Frank Daily stared down at the frozen ground. He kicked chunks of snow with his new Nike shoes. He only pretended to listen to the chat of his friends Norm and Ed, as they all got on the number 10 bus after school.
Frank and his friends sat down at the back of the bus along with several other high school boys, some from other schools. The bus headed west on Blue Mound Road. He still remembered another cold, gray day just a month ago in November when his world crashed down around him, as he read the team list, searching desperately for his name. It wasn’t there.
The bus braked suddenly, and Frank naturally pressed his Nikes against the floor. “It must have been my size,” he thought, “Five-feet-four. Since I’m new at Marquette High, the coach must have taken one look at me and my shoes and decided I was too small to join the basketball team.” He had been a star athlete in all the sports in primary school. Now, it seemed he was a nothing.
The bus stopped at the County Institutions grounds. Frank glanced up at the driver, who had a nickname “Kojak” because of his bald head.
An elderly woman hung onto the handrail and slowly pulled herself onto the bus. As she sank into the seat behind the bus driver, her feet kicked up, and Frank saw that she was barefoot.
As Kojak got the bus back into traffic, he yelled over his shoulder, “Where are your shoes, lady? It was below 10 degrees out there.” “I can’t afford shoes,” the woman answered. She pulled her worn-out coat collar around her neck. Some of the boys at the back exchanged glances and laughed.
“I got on the bus just to get my feet warm,” the woman continued. “If you don’t mind, I’ll just ride around with you for a bit.”
Kojak scratched his bald head and shouted, “Now just tell me how come you can’t afford shoes?”
“My husband is badly ill in the hospital, so we only have money for food and necessities,” the woman said in a low voice.

Theme: ?
N-P(he was nothing)
Theme: ?
(Negative)He was nothing --(Positive)He felt he had everything in his heart. / He felt on top of the world.
He felt happy because he helped a poor woman with his new shoes.
借助theme aid:
Gray day -- bright day
Cold day -- warm day
Others’ laughter -- let go of...

Frank looked down at his new Nike basketball shoes.
“If the coach had seen these shoes, maybe he would have let me join the basketball team,” Frank thought, but the elderly woman’s words echoed in his mind: “I can’t afford shoes.” Her voice seemed tinged with tears, and her face was as cold and frozen as the ground itself. He couldn’t bear to think further. Maybe he should do something. He stared at his new shoes for a long time. Suddenly, he took off his new shoes. When the bus reached the stop and everyone else had gotten off, he walked up to the old woman and said, “These shoes will be more useful for you.” Without waiting for her reaction, he turned and walked away quickly, afraid he might change his mind.
可他的脑海里却又回荡着那个老夫人的话:“I can’t afford the shoes”.
Then Frank hurried to the door and was about to step down.
He heard her call out excitedly, “Young man, thank you. These shoes fit me perfectly. You’re an angel!” A faint smile crossed his face. Wasn’t this the best gift he had received that day? Although he no longer had his new shoes and might still not be favored by others, did that really matter? He walked faster, almost as if he were flying. The sky no longer seemed gray, and the ground no longer felt cold. He felt warm inside.
“小伙子,谢谢你。这双鞋我穿上正好。你简直就是天使。”他听到她的激动的喊声。他不禁微微一笑。这不正是他今天得到的最好的礼物吗?虽然他没有了新鞋,虽然他可能依旧不被别人看好,可是那又怎样呢?他越走越快,简直要飞起来一样。天空不再是灰蒙蒙地,地面也不再是冰冻一样地冷。他真的感到很暖。

Frank looked down at his new Nike basketball shoes.
He was struck by the contrast between his shoes and the woman's bare feet. Those shoes, which he once hoped would carry him on the basketball court, now had a new meaning. The woman's plight made his own problem seem so trivial. He couldn't help but think that his shoes could make a real difference for her. His heart swelled with the urge to help, and he knew what he had to do.
Then Frank hurried to the door and was about to step down.
He called out to the woman, "Here, take these shoes. I hope they can keep you warm." The boys on the bus gasped. He walked over and placed the shoes in her hands. The woman thanked him with tears in her eyes. As he got off the bus, he ignored the cold. He felt as if a burden had been lifted from him, and he walked away with a new perspective on life.

Frank looked down at his new Nike basketball shoes.
His face flushed with shame as he thought about how he had been brooding over something as minor as not making the team while this poor woman had no shoes. The shoes seemed to mock him with their shiny newness. He couldn't just sit there with something that could bring so much comfort to someone in such desperate need. He untied the laces slowly, his decision firm.
Then Frank hurried to the door and was about to step down.
With a determined look, he said to the woman, "These are for you. I hope your days get better." The bus was filled with an air of disbelief. He passed the shoes to her and made his way off the bus. The cold air hit him, but he didn't shiver. Instead, he smiled, knowing that he had given up something material but gained something far more valuable in return.

Frank looked down at his new Nike basketball shoes.
He felt a pang of guilt. These shoes that he had been so proud of suddenly seemed like a luxury he didn't deserve. While he was moping about not making the basketball team, there were people with real hardships like this woman who couldn't even afford shoes in the freezing cold. He remembered his own disappointment, but now he realized how insignificant it was compared to what she was going through. His mind was made up; he had to do something.
Then Frank hurried to the door and was about to step down.
He turned around and said to the woman, "Ma'am, you can have my shoes." The whole bus went silent. He quickly took them off and handed them to her. The woman's eyes widened in surprise and gratitude. As he stepped off the bus in his socks, he felt a strange sense of peace. His friends Norm and Ed looked at him with newfound respect. The cold from the ground seeped through his socks, but his heart was warm, knowing he had done the right thing.
范文:
Frank looked down at his new Nike basketball shoes. His feet were warm and cosy. When he glanced at the woman who was dressed in rags, a sense of sorrow swept over him. With a complicated mood, he slipped the shoes off under his seat. When the bus stopped, Frank waited until everyone else had got off. Then he reached under his seat and picked up his basketball shoes. He walked quickly up to the woman and handed them to her, looking down and saying, “Here, lady, you need these more than I do.”
Then Frank hurried to the door and was about to step down. He heard the woman exclaim, “Look, they fit me just perfectly!” Then he heard Kojak said, “I’ve never seen anything like that in the 20 years I’ve been driving this bus.” The woman was crying. “Thank you, young man,” she said. He smiled at the woman. “It’s no big deal.” He hurried off after Norm and Ed. It seemed to him that the grayness had lifted. On the way home, hardly could he feel the cold beneath his feet at all.
