communication happens at frequencies (频率) that people can’t hear. Elephants, for example, use these low-frequency sounds to, among other things, find family or a mate across long distances. Whales do it, too.
But you don’t have to weigh a ton to make a sound. In fact, you don’t have to be bigger than a pea. Consider, for example, the tree-hopper(角蝉), a curious little animal that lives on the stems (茎) of the leaves. University of Missouri biologist Rex Cocroft has spent much of his time listening closely to tree-hoppers with his team.
The team discovers that all the sounds being heard from tree-hoppers are produced by males. They do it by vibrating (振动) their abdomens (腹部) to make a wide variety of strange sounds. There is almost no airborne sound produced with these vibrational sounds. Cocroft explained, “If a tree-hopper were to stand on your finger and produce a sound, you would feel the vibration but hear no sound.”
They showed that some sounds, not surprisingly, seem to be aimed at attracting females. And some are aimed at other males.
Cocroft explained, “When two males meet each other, or when they are mate-searching on a branch, we’re hearing ‘purring, bdddddrrrr…’ sounds that males give.” Normally, a person couldn’t hear any of this, because the sound travels along the stem, inside it. And that’s how other tree-hoppers detect it.
Cocroft said tree-hoppers have very sensitive legs. And they stand around on stems, which are good at spreading vibrations. So they just use what nature gives them to communicate with each other.
“They have so many different forms of social behavior and grouping,” Cocroft explained. “And once there are animals living in groups, then there will be all sorts of interesting possibilities for communication.”
12. What does Cocroft’s research focus on about tree-hoppers?
A. Their variety. B. Their communication.
C. Their living areas. D. Their numbers.
13. What can we know about tree-hoppers?
A. They sense sounds by legs.
B. They knock the stems to make sounds.
C. Their sounds can be easily heard by humans.
D. Females make sounds to meet each other
14. What does Cocroft say about animals’ living in groups?
A. It is key to their survival.
B. It drives an increase in their numbers.
C. It often leads to communication.
D. It contributes much to the division of animal types.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Magic Moment in Nature B. A Journey to the Wildlife
C. Learning From Nature D. Communication Sounds Among Animals

Cynthia was a primary school student. She was curious about everything. She made efforts to get a good grade in every subject. She was a kind-hearted and outgoing girl. At school, she was always ready to help her classmates. At home, she helped her mum do some housework. She was never a concern to her mum, Mrs. Anderson.
However, Mrs. Anderson noticed a change in Cynthia these days. There were more quiet moments. Mrs. Anderson saw Cynthia looking out of the window, lost in thought. She also learned from her teacher that Cynthia wasn’t as focused on school as before. A sense of worry rose in Mrs. Anderson’s heart and she wondered about what was behind Cynthia’s unusual behavior.
Before going to bed, she started talking with Cynthia, asking about her day. However, Cynthia just said that nothing in particular happened. Mrs. Anderson’s concern grew. She decided to keep a closer eye, hoping to uncover the challenges her daughter might be facing.
One day, while cleaning up Cynthia’s bedroom, Mrs. Anderson discovered something unexpected — on her desk lay some books on how to treat injured birds. It was quite surprising. Cynthia had never told her about this. It also amazed Mrs. Anderson. She had a deep love for nature and birds and she could always find inspiration in their freedom and the beauty of their songs. She couldn’t help but wonder what had inspired her daughter’s newfound interest in birds.

Paragraph 1:
The next morning, Mrs. Anderson saw Cynthia walking quietly into the backyard with a first aid kit in hand. She was careful as she approached a small bird, which lay still on the ground, its wings folded tightly against its body. Cynthia gently picked up the bird and examined it carefully, then began to apply some salve to its wounds. Mrs. Anderson realized that Cynthia had been secretly nursing injured birds back to health. She felt a sense of pride wash over her as she watched her daughter, who had always been so kind and helpful.
Paragraph 2:
